Now I haven't been to Fig Tree before last Friday since it was the italian, bring your own wine jam. It essentially has the same layout as before (a nice indoor out door, breezy place) but serves breakfast and lunch now. They have a large menu offering a variety of things that caters to both meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Upon walking in, the staff was immediately welcoming and sat us right away. The menu covered a bunch of different avenues and since it was late breakfast early lunch time frame, I didn't know what to choose from. Everyone else went with a different breakfast items which included potatoes and toast like standards breakfasts do. Being a lunch person myself, I went grilled cheese and tomato soup (to fulfill a craving). The bread was amazingly fluffy without a hint of sogginess and the cheese didn't solidfy up immediately like most. The tomato soup had great flavor with a hint of different spices which gave it more depth than expected. Overall, between service, ambiance and taste, I really enjoyed the Fig Tree Cafe. They do take credit cards and have generally enough space to accommodate, however my main concern would be parking in the busy summer months due to their lack of parking lot and street parking three blocks from the beach. read more

1.29.12: WTH such a long wait. Okay with this type of wait this place must be good. OH HELL NO! OVERRATED! We were seated after 40 minutes. Our table was not cleaned, the previous customer's check was still on the table. There were table crumbs and stains on the table cloth. The hostess made it worst by brushing the crumbs with her hands while some of it flew on my lap. Gross! really? This was very disappointing. Next I see the hostess go to two empty tables and she puts new tablecloths on them. She couldn't do that for us? On to the food: We ordered the Stuffed French toast, surfer sandwich with garlic fries. Since everyone raved about their coffee cake we ordered that too. Stuffed French Toast is nothing amazing. It was edible. Surfer Sandwich: I noticed its not on the online menu..I see why, it was not good at all. The sad part is it was recommended by the server. Garlic Fries: Poor excuse for garlic fries. They gave us fries and they gave us raw garlic. We asked for another one and the server asked if she can take the whole plate away. I told her, no, and looked at her irritated. I said " Our meal is on the same plate and we are eating, can you not give us another order?" She said okay. Really? Do I really have to be the one telling her that she can't take our plate? I love outdoor dining and good food so this place is a winner in my book. Service: Everyone is really nice and helpful, but very busy. She refilled my tea when it was getting low and checked on us the perfect amount. Food: Everything here looks really good. I've had an eggs benedict and the stuffed French toast. It was rolled not stuffed, with the mascarpone and fruit in the middle, but either way it tasted delicious. I want to work my through their egg bennies. They have some fun muddled and puréed fruit cocktails but I haven't tried any of them. Ambiance: I think all of the tables are outside, either under trees or a patio cover. It's super relaxed and some people had kids or dogs. When you don't want to cook breakfast, this is a great alternative. But shhh! Don't tell everyone! These include spicy blood Mary's, mimosas (grapefruit and orange), among other yummy cocktail treats. Husband and I shared the turkey sandwich. It was a little too rich for me, but he loved it. We came in around 9:30am and got a table right away. Food was delicious. We had California omelet and brisket egg benedict. Their breakfast potatoes are the best I ever had. Our 2 year old was with us. He ate all his eggs and a slice of bread with jam. Our waiter (Francisco) was chatting with us and my husband told him that we came from Sacramento for the weekend to celebrate my birthday. Few minutes later Francisco came back with a most delicious house made desert and happy birthday message. This was most definitely the highlight of our trip. Came here on a weekend for brunch since my friend has a group on. It's a homey looking place with all outdoor seating. Luckily for us it was overcast and neither too hot nor cold. I had the sausage omelet ($10), Jess L. had the crab cake eggs benedict, and we split a half order of french toast ($4.50). Food took a while to come out but it was a busy weekend and we weren't in a hurry, just hungry! My omelet had plenty of sausage, spinich, mushrooms, red onion, and cheese. The red onion flavor was too strong for my liking and I generally like onions. The side of potatoes were crispy and satisfying. I thought the French Toast was the best thing we had, especially the citrus flavored syrup. The portions were plentiful and we were stuffed. Overall Fig Tree Cafe is a solid 3+ stars. It's nice that you can bring your dog, but we didn't have one so that's a moot point. The location is a little out of the way since you still have to drive a bit after getting off the freeway. I prefer something a little more posh; this isn't the type of place you would want to bring a date to impress them. This place is a good local place to eat breakfast. I'm not sure if they serve other food besides breakfast, but it's good. I do wish that they had more options though. Anyways, I got the spicy sausage omelette and it was yummy. One minor thing that kind of bugged me was that I'm not sure if they have everything on the menu. I saw that there wasn't apple juice on the menu but asked anyways and turned out that they did have it, maybe time to update the menus?? Also, I felt that the food was a little overpriced. We came to this place with Groupon deal ($9 for $20 meal) for our Saturday brunch during memorial day weekend. First impression, the exterior is very cute. They use the old house and re-decorate it to the house style restaurant. We loved it! At that time it was already 2pm so there were less customers. We had ordered two plate, their famous french toast with peach ($10) and traditional Egg Benedict ($8) The french toast was really good! It was well cooked with soft inside, it was one of the best french toast I had tasted at San Diego. The Egg Benedict was around average, but I still liked it and my wife loved it! I personally loved the stirred potato and onions which came with the Egg Benedict. The only problem was their ice coffee was too light, we needed more caffeine! Met here for brunch with a couple of college friends to talk about our senior thesis project. The location is amazing. The patio is great for perfect weather days in San Diego. Nice breeze and plenty of shade. If I wasn't mistaken, this seem to be a house that got converted into a restaurant. Awesome creativity. The menu's was filled with nothing but glorious meal options. My eyes were stuck on the Red Velvet French toast with a side of "Man Candy". Man Candy is applewood bacon covered with paprika and brown sugar. I came here for Sunday Brunch and it was super full! There was a 45 minute wait when we came and although it was a long wait, I had read some really great reviews so my friend and I decided to try it out anyways. We were seated at this really cool window opening that looked out into the the main area of the restaurant. It was a great seat and the whole restaurant had this cool outdoorsy hip vibe, but it took forever for a server to come and even take our drink order! Even though it did seem like a busy morning, I still thought the service was slow. Having already had to wait such a long time to be seated, I didn't appreciate how long it took for us to be noticed at our seats. As for food, I was craving something more on the saltier side rather than sweet, so I ordered the Traditional Bennie (regular eggs benedict). It was good, however the potatoes were definitely on the salty sauce and my eggs benedict barely had any hollandaise sauce. I was pretty sad about that, having been super excited about the food. The mimosa with freshly squeezed orange juice was great though. The place is so cute, I thought for a second about quitting my corporate job, getting a small studio in Pacific Beach and working here for a living. Mark took excellent care of us. Upon his recommendation, we had the lobster and crab bennie on focaccia bread. We added avocado and tomatoes and upgraded the house potatoes to the ones with arugula, truffle oil and parmesan. The result was one of the best bennies I've ever had! The stuffed french toast with mascarpone, strawberries and mangoes was amazing as well. After the coffee cake and finding out our other friend weren't coming we ordered. I ordered the fennel sausage omelette with the arugula truffle potatoes. Our food did take a little longer than expected but once it came out it looked really good. The fennel sausage omelette has fennel sausage spinach man candy bacon and cheese it was cooked really well and it was a very good omelette. The potatoes were okay, it would be cool if they fried the arugula to add a little more crunch but I mean that's nitpicking the potatoes. All in all if was a good breakfast, this place plays to the area super laid back and all around good food. I will say though expect a little time to wait because after we sat down it got really packed especially for a Wednesday. My only thing is just clean the place up a little more, the floors and the tables and the chairs just look dirty and that is really off putting to a customer. It has skirt steak eggs avocado pico de gallo bacon and cheese and was probably the best out of all the food we ordered. Not the best burrito tho... From my experience here, the server Monica was very friendly but service was slow, food and drinks came out slow, the food was bland and pricey... I had high hopes for this place and wanted to like it! But the value, the food quality and slow service didn't cut it. I live Fig. I've always loved them. I've been going here for over 10 years and I must say, I won't go back until they enforce the mask rule. I sat at the table by the entrance today for almost 2 hours.. service and food were great no issues.. my issues are people walking in and out without the masks and the restaurant not enforcing it. I work at an establishment that requires masks myself and if I see someone walking in without one I politely ask them to please put it on. Everyone is forgetful of them I guess and that's fine but I said something to multiple people today and they ignored me. I am sorry if I am a Karen but my own business is shut down because of people like these and I am frustrated. I love you guys Fig but need to enforce the mask rule..
