The restaurant is relatively small and only have 17-20 seats. I ordered Chinese sausage and bacon clay pot rice and shrimp rice rolls with eggs. They have extra sauce ready for you on the table for both clay pot dish and rice rolls in case you need more sauce. The rice rolls are perfect. They aren't stingy with the shrimp and the claypot dish is also tasted like grandma's cooking. Service was awesome. Server was very welcoming and considerate. I will definitely return here in the future.

Then the female owner apparently realized the dish was handed to the wrong table, she took it back into the kitchen (as a deception, thinking we wouldn't realize it's the same dish, we saw her through the curtain, she was holding the same dish the whole time--she didn't know we were watching and rightfully suspicious of what she was sneakily doing), then brought it out right back to our table. We did not want to say anything. But it was disgusting, people do spit onto the dish when they talk over it during those five minutes, you know? We were too shy to cause a scene or destroy the long standing relationship. Further, we couldn't afford to let that $12 or so dish go to waste. So we tried eating it. Afterward, we felt so disgusted. And that was the last time we went to Big Fun Cafe. Two years or so ago. Even after learning of its new location in Brookline, we are just so disgusted by the memory of the incident described above -- so we never tried their Brookline location. Note to the owners: for future customers, such mistakes do happen, but please have some integrity and just discard/trash the contaminated dish -- or if you want to be so cheap, eat the contaminated dishes yourself. Don't be so stingy and deceptive so as to hand it to your presumed naive customers. That was extremely disgusting and even two years later, we're still disgusted by it.

Good. -- Chau Chow Style Clams: The big winner, with flavor galore from the chives and the tiny dried shrimp as well as tiny shreds of pork and the namesake ingredient. Hints of black bean sauce in a thinned-down broth. Great on its own and mixed with white rice. -- Chicken with Fried Garlic: Stellar as well, but a repeat item, so the greatness wasn't a surprise like the clams. Crispy, juicy, strongly flavored of marinade that stood out even with the garlic (mild, not bitter) and salt. Some light heat in there too. Elite and a perennial must-order dish. -- Beef Chow Foon: First time offered a choice between wet and dry. I remember the last time it was soaked with sauce (delicious though), so went dry this time and enjoyed it more. Very soft noodles, beef very tender, and much more of it than you would expect for the fairly reasonable price. The bill adds up quickly but I contend there's good value-- unless you need good service to have good value. After three visits, I can say the food is mostly spectacular, but the servers are anything but attentive. It's almost as if they go out of their way to ignore your table even when it's literally on their way. I'm willing to make the tradeoff but not willing to pretend there isn't one.

We walked in and it was the most casual, laid-back establishment. The green color scheme and plants gave it a more earthy vibe, which I absolutely loved. Since we didn't necessarily know what to order we decided to split the fried chicken bolo. When I tell you, I have not stopped thinking about that sandwich since I ate it, I'm not kidding. It was absolutely delicious. My husband, who was resistant to even going in the first place, kept telling everyone around town about it. The rice rolls were mild but fine, topped with enough cilantro and scallion to keep it interesting. The lava bun was hot, gooey, and did its job. (GOOD JOB, LAVA BUN!) The Ovaltine French toast? Eh, it aite. But here's the heartbreak: the chicken bolo bao. The chicken wasn't hot; it had that "sat around" feeling. And the bun? Just a dressed-up brioche, missing that true bo lo bao magic. A brioche bun with a crackly top is not a bo lo bao, my dudes. In short, everything was edible, but nothing made me want to come back. (It's not like watching like a hawk for an empty seat and swooping in the moment one opens up is any fun.) The chicken deserved better.
