Food Service and friendly staff all around. Fish fry, fried cod was fantastic. Great value for the $$. Friendly staff, very welcoming. Menu selections for food was good. I will have to go back to try the drink menu. The bloody Mary, drink or meal intrigued me. All of the food coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic. Are the portion sizes meant to be shared? Ambiance, fair, but you don't go to place for the Ambiance. Great food, Great service and Great value. Recession, don't tell the patrons at this establishment. Food- Did the Friday Cod, BEWARE to start with the Famous Beer Battered Cod, and if you eat more per Jessica our waitress you can always upgrade. We were told this AFTER the fact even when we only ate two pieces of fish. So much for acknowledging your customers or apologizing and fixing the issue. The food was good and the portion was really really good. Hence why we didn't do the all you can eat. Customer Service- Horrible, per our waitress she doesn't give out her name unless a customer ask. Her name is Jessica and she can improve a lot. I suggest management work with their employees to improve customer service. Recommend- absolutely not. Good luck. This was my first time eating at this restaurant and it is only okay. I had a bacon cheese burger and my boyfriend ordered the steak. While the burger did taste good, it wasn't worth it for the price. I have had much better at other restaurants for much less. This might not be the place to order a burger but I had a taste of the steak which was very good. Also, I normally do not like cooked carrots and I do not know what they do to them to make them taste so good, but they turned into my favorite vegetable there! Definitely would come here again just for a side of carrots. The staff were very friendly and attentive. What made this experience not so great was the garbage and food that was under our table. It had to be a build up of many different groups, there was no space for my feet without touching something unknown under there. read more

Stopped in one afternoon with my mother and sister (who both live in the area) a couple of weeks ago. Decor - some really cool and interesting stuff on the walls all shouting an airport/airplane theme (I suppose being so close to Gen. Mitchell Airport gave the owners inspiration). Adult libations - My sister and I tried the Flight Deck beer sampler. We got to choose 6(?) different brews each served in 5 oz. glasses. Really novel and ideal for beer lovers who want to try samples of various beers without committing to a pint each. Food - My mom opted for the nachos and sister chose a prime rib(?)/French dip sandwich. I went with the Pizza Burger. Hey, I had to try something I couldn't find on a menu here in Texas, right? Anyway, the burger didn't look all that spectacular, but wow, was it tasty! Using Italian sausage instead of beef for the patty; genius! Service - Our server was quite attentive! She told us her name, but I don't remember it (I suppose posting a review 2 weeks later could have something to do with that). She was a matured lady with long reddish hair kept in a ponytail. Great food.....that receive s 5 stars. Absolutely horrible service. Our waitress brought us out the wrong salads and then we waited at least another 15 minutes for the correct ones. She could not remember my husband's drink order either. We both had the walleye and it was delicious, but we waited one hour and 10 minutes for our dinners to arrive as we watched several tables around us to receive their meals. I've been here many times with my family and the steaks are okay. Came here again on a Friday night and besides the stellar hostess and waitress service, it really needs improvement. Decided to go with the Tilapia, rice and vegetables for lighter fare, which is not easy to do at Final Approach. They specialize in prime rib, breaded fish fry, pasta dishes swimming in butter. The Tilapia was seasoned nicely, but smelled fishy. The vegetables were a nice mix, but the rice seemed to be instant rice and smelled like chlorinated water. Inedible. My sister liked her garlic shrimp pasta dish, but it was swimming in butter. My son raved about his steak (and it was a perfect medium), but I stole his salad, and it was mostly browned iceberg lettuce. Even the naked eye could see brown from several feet away and that's inexcusable to serve old lettuce like that. This place has a huge smoking section and the Southsiders take full advantage of that. July 1 smoking ban coming atcha, Milwaukee! The bar looks like a fun place to belly up, and the service really is great here. I just wish they took more pride in their food and offered even slightly healthy offerings. read more

Private lot and while the old bbq restaurant is closed feel free to park there if there are no spots over on the Final Approach lot. Tip: Call a head for reservations - especially if you have a large group. We had a group of 8 and didn't have any problems getting a reservation at 5:30 pm and I had called around Noon the same day. Huge beer selection! Has your standard beers on tap plus Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, Polka King, Shake Chocolate Porter and many more. You won't be disappointed. Plenty of choices for Fish Fry on a Friday and not just during let. 1. Broiled Tilapia - $12,05 - served with rice and veggies 2. Slaw was okay - it was vinegar type; not the creamy slaw I love. The potato pancakes were homemade and came with your choice of apple sauce or syrup - apple sauce of course! I normally don't get the pancakes unless they are homemade and these really hit the spot with the fish. The service was good too. Takes reservations, split checks for our group of 8 - even though I know that is a pain for the waitress. This could be my new go to on the South Side for fish fry after lent. I'm in love with this classic. It's been around longer than I've been here, but it never fails to feel like home. If you want a treat, order the mozzarella wontons. You won't regret it. Also, the deep fried Reuben rolls - you just have to try them. Otherwise, the place is 80's sheik. Waitresses call you 'honey' and the food is from the heart. Definitely a family friendly place, but they also have a full bar for sports and such. Give it a try. read more

This was a pretty okay place to grab a bite to eat right before our flight. The food wasn't absolutely fantastic, but it actually wasn't too bad. I believe I got a steak sandwich with house made chips on the side and it was pretty good! My dining partner got the portabella mushroom sandwich and that wasn't too bad either, although it was a little soggy. That came with a pasta salad on the side. Finally, we got cheddar cheese curds as an appetizer, which really ended up being closer to mozzarella sticks. They were okay, but I wouldn't get them again. With respect to the service, we were placed away from the rest of the diners in an annex all alone, which was kind of weird. However, our waitress was really nice and we got to have a good conversation since it wasn't too busy. Also, the interior design is super cool, with lots of aviation-related things on the wall that look to have been pulled straight from the scrapyard! In conclusion, I think I would go back to this place since it is one of the few restaurants near to the airport with prices and food that are much better than in the airport itself. read more

On our Lenten fish fry taste test mission we had to stop at Final Approach. First, the place is very busy so plan ahead with reservations or sit at the bar like we did. I asked the bartender for his favorite fish and he said the walleye so I obliged and gave it a test. The walleye portion is a nice chunk of fish that is lightly breaded. The breading was a little bland so I had to squeeze some lemon and salt it up. Once I had that accomplished the flavor was great. I opted for the potato pancakes which I thought were way too sweet. I don't know what they added to their mix. Also they were really greasy so stick with the fries like my hubby ate. He had the fried cod which had a nice light batter that was flavorful. The walleye with fries or the battered cod with fries is the way to roll here. The coleslaw was a light vinegar base but the rye bread was a little crusty because it was starting to dry out a bit. Also, if you get the hefe-weiss beer note that they don't serve it in the proper glass because it is smaller than the typical .5 Liter. They charge the same price as the normal size so I brought it up to the bartender. He fessed up and poured me another beer for free so service was very good at the bar. read more

My friend decided to order food and I followed suit and decided to have their all you can eat shrimp. Wow was it a lot of food!! 15 boiled (you peel) shrimp with soup/salad and choice of potato, slaw, or pasta salad. Friend had the French Dip and was what you would expect from a casual dining place. We saw the pics-and the fish looked like the pics-but it had too much breeding and too little flavor. The potato pancakes were super thin and extremely greasy. The old fashion was ok at best-we didn't try the muddled version, just the regular version. We'd recommend The Packing House over the Final Approach for fish and potato pancakes. read more

We were seated immediately on a Sunday evening. Very friendly & attentive staff (not overly so though). We ordered the cheddar cheese curdsas appetizers - very tasty! I ordered a salmon dish (I don't remember the exact name but it came with shrimp, rice and vegetables) the salmon was cooked well and the sauce it came in was very good. Also came with soup or salad - I got the chili. Very good with a slight kick. Altogether a good dish but I'd try something else next time I come here. My husband got the Juicy Lucy which he said was very good. The burger looked juicy and the bun was toasted to give that yummy crunch. I would come here again and recommend it to others. read more

This is the second time we have come here and we are very glad we did. All of the dressings and sauces are made from scratch. The portions are more than generous. The staff is very helpful and genuinely glad to see you. If you need a cool atmosphere, this is probably not the place. Very comfortable family atmosphere. The wait staff (Jennifer) did a great job, very conscience of needs and wants while dining. The chili looked delicious, however with my allergy to bell peppers, I wasn't able to eat it, my partner said it was great. I had the coconut shrimp, it was large and cooked perfectly, the mango dip they serve with it is homemade and out of this world. Prices were average, good value for the price. We tried Final Approach for lunch on Sunday (for the 1st time) based on Yelp reviews. The parking just sucks....I had to say that. The lot is small and hard to maneuver in and out of. Inside was charming. They had a fireplace going and it had a comfortable and relaxing vibe which was nice. We started out with the Wonton Cheesesticks which was a blend of 3 cheeses. I felt that the outer wrapper could have been crispier. It all kind of had a chewy feel. The taste was ok but I don't think I'd order it again. The sauce however looked homemade and was delicious, there were onions and veggies that didn't seem jarred or canned. I ordered their French Onion Soup. This was the FIRST time I've ever had it served with a KNIFE! I have to say...I'm going to ask for a knife every time. It made my life easier! There was lots of cheese and it had a good flavor. I've had better but this one was good...I'd order this again. For my meal I ordered their Chicken Tenders with their homemade BBQ sauce. Those were good! Nice and crispy (not too crispy) with a nice flavor. My husband ordered the Turkey Burger which he's never tried before and said it was quite good! Our waitress was Colleen and she took good care of us. We never ran out of beverages or needed anything. All in all....we'll be back to try something else at dinner time. read more
