My friends and I decided to try the "all you can eat hot pot" experience and I can say that it was worth it. The service was good, our waiter just seemed a bit rushed since he pretty much was the only person servicing the section of the restaurant where we were. This restaurant is pretty big, and has a parking lot. If you are interested in trying the all you can eat hot pot experience you have to make sure that everyone in your party is there the service is timed at 90 mins. We spent $200 (with tip) for 3 people which also included cocktails.... Also please note that in this service, there are sushi options available as part of the all you can eat..... if you do not finish your sushi, they will charge you $1 per sushi... we ended up having to pay an additional $6 for the sushi we didn't eat however my friend was able to take it home with her. read more

I'll keep this short: Service was good, food was not. Let me list some of the things I didnt like about this place: All the skewers we ordered came out cold. It was like they didnt bother to at least heat it up. The meat was cut too thick! one example, the beef tongue was cut way too thick, I'm sure you guys know how unpleasant it is to bite into a rubbery thick piece of tongue. Onto the broth, I dont have a problem paying for broth, but at least have the broth be good. This broth wasn't, and also they use way too much MSG in the broth. I find myself coming here a lot during the winter LOL just this past month (November), I think I've been here 3-4 times. My family was just in town from Florida and they were craving hotpot. I knew I had to take them here. The truffle maki changed their lives on the first bite LOL. All I could say was, uh huh, I told you. We ended up ordering like 5 rolls. The service is ALWAYS A1. The staff is super nice and wonderful. From the host to the waiter/waitress to the lady that grabs your plates and utensils. My last visit I had the pleasure to talk to Shawn. Not sure if he part of the owners there but it was a good conversation. It made my family felt welcomed. It's always good when you go to an establishment to dine it and the customer service is good. It makes your dine in experience great and makes the food taste great. Definitely will be coming back more and more now that the cold weather is here. TIP : splurge and get the premium. So the newly branded Toppot, a tad high on price imo compared to competitors in Boston but welcome addition to the south shore. Changed over from ichiban, layout is pretty much the same! The booths are nice and spacious, room for bday parties, and everything is clean. The service was good, ladies taking way empty plates as you go. You can still order from their al la carte dinner menu and lunch combinations Chinese food but now the new AYCE hotpot. Different pricing structure for weekdays and weekends, as well as lunch. Meat cuts come out pretty small, the ribeye was the best cut in my opinion texture and flavor wise. The broths were lacking and they have their own pricing tier. Which i find crazy all these hot pot places charging. We got the pork bone and tomyum. Porkbone broth was really lacking flavor, singular pork bone and just didn't have the depth. The tomyum was fine and the paste they use had that signature tomyum flavor so we were biased to that side. We'll probably try Mongolian / mala next time. The shrimp paste easily better fish paste They got mussels, clams, white fish fillets, salmon fillets, sushi, sashimi, all that so many items! Wish they had fish roe dumplings. In the premium set ($48? A person) you can get their skewers. The spicy bbq has good flavor, liked it more than the garlic butter style. Our first set came out and was room temp / cold when we got them: the next set was hot, our server made sure of it and it was much better. Limit to 20 skewers per ticket. The sashimi was fresh, the fishes we chosen from premium menu, white tuna, tuna, yellowtail. They have salmon etc too. Appetizer crab rangoons, love that style wrap, mainly cream cheese and a bit of imitation crab meat like most. Wish it had some onion or scallion in there for texture, switch of flavor but dig em anyways. Edamame wasn't for me, didn't finish it needs some sort of seasoning ours had a pinch of salt that was non existent. Desert each person gets 1 choice of ice cream or mochi, i would probably get the ice cream next time! Mochi does come out individually wrapped and froze so hold it over your HP for a little bit to let it soften up. Spider and truffle rolls were good. They had live DJ at night, music trivia to win $15 GCs and karaoke. Sound system is good in there, clear music. Overall clean space, close by, many many dinner menu options or AYCE menu. I would say 3.5/5 overall, but staff was super nice, quick to clean, and accommodating. Owners seem nice per usual! Top Pot is located in Braintree/Quincy and replaced the old Ichiban (AYCE sushi/hotpot) that was in this same location for many years. I think it's still the same owners running it from the previous business or at least recognized many of the staff. They offer AYCE hotpot & sushi, with two options: regular & premium. The premium menu includes meat skewers, sashimi, slightly better options for making rolls, more appetizers, & ribeye/shortrib/beef tongue. We opted for the premium option since I wanted sashimi. Some items we ordered: Broths: tomyum & Japanese bone broth Meats: ribeye, short rib, & beef tongue Seafood: scallops, clams, white fish, shrimp paste, fish paste Vegetables: tongho Sushi/sashimi: salmon, tuna, white tuna, yellowtail, truffle maki, spider maki Appetizers: crab rangoons, edamame, a dozen skewers including beef, lamb, & chicken (spicy & garlic butter) Dessert: mango & green tea ice cream mochi All right, so the broths were just okay... nothing special. The Japanese bone broth was very bland & lacked depth, very much so tasted like water with lots of salt. This is the price for weekend dinner per person. During our dining experience, today they had song trivia & I won two of the song trivia games and received gift cards as a result. That was fun! Top pot is where Ichiban used to be! Unsure if it's same or different management. My friend and I came for lunch on Wednesday right when they were opening. We decided to come for lunch as they were having their free soup base lunch special deal until end of the month. The menu is extensive, ranging from different cuts of meat, sushi, and even appetizers. They also have a sauce bar that had the basic sauces. We opted for the premium option and it was amazing. The crab rangoons were thick, the sushi was fresh, and everything was presented beautifully. We had a great time and everything was delicious. We got the tomyum and mala, the mala was eh not that spicy but the tom yum was super flavorful. The reason we went for lunch is because I will say that it is on the more expensive end. It is about 42-46 I believe for premium for lunch or dinner, and that doesn't include the additional price for the broths. Broths is an added price and it is quite expensive, ranging from 4$ for the basic, then 7-16 dollars for half a pot. Definitely a treat to come since I have not really paid that much for soup base. The interior decor is the best feature of this place! It is beautifully decorated and they have a gorgeous pink flower wall near the bathroom for photo ops. I tried one of the three claw machines that were $2 a try and I lost :( (I am a claw machine addict) We got the regular hot pot and sushi buffet and there were a decent amount of options. I got the Tom Yum and Miso soup base which were super flavorful. Tom Yum is like a sweet and sour tomato based broth and Miso is a nice umami rich flavor. I recommend getting the sirloin, fatty beef, lamb, shrimp, nappa cabbage, mushrooms, and taro for hot pot. These items are a staple and must get at every hot pot. The sirloin here is super rich and holds the broth very well. It is also cut into a decent size. Shrimp and other seafoods we got were fresh and big in size as well. For sushi, we got salmon avocado, spicy tuna, eel unagi, negihama, shrimp tempura, and salmon rolls. The sushi was not very good. The rolls were so small so bite size. The rice was dry. There was barely any fish in the rolls, you can barely taste it. Special spotlight on their Fried Mantu! It is so warm and fluffy. It is similar to a warm, light, and fluffy donut and the condensed milk on it was chef's kiss. This place was super empty when we went and the server and busser were very quick to collect our finished plates and attend to us. I didn't realize before ordering that this is located in the old Ichiban space. I thought it might he just a rename but if it was, what a difference! The inside was clean, fresh with an changed menu that was broken into Chinese or Japanese selections and standing lunch specials. The food was good, in particular a Salmon Poke Bowl and a sushi lunch both from the lunch menu. Will definitely reorder. Takeout was quick and checkout was efficient, always appreciated. For the past 2 years, this place has been one of my go-to spots for sushi and hotpot. Today, I went here for dinner with my boyfriend, expecting nothing less in terms of service and quality of food. However, today was different. We placed our first order of hotpot and sushi, and only received half of our order and one missing sushi roll. My boyfriend ordered a drink, and waited 25 minutes, in which the waitress responds with "the chef is preparing it," but all he got was a Shirley Temple. While waiting his drink, we placed another order, and once again, we were missing sushi rolls that we ordered. We gave them time to bring out the missing sushi and drink, but after 30 minutes go by, we asked the waitress where our food and drink were. She then brought my boyfriend's drink out after waiting ONE HOUR. My boyfriend was very upset about this because they were not giving us the expected service that was once provided to us in the past. Respectfully so, he tipped below the suggested gratuity. As we were walking out, the waitress chased behind him and suggested to him that his tip was "not enough," although he was very dissatisfied. She was practically asking for more money. This is extremely unprofessional, as we believe that tipping is not only a form of respect, but also something that is deserved. read more

They come in smaller portions and you can order more as you go, which is great to control food waste. They had a variety of condiments from the sauce stations that made a good sauce. There is an ayce option with different prices depending on the day of the week (weekday or weekend) and whether it's lunch or dinner time. We went on a Sunday for dinner time so the price was $48 per person for premium and extra for each broth and drinks. The sushi took longer to come out than the hot pot items, but the fish definitely is fresher than Ichiban. The truffle roll was delicious, we didn't want to order more than one maki because too much rice means we'll get full faster. There are a lot of sashimi options (only available when you do premium). Meat for hot pot came in small portions/the meat slices are thin/small so we ordered them multiple times, which was fine since it was ayce. Broth tasted good, nothing special there. We ordered the lychee soju and yogurt soju, they both came out in a big glass jug (we thought they were going to be actual soju bottles), but the drinks tasted good and they were strong. Our server seemed knowledgeable on menu items when we asked him questions. He checked up on us a few times throughout the dinner and to ask if we wanted to order more food. My wife and I came here for dinner on a Friday night. It's the old ichiban and we decided to give a try. I'm so glad we did! I wasn't over revamped but it was bright and clean. Unfortunately, it's a 2-stars for me. I really did want to love this place but the food didn't meet that expectation. So I've tried this place 3 times, 1 dine-in and 2 takeouts. If I based my reviews on this experience only, it would have been 5/5. However, I ordered takeout from this place 3 times and I am on the borderline of not liking this place. The first time I ordered sushi from here, it was greasy. I ordered the spicy maki combo. It was good, but greasy. What do I mean by greasy?? Well, instead of eating right out of the take-out container, I placed it on a real plate... and that was when I noticed all of the oil that was in each piece of sushi. Well ok, maybe they put a little too much spicy mayo in it.. Well, second time, I ordered the spicy maki combo again along with general tso chicken. They didn't even bother making the spicy salmon roll this time. They slapped a piece of salmon on top of some fried tempura and rolled it with the sushi rice. I couldn't even eat it. It was super oily because there was a huge chunk of fried tempura in the roll. The general tso chicken was super dry and tough. I think they had to have deep fried the chicken thighs beforehand and freeze it. Then took those frozen pieces, breaded it and re-fried them, then threw them in sauce. If you cook, you know exactly the texture I'm talking about. Based on my experience, I am never ordering anything Chinese from them. And unless if I'm desperate, I'm probably not going back for sushi either. There are other choices out there. I can drive another 5 minutes for better food. read more

When I saw the prices, I noticed they had increased, but after tasting the food, I realized it was indeed worth the price, and the service had also improved significantly, so I give it 5 stars. Although the Premium option costs almost $50 per person, I believe it's worth it. · The shrimp, in particular, were huge, almost as big as the ones you can find at Costco, and very fresh. The only downside is that you have to peel them yourself. · The shiitake mushroom balls are the best I've ever had in the US. They're handmade, not the greasy, starchy ones you find at supermarkets. Their shiitake mushroom balls are light and have real mushrooms in them. Highly recommended! · Their sides are delicious too. I tried their fried chicken wings, which weren't coated in flour but still very crispy. A must-try for anyone who enjoys tasting different flavors! · The sauce area has been a great upgrades, which I think is fantastic. Lastly, the decor of the restaurant has been upgraded, and the staff are very friendly (at least they were during my visit). The food wasn't too good to be much expensive. The broths are more like chicken broth than flavor. I didn't know the day i went everything was not really fresh or something or just only that day. They even added 18% tip on the bill of serving only 4 people ( 3 adults, 5 yrs and 1 yr old and 1 infant on the carseat) do they serve the 1 yr old and an infant?. I go to other restaurants, they never charge me like this even though i still give them 18-20% tip. However i don't like they added automatically on the bill. So be careful with that if you go to this restaurant. The other thing is they limit on the desert too, one ice cream for each person. Second visit in a week. First time we tried the hotpot, broth was tasty without the heavy, salty taste. Meat and veggies are fresh, the clams were so fresh and just can't have enough. We had a bottle of Cloudy Bay, pairs well with the food. Second time we sat at the bar and tried their appetizers, sake. Overall, fresh sashimi and good selection of sake. I don't think this restaurant is necessarily terrible but there were a few factors to my rating. The restaurant is in such a weird spot, it almost looks a bit shady in a way but that's just my honest opinion. There wasn't many parking spots, especially when we came in during one of the dead hours. The pricing is very very deceiving, it's advertised as being an All You Can Eat (which it is), listing the price of how much it is per person, but it does not include the pricing of broth that is not included. There is also a standard versus premium price if you want to order certain food. All in all we ended up spending more than we would at a generic hot pot. The food was mediocre from what we have tried, we stuck to the standard menu so we weren't able to try anything "premium". If you have the stomach to eat your moneys worth then this place is probably for you. read more

I have been here a few times and have been very pleased with every visit. The renovation of the restaurant was done very well. Lots of large screen tv's near the bar, the environment is bright and cheery (along with the staff), and the bathrooms are kept very clean. The food is outstanding. Fresh food and great presentation. The drinks are really good as well. I intend to be a regular at this spot. I wish the owners great success in their new venture. read more
