I first heard about The Library from a Yelp event (Thanks Jen!) So I was somewhat familiar with the ambience. We came on a summer evening for pizza and drinks. Service was stellar! I took the time to read the instructions to order at the bar. One of the employees say me and helped us out letting us know it was opening seating. It's a very relaxed environment. It actually wasn't super hot inside. They have multiple large ceiling fans. There's some old classic boardgames on a shelf by the window. We ordered the Hawaiian pizza. It came out pretty quickly! We also ordered a margarita. There's self-serve water on the right side of the bar. The pizza was tasty! Being a brick oven pizza there were some sections that were a little charred for my taste. We had a good time! I can see myself coming back later maybe having a drink and some snacks on the patio with my dog. read more

The food on the other hand, is a massive let down, seriously probably one of the biggest let downs we've had from a restaurant in a while. For the prices we expected a bit of a higher end bistro quality, not even close. We didn't try the pizza, I'm sure that's fine. We got the burger, tri-tip salad and the beer cheese pretzel--none of it was good, at all. The pretzel tasted like wonder bread, was stale and lukewarm. The tri-tip was served cold and over cooked, it looked more like sliced roast beef you get on a sandwich. I see a lot of potential from The Library, but the food portion of the business needs a massive overhaul. The only reason I am giving them 3 stars is their service, accommodating attitudes and the building is super cool. read more

Super cute place that's very laid back. Perfect for grabbing drinks with friends or for happy hour. They have indoor and outdoor seating which both at nice, just depends on your vibe. Severe greeted when we first walked into the outdoor seating area but to order we had to order inside at the bar. Not sure if this is standard or because they had an event going on, either way we didn't mind. The pizzas are yummy (we got the pepperoni and the Hawaiian). The food came out fast and was still hot which is a major plus. The paper plane drinks were average. After we got our food nobody came to check in on us, but maybe since it's a very laid back establishment and you order at the bar, maybe that's how things are done. First off, I really don't leave reviews, even when a restaurant is bad, but this place was beyond disappointing. We ordered a double burger, and it ended up costing over $20. For that price, I expected something substantial, but it was one of the smallest burgers I've ever had. To make matters worse, it was completely flavorless. It also took about 30-40 minutes to arrive because, according to the staff, they had lost our order. Then came the wings: six wings for $20. Again, they were some of the smallest wings I've ever seen, with one piece being practically nothing but bone. Absolutely ridiculous for the price. Those also took around 20 minutes to come out. The tri-tip salad was okay--not bad, but nothing special and definitely not worth what they charge. The service was probably the biggest issue. At one point, I asked a cook outside if we could get some napkins. He looked at us and said, "Looks like we're out down here," shrugged, and walked away. I understand he wasn't a server, but I worked as a line cook for years, and if a customer asked me for something, I would at least make an effort to help. The drinks were okay, but again, not worth the price. For what they charge, I'd rather go to Napa and get a genuinely good cocktail with much better service. We even ended up befriending another customer who was equally disappointed. They warned us that they had previously been charged for extra items they didn't order, which was concerning considering our experience. We were told the restaurant was busy, although it honestly didn't appear that way to us. After reading some of the other reviews, though, it seems like the long wait times, poor service, and questionable value may be pretty typical here. Overall, the food was overpriced and underwhelming, the portions were extremely small, and the service left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. read more

Wow! This place is true to its name...it does look like a Public Library, a prestigious-looking one at that! The architecture is fascinating! Whoever owns this place is so awesome to have preserved it. The place feels cozy inside, it has a lot of seating, including a set of couch on both sides of the restaurant. The books are real!!! You gotta see where the restroom is...the way to it is like a mini library shelves maze (I know it's a lot of words...but it's the best way to describe it). The crew is nice and pleasant. They bake their pizzas in an outdoor stone oven. We got the Pepperoni with hot honey sauce. The pizza is delicious! We will definitely be back and try the other ones. read more

The Library Bar was such a cool experience. I absolutely love books, so this place was perfect for me. The atmosphere was cozy, unique, and full of character. I ordered a Midori Sour, husband has a michelada no alcohol and it was refreshing and well made. Service was good, and while the food was o yummy they are on the smaller side though, so if you're hungry, I recommend ordering one for yourself. Discovered this place while looking for a brunch spot. They do not do brunch, as they open at 3pm, but they are connected with Journey next door, if you want to sit outside on the Library's beautiful patio. We ended up going back to the Library for cocktails after a Davis event in Vacaville. The bar was a little slow getting our drinks out. We didn't order any food, but what I saw at the next table looked incredible. The Library totally gives off Harry Potter vibes, and was an awesome place to hang out and eat and drink! The Victorian style 2-story house was just beautiful, with all of the dark wood furniture, books galore, and a piano in the corner. They also have live musicians perform on certain nights. The restrooms are downstairs (also elevator access if you want to avoid climbing up and down the steep stairwell). Highly recommend checking this place out...see what I did there for those of you old enough to remember physically checking books out from the library! read more

The Library was actually a great break away from the typical bar/restaurant scene. It's very intimate, close, and warming the moment you walk in and seeing all the amazing collection of books throughout the restaurant was something that sat very well in my soul. The collection of books was donated from a UC Berkeley professor after he passed and I must admit, a nice collection at that. There are seats, sofas, and tables scattered throughout the area and a nice sized piano in a corner. I was thrilled to see little knickknacks all throughout the bar location. I asked the bartender about some little toys that were hidden on top of some of the shelves and he said that when kids forget their toys, they hide them around the area. So if your kids end of missing your toy there, they'll be sure to have it somewhere. To the food. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and the wood oven mac and cheese. I was in the area to watch a Muay Thai fight at the Journey Downtown Theater. We were hungry after the fights, so we decided to go here for dinner since it's right next door. The place looks like a small, old library turned into a restaurant. It's really cute. There was a live band playing in the corner too, which wasn't too loud. They had great sound balance, and they played really well too. It made the time there very pleasant. We were greeted by the staff behind the counter, and one of them gave us the low down. "Take a menu, have a seat, come back to the counter when you're ready to order. By the way, there's no shrimp tonight." Well good thing I didn't want shrimp. Haha. We decided on the Italian Heaven Pesto Pizza and a glass of their Conundrum red blend. They offered a taste since we couldn't decide which wine to get. It went very well with the pizza. The pizza was very rich in flavor and had a nice, crispy thin crust. So good! We saw a basket with Jenga pieces so we decided to play a game while waiting for our dinner. That was fun! Yes it's a former library, which really adds to the appeal. The building is very open and has a lower level where you can read books! The restaurant is just cool. From the seating to the bookshelves to the bar. It's welcoming and relaxing. The food was yummy! This was the first time I've had "hot honey" and adding it to a pepperoni pizza was delicious! They have bar seating, but I am unsure if due to the concert they said you could not sit and order, you had to wait in the long line to order. The food is okay and it is cute in here but the service is awful. You have to order at the counter and pay there, the line for that took about 20 minutes to get to the front. We ordered around 7pm. They gave me my 2 glasses of wine plus the table number and a stack of plates to carry by myself back to the table. Waited over 45 minutes for the first part of our order to come out and it wasn't what I ordered. Waited another 20 minutes before the correct pizza came out. Let them know we were still waiting on the brie and fig and they said it would be a few more minutes. Another 10 minutes go past and they bring out a salad we didnt order. I let them know this isnt what we ordered and they took it back. After another 15 minutes I went to the counter to ask for a refund for the remaining food and it came out just then so I asked them to just box it up. I had the cocktail flight recently, first time coming here. It wasn't super busy but took longer than expected to get our order in. For $30 got to sample four different cocktails and enjoy the patio. I can't recall the flight exactly, and it's seasonal. Two of the cocktails both had sage, which made them too similar in my opinion. I expected 4 cocktails that would be very different. I gave three stars because the hot toddy (?) with cream was just an odd choice to have on the menu in warm weather and was not enjoyable to sip. Felt that that should have been cycled out by this point of the year. Overall, I wish I had chosen one cocktail I knew I would really like, but the flight is decent value. Perhaps I will scrutinize the flight menu a bit more, though, before I would order it again. There's live music sometimes, so I'd like to plan to return when there's music! Overall a great addition to downtown VV and the "library" theme inside is VERY fun. read more

If you want an example of why Vacaville is spinning its wheels trying to develop a great downtown nightlife you can start here for example 1A: I quote Esquire's New Rules: "If you get even the slightest sense that the bartender feels he is doing you a favor by mixing you a drink, you are in the wrong bar." Using the above criteria, at the Library you are definitely at the wrong bar. Worst part is the bartender and staff. Literally seemed to care less about us as customers. From other reviews this seems to be a pattern. Aloof service, limited hours, drinks on the menu that are not available... We want to support a robust Vacaville downtown, but hard to do it here.
