It is decked out in sports memorabilia and there are some cool stories about some of the pieces (be sure to ask the bartenders/servers- they know all). Perfect for a fun drink before a Brewers game or to hang out and watch another game on their many TVs. But 4th Base isn't just a regular sports bar- it's in a league of its own. They serve amazing food- but there's no menu (well there is a small menu if you want it but I digress). They have a case filled with a variety of meats, veggies, seafood, etc (which all look amazing!) and you have the ability to ask for anything- if the chef has the ingredients they will make it for you! I'm reviewing fourth base and a quote to the fact that it is a dive bar in Milwaukee. Please keep that in mind in terms of rating. The staff was exceptionally friendly and loved the athletic inside the bar. The food options and the deli style of ordering was awesome and unique and the food was fantastic. Fantastic food. Fun atmosphere. My husband and I both had a shaved rib eye steak sandwich with mushrooms, jalapeño, pepper jack cheese and a side of au jus. It was outstanding. I know the no menu thing throws a lot of people but we love it. It's been awhile since I've written a review but found it fitting to drop a shout out for this joint as this was the last restaurant we ate at in Milwaukee since we are moving to RVA. 4th Base is a great joint. This is a shabby sheik bar that has good eats to boot. Think of yourself stumbling to the kitchen and wondering what's in the fridge that I can make for dinner. Only difference is they have hand cut steaks and a Hodge podge of seafood to choose from. We tried way too much food since it was our first venture there but damn, it was all so good. Bacon wrapped shrimp, crab stuffed mushrooms, mozzarella sticks and the perch were just a few of the standouts. We got our grub on all while watching the Brew Crew attempt to clinch the series. Wasn't sure what to expect but wanted to check out the no menu bar and kitchen. It's a pretty small place kinda like a dive bar. And there's like a refrigerator with meats, fish and vegetables and they can charge you whatever price they want which is kind of scary in my opinion. How do they make up these prices? After for the baked walleye and crusted, which was really good And the onion strings were just that, but they were cold as they sat on the counter for quite a while before the server got to it. It looks like they have a lot of regulars so there's that. The burger was loaded with cheese and onions and cooked well. The fries Appear to be real potatoes. The bar area is dive bar-ish and has a ton of sports stuff decorating almost every available space. There are tv's to watch games. My date had twin bacon wrapped scallops and then the steak sandwich. I had the chicken Philly. The food items are very high quality, it was just under seasoned for us. They do take reservations online. When we got there I was questioning WHY? We ordered the burger and also a steak sandwich. The burger was barely cooked. It was just browned enough on the outside to appear cooked, however it was so raw the blood soaked the bun and made the whole bun pink and mushy. (btw this was delivered, not eaten in house). The steak on the sandwich was tender but very salty. The worst part of it all, the Cilantro. Everything was covered in heaping piles of cilantro, the fries, the burger, and the steak sandwich. Being delivery, I don't expect things to be piping hot. I live about 10 blocks from this establishment and the fries were especially cold and shriveled up. Other than being told "everything is a la carte," not much direction was given. So from where we were sitting, I could see that "Thai Shrimp" and "Walleye" were two options...so we went with that. Shortly after ordering, we saw some Scallops get delivered to a table across from us and asked to add some. The Server asked how many and I said, "Ummm, six?" Again, knowing that we were first timers, she could have explained, "Ok, they're $8 a piece." But much like when ordering the Shrimp, no guidance was given :/ The food arrived and it was very good. Zero issues with any of that. The Server checked back and made sure we were good. I had a nice conversation with either the Manager or Owner, about Major League. So all in all, we were happy about scrambling to make sure we visited 4th Base, prior to our concert. Then the bill came. WHAMMO !! 2 Iced Teas, the Walleye Dinner with Fires, 12 Thai Glazed Shrimp and 6 Scallops...$188. Again, the food was very good. My issue was that our Server knew we'd never been here before. She could see we weren't really sure what to do. A little "heads up" as to what they were charging, would've been nice. If "No Menu" is your policy, fine. But how about writing the prices on the board (where you list some of the meals) so that the patrons have some type of clue. Shame on us, I guess, for not reading all the Yelp reviews prior to stopping in. I was just so excited to check this place out. But also shame on them for not having the waitstaff disclose a little bit about what we should be expecting. It's one thing to go out for a night, planning to drop $225 on Dinner. I went here a long time ago. When I say a long time ago, I'm talking 25 years. My wife at the time, and I, were with another couple and we got a round of tap beers. It cost us $20. I sit down and the bartender informs me of the no pricing policy. I'm just gonna come out and say straightforward, I'm not a fan of that, but, with a pocket full of money, I'm gonna let her rip. I ordered a burger, medium-rare, with bacon, cheddar cheese, and fries. Being a connoisseur of the area, I can tell that the bun is from Grebe's bakery. The meat was very flavorful and cooked to perfection. The bacon was very smoky and a nice complement. The fries were thin, yet hand cut. They were fried crisp and sprinkled with parmesan. This is a really interesting place. The old school sports bar vibe is undeniable. The room and decor scream dive bar, but the ingredients on offer yell fine dining. The idea of a menu for 4th Base is kind of an illusion. They have a specials board and there are dishes listed on their web site, but it's really a make your own meal place. You pick your ingredients and they cook it, I'm sure within reason. The staff are friendly and the service is good. We were lucky enough to have the place mostly to ourselves at 11 on a Saturday for brunch. Good Bloody Marys with full size "chaser." Dad's hamburger was good and served with a massive pile of onion straws. BF had a hash made with crab and he loved it. Portions were generous. Mom tried a bacon wrapped shrimp and quite enjoyed it, although at $8 a pop it could be a pricey side. We both tried a crabmeat eggs Benedict which were very good. You've probably heard things about 4th Base. No menu, no fixed prices. They'll make whatever you want, really. This is unique in Milwaukee so I feel like it makes people nervous. Here's what to expect: Completely casual - the walls and ceilings are covered in sports memorabilia. There will be a game on one of several TV's if s game is being played. No need to dress any special way - whatever you have on will be fine. Definitely check out the cool vintage pinball machine at the end of the bar and maybe bet the bartender for shots if they aren't busy. Food - I can't tell you what to get because they'll pretty much make whatever you want if they have the ingredients on hand. We had a shrimp cocktail with the biggest shrimp I've ever seen, and I had a burger that had egregious amounts of delicious bacon and avocado on it (nothing is skimpy at all in the food department). The Mister had a giant piece of walleye plus a few giant bacon wrapped scallops. The world is your oyster (they have those too) as long as your wallet can support it. More on that later. Drinks - they have beer (macros and some nice craft choices) and a full bar. Wine seemed to be limited to Charles Shaw which is a hard no from me. We had Old Fashioned which were "ok" - a little weak. Service - casual and friendly. You might feel a little like you wandered into a friends mancave and he's going to cook up some dinner for you. The owner (CJ) gave us the full rundown and cooked everything exactly how we wanted it. Prices - this is where people get weird about 4th Base. Our bill wasn't small. BUT, reflecting honestly - we agreed that everything we ate (including the French fries!) was the best or close to the best of that item that we'd ever had. My burger was juicy, flavorful and generously loaded with toppings. 4th Base offers up superlative eats in a comfortable sports bar environment. I've been to 4th Base on several occasions and have enjoyed my experience each and every time. If you're looking for eats, when you arrive, simply wander around the bar until you find their deli case full of fabulous. From there, you can kind of get an idea of what you might like and then the server will help you dial in your order. Ie: My husband saw they had chicken breasts and wanted some sort of chicken sandwich. The server explained the number of ways they could prepare the chicken until he ultimately settled on a cajun chicken sandwich. What I love: +They make a killer (and ample) Manhattan +They know how to do a perfect sear on scallops (an interestingly rare talent) +Their bacon wrapped scallops rock socks +The loaded baked potato. Yes, please and thank you! It's an odd notion not having a menu, but a fun one that lets you customize your order. The one thing it can lead to is sticker shock (when not faced with a menu reflecting prices, it's easy to order the moon and then wonder what happened when the bill arrives). But, you can always ask what something is going to cost and they're more than happy to let you know. The service is always exemplary. Oh! We found this place online and were happy that they could seat a party of 10. Upon arrival, the bartender/server was very friendly and accommodating. We'd had never been here and were a little shocked to find out they didn't have a menu. However, we figured it out with the help of the server and all ordered. The first problem was the timing of the food. The 2 ribeyes came out first--both ordered Medium, but unfortunately 1 was well done. The final 3 meals came over 30 minutes after the others when everyone else had finished. We boxed 2 of them to go, but had out of town guests leaving in the morning who did not want to take their food to go. The biggest problem came as we walked out. There was a gentleman sitting at the bar drinking and occasionally grabbing what looked like a handful of pasta from behind the food station. As our family was congregated outside, with our 2 young children, the man that was across the bar came over and asked the server if we had paid. We did. And didn't even complain about the $45 overcooked steak or $14 veg stir fry that my SIL didn't get to eat and enjoy. We also left an appropriate cash tip for our server. There are probably multiple reasons why the man (probably drunk manager) questioned if we had paid. We were a racially blended family and the only Black folks in the restaurant at the time, outside of the cook. We were also a large party and had spent a good amount of money. My major issue comes from the way the 'manager' questioned my family and then continued to insult us once I confronted him and told him we would not be returning. I also don't like leaving negative reviews because I know it affects the back and front of house staff working there. But being completely honest, the food was subpar, a couple things over-cooked and unacceptable that 3 people in our party received their meals after everyone else was finished. They also don't tell you the price of anything and items fluctuated pretty drastically. The only thing that was different for my steak dinner was I added bacon bits to my potato, it was an additional $5. Four small florets of broccoli added to pasta also cost $6. We won't be visiting this place again and would strongly advise that others do not either. read more

Then we had bacon wrapped shrimp and scallops and they were superb. They've also got Spotted Cow on tap and friendly prompt service.
