Great hot pot spot with fresh ingredients, rich broths, and fast, friendly service and clean space.

Growing up in Quincy, this has been my go to spot since middle school. The menu has expanded quite a bit since its opening but my favorite and go to is still their Tom Yum noodle soup. Though not a Thai restaurant, their Tom Yum noodle soup is just the best. They let you choose the type of noodle you want which is really nice if you want to customize and have a preference for noodles. Other favorites I recommend from the menu are the fried oysters and the green tea smoothie. Wish I could recommend more since it's such a big menu but I keep sticking to the same things so I can't personally speak to them. Others have tried the rice dishes etc and liked them a lot as well so I really don't think you can go wrong. read more

It's been a few years since I was at Fairy Cafe. The ramen soups were always top notch so with a craving for stir fry, I ordered. I should've stuck to the ramen soups. I started with chicken wings assuming they'd be actual chicken wings in line with say, Chinese restaurants. Instead, I got the cheap breaded, seemingly frozen, garbage sold at a dime a dozen pizza/sub places. They are low quality nonsense...and $11. Hilarious. I also got the rib eye beef and enoki ramen noodles. Listen, there is roughly 5lbs of it. 3 adults can share it. But Quincy has endless options for authentic Asian food and that's what we want--quality over quantity, Asian food with fresh, quality ingredients. See the pictures. It is a mound of overcooked mush with extremely/borderline inedible fatty meat and equally mushy enoki mushrooms hidden here and there. When I know for a fact that I could cook a stir fry ramen that is ten times better than what I just paid $20 for, there is zero reason to return to your restaurant, and I won't. read more

Fairy cafe is a local establishment and an underrated one. They recently updated their ayce hotpot menu and I went to lunch since it was a good deal. I got sat right away and after i put in my order the food came pretty quickly. Everything was standard, nothing totally delicious but nothing terrible at all. The service was great, all the staff was attentive. One thing I wish they had was a sauce bar (i went during lunch so not sure if they have it for dinner). They are usually known for their ramen and other dishes which I have gotten before and was delicious! I definitely would come back here but hoping they add a sauce bar soon! read more

Nice homey spot with sweet staff! They offer AYCE hotpot for a reasonable price and have their full dinner menu as well! Place does get packed during dinner hours. That night we decided on curry pork, fried calamari, pan fried chicken with black pepper sauce and Tom yum seafood noodle with ramen! We also got different smoothies including a mystery flavor (or surprise me flavor from the owner). The portions here are always large, plenty of sauce no stinginess here. The chicken was moist, soak up the black pepper sauce with some white rice. Feels like a home meal! The curry is great because so many places use premade bagged curry portions and charge for extra bag being open. Here it's made in house and tasty! The Tom yum soup has depth to the flavor and it was not spicy for anyone whom may be wondering! I cannot overstate how amazing the food is but the service is always what shines through (if even possible as the food speaks for itself) The owner Joy and Carmen have been wonderful to us throughout the years and have treated us like long-awaited family since we first walked in for a meal. They are a crowd favorite amongst any family or friends that we have brought to meet them. Now it's been at least two years and Fairy Cafe has become a part of our monthly routine because we cannot stay away. They serve fresh veggies along with their delicious hotpot, amazing crab Rangoons, and they do so with warm hospitality at an affordable price. This place has an excellent service. Server was very kind and polite. I ordered their Shanghai soup dumpling and stir fry noodle. Big mistake on my part. I think this place has better hotpot and rice plate options. Soup dumpling was tasty and the juice inside these dumplings are rich. Stir fry noodle are okay but came with big portion. Free street parking on neighboring streets. Overall, the service was good and the food was "not bad". Pan fried dumplings were juicy and lightly fried with a good meat to skin ratio. Sticky rice texture was good but lacked flavor. Mala lamb noodles were too oily and heavy on the seasoning. The tofu skin was nice though Iced Hong Kong milk tea was nice to sip on with the spicy dish. Beef ramen stir fry with mushroom was really, really bad. Noodles were stuck together, beef was barely recognizable. There was fat clinging to every piece of meat, and the mushrooms were stringy mush. Will not be coming back. read more

fairy café is like warm, comfort, food. It won't knock your socks off, but it won't break your wallet either. we've been here multiple times for lunch and dinner. If we're not craving anything in particular, then we usually end up here if we are in the area. Update (December 2023) They do have AYCE hot pot buffet. The last time I got it, there was a bug in my veggies and needless to say, I didn't have an appetite afterwards and never ordered the AYCE hot pot again. Each visit, I tried a different soup and after 10 visits, my favorite is the Japanese style pork ramen AND the salt and pepper chicken wings. Don't forget the milk tea! Small local shop, always busy so you know it's popular. Would recommend checking out if you're in the area. read more

Great service, great soups. Took a couple of dishes to go. Everything was quick but tasted fresh. The mango and one other smoothie is made fresh and you can ask them not to add sugar. It was nice to have the option. Parking wasn't too difficult. 2 hour street spots around and a 1 hour lot for the bakery across the street. The hotpot buffet is such a great bang for your buck. Working from home I've showed up so many times during lunch and have always left satisfied. It's a neighborhood gem and a lowkey spot. Staff are friendly and service is always quick. Lots of parking along the neighborhood streets. read more

not sure why this place is rated so high (i've also heard really good things!) maybe we did not order the right things? we arrived at 6:30pm and by 7 the place was full. the service was quick and friendly! we had a party of 7. i was surprised they let us do half AYCE hotpot and half order off regular menu. i can't comment on hotpot but the regular food was okay. ouu i did really like their salt and pepper wings. think wingding dinner wings but with really good seasoning. their seafood udon and beef with enoki mushrooms looked like their hotpot leftovers and they poured it over udon/rice (not bad and not particularly amazing either) i was really intrigued by their bbq taro. it was fine but not life changing crab rangoons were crispy and creamy. i didn't mind the soup dumplings. but i can see people thinking the wrap is thicker than usual and not a lot of soup inside. their watermelon shake was yummy! milk tea was fine -- a tad sweeter than i usually like it. read more

The service was amazing from entering to exiting. Kind and funny servers who's sense of humor can deal with my talkative father. My food was really good and so was the rest of my family's. We ordered from the regular menu. I also really enjoyed the Thai Tea drink. My dad loved the hotpot and kept himself entertained cooking his food and constantly asking the servers about how long each food takes. 10/10 would recommend if you're in the area. read more

Big fun Cafe had a line and didn't feel like waiting so decided to go here. As soon as I saw the menu, I regretted it. I feel like this is the equivalent of an Asian diner, it is all over the place as far as cuisine type and really didn't know what to order. They seem to be run by Cantonese people but none of the dishes seem Cantonese and made me wonder if I got the non-Chinese menu. Got their ribeye with enoki on rice and a stir fry pork udon. Portions were unexpectedly big especially for the price. Downside was both were underwhelming and used hotpot meat as the protein which is perplexing. I had high expectations going into this place due to the glowing reviews, but I was sadly let down. I went here with some friends on a Saturday evening around 6:00pm. We didn't make a reservation so they told us that we had to finish by 7:00pm before people reservations came in. It's a small restaurant with only a few tables and the interior is pretty plain. For appetizers we got the Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings (small and disappointing) and Scallion Pancake (dry and not crispy). For entrees we got theChinese Sausage Fried Rice and Pork Katsu Ramen. Everything was average at best. The Chinese sausage probably only had half of a sausage that was cut into very small pieces and it didn't have the aromatic smell that fried rice should have. The ramen was very generic and I don't see any difference between here and any other ramen place. Overall, I probably won't be back. read more

A small restaurant tucked away in the middle of what seems like an entire blocked owned and operated by Asian businesses. The staff is warm, helpful, and attentive. Food Salt and pepper chicken- crispy, juicy, packed with flavor you want. There is not a single thing wrong with this dish. I only wish there was more! Scallion pancakes- These are probably the crispiest version I've had. I do prefer a little more chew, but that's just a personal preference. You can't really mess up scallion pancakes can you? Chinese sausage fried rice- yes please! Authentic Chinese fried rice is very much different from the Americanized fried rice we're used to. This rice is fragrant and stocked full of delicious chopped eggs, scallions, cabbage, and corn. The slightly sweet Chinese sausage brings a great balance to the dish. This is everything fried rice should be. Stir fried ramen - Are you kidding me? Where has this been all my life. I'm almost ashamed that it took me this long to find stir fried ramen. This is the kind of thing that causes you to rethink your life... And among all the Chinese regional specialties, Cantonese definitely stands superior. I can't remember the last time I had good Chinese food this good. Can we talk about this price point?! Chinese food in general is not pricey, but this is insanely affordable. I know that my expectations of restaurants are some times unfair, but I found this restaurant because I was looking for something that included noodles, dim sum, and other unique items. I found it on a day where I was burning time before picking up my husband from the airport, so I was not in a rush, but I was definitely looking for something to wow my palate. Unfortunately this was not it. I didn't really know what I was getting into when I found them on Yelp but I decided to give them a try. It was hard to get parked because the street is only one way so to make a few circles before I was able to find a parking spot. I was concerned because of the size of the parking spots and I was worried that I might get boxed in and not be able to get out. Once parked I went inside and I was met with the loud sounds of K-pop on the television, and a birthday party in the left side of the restaurant expansion area. I was seated quickly, and started to look over the menu. I noticed right away that the menu was vague in some of its items including "Japanese dumpling" and "Japanese ramen." I ordered the Japanese ramen which looked like a tonkatsu broth with char siu, The sesame balls, the shrimp shumai, and the soup dumplings. I also ordered a Japanese beer just for the heck of it. The first thing that came out was the ramen. Unfortunately the soup was virtually flavorless, very boring, and not even salty really. It did have quite a few servings of pork on top and a lot of crisp green onions but those were the only redeeming factors. The shumai were fried, weirdly, and topped with a teriyaki sauce which I thought was very unusual. The soup dumplings, which were one of my favorite dim sum items on the planet, were unfortunately a problem to begin with. I noticed that multiple dumplings had holes in the sides, which defeats the purpose of having a soup dumpling, because the soup is not in the dumpling. The only saving grace was the sesame ball. My favorite dim sum of all time is a black sesame steamed mochi, and this was very close. It was a black sesame interior which was magma hot and very creamy, covered in a chewy mochi exterior and rolled in what looked like soybean powder but I was told is a mixture of crushed nuts. Regardless it was the only thing that was worth eating and I scarfed them down immediately. Prices are very good, service is fast, the restaurant is relatively clean, with free parking on the street if you could find it. Other than that, this was a very lackluster experience, not at all what I was expecting, or helping for. One star for the fast service with great prices, and one star for the unexpected delight of encountering black sesame dim sum. read more

The curry with pork chop over rice was delicious! It was so cheap and worth the money. The curry is different from a Japanese curry but it's also on the milder side. They did such a good job frying the pork cutlets and making the curry sauce so flavorful. The soup dumplings were good even though quite a few of them broke. First time dining out with my parent since the pandemic. I wanted to try Thai C but mala hot pot is not my dad's choice of food. We ended up coming here since this is one of our usual places to come for dinner before a pandemic. We did ayce which cost $28.95 per person not including soup base. Every restaurant is getting expensive, can't really complain. My favorite soup base is rib and tom yum. The quality of the ingredients for the hot pot is good as it is considered home style. I still haven't had Fairy Cafe's hot pot yet. But I did veer away from their ramen on this trip, and headed straight to the Pork Cutlet with Curry over Rice $8.95 as recommended by Wendy D. I'm glad I had - it was good. A thick breaded pork cutlet, plenty of curry, plenty of rice. The veggies were still firm and vibrant - I only wish there was more of them. Also, maybe I'll see if I can get them to set the cutlet on the plate last, so it retains some of the crispness in the breading. My friend likes the salt & pepper wings here, but I tried one of their Fried Chicken Wings $6.95 for 6 pieces, and found it hot and juicy. Good fry job. Drinks went past by the armload. I started going to Fairy Cafe many years ago, before they became a popular spot in Quincy!! At that time their size is half of the size right now, and we came every week for the ramen, the fried chicken wings and the fried octopus!!! The owners are very nice!! Solid AYCE hotpot buffet, which had a good selection of broths and side options to choose from. The hotpot itself feels very home-style - for my table of four we shared and cooked in one pot for the table (which is unlike a lot of new/modern hotpot restaurants where each person cooks in their own individual pot). It felt reminiscent of my family dinners growing up, where even a group of 8 would share one hotpot together! Loved the cozy, homey atmosphere. My friends and I somehow managed to eat and chat here for nearly THREE hours. We didn't even notice the time fly by! The staff was very patient and helpful, periodically coming by to check in on us and never rushing us throughout the meal. Great spot overall. If you're looking for cheap and delicious Chinese food, this is the place for you. Biggest downside is that you might have to wait for a table, especially if everyone in town is tryna get hotpot. The service lady told us it would be a 20 minute wait for 7 people, but it was more like 40 minutes. The food here is so cheap! Every dish is basically under $10 and depending on the dish, is pretty filling. We split 7 dishes among 7 people and paid ~$10 per person after tax and tip, although expect to pay a bit more than that if you want to be more full. The soup dumplings were actually pretty good and you get 6 pieces for less than $5. The curry pork cutlet over rice was really good, I would recommend this dish if you're only going to get one. The salt and pepper chicken was very good too, well seasoned and crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. The sticky rice and the kimchi fried rice were alright. read more

This place was a last minute decision but so worth it and absolutely blown away. Service was nice and food was delicious. Place seems small and out of business but do not underestimate this place! The udon noodle soul was flavorful. The udon was bouncy and chewy and the perfect texture for the savory soup. Chicken cutlet was tasty and went well with the flavor of the noodle soup. Shrimp tempura was light and crisp. Takoyaki came out hot and full of flavor. The mayo sauce paired well with the doughey-ness and seafood aroma from the octopus in the takoyaki. A quiet, yet amazing restaurant full of great food for good prices. Overall, great experience and definitely a hidden gem in Quincy. Please give this place a try if you are ever nearby in Wollaston. We made a stop on the way to the cape. Food was incredible! Melt-in-your-mouth dumplings, legit noodle bowls that could be customized to your liking, and fried rice that even my picky toddler loved(we got the shrimp fried rice). We also loved the salt and pepper wings .they were spicy so took out the meat for the kiddos and they loved them too. Can't wait to return on our way back from cape ! read more
