    Clams in Black Bean Sauce
    Gary G.

Two visits to this authentic Chinese eatery specializing in seafood, conveniently located in the same shopping plaza as Kam Man. Large tables with white table cloths. No real atmosphere other than the fish tanks in back, but the food is all that matters, and it's been excellent. -- Clams with Black Bean Sauce: Much larger than what I've had at buffets and other authentic Chinese restaurants. Very tender and a perfect pairing with a dark sauce with assertive black bean flavor and a hint of heat. Slightly closer to soupy than clingy, but the shells held it all in nicely. Elite. -- Roasted Chicken with Fried Garlic: Crispy garlic crunchies (sometimes known as crunchy garlic crispies) literally covered the entire surface of a still-substantial half order. There was a pleasant saltiness to the garlic, which was fragrant and not overpowering. Underneath, the thick slices of bone-in chicken had crisp skins, good tenderness, and a marinade or brine that added another flavor dimension. Impossible to not devour the whole thing. Absolutely delicious in addition to being a textural triumph, and you don't need to be a garlic lover to enjoy this. So good we had it on both visits. Superb. -- Beef and Chinese Broccoli: Exquisitely tender beef shreds, and quantum levels more tender than your typical suburban joints. Bright green Chinese broccoli, still a bit firm but tender enough to cut. Potently dark oyster sauce had a different personality from the clams. Near-elite to elite. -- Shrimp and Lobster Sauce: Another brown sauce, also with black beans, but the soft crumbles of ground pork added enough to distinguish. A handful of perfectly cooked good-sized shrimp and a gigantic bowl of the sauce. No glop, not salty, not anything special, but simple and effective. Well above average. -- Pan Fried Flounder: A whole fish, wide but thin, served with a light and thin crunchy outer texture-- guessing the absolute lightest of breading. Very delicate, moist, mild flesh underneath, easy to peel from the bones, with lots of crunchy skin to go with it. Not much of it to go around, and while the flavor was pleasant, it didn't have the same oomph as some of the other dishes. Texturally perfect though. -- Beef with Mustard Green Chow Foon: A huge, towering plate of soft noodles, buried in tender beef chunks and long strips of pickled mustard greens that added some sourness to the equation. Lots of brown gravy to go with it, perhaps even too much, but, as with the other dishes, the flavors and textures worked brilliantly. Hearty, complex, and delicious. Near-elite to elite. -- Lobster with Ginger and Scallions: This dish comes in three sizes and is sold at market price. It's a little pricey, but you get a lot-- 65 for the small that fed three hearty eaters with some left over-- and the quality is really good. Cut just enough so that you get big pieces, and fairly easy to pluck the luscious meat out. If excellent and worth getting again. -- Spicy Salted Pork Chop: You taste the salt much more than the spice, but this well-stacked platter of breaded cutlets brought crispness, juiciness, and pleasant flavor in every piece. I think this would've been better with a dipping sauce of some sort, but solid as is. -- Deep Fried Spareribs with Minced Garlic and Butter: The lone disappointment, as what was delivered (breaded and pale) looked vastly different from the menu photo (unbreaded and colorful). Not bad by any means, as the meat was very juicy, but another one that could've benefitted from a contrasting sauce. -- Fried Noodles with Chinese Veggie & Beef: A starch with some supporting players, combining noodles that were soft in some parts and crunchy in others with very tender beef, perfectly cooked Chinese broccoli (the only vegetable), and a neutral brown sauce to give it just a slight boost. Satisfying. Service hasn't been a strong suit. Although the servers did a nice job explaining the menu items, the second visit's server was nowhere to be found for most of the meal. That won't affect the 5 stars or deter me from another visit, because the food is fantastic. Some of the dishes for next time are already known.

    Seafood in Taro Pot - $22.95 as 0f 2/2025

TLDR: Great food with great portions! Coming from Boston, I will always appreciate any establishment that has their own parking lot and this place is no exception. Items ordered as of 2/2025: - Spicy Salted Pork Chop - $18.95 - This was delicious. Perfectly cooked and crispy without a lot of breading. Would 100% recommend. - Spicy Salted Calamari - $15.95 - Great portions and flavor. Also comes with vegetables which is an awesome bonus! Would also order this again. - Seafood in Taro Pot - $22.95 - Hearty pot full of seafood and tofu. Broth inside is delicious. - Deep Fried Noodles with Beef and Vegetables - $15.95? - I couldn't find this on their website so I'm not 100% on the name or the price (There's a picture of it on the menu though). This is ENORMOUS. Great gravy sauce and tons of beef and vegetables. I would definitely order this again.

I can't even say enough how much I love this place. Been craving real Chinese food in the US forever and this one just hit right. Food was super tasty, you even get that little smoky wok smell so good. The moment I walked in, it felt like those old Chinese restaurants from when I was a kid. Nothing fancy, really simple inside, but it just has that vibe... like a charm. I'm definitely going back, no way I can resist

Surf clams with garlic and vermicelli
    Diane H.

Everything is so good at this restaurant, especially the seafood -very fresh. The scallop with garlic and vermicelli is good, steamed fish is good, lobster tower is good, and the sauté beef udon noodle is also super good. I also really enjoyed the Peapod stems and any of the tofu dishes. Sometimes they give you free dessert, such as coconut sago. Servers are very chill.

We came here specifically for the lobster tower as we wanted to try it. It was very tasty with lettuce and french fries. It was pricy, but great experience. The restaurant was fully packed and every table was taken. This was around 7pm on a Friday night. $98 for the lobster tower dish. Three of us ate it and completely finished the entire tower.

New menus. Food was spot on as usual. Biggest lobsters in the tank I've ever seen in my life.

South Garden is a great place to go for authentic Cantonese Chinese food! The last time I visited (before today!) was before they added the lobster towers onto the menu... so it's been a while! They're located in the Presidents Plaza, where you'll also find Kam Man Supermarket, Cloud Asian Fusion & Bar, and more. South Garden has been around for quite some time now and is always solid. Today, I visited for Lunar New Year Eve dinner and it didn't disappoint. Everything was great but the star of the show, for me, was definitely the 5 lb lobster tower! For $98, you get 5 lbs of lobster, which was good for the 9 of us to share. Every piece was a good piece. Only thing that I can think of that could make it better, is if it could've been salted egg yolk fried lobster. I'm pretty sure they'd be able to, but also not sure haha. I will forever love getting the roasted chicken with roasted garlic. Always have to order that whenever I eat at a Chinese restaurant. SO GOOD! The clams with vermicelli is also another fave of mine. Overall, had a great meal tonight at South Garden. The servers haven't changed at all! They're always nice and very quick service. Will for sure be back soon ;)

This place is right next to Kam Man supermarket and was packed when we went for dinner. Some dishes were kind of greasy. I loved the appetizer with the huge clams, don't remember what it was called but would come back just to order that. The shrimp was also very fresh. Would come back to try more things but definitely order the clams.

    Chicken Chow Fun

4.25/5. Flavor is authentic, but couldn't eat too much because the dishes were very oil driven (but that's the nature of the cuisine). Roasted chicken w/ minced fried garlic was very flavorful, good saltiness with a little umami. Peapod stems were done well, good texture, didn't taste old, flavor was on point. Chicken chow fun flavor was slightly lacking and chicken was a little dry but dish was otherwise carried by texture, being cooked to the perfect springiness and a very minimal, tasteful char (enough "wok hei" [鑊氣]). Chow mein had a lot of sauce for a medium amount of flavor, but it had a good balance of dry, crispy noodles to softer, saucy noodles. Tea was spectacular for no reason, perfect potency. Service was very fast and polite enough. Ambiance was classic Chinese restaurant, some older furniture with white table clothes, some well-loved teapots and plates, some fish tanks on display, would say it feels clean but clean enough (this is how we know it's authentic . Been a few times and overall good experience, would go back again.

    Soy Sauce Chicken
    Ju L.

The food was either a hit or a miss. I've never seen a chow fun so poorly made, which was clearly lacking the grease and flavor that makes it distinctively Cantonese chow fun. Because of that, a lot of the noodles and beef were burnt and when we brought it up, we were told that he guessed the chef made it like that today and walked away with no suggestion to change it or remake it. The soy sauce chicken was great, though...super juicy! This place was really lacking in the service department, though. My grandmother literally asked a reasonable question of whether the entrees came with white rice or not so that we could order some if they didn't. The waiter scoffed and said "of course we have white rice... what kind of Chinese restaurant has no white rice?" We probably had like 4 different waiters that stopped by our table and the others were okay or much better but that particular waiter having a snarky and condescending response really annoyed tf out of me. Even asking for the check was such a chore. Usually you go into these type of Cantonese restaurants expecting meh service, but that was completely uncalled for and the food wasn't even all that to justify this place at all.

Definitely a must visit for the lobster tower! We got a small which can feed 4 comfortably, 5 people maybe. It's market priced, so when we went, it was $98. Really a nice experience to eat various parts of the lobster and it's quite meaty! The flavor was AMAZING. Hard to describe, but a bit of a spice, salt and peppery, garlic-ky, and more. They deep fry it so it seems too. Also came for the dou Miao (pea pod stem) in crab sauce, and it's one of my go-to dishes. :) Will be coming back again!

It's been a crazy few days. Celebratory dinner at South Garden Quincy, food was fast and plenty! My little guy recieved a special award for his non profit efforts and dropping off 4000 pounds of food to our local pantry this weekend. We had the seafood tower (Asian style) it was a 9 pound lobster, crabs, and fries??????, fried tofu, beef and Chinese broccoli, beef and cilantro soup, seafood soup, chicken with fried garlic, egg tofu, Buddhist delight, sweet and sour beef, Mayo shrimp in taro pot, triple fried delight (pork, shrimp, calamari). Everything was really good! I especially loved the little sweet warm dessert at the end. Highly recommended!

    Lobster TOWER

I came here for one thing and one thing only. THE LOBSTER TOWER!!! The lobster tower is fried twin lobsters with fresh house made fries and veggies. It was a beauty to see! The lobster was full of meat and the claws and tails were just HUMONGEOUS. Literally the fattest lobster I've ever seen! Very flavorful and I liked that its fried so it absorbs the sauce in the crust and on the shell you can suck off the flavors. The chicken was also good too, chicken is something I must have at chinese resteraunts. The skin was nice thin and crispy and the chicken itself is juicy and silky. UGH so good!! Overall, you have to come here for the lobster tower. This place is known for it and I never seen anywhere else have this!

Ground Pork W.preserved Vegetables Clay Pot Rice梅菜肉餅煲仔飯: The English translation is already a bit misleading. This dish should be pork patty with preserved mustard greens, but what was served didn't match either component. First, this was not meicai梅菜(preserved mustard greens). Proper meicai should be dark brown and fibrous even after soaking, whereas this consisted of pale yellow granules, both in appearance and taste much closer to dongcai冬菜 (preserved Chinese cabbages). While dongcai can appear in some clay pot rice dishes, this was clearly not what it should be. Second, this was not a pork patty. The meat was simply loose minced pork scattered on top of the rice, without any mixing or shaping. As a result, it lacked the cohesion, tenderness, and springy texture that define a proper pork patty. There was even a slight sour note, which felt off. Third, the "claypot sauce" was surprisingly slightly viscous, like Singaporean dark soy sauce, and had a strong ginger flavor. I also tried the rice roll sauce; it had a normal soy sauce texture, but the ginger flavor was still very strong, meaning it was still not authentic. Given the stated Taishan background, the lack of traditional structure and technique in this clay pot rice was quite surprising. Compared to Clay Pot Cafe in Boston Chinatown, which offers a way more authentic execution, the difference becomes even more apparent. That said, to be fair, the rice itself was decent: grains were distinct, and there was a noticeable wok aroma. Milk Tea: The old menu called it "Hong Kong style milk tea," while the new menu simply said "milk tea," which seems more accurate. It was bitter at first, then intensely sweet, not fragrant at all--very weird. As someone who grew up in Guangdong, it's honestly frustrating to see it reduced to something so off. If you're looking for an authentic Cantonese clay pot rice experience, this would likely be a disappointing stop.

Cloud Asian Fusion is in the corner of the plaza that houses China Pearl and Kam Man, to the right of Kam Man. It is a long narrow type space. Rather industrial, and concrete. I arrived first and scored the last table in the room with the bar, only to later discover that there were a few tables in the room in the back to the right. My DCs were running late, so I gave our waiter a head's up. He never made me feel bad for taking up the space. And it helped that there was never a queue waiting to be seated that Sunday night. We each ordered our own meal while sharing bites. While there are a few entrees at Cloud Asian Fusion that include both protein and vegetable, such as the Braised White Fish $22 (assorted mushrooms, fried tofu) one DC ordered, mine (Siam Crab Curry $22 - lump crab, spicy red curry, basil, bean sprouts, Thai Chili, thin rice noodles) and my other DC's (Mapo Katsu $16 (chicken katsu, mapo sauce, short grain white rice, furikake) came without (I don't count the small stash of raw bean sprouts on my plate), so I added the blistered green beans $16. Our server was pleasant and told me that they could make anything less mild. Even so, the slow burn from the milder Siam Crab Curry was a bit more than I would have liked. He checked up on me and offered to have the chef prepare a fresh batch with a milder curry powder instead, so I could better enjoy my meal. The original orange yellow of my crab curry bowl was turned a green yellow in its replacement. But it was still tasty, and still generous with lump crab meat. This was a good pick! The green bean vegetable dish was quite good too. I was happy with my meal. I sampled the other two dishes and found the regular mapo sauce recipe too spicy for my taste. The fish dish was tasty, but we found nothing especially fusion about it. 3 stars all around experience, but 4 stars for my own meal.
