    lola's house salad
    Loredo L.

I was really excited to try this Puerto Rican restaurant as I'm a huge fan of Caribbean food. The place is located close to the 16th Ave exit on US 50. Inside it's very swanky with dim red neon lighting and salsa music in the background. This reminded me of salsa dancing nights long ago when I lived in Washington, DC. I was quickly greeted by the server who was very attentive. The food tasted very authentic and homemade. The house salad and plantain maduros were very tasty. This was my first time eating mofungo which also tasted great. The coquito cheesecake was a delightful dessert. I look forward to coming back with my wife.

It's been so long since I've been to Lola's Lounge, that I didn't realize I'd been here before; just previously during their Elk Geove location. My girlfriend and I dined at Lola's Lounge off Broadway for the first time this past week. Once we arrived we were greated and aaked if we wanted to sit inside our outdoors, to which we opted to sit outdoors. The outdoor area is a nice spacious area, with a homely and simply vibe. Filled with vibrant decor, assorted plants and knick snacks. It such a chill vibe, which is great for couples dinning and large parties of families and friends. Our waiter was very friendly and extremely welcoming, and he made several suggestions for dishes and drinks; several of which we ended up getting. Drinks: Passionfruit Paloma - $16 Happy Cuba Libre - $8 Appetizer: Half Tostones Half Maduritos - $12 Main Course: Blackened Salmon - $29 PR Special - $22 Dessert: Flancocho - $11 The appetizer...cheap The drinks...great The food...amazing! The half Tostones and half Maduritos were really and inexpensive ($12). We loved the chopped garlic on the Tostones, and the Maduritos were simple as they should be. The PR Mule and Paloma were large in portion and really good as well. And the Blackened Salmon and PR Special were delicious as well, and I'll neber turn down more Maduros as the PR Special came with them as well. I'd originally wanted to order the Mofongo, but unfortunately they were out at the time so I'll have to try it the next time we go. Overall: Great food and drinks, great outdoor patio and dinning experience. Very friendly staff. We'll definitely be back!

Authentic Puerto Rican food!! Delicious food and great service. The atmosphere is fun. I'm definitely returning . They have live music sometimes so call and ask and also make reservations. The back patio is decorated and gives you Puerto Rican vibes.

Took a poll amongst the girlie group chat and consensus led us to Lola's! Can't believe I've been sleeping on this place. The food, the space, the bartenders Joel and Hector! Can't believe this place isn't more well-known. The food was amazing- we got the papas and empanadas app. Ordering was very well-guided as well. Entrees we got included the pollo con arroz, pollo guisado and Puerto Rican special. Also got the flan with chocolate cake and what pierto rican meal would be complete without coquito!

Lola's is normally so good (usually 5/5) so I refuse to give lower than 3 stars, but my last visit wasn't up to par :( 1 of our apps never came. The tostones were very burnt. We weren't given plates, had to use napkins, which we had to get from another table. Drinks weren't as well crafted as usual. Even saw a table walk out bcuz of slow service. The chips were not fully cooked and had raw potato centers. Most were stuck together. If this had been my first visit, I wouldn't have come back, but thankfully I know from past experiences this was probably a mishap. I will come back because my first few experiences were outstanding 5/5.

TLDR: Lola's is a great little restaurant, with a really cozy ambience and amazing food. It's a perfect place for date nights where you can usually be assured of great service and food. Our recent visit was definitely NOT the norm. Read on for details. The good: The food was amazing! Presentation was top notch. The Pastelon was very well seasoned, although I wish the portion was larger for the price, and the side of beans and rice were cooked perfectly. The bad: It was cold as heck in the restaurant! The ambient temp was about 65 degrees and they had all the ceiling fans running on high, with the front door open. I noticed other diners were also bundled up in coats. I'm not sure why they didn't at least turn the speed of the fans down. We were initially seated right under a fan and asked to move to a different table that was away from the fans. That seat was better but it was still rather cool in the restaurant. Second, the service was rather slow. I'm sure they made the food fresh so a little wait time is to be expected, but It took so long for our order to come that the server decided to bring us an order of potato chips because he noticed the long wait.

Great outdoor seating. You get to watch humming birds as you eat/drink. Good portion for the price. Didn't get to try paella this time because we wanted to try other foods. Paella was priced at $50 (menu said good for 2 people) so might try just that next time. Overall good experience.

Cool Puerto Rican spot with bar indoor seating and a good sized private patio. It's basically across the street from the iconic Willies Burger downtown. The Bank of America on the other side closed down so we parked in their lot. We tried a lot of things but the wings, paella and choco flan stood out. The wings were giant plump and juicy $13. The paella was covered in home made chips and had an underlying heat. Paella is portioned for 2 at $50. Now I normally don't care for flan as it seems to one note for me. However choco flan is paired with moist chocolate cake and it was the perfect combination. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. The patio is deconstructed granite so I wouldn't recommend bringing your pet unless you don't mind them getting dirty. Overall a great experience here and we would like to try more of the menu.

We tried Lola's Lounge on a whim, and we are really glad we did. I had no idea there was an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant so close to Land Park. Everything about this place is amazing: 1) Love the ambiance. They really go all out for Christmas, and it's a super cute place to have a holiday meal. They even decorate two trees all in Puerto Rican flags and emblems. 2) The staff is great. Super friendly and attentive, and they took the time to not only address my dairy issue, but also just have a nice conversation. 3) The menu is great, as is the taste of the food and the prices. They have an awesome happy hour a few days per week. The vegan bowl was so good, super flavorful. There's actually a lot of dairy-free items here. They also have a ton of fun drinks including Puerto Rican spirits. The only think they are missing is beer from Ocean brewery. Our kids also loved their meals, which is not always the case! Definitely give Lola's a try they next time you want a great dinner out!

Such cool vibes happening at Lola's Lounge. My mom requested this spot for her birthday dinner, and we were all stunned by the beauty and the flavors. Upon arrival we were kindly greeted and seated. I tried the patatas de crema and the Tito's steak. The patatas de crema has a fun wasabi sauce drizzled on it without being too spicy. The Tito's steak wasn't my favorite since it was slightly on the sweeter side but it was still yummy! I loved the salad and the rice that I got with it (I subbed rice for the potatoes). They have a full bar and a beautiful interior. Definitely a great spot for friends, family, or dates!

Nice date night restaurant! Very beautifully decorated. All of the staff here are attentive and friendly. During my visit, I decided to go with the pastelon, which is a plantain lasagna. This was my first time trying something like this and will be back to have it again! The drinks here are also very good.

Seriously good!!! A coworker recommended this place to us, and I'm so glad we finally tried it. It's such a fun atmosphere and the staff were so nice. We were there on a Wednesday night, so it wasn't super busy and that meant we got to chat with the bartender and server for awhile. They gave us great recommendations, and we were so full of delicious food and drink when we left! I would highly recommend checking out Lola's. Especially if you've never had food from PR before. I would love to go back when they have live music to see the place really come to life!

What are the parking options in the area? Is patio seating area heated and covered? Thanks

Parking was somewhat limited but the food and ambience are worth the walk if you have to park a couple of blocks away. Unfortunately, I wasn't privy to seeing the patio area, so I couldn't answer that for you.

Since they have moved to a new location do they still do happy hour?

    Until 6:00 on weekdays

It says give the paella 40 minutes. Does this mean I can get it without mussels if I have an allergy to them? *LOVE paella, but not if it kills me*

    Yes

Is Lolas open downtown yet? I see no recent posts, and the phone # is a Elk Grove telephone number. I know there are a lot of hurdles trying to open a restaurant and hoping the City isn't trying to feed their deep pockets so they can open up soon.

We are open. Celebrated one year on Nov. 3rd. We have a beautiful outdoor patio, indoor dining, take out, and soon DoorDash.

    Where is the new location?

    2424 16th St.

Is there an update phone number? I've been trying to call for reservations for two days but no answer.

1-916-389-0429. I have updated it many times. Yelp is just not posting it.

Is there a private dining area? If so, how many seats?

No private dining. We do rent out indoor and outdoor space.

What are the happy hour deals?

Come in from 4-7 pm.... looks pretty good

Is there live music on Wednesday nights as well?

    Thursday's & Saturdays

Any events going on at Lola's tonight?

We had to flag her down a few times whenever we needed something instead of her checking in on us. We ordered the bistek sandwich and bistek plate. The sandwich was actually really good, although it was a little hard to eat like an actual sandwich because the meat wasn't sliced up. I basically had to eat the steak separately. The sauce it came with aka crack sauce, was SO good. I ended up grabbing a couple to take home because it went well with pretty much everything. Just beware that they charge an extra $1 per sauce. The plantain fries were good, but I wish they were a little crispier. The bistek plate, however, was probably a 3/5 for me. It lacked flavor and just wasn't anything particularly special. We ended up using the crack sauce to give it more flavor. The chicken empanadas were also pretty bland. Overall, the restaurant has a loud, lively atmosphere and the experience was alright. There were definitely some hits and misses, but that crack sauce was easily the highlight!

We also discussed his upbringing in NYC and his long history in the Bay Area's challenging culinary scene. This conversation happened before I had the opportunity to taste the succulent Puerto Rican dishes on his menu. Chef Erick is a truly humble and professional culinary artist. He lets his cooking do the talking, allowing his ingredients and timely combinations to showcase his superb culinary skills. From our conversation, I learned that he genuinely cares about the quality of his ingredients. While we talked about his experiences cooking for all kinds of tables in the Bay Area, from VIPs and celebrities to daily blue-collar San Franciscans seeking standout meals, Chef Erick answered at least five phone calls. He diligently coordinated with his local suppliers to ensure he, and in turn his customers, would have access to nothing but the best ingredients during the upcoming weekend rush. Most Puerto Ricans, including those adopted (see Chef Anthony Bourdain's memoirs), know a Puerto Rican restaurant is truly judged by the quality and flavor of its Pernil. This slow-roasted pork shoulder or leg is marinated in a robust herb paste. Many Puerto Rican families guard their herb paste recipes as closely as The Coca-Cola Company guards its Coca-Cola recipe. Pernil is the centerpiece of holiday feasts and family celebrations. That's why I chose this menu to celebrate meeting Chef Erick. Without hesitation, he prepared for me--someone born and raised in Puerto Rico--his masterfully concocted pernil with arroz con gandules and a side of maduros fritos. I have to say, this was the best Puerto Rican food I have tasted in all of California, from Santa Rosa to San Diego. I have visited all the restaurants in the Bay Area: El Coqui, both Sol Foods locations, Parada 22, and Lola's Lounge in Sacramento. I must say that the soup and entree were both deliciously satisfying. The scoop of vanilla ice cream served at the end was a nice ending to the meal. As far as a beverage, I got the Nitty's Cider. It was a decent hard cider drink to enjoy. The server during my dining experience was Yolanda. I was appreciative of her hospitality, as it was beyond amiable and attentive. The service totally enhanced my visit. The restaurant had a lovely, inviting ambiance. It was a colorful, vibrant atmosphere met with amazing Spanish music playing. Overall, the entire experience was extremely positive from the food to the service. I highly recommend stopping by.

Food was delicious once we finally got it. To be clear we ordered a couple of salads. Received them…read morein a reasonable amount of time. Very tasty. 45 minutes later we ask a busboy to check on our food. Our waiter was nowhere to be seen during this entire time. He never checked on us. After asking literally several minutes later our waiter appears and says two minutes for your food to get here. No apologies no offer to provide bread or something to help just two minutes. Well let's just say it wasn't two minutes. Many more minutes one of our dishes arrives. One of us tells him the service has been very slow and he walks off in a huff. Our other three dishes arrive in a couple more minutes. Only reason for two stars is the food is tasty. Super disappointed the Octopus and scallop dishes are super small. Two scallops and the skimpy octopus pieces were very disappointing for the prices. But they were good flavors. We can appreciate things happen they were busy when we arrived but the restaurant cleared out and it is obvious our meals were forgotten. To make zero attempt to say anything or apologize or offer anything is not professional. It appeared to us the waiter just does not care. He sent another very nice waitress to check on us after we were done and he disappeared once again. Will not ever be back!
