I've been trying to take my wife to this place for several months but for many reasons it just never panned out. The Thursday-Saturday schedule they hold often led to us being unable to go minus the kids. In addition to all the rain we've experienced January till now. On to the food...
We arrived around 7:45 PM Thursday. Restaurant closes at 9:30, however, the kitchen closes 30 mins prior. We had no idea what to expect. We get there & the place SEEMS crowded. The outdoor patio was full of patrons. We are like great...we might be in for a LONG wait (This place doesn't do reservations)Wrong! Whilst the patio was full, the indoor seating was pretty empty. It was easy to see why. It was about 67 degrees outside, beautiful evening in winters & inside, it was about 57 degrees. But not to worry. A couple of sangrias later and me & the wife are feeling pretty toasty. Interestingly, you order here like you are at Rubio's or pieology. The permanent menu & daily specials are written on a board above. You place your order, they give you a number & you find a table inside or outside. A few items like the chicken tostadas are served room temp which you can carry away along with your drink of choice to the table of your choosing. You can keep an open tab if you plan to order more tapas or simply pay and walk away at your own discretion. I advise getting at least 4 different tapas when you place your order. The portions while not too small are not big by any stretch of the imagination. My wife and I had several to start. The chicken tostadas, beef teriyaki skewers, wild mushroom ravioli, garlic shrimp & queso crostini. Tostadas were REALLY good, beef skewers were good not great, the ravioli was just ok (tasted like the samples @costco) with their own 2 sauces, garlic shrimp was really tasty & the crostini was PHENOMENAL! So out of those 5 my wife & I agree on 3 that WHEN we come back we're getting the tostadas, shrimp & crostini for sure. After we finished the first sangrias , 1 a piece, we are not lushes...sheesh! I ordered 2 more sangrias, the empanada & the chili chicken dish. The sangrias rocked, the empanada was akin to a small chimichanga ( threw us both off ) kinda blah & the chili chicken was FREAKING amazing. So now we have 4 go to tapas when we head back. Those will be the 4 starter tapas & we will try others that we simply didn't have the stomach room for this time. Oh, & the garlic aioli served with bread (complimentary) was out of this world! Hint: it has lots of raw garlic, so it does have a bite! So don't even think about French kissing after eating it. We did in the car & we both just started cracking up. Hella potent breath! I look forward to future trips here. The ambience of this place is pretty subtle. It's all in the company you share while there. The service is relatively fast and attentive when you get your items, however, the way this place is set up, you ultimately determine how much attention you get.
Oh I almost forgot. They are now going to be open on Wednesday's...taco Wednesday 5-9PM CASH ONLY starting 4/26/17. I might check that out too...
Prices vary by tapa. Some are inexpensive $6 & I think the most expensive was $14 for a sampler of some sort. For us 7 tapas & 4 drinks was $70. Worth every penny. Good food, good drinks, good laughs, good company & no kids! Would do it again in a second read more
