I was between and 3 and 4 with my visit this time! Visited before and was impressed, so was looking forward to it. We got there right as they opened. Everyone was so friendly and willing to be helpful. I appreciate the different areas for sitting, we got a booth this time. They had the risotto special which we have had before which is usually sooo tasty, this time it was just meh! I think the risotto was either under or over cooked--couldn't tell which but wasn't the consistency we were used to. The scallops however were great. I was excited for the Surf n Turf dish I got cause of the lobster but I did notice it was stuffed with something else in addition to the cheese on top, which tasted like the plastic container it was stored in while also being a weird grainy texture. We figured it was probably to supplement the meat inside which seemed skimpy to begin with. Broccoli was delicious (my favorite) and the mac n cheese was just okay! Espresso martini was made perfectly, I really love a more coffee tasting one.

That was the finest Filet Mignon I ever had. The flavor was delicious - juucy with a nice char on the edges. My two guests from Germany and Peru ordered NY Strips and commented it was the best steak they had. Overall, a wonderful experience!

Butternut Squash Ravioli

This is the restaurant attached to the Pfister Hotel. So it is on the pricey side. I came here twice during my stay. Here is the low down. Bread basket: not on the menu but ask for it. You get two slices of freshly made bread and Lavosh crackers coupled with the perfect consistency of spreading butter. And best of all it is free. Petite Filet mignon: had it medium rare, but meat was dry. Seasoning is ok. Definitely not worth the $56. Butternut squash ravioli: you get 5 pieces. Never had anything like it. Flavors were good but felt the paste edges were a bit hard which may indicate that it was sitting out a bit. Again not worth the price. Dark chocolate cake: for $12 it is a huge slice. I would definitely get it to share. But for being dark chocolate I felt it was still very sweet. Sorbet: I tried lemon, mango, blood orange. Skip the blood orange, when I tasted it, I could make out the blood orange at all. Lemon and mango were great. It's $5 for the first scoop and then $2.50 for additional scoops. Based on what I tried. The bread and sorbet are the only things worth it to me. Service is excellent and should be as this price. But I have to save James at the bar deserves serious kudos. I've never seen any bartender manage so many orders all at once while still making you feel like you are getting personal service. If you are just coming for drinks, this is a good option. The restaurant can be accessed from within the hotel and from the street. There is hotel parking garage and a lot across the street for parking. Unsure if they validate as I didn't have car. Restaurant is a decent size for the city with bar seating, small tables and booths. They do take reservations.

Delmonico Potatoes

The service was hands down the best I've ever had at a restaurant--top to bottom, truly exceptional. 10/10 experience. Huge shoutout to Tyler. Also the restaurant is located in the phister hotel which was absolutely beautiful!! The bread was mid, but the Asiago-crusted crackers with whipped butter were excellent--easily the highlight of the bread service. The warm beet salad with goat cheese was wonderful. The nuts added a nice earthy balance and a great crunch, but the goat cheese was the star for me--light, herby, and perfectly paired with the beets. For entrées, I had the Linz Heritage Farms 16oz ribeye, cooked to perfection and topped with a blue cheese crust that complemented the steak without overpowering it. Excellent execution, chefs kiss. My wife ordered the butternut squash ravioli, and it was out of this world--rich, balanced, and one of the best dishes of the night. The mac and cheese was okay--nothing special, but a solid side dish. The Delmonico potatoes were absolutely phenomenal (10/10). Think au gratin-style potatoes taken to another level, with a rich cheese sauce baked right in. Easily the standout side. The Brussels sprouts were well seasoned and delicious, and the dipping sauce really brought everything together. Dessert sealed the deal. The crème brûlée was absolutely to die for, and the cappuccino and Shirley Temple our waiter made were phenomenal.

French onion soup

We had a great experience at Mason Street Grill before a show at the Pabst. May be the best French onion soup I've ever had. Crab cakes and beef carpaccio are a must order for apps as well. Beef short rib for the main course was delicious! I will say, on a busy Saturday, the kitchen seemed slammed so entrees at our table came out a little less hot than we would have liked but nothing overly unacceptable. Whatever you do, don't skip the key lime pie. Great ambiance overall made possible by top notch service provided by our waiter Tyler who was knowledgeable and hyper aware of the time so we could make our show.

House Bubbles. $5 during happy hour 4-6:30

I stopped in for happy hour around 4:30 on a Thursday, and it was already quite busy. Fortunately, my two friends and I snagged a table by the window. We were immediately impressed by how comfortable the chairs were. Service was excellent! We drank the house bubbles, but they also had a couple more wine options, well drinks, and draft beers available for $5. Overall, a great happy hour spot with a fancy, yet welcoming vibe!

Mason street grill happy hour for the win! Wow, what an amazing place for such a good price. Definitely recommend. Great service, comfy chairs, the food smelled great, and the holiday decorations made it so special.

Wonderful evening with a colleague in town. The service was on point, the atmosphere was inviting. I devoured a filet mignon so fast, forgot to take a picture. The cocktails are good too. Wine selection is one to marvel as most steak houses pairing the wine is an important element. I'll be back here for sure!

Jazz nightly

Before our return to Milwaukee, Mason Street Grill was one of our first stops. We were tourists. We have lived here for two years, and we haven't returned. Restaurant behavior is so odd. Maybe it's because Mason Street is in a building that houses the Pfeister Hotel. Who knows? We finally dined there last Friday night with another couple. With nightly jazz, Mason Street immediately gives me that "downtown big-city" vibe. It's different than most restaurants in Milwaukee. Mason Street Grill has sophistication. Milwaukee isn't what one would call a sophisticated town. As a NYC native, it was a pleasant change of pace. After being escorted into the clubby, large dining room, we nestled into one of the booths. Sadly, the food on this particularly evening was not up to par. My swordfish had too much crap piled on it. The sauce, garnishes, etc killed the flavor of the swordfish. The steaks tasted fair, not as good as in the past. Perhaps Covid hit the Mason Street Grill with a knockout blow. I don't know. I must return to make a clear judgment. However, it still gets five stars despite the lapses from the kitchen. The bill for two appetizers, two appetizers, two glasses of wine and two very powerful cocktails came to $221.00.

We went to Mason Street for my fiancé's birthday and we got the recommendation from a friend. We enjoyed the happy hour at the bar next-door before entering Mason Street for a dinner. Our waiter was super super friendly and fun to talk to. We got free dessert for my fiancé's birthday, which was super delicious. The steak was a little under seasoned and didn't have much flavor. The ravioli was very fresh and tasted really good.

We showed up on a Friday without a reservation and were incredibly lucky that the bar area had seating. We were seated right away. The waiter was prompt and all the staff were overall really nice and approachable. We ordered lots of sides for our steaks and they were all amazing! The food overall was incredible and the steak was cooked perfectly. The N.A. cocktail was a little too sweet, but overall tasted good. I'd come back here and recommend others to stop by as well!

Ahi Tuna Poke

Always a nice place to stop by for dinner and pleasant service. The food is pretty good, they recently changed their seared tuna dish to a poke but that was good too. They have delicious desserts and a nice warm bread basket that they serve on the house.

It's not every day that you visit a restaurant that you know will stay with you forever. Today was one of those days. I visited Mason Street Grill after doing some research of the area for a good steak dinner. After a few minutes, I was sold and booked a reservation. When I arrived, I was met by the GM and she sat me kitchen side. Sitting at the kitchen bar added a homie feeling to the experience. It felt like I was at home watching my parents cook as I waited in anticipation for dinner. The art and enthusiasm the chef and his team had was electrifying and it was fun watching them cook. You call they all have a passion for cooking. As for the food, I was blown away. The crab cake was phenomenal and the steak was one of the best I ever had. Also, their carrot cake is to die for. I will be back.

Can you make a reservation for the bar?

We currently take reservations for our Chef Table, which is bar-like seating. At this time the bar area is first-come, first-serve.

Is there any kid friendly menu items or a kids menu here?

They don’t have a kids menu but they are very accommodating. I know my kids liked pasta and butter. There is also a Margherita flatbread which also could be a good option depending upon what they eat

Best place to park?

Right across the street is a self park self paying lot. You can also park at the Pfeister's structure.

How is the music?

We enjoyed it. We've been there a few times, sat in the bar so we could listen to the music.

St. Paul Fish Market is located inside the very busy and popular Milwaukee Public Market indoor shopping complex downtown. It reminds me of the Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle. The only parking option that I am aware of is metered street parking. The building has 2 levels but the 1st floor is where most of the business are. It appeared to me that St. Paul's is the most popular business there. It is a seafood restaurant and fresh fish market. They have a small sit down area for table service dining or you can order your food to go at the counter. After being seated and reviewing the menu I decided to order the same meal I had over 11 years ago. I went with a bowl of clam chowder for $8 to start and then added a fried grouper sandwich ($16) with french fries for another $2.50. The chowder was perfect. Flavorful, delicious and I wanted more (5). The sandwich also was delicious and satisfying made with quality fish, lettuce, tomato, and bread. However while it tasted very good halfway through eating it the bread bun started to disintegrate and then quickly turned to mush before I could finish. Then I needed a fork to finish it. It got messy and I don't like that in a sandwich. It's only for that reason I give an overall 4 score instead of a 5. The french fries were very good tasting too but I had ordered too much food and only had room for a few of them. The table service was very warm and friendly. I believe St. Paul's is a very good choice for a casual seafood meal but please buy more sturdy buns!

We arrived early and were told seating begins ad 5:00 if you would like to go to the bar.... Went to the bar and had a martini and a glass of wine. Well we knew it was not going to be cheap but I was a bit floored by the tab of $45 with tip and a charge for using a credit card. We were taken to our table which was at the back of the restaurant with a beautiful view and relatively quiet... perfect. Put our orders in with a very nice waitress: Me: 3 Oysters, Caesar salad, Lobster Tails Glass of wine Wife: Chopped Salad, LobsterTails, wine BTW. I love to have wine with a meal and enjoy it by the bottle. However in looking at their Wine Book they essentially triple the cost of a bottle. So to have a bottle of champagne was going to put us out over $150 .... for a cheap one. It was offered by the glass for $28. Bread was very good but with cold butter. Hate that. Chopped salad got a very high mark from a salad critic (wife) and my Caesar not so much. Get the one at Cooper's Hawk. for a comparison. The Lobster was great. $74 seems a lot until you go out and but anything comparable. The serving was generous and well prepared. A complimentary desert was offered and it was Chocolate and Hazelnut. VERY highly recommended. My mind had been set on Key Lime Pie so we had that too. Bottom line: $45 bar + $264 dinner+ $61 tip +$10 parking = $380 Would we do it again. Maybe but it was expensive. Oh I forgot there was a $5 charge for using my credit card. Good Grief!!

The only reservation we could get was 4:30PM but we were excited we were able to get in at any time. Because of the timing, the sun was setting over the water, which was really pretty to see. I got a little confused with where to enter the building and I guess I went in the wrong way because I walked down the dock and entered the back of the restaurant by the restrooms, lol. Barnacle Bud's had a cool decor vibe and moody lighting. Our waitress was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and you could tell she was very excited about the menu and the pop-up experience. She provided exceptional customer service- she went over the menu thoroughly, came back to check on us multiple times, and always refilled our water, which I always appreciate! To start, we ordered wine and the relish tray. Everything on the relish tray was a little too vinegary for me but most of the table enjoyed it. However, the four of us didn't finish it. It was pretty powerful with vinegar flavor. For an entree, I had the salmon with veggies and my friends ordered the lamb chops, carbonara, and a vegetarian friend ordered a plate of Bud's potatoes and veggies. The food was good but I thought mine was very salty. And I'm glad I ordered my sauce on the side. For dessert, the four of us shared the mousse, which had good flavor and texture. Also to note, there were up-charges for veggies, sauce was $3 extra, etc., so just pay attention to pricing if that's a concern for you. Overall, it was a unique experience and worth checking out.

Okay, I'm going to dish in a second. But overall - Maxie's…read moreis a super cool vibe. The colors, the well-placed low lighting, the appropriate volume of cajun music ... all done in excellent taste. The waitstaff is INCREDIBLE. They all seem to be having a great time, when it's slow, and when it's busy, which is important to see; plus, they help each other out. Waiters, bartenders, bussers, hosts, food-runners - they're often smiling and helpful to anyone. Not only did our waiter Scotty take amazing care of us (a group of 10 on a Saturday night, all arriving at different times; and he had many other tables besides us), but his teammates helped bring drinks, clear the table, and our deliver our food. Everything was timely, fresh, and as far as I know, no errors were made with drinks or food. We were all quite satisfied with our meal. The reason I give 3 stars is, for some reason I do not understand, near the end of our meal, we heard a man yelling quite loudly from the kitchen area AT OUR SERVER. The man (manager I assume) was insisting that Scotty was not attentive to us (and I can't discern a single reason why this would be claimed). Even if he noticed something we didn't -- it could have been a moment of quiet criticism, but this dude turned it into a screaming fit. And he could not have been more wrong. In fact overhearing this exchange (right around the corner, within full earshot of us and the back half of the restaurant) was the ONLY thing that soured our otherwise amazing experience. We then watched who I assume was the same guy (red-faced and angry) sit down at a table very close to us, and our server return a moment later somewhat shaken up. It was awful. We made sure to congratulate him loudly on his impeccable service after that. I don't know if the manager heard or not. But one can hope. This was not my first time here, but it was the first time I've experienced anything like this. Like I said, the team seems solid, our service is always timely and kind (and often, incredibly FUN) even when they're PACKED, the food is bangin', the oysters are fresh and delicious, and EVERYTHING is well priced & spiced! So we will be back. But we really hated seeing our waiter treated like that. For anyone who doesn't know - waiters in WI currently make $2.33/hour. This is below the federal wage rate of $7.25/hour for the same job. They survive off your tips. If they're good, they're great, and GOD BLESS THEM - they must do what they do because they love people. This manager did not seem to appreciate what he had right in front of him. But we did!!!! Needless to say, it was crowded and lively, but our table was waiting for us and we were sat immediately. My husband decided on the jambalaya, I went with the crawfish étouffée, and we split the roasted Cajun cauliflower as an appetizer. While it's hard for this kind of stew-like, saucy, veggie/sausage/seafood over rice mixtures to present beautifully, everything looked, smelled, and tasted delicious. The jambalaya had a little more of a kick than I prefer, but my husband loved it and my crawfish étouffée had the perfect amount of spice without being spicy. The roasted cauliflower was cooked to perfection and was the perfect way to start the meal. Not pictured is the bananas foster bread pudding that was the perfect way to end it. We both left with extra food to take home and the memory of a wonderful meal and great experience.
