Fried chicken leg & omelet rice
    Adina B.

Such a fun vibe - like a Hong Kong kitch vibe. Friendly quick service. Som many things we wanted to try so we'll definitely have to go back. But this time around we did the char suI honey pork which was sweet and succulent. I love chow fun and this one didn't disappoint. The fried chicken leg and omelet over rice was where they really shine. The chicken was crispy, and super juicy and flavorful, the omelet was soft and creamy and went great with the rice. And the French toast squares were soft and sweet (and there were a lot so we brought some home!). Can't wait to go back and try more.

I'm duke here! Been a regular here for quite some time. Quick food, nothing fancy, very good price and down to earth. Like the Hainan Chicken rice dish a lot.

This! Been waiting for a HK-style cafe in Boston in ages. There have been half-@$$ed attempts in the past, but I wanted a more dedicated 茶餐廳 in these parts. Apparently, people agreed, as it was constantly swamped when Bayao opened. I came here a few times early on, when they were still getting their act together and did not offer take out. along with not serving breakfast. The restaurant seemed to have gotten some things straightened out. The offerings themselves are not bad, but it's a mixed bag. The fried chicken with egg omelet rice is popular and for good reason. The chicken is really crispy and the egg has a balanced texture to it (not too runny but not rock hard). I like their pineapple bun, with a crispy and sweet topping and a soft bun interior. Their 乾炒牛河 (beef chow fun) is decent, with good wok flavor and a generous portion. Their sizzling steak is a fun dish, but their portion (rice, veg, steak) is rather small. The milk tea is passable, though I've had more robust tea elsewhere (notably, LA and HK). Their curry beef brisket is not my favorite and is totally outclassed by Saigon Corner down-the-street. It's too sweet and there's not much curry flavor to it. Plus, it doesn't have any tendon, which doesn't impress me. The French toast here is thin, limp, and lackluster. It's basically toasted bread with some peanut butter on top. While the restaurant has a variety of red bean drinks, they don't have the genuine red bean ice (紅豆冰). That's like a pizza shop not having pepperoni as a topping. Service is decent and the wait staff can speak some English, if you need it. I may give breakfast a shot.

Friendly staff & orders come out quickly. The food is delicious and affordable and reminds me of Hong Kong style cuisine, like Authentic milk tea with condensed milk, light & fluffy French toast with white sweet syrup. Definitely my go to place when I am in Quincy for lunch! Love the decor dining tables embedded either 4 play mahjong sets with played hands.

My friend and I have been chasing that perfect fried chicken pineapple bun sandwich ever since Double Chin closed. (Yes, we're still crying about Double Chin. We loved that place.) We tried Rubato Cafe and then found ourselves at Bayao, just a stone's throw away, and WOW, what a different vibe. Walk into Bayao and you're hit with bright colors, neon signs, and a decor that feels like a love letter to Hong Kong, whether you grew up there or not. The tables even look like mahjong sets, and they've got posters from classic Hong Kong films. By the time I saw In the Mood for Love (where my fellow Wong Kar-wai fans at?) in the bathroom area, I knew these folks understood ambiance. But let's talk food. I had the chicken tomato macaroni soup, a comforting, flavorful bowl of nostalgia. The chicken was freshly fried and super tasty, exactly why Hong Kong cha chaan teng comfort food is a thing. My friend got the chicken pineapple bun, and while the bun wasn't a perfect replica of the classic (or what we'd prefer, a genuine bo lo bao), I'm now thinking maybe a sturdier bun makes sense to hold it all together. (Maybe I shouldn't have been so upset at Rubato in my last review. HMM.) It tasted good, and I appreciated the cute "Time to Bread" toothpick flag. The Ovaltine French toast was a showstopper. It looks unassuming, then you cut in and BOOM! Chocolate lava oozes out. It's sweet, but hey, dessert is dessert. Prices were reasonable, around $11 for the pineapple bun, $13 for my hearty soup. In the end, Bayao didn't just feed us; it took us on a trip. I'd happily return for both the flavors and those Hong Kong feels.

My fiancée brought me and her parents over for an early Father's Day breakfast. We made sure to get there right when they opened to avoid any crowds soon to come because of the popularity of this store. We liked the food, it's a little pricier than that of your American breakfast but keep in mind that this is what a simple breakfast in Hong Kong would be like. Just like your bacon, eggs and pancakes you could make at home, it's the same here with the dishes that they provide. I do say that I personally I loved the way they made their scrambled eggs, and pairing it with the nice buttery toast was delicious. It's a nice side dish to pair with items like the ham macaroni soup and beef satay noodles. They're simple dishes but taste really good! I would love to come back during lunchtime to experience their other dishes

Even with a line out the door every day, this spot completely lives up to the hype. They serve traditional Hong Kong comfort food alongside authentic milk tea and Yuen Yeung (coffee and milk tea blend) that is perfectly sweetened without needing any adjustments. The chicken and omelette rice plate features generous portions of perfectly seasoned, incredibly crispy, and juicy chicken that isn't greasy at all. The Hong Kong peanut butter French toast is another standout item to order. The decor fully rounds out the theme, creating a great atmosphere that is both elder and youngster approved. Staff is quick and efficient. Definitely get their early and be prepared to wait!

So value and so good. Apparently the prices have gone up, but it's still super cheap. Only drawback is the food can get a little greasy, so be prepared. Chow Foon (8/10): Extremely solid, with plenty of wok hei. I always judge chow foon off of the beef, and they did pretty well here. It was tender and flavorful. Noodles had perfect texture. Chicken Quarter Appetizer (7/10): This was pretty good fried chicken. Very crispy. I think Cafe Mami in Porter Square still does it better. It was a bit too greasy for me. It's VERY value though ($9.99 for a massive piece) Bolo Bao w/ Silky Scramble Egg (8.5/10): I haven't had this combo before, but it was very good. Their silky scramble egg dishes are a must-try. Cream-Filled French Toast topped with Ovaltine (9/10): Delicious. They somehow made cheese work with this. I applaud it. Baked Pork Chop w/ Portuguese Sauce (8.5/10): Portuguese sauce was delicious. Pork was tender and flavorful. Cheese on top was delicious. We waited about 90 minutes for Saturday lunch. I would highly recommend not coming with more than 4 people. If you do, you should split your party. They only have one large table. Service was very good, though. Food came out super fast.

Bayou Cafe is one of my favorite Hong Kong style restaurant in Massachusetts. The restaurant has very limited parking spaces in front of the restaurant, maybe enough for three or four cars? Be prepared to find street parking and even do a little walking. As for wait time, I have been here twice during lunch and on the second trip I did have to wait 20 minutes for a table. The restaurant was packed and there were plenty of takeout orders throughout the meal when I dined in both time. Clearly, a local favorite. You can try the trio appetizer that lets you try the fish ball, fish dumpling, and rice rolls. It's the right amount to share with three people and each person gets a taste of the three appetizers. My favorite had to be the rice balls, followed by the fish dumplings, and last the rice noodles. Of the toasts I have tried so far, I preferred the sweet toast dessert filled with milk as opposed to the truffle egg toast. For entree, I have to say, the fried chicken with the omelet egg is a must try. Next would be the Hainese chicken. Then third with be the sorrowful rice, which is two fried eggs and bbq pork. Everything was so flavorful. You have to try the milk teas. If you prefer sweet, go for the ice bear milk tea, but if you like a bit bitter, go for the hot version and add sugar to your preference. Overall, food came at a fast pace, service attentive. There is plenty of seating end even seating in a private dining space for a larger group of 10 or so in the back of the restaurant. I would definitely be coming back. See my pictures.

Had a satisfying meal. We ordered the beef curry, baked pork chop rice, tea, and bolo bao. The beef curry had a nice coconut flavor and was really tasty. We always enjoy the tea and bolo bao whenever we visit. The baked pork chop rice was another favorite and hit the spot. The only dish we didn't care for was the bologna, which was a bit too cheesy for our taste. Overall, it was a great meal and a place we'd happily return to.

Food is tasty and at a great price! I'd say the must get is the fried chicken with rice, but honestly everything I've tried has been tasty and at a good price. I've taken a handful of my friends/family here and everyone has loved it! I would recommend: - as mentioned above, the fried chicken and rice - anything with egg because they really do a good job cooking the eggs - bolo butter bun (though I wouldn't recommend eating the entire slab of butter, maybe 1/4-1/2) They also get bonus points for great branding and a fun interior. Love the mahjong tables and bright colors!

Nice fast casual HK-style food spot! Fun vibes and bright colors in the cafe, and there were so many fun food items. We ordered the curry fish balls and shrimp shumai, and sizzling pork plate that came with rice and a free drink (ordered yuzu tea). The appetizers were a bit small, but the main was a great deal. The chicken looks great to try next time. Staff were all friendly as well, and we had a very positive experience.

Bayao Cafe nails the Hong Kong-style café experience with precision and comfort. The rice roll with mixed sauce set the tone--silky, delicate texture with that nostalgic sweet-savory balance that hits immediately. Beef chow fun came through with tender beef and clean flavor. The shrimp with silky scrambled eggs over rice was textbook comfort food. Soft, custardy eggs, plump shrimp, and perfectly cooked rice soaking up every bite. Both the ham macaroni soup and braised beef brisket flat noodle soup delivered depth and warmth--the brisket especially was rich, tender, and slow-braised the way it should be. The fried chicken leg quarter was crisp outside, juicy inside, and surprisingly well-seasoned. A must order! Drinks were solid and refreshing: iced Bear milk tea was smooth and balanced, while the Ice Bear lemon tea was bright and clean, cutting through the richness of the meal perfectly. Bayao doesn't chase trends--it executes classics consistently and well. If you know, you know. And if you don't, this is where you start.

I got shrimp steam rolls, Chinese donuts, ovaltine French toast, ice coffee, hot soy milk and cold soy milk. The fried chicken bolo was interesting. She told me it was the most popular item on the menu. I personally don't understand why. It is fried chicken with a slaw and on a bun with some sort of crumble on top. I was not impressed. The Chinese donuts were cold and old tasting; I was super disappointed. The shrimp steam rolls were very delicious! The ovaltine French toast is sweet. It has ovaltine powder on it and it's covered with sweetened condensed milk. It is tasty, sweet and a bit messy to eat but I enjoyed it. Iced coffee was strong. Iced soy milk is preferred over hot soy milk but that is just personal preference and it was over 90 degrees outside. It is a small cafe with limited seating at the window. The menu is on the wall.
