What a wonderful place! The food is delicious and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The patrons seem to be mainly locals, so the whole atmosphere feels very down-to-earth and honest. Ok... small plates are popular now... but if you like to EAT instead of snack... go somewhere else. Our friends were already there.. had a bottle of wine and a veggie plate to share? Wow... if you had your jaws wired you could live on this dish.. 3 tiny pieces of salami, some kidney beans and garbanzo beans, 2 crackers, some peppers- and a tablespoon of cream cheese! Oh! And a few green beans! We ordered sliders (2 for $6) Teriyaki skewers.. more like jerky- $6... fries and a dip ( best thing we tried!) You have to order at the counter- then go pick it up- each time! Want ice water? Get it yourself too! The patio deck was lovely after the sun went down! Total for 4 adults... who had to stop at McDonalds on the wAy home to EAT?? $150.00!!! What? I've been here twice now and both visits were outstanding. I definitely recommend the polenta and the garlic shrimp "Gambas al Ajillo", and especially the Sangria. Don't miss that! This is the kind of place that my Dad wouldn't eat at. First, the interior is small and noisy, (I prefer the patio), you order at the counter, and they serve things small-plate style. My Dad is old school. He likes full service, padded chairs, an extensive wine list, but mostly full service. However my girlfriends and I see it differently. The noise covers our mom rant, the Sangria needs no discussion over a wine list, and small plates are perfect for sharing. The food is excellent. What I do NOT love? I do not love getting back in line to order more/dessert. Or showing up on a Friday night in January and finding them closed. What I love (but scares me) is that garlic spread they bring with the bread. It is addicting, but ***WARNING*** I woke up with the flavor of garlic still in my mouth the next morning and no amount of tooth-brushing helped. But I'd probably do it again. Bring a group and order a bunch of little plates, come when the weather is nice and enjoy the patio with heaters. Drink Sangria. Don't kiss anyone for a few days. read more

While the food here is decent yet overpriced, I recently had an awful experience with the staff. A few weeks ago, I was eating dinner with a friend. After dinner, we went to the register to pay. I asked the waitress to please split the bill evenly. She said ok, and then charged me for the entire meal. When I pointed it out to her, she "voided" the transaction, then asked me for my card so that she could charge me again, but for half of the price of the meal. I looked at my bank statement a few days later and lo and behold, she had charged me for both transactions - I was charged triple the amount that I was supposed to pay! I immediately contacted the owner, who sent me a brief and rude reply about how I should clear the problem with my bank. After a 2 hour phone call with my bank, I filed a claim and, a few days later was reimbursed (the bank took care of it - not the restaurant owner). Throughout this ordeal I never once received any kind of apology or offer for help from the owner. She treated me as though I did something wrong, rather than her incompetent staff. I have never been treated so rudely in my life, and when I pay $50 for a dinner that left me hungry, I at least expect some decent customer service. It's safe to say that I will not be coming here again. read more

Always pleasant at Ficelle and the dishes always please! Inside seating or out the service is prompt and courteous and the surroundings are natural - nothing forced or fake. Start off with complimentary French bread and a garlic dip that is robust -and well, I always seem to order the Cannelloni del Mar and sweet potato fries but there are many fresh dishes to choose among. The chilli chicken breast is also awesome and my other fall back when dining alone. Open only Thursday through Sat evenings so don't show up Sunday! read more

My favorite was the polenta with roasted veggies, but I also really liked the crostini con queso, the chile relleno, and the caprese salad. First visit last night with some friends and family. I think my cousin ordered "one of everything", 'cause the food just kept coming, wave after wave of tapa deliciousness! The ajo (sp?) garlic spread is fantastic, along with the sangria, eggplant, and chile relleno. I didn't get to try the lamb, but everybody at the table said it was great. The food here is quite impressive. The standouts for me were the sliders and the incredible chile relleno. That chile relleno is seriously impressive. Don't forget, if you go, order the chile relleno. There are no reservations and there is no waiting list, so be prepared to hover and swoop the moment a table opens up. Before you go, if you watch some nature shows about airborne predators you'll get the general idea of what it's going to be like. Who could imagine that a place like this would exist in Winters? Ficelle (at the time of this writing) was the best meal I had within the last year. Everything on their brilliant rotating menu will come out perfectly. They serve tapas sized portions, but I would say that there are more French and Italian influences than Spanish. They make a killer Sangria, I just wished that our party of four could finish a pitcher. My favorite dish was their Canelone del Mar, a stuffed crab and shrimp pasta. We also had their chicken parm cooked and seasoned beautifully. The wild mushroom ravioli was one of the best raviolis I've ever had the chance to taste. I wasn't much of a fan of the Chile Relleno de la Noche, a stuffed poblano chile. And the Big Daddy is a tasty french bread on steroids. It wasn't even expensive. Its somewhat of a splurge for a college student, but well worth it. Cheers! read more

Tapas. are. fantastic. This place was recommended by word of mouth and I feel like this is the only way people know about it which is good! It's a little hole in the wall place that is hard to find if you're not explicitly looking out for it. I have to agree with all the other fantastic reviews, it really is that cool of a place. The only gripe would be the pricing but hey, if you're looking for a good time then you'll have to be willing to pay for it. Only since I still have a college-student budgeted mind at times, I would say it's a 4.5-star rating (wish Yelp would allow 4.5 stars but they only let me do 4-stars or 5-stars). I got the cheese and nuts plate which was fantastic and also some of the tacos that night. I brought my girlfriend here and she and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere and ambiance is very unique too, it's definitely an older crowd (think mid-50's to seniors with their kids or grandchildren) but we fit in perfectly. Everyone is just so happy here! The food is fantastic and it almost seems like an afterthought at the pace that some people are eating very slowly but I found out it's to enjoy the food and to really get back to the authenticity of dinner which is to say.. enjoyable conversations with the people around you! At times, some people would join our table and we'd strike up conversation and it was all very pleasant. You MUST try their in-house made Sangria's, they are not too strong but the fruit combinations they have in it is absolutely heavenly and tasty beyond anything. One of the only places I have enjoyed Sangria besides in Spain. Definitely check this place out. I live in Davis but the drive out here to Winters was worth it just because of Ficelle's! Winters is such a hidden gem of a town, and Ficelle is one of the major reasons why. I used to frequent this place much more when my girlfriend attended Davis, but I still make sure to stop by at least twice a year. They serve untraditional tapas--yet tapas nonetheless--to be shared with friends/family/heck, even strangers. We always order the gambas al ajillo (arguably the best I've had), a stuffed chile relleno, and then one or two other small plates that sound appealing that day. They used to make an awesome basque-style sausage and garbanzos dish, but I haven't seen it in a few years. Bummer. Oh well, though, because everything I've had has been awesome. Shreaded beef with polenta chile relleno Sangria (home made with fresh fruit) & fresh bread to sop up all that goodness :-) Very casual outside patio, with a live ambient guitarist playing soulfully on this evening. Service was great & friendly (you actually order at the counter and get your drinks there, too). Indoor seating also available, but we wanted to hear the music and enjoy the weather. Okay, I realize I have rated other things as being 5-star... Ficelle makes me almost want to go and lower all those ratings because this place truly is five star. Everything was PHENOMENAL. The service was absolutely incredible and the food was equally fantastic. My boyfriend, his father, and I went there to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. Since it was our first time at Ficelle we had no idea what to order and let them order for us. We started with the vegetable platter that had cheese and salami. The roasted bell peppers were great! I was hungry and thought this dish was fabulous... but I had no idea what was in store for me since this quickly became my least favorite dish (although it was still great - everything else was just THAT mind blowingly delicious). The other dishes we ate, mind you I don't know the actual names, were: -chili shrimp -chile relleno -teriyaki skewers -ravioli -lamb with sweet potatoes -empanada -canneloni -eggplant stack I think there might have been another dish... but I can't think of it. My favorite dishes were the lamb and sweet potatoes, teriyaki skewers, chile relleno, and chili shrimp. But seriously, everything was awesome. I will definitely be back! The food was amaaaaazing and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. It felt like I was dining amongst family and friends with the way they treated us. LOVED IT!!!! Omg!!! This place was such a fantastic experience! Went for the first time this past Saturday with friends and it did not disappoint! From the service to the food, everything was excellent! We ordered a variety of dishes ranging from beef skewers to the eggplant stack to the empanadas! But by far, one of the best things was the chile relleno! Really nice environment and helpful front counter help to get us acclimated to the process. We ordered the about 7 tapas plates including desert and every one of them was prepared well and tasted incredible. Such good flavors and fresh ingredients. Really well priced and quick service to boot! We both enjoyed having such a variety of items and flavors and will definitely be back again. Came to Lake Berryessa with friends for the weekend and stopped here because of the good reviews... So glad we did! My friend Olivia invited me here because she said it was her absolute favorite little gem that NOBODY knows about.. and now I see why. SUCH a cute little place with amazing, well-priced food. The woman who rang us up was so nice and helpful and full of energy. I guess this is a family-run restaraunt and you can tell they take pride in their food and service. They've got a variety of tapas for vegetarians! We got the eggplant dish, the crustini (?) dish, and the spicy shrimp dish. ALL were amazing, especially the shrimp. She described it as "cooked to perfection" and that is basically dead-on. If you like tapas, this is the place to go. Winters is a small, little-known town near Vacaville and you won't be disappointed to make the short drive. Definitely going back again when I have a bigger appetite and more time. I'm very sad that I didn't know about Ficelle while I was living in Davis! Ficelle is so great that it makes me wish a little bit that I still lived in the area. I went to Ficelle for the first time yesterday, and it was fantastic! Our favorite dishes were the 'Canelone del Mar', the 'Chile Relleno de la Noche', and the house garlic dipping sauce served with bread. They all tasted phenomenally wonderful! I only wish this place was open everyday so that I could go back and try some different dishes before I have to leave town. The place does get quite busy but the staff are all very affable and courteous. Highly recommend this place! read more

Very disappointed because I've been here in the past and it was a great experience. Today we arrived with a group of friends and all ordered at the same time. Within 30 minutes our friends had all been served so we went in and asked for an update on our order and were told 5 minutes. After another 10 minutes we asked again for an update as all of our friends had nearly finished eating. We were told it was on its way and I told them we needed to leave in the next 10 minutes because it was our babies bedtime. After those 10 minutes we asked for our refund. The staff said they did not have access and could not provide the refund because there was no manager there to approve it. They then told us our food was ready and asked if we'd like that. We could not stay due to our child's bedtime and told them if they could provide it to go as well as the refund and they said they were not authorized to do that. So we left with no food and still no refund or contact from the manager. Cashier was not friendly and seemed like we were being a burden. But after an hour of waiting and no food I expected better service or more effort on their behalf. I understand that mistakes happen but I am disappointed in my experience. read more
