Char Siu Steamed Rice Roll with egg

Go to Big Fun Cafe if you're looking for some clay pot rice & authentic Taishanese food! My go-to's include: the Yellow Eel clay pot rice, steamed rice rolls w/ pork (+egg), century egg + pork congee, and beef brisket & wonton noodle soup. It's definitely a smaller spot, with only ~ 5-6 tables... not much room to move around. This is the perfect spot to go for authentic Taishanese/Cantonese style Chinese food that you normally wouldn't find at most places nearby. They also have a new location that opened in Brookline that seems to have more seating! Parking: this area gets pretty packed but if you can find a spot, it's free 2hr parking.

Really good claypots with a solid variety. We got the Chinese sausage&bacon and eel claypots. There is a good ratio of meat to rice which some other places skimp on. The rice was also perfect with plenty of crispiness. Also got the curry ball rice rolls which tasted really good. The place is a little smaller so can't fit too many people at one time but things moved fast enough that didn't get congested. Service also really good and speedy. Highly recommend.

Life is Short. F....it up! Family, Flavor, Friends. came here on a cloudy rainy day for lunch with some friends. Very small Mom) pops place that serves good quality freshly made rice noodles and clay pots. Everything was done just perfect and very flavorful very nostalgic tasting and hit the spot and every bite definitely worth a try.

Stopped in here, there's some street parking in the area. It's a little shop, the definition of a hole in the wall. A lot of to-go orders while we were here, they have a few small seats and they get you seated right away with some water in small styrofoam cups. They specialize in the rice noodle, making it fresh here. The fivespice duck is not too bad, probably better if chilled. You just have to watch the bone shards because they cut it up fresh. The rice is a broken rice in the clay pot stays nice and hot, and they have extra sauce to the side if you need it, the sausage and bacon version is good. Lastly we tried the beef chow fun, which was excellent, not too oily and good balance. Plenty of vegetables and though the onions were a little undercooked. Friendly service, too.

Worth the wait! You need to go in person and get a #. Don't be surprised if you need to wait 30 minutes. Note: they don't take reservations and it's mostly tables that seat 2 or 4; one round table seats up to 8. They do have takeout. Keep in mind that all of their rice noodles have cilantro so make sure you request without if that's not your thing. The rice rolls have great flavor and are thin as they should be. The "filling" is not wrapped inside the noodles and really is a topping. Standard condiments for rice roll sauce & clay pot rice are in bottles on the table. A container of chili oil is also on the table. If you know you want clay pot rice, then you should order it as soon as you're seated because it could take a little while. The staff are very nice and helpful. The place is simply decorated and seating is tight.

Small, unassuming establishment. Their Cantonese comfort food did not disappoint! So familiar. The flat rice noodles felt so authentic I had to send a picture to my aunt in China! Great portions for the prices. The biggest downside is that you are sitting quite closely to other guests, which feels cramped and gives no privacy for conversations. The trade off is that they try to fit more tables into the small space to increase seating. Service is fast and efficient and food comes out rather quickly, so they try to minimize wait times. They take credit card which is a plus. We easily found street parking but not sure if that's always the case.

A very small southern Chinese cuisine cafe located in Quincy, just across the street from Wollaston station on the redline. Street parking is a little bit difficult to find as it is limited in that area. The cafe is small, there are only 5 tables. Food: Shrimp steamed rice rolls--Portion is 2x the size you normally get in dim sum. The steam rice rolls were thin and soft with a slight chew, making it super easy to eat (honestly I think I ate a little bit too fast). Every bite has cilantro and shrimp. The flavor is enhanced when you add the chilly oil offered on the table. Spare Ribs with Black Beans Clay Pot Rice--My favorite order, the rice is perfectly crispy at the bottom so make sure you mix and scrape the bottom of the pot. I think they can put a little bit more of the fermented black bean to hence the flavor more. I would order this again. Century old eggs with pork congee-- Very warm and honestly a comfort food IYKYK. Think they can add a bit more of the eggs. The congee is smooth and nicely made. Ice milk tea--Very good not too sweet. The tea can be slightly stronger. Overview: This place is a hidden gem and price is affordable. I would come here again.

This is a no frills spot for some Cantonese comfort food. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu but the rice rolls are def a must get. For two of us, we got two rice rolls and a clay pot rice to share and it was plenty of food. The space inside is pretty small (only 4 tables) as we're pretty much sitting elbow to elbow with the next table. People do come and go pretty quickly so we didn't have to wait for a table.

Authentic Cantonese food! The rice noodle was smooth and delicious. The winter melon soup wasn't on the menu. It was salted just right and tasted like home-cooked soup. The salted fish clay pot rice was flavorful and had a crunchy, burnt rice layer at the bottom. The cafe was small with limited seating. It was nearly full when my friend and I went for a weekend lunch. Service was quite fast.

Soft, delicious, delectable rice rolls. Crispy, fragrant, topping filled clay pot. My favorite roll is the spare ribs ADD egg with no cilantro. Next favorite is minced beef but of course all of them are delicious! All of the clay pots here are very tasty. Can't go wrong with any of them. Highly recommend you try their Hong Kong milk tea. Definitely a must have!

A very small Cantonese cafe with just a handful of tables. The service is reasonable. They seem to speak both Cantonese and Mandarin. The steamed rolls are really good. Perfect thickness and very flavorful. The wintermelon soup was also really yummy. Perfect amount of salt. My friend and I also got the pork claypot rice; it was really good. I liked that they cooked it long enough for the crispy rice. Overall, I'm excited to return and try the chicken soup and a different claypot.

Extremely legit Cantonese cafe! One of the best clay pots I've had in the US. You must eat all the crispy rice at the bottom of the pot, which is such a pleasure. The sitting area is very small but I highly recommend dine in so that you can fully enjoy the meal.

I was in town for the Boston Marathon and came here for dinner. I was staying in Quincy, so I frequented the Wollaston station across the street. The dining area was quite tiny. I saw 1 large circular table and about 6 small tables that they rearranged depending on the number in each party. Since the girl that was working the counter told me that it would be about 20 minutes for a table, I decided to just order my food to-go. I ordered the spareribs with black beans clay pot rice which just so happened to also take about 20 minutes for it to be ready. It wasn't bad, but next time I would want to eat that particular item at the restaurant as it wasn't ideal to be served out of a take-out container. I grabbed one of their menus on the way out. I would definitely want to make a return visit the next time that I'm out in the Quincy area to check out other items on their menu.

First of all, the arrangement they had for queueing for tables was a bit confusing and unclear. We were given a slip of a paper with a number on it, which the hostess eventually called out after about 10 minutes. We ordered lots of dishes to share.. pineapple buns with roast pork, the viral crab rangoon scallion pancake, soup dumplings, rice rolls with ribs, etc. The standout for me was definitely the crab rangoon scallion pancakes. I 100% get the hype! It's ooey and gooey and perfect for any crab rangoon lover. I was however pretty disappointed in the pineapple buns (one of my favorite dishes) and soup dumplings, which honestly just tasted like they were frozen and reheated from the grocery store. The service was also very absent and it took awhile for us to wave someone down so we could pay our bill. Not sure if we visited on an off day or something, but I wasn't very impressed.

It's VERY value though ($9.99 for a massive piece) Bolo Bao w/ Silky Scramble Egg (8.5/10): I haven't had this combo before, but it was very good. Their silky scramble egg dishes are a must-try. Cream-Filled French Toast topped with Ovaltine (9/10): Delicious. They somehow made cheese work with this. I applaud it. Baked Pork Chop w/ Portuguese Sauce (8.5/10): Portuguese sauce was delicious. Pork was tender and flavorful. Cheese on top was delicious. We waited about 90 minutes for Saturday lunch. I would highly recommend not coming with more than 4 people. Of the toasts I have tried so far, I preferred the sweet toast dessert filled with milk as opposed to the truffle egg toast. For entree, I have to say, the fried chicken with the omelet egg is a must try. Next would be the Hainese chicken. Then third with be the sorrowful rice, which is two fried eggs and bbq pork. Everything was so flavorful. You have to try the milk teas. If you prefer sweet, go for the ice bear milk tea, but if you like a bit bitter, go for the hot version and add sugar to your preference. Overall, food came at a fast pace, service attentive. There is plenty of seating end even seating in a private dining space for a larger group of 10 or so in the back of the restaurant.
