The food at Hakata Ramen in Waltham is pretty good. My best friend and I visited on Saturday afternoon, and the restaurant wasn't too busy. There were plenty of tables available when we dropped in, and we were seated promptly. We both ordered the lunch trio special. I ordered a spicy salmon, a spicy tuna, and mango and cucumber roll, accompanied by a miso soup. The ambiance included aesthetically pleasing serving plates and bowls, as well as adorable photos of animals on the walls. The mango and cucumber roll was noteworthy, but the tuna and salmon were somewhat salty. As the lunch special/rolls I ordered may not represent the whole menu, I plan to visit again to try other dishes.

We came for the ramen, dipped into the rolls and poke and left happy. One by one friendly servers popped our dishes out with pride. The crunch on the soft shell crab in our spider roll was on point. My poke bowl evoked a bit of the freshness of Maui. I got the bowl loaded with everything because well-- why not? The ramen was steaming -- not too spicy -- but flavorful and filling for a mid-afternoon lunch. Down home Japanese on display here. Would love for them to spruce up the pictures of the food adorning the walls -- glass pictures or frames would go a long way here. Is Hancock the Dorchester of the South? Considering the top tier Asian food you can get on this strip -- looking at you Le Madeline and Boston Banh Mi -- Hancock seems to be doing just fine by itself, thank you. Hakata is good addition to the neighborhood.

It's been a few years since I've been back up in this area and had a chance to go to Hakata Ramen. It was everything and even better than I remembered. The vibe is a pretty small Homie type of place with about 8 to 10 tables, but the food here is outstanding. I started off with the pork dumplings, which were delicious and ended with the spicy Ramen and added some Chachu. The broth was so flavorful so good. I'd highly suggest this place for a great bowl of Ramen. Service is amazing. Food is great. Prices are reasonable.

We stopped by Hakata Ramen on Monday night since it's one of my mom's favorite places to go. We ordered their ramen and tuna rice bowl. The food was delicious. The restaurant is small and it seemed like a very popular takeout place vs. dine in. The door is right at the center so it gets a bit chilly with a breeze when people enter and exit the restaurant.

Hakata Ramen is a no-frills Japanese restaurant with reasonably priced sushi and great fish quality. If it says anything, we went here twice in one week! It's perfect for satisfying your Japanese food cravings, whether you're in the mood for sushi. We haven't tried the ramen so cannot comment on the quality of it. The service is quick, and the food hits the spot if you're looking for a quick bite. We went for lunch, but I'm sure it would be just as good for dinner.

My S.O. has an unsophisticated tongue said this place is good. I was reluctant to go but I was hungry and this place didn't have a line. So I budged. The place is underwhelming but the staff members were very hardworking and always checked on everybody. The photos didn't look appetizing but I thought it would still be okay. However, a picture is worth a thousand words and in it, the truth. It was very mediocre. The food reminded me of something you'd get at a fast food joint at a food court. To be fair, my S.O. is a value seeker so for its price, it matches perfectly for its quality. I'm a quality over quantity type of person so to be fair, a solid 3 stars for its superb service and value for its food.

Friday Special - Katsu Don, Sushi, and Ramen for $19!
    John H.

Hakata is an ok option when you are craving ramen for takeout. I got the Friday special which came with ramen, sushi, and katsu don. The ramen was a bit sparse with the toppings but came with a garlicky broth that I liked. If you don't like garlic, go with a different broth. There were 3 pieces of sushi. It tasted fine. Nothing memorable but get the job done. I wasn't a big fan of the katsu don though. The curry was a bland and the katsu was soggy (probably because it was takeout and been sitting there for awhile). Getting a chance to taste all 3 dishes for $19 was a decent deal though.

Very thankful to live right down the street from here, because Hakata Ramen has truly become my comfort restaurant. I usually order takeout and have only dined in once, but the one time I dined in was great. Service was fast; cute little place. Food is always amazing!

Quick and easy service. Enjoyed the hakata ramen bowl, with its flavorful and salty pork broth, ramen noodles, half of a hard-boiled egg, bamboo shoots, spinach, and pork. Extremely satisfying, especially on a chilly, rainy day. Only downside was they only give 1/2 a hard boiled egg, would've like a whole! Overall, will order this again!

I stopped by for dinner after a long day of work and it was exactly what I needed! They have such an extensive menu but with really well thought out ramen flavors and combos for each day of the week. This ramen is my go to because of how comforting and rich the broth is. The toppings are also of decent quality and pretty delicious. It's sort of a well balanced dinner with greens, 3 slices of chashu pork, egg, and of course the noodles. The noodles were thick and wavy but not too heavy. Not the best ramen I've ever had but all of this for $12+ is so worth it!

Food here was delicious. Not pictured was the salmon sushi burrito. So worth it! Highly recommend. The ramen was spectacular. Very good. I got the katsu ramen and the chicken came separately, it was not in the broth. Service was friendly. Def will come back.

Toppu is an underrated hidden gem in Quincy!…read more Recently opened and located in South Quincy, Toppu serves Japanese cuisine, ranging from ramen to sushi to omurice. First, we got the vegetable tempura to share. It was light and crispy, pairing well with the sauce they provided. My personal favorite was the sweet potato tempura! They also offer a terrific sushi combo special; 2 rolls for $15 or 3 rolls for $19.45. We got two 3-roll sushi combos and I personally opted for the Spicy Salmon, Spicy Scallop, and Shrimp Tempura rolls. My favorite roll was the Spicy Scallop roll, but all the rolls were amazing! The Spicy Scallop Roll is a MUST TRY here. The fish is so fresh and they give a lot of fish (perfect fish-to-rice ratio!). I love how the tempura was crispy in the sushi rolls as well. Overall, the quality of the food is solid too, and it's a great place to get some tasty sushi. There are probably about 8 tables max at Toppu, so it's a great spot to grab some takeout. They have their own parking lot and there's tons of street parking right in front of the restaurant. However, I definitely recommend dining in though! The restaurant is clean and cute. I love how they have Toppu dishes and glasses. The staff is also very friendly. One thing to note though (which is the only reason I'm giving Toppu 4 stars instead of 5) is that the service can be a bit slow when they're busy. It took some time to get our food and the bill. There was only one waiter working as well. I'm sure once they've been open for a while they'll figure it out! I recommend giving Toppu a try! I'll be back soon to try their ramen and omurice.

I was worried that I had fallen out of love with it, and/or that my palate changed for the worse. Still, me being me, when I discovered Toppu was open, I made it a point to stop in and give it a try. This time I was not afraid of the heat, and ordered the spicy "Volcano" Ramen. I've had my tail absolutely handed to me a handful of times, but I decided to trust the server that it wasn't crazy hot. Well, I am glad to report this was the best bowl of ramen I have had in a long time. It was so good, even though it has been less than 24 hours, I am tempted to go back and order the same thing again. This is one of those rare cases when I cannot think of anything negative to say. Yes, this means I have experienced perfection! I have to start with the broth: the broth had the perfect amount of salt, was very savory, and had a hint of extremely pleasant sweetness. True to the server's word, the heat level was on point. It was spicy enough to be noticeable, but not at all overpowering or overwhelming. The definition of pleasant heat. The Chashu was also great! It was grilled/roasted instead of being boiled, and it had a good balance of fatty and meaty. It had absorbed a little bit of sweetness from the broth which worked wonders with the protein. For the noodles, these were cooked to perfection with just a teeny tiniest amount of firmness for texture. The egg was also cooked perfectly. For the veggies: I love the use of bean sprouts and bamboo shoots for added freshness and crunch. The use of Nori (which I think also counts as a veggie?) was also excellent and added a new dimension to the bowl. Finally, for the service, other than me wishing that an empty water glass was noticed a bit faster, no complaints here. The service was kind, polite, and speedy. When it comes to the location, it is clean and bright! They did a truly lovely job renovating in rehabbing the Dunkin' Donuts that used to be here. With this, I am absolutely a fan of Toppu, and I'm going to make a point to stop in at least one more time before I leave the state for good!

I arrived first and scored the last table in the room with the bar, only to later discover that there were a few tables in the room in the back to the right. My DCs were running late, so I gave our waiter a head's up. He never made me feel bad for taking up the space. And it helped that there was never a queue waiting to be seated that Sunday night. We each ordered our own meal while sharing bites. While there are a few entrees at Cloud Asian Fusion that include both protein and vegetable, such as the Braised White Fish $22 (assorted mushrooms, fried tofu) one DC ordered, mine (Siam Crab Curry $22 - lump crab, spicy red curry, basil, bean sprouts, Thai Chili, thin rice noodles) and my other DC's (Mapo Katsu $16 (chicken katsu, mapo sauce, short grain white rice, furikake) came without (I don't count the small stash of raw bean sprouts on my plate), so I added the blistered green beans $16. Our server was pleasant and told me that they could make anything less mild. Even so, the slow burn from the milder Siam Crab Curry was a bit more than I would have liked. He checked up on me and offered to have the chef prepare a fresh batch with a milder curry powder instead, so I could better enjoy my meal. The original orange yellow of my crab curry bowl was turned a green yellow in its replacement. But it was still tasty, and still generous with lump crab meat. This was a good pick! The green bean vegetable dish was quite good too. I was happy with my meal. I sampled the other two dishes and found the regular mapo sauce recipe too spicy for my taste. The fish dish was tasty, but we found nothing especially fusion about it. 3 stars all around experience, but 4 stars for my own meal.
