Salmon Nigiri - 2 pcs
Katie E.

I've been ordering takeout from Thai Bar Shi for a while now, but finally stopped by for dinner at the restaurant, so I figured it was time for a review. This place is no doubt one of the best sushi spots in the immediate area, I only docked it a star because it has a little ways to go before it can compete with some of the Boston spots I'm used to. One of the reasons we love this place is because they do a good job with both the sushi and all of the other Thai and Japanese dishes, which is perfect for when not everyone in your group is in the mood for raw fish. It can be a little slow, but that's just because it's small and popular, but everyone who works there is really nice and accommodating. Some of my personal favorites from the menu are the Weymouth Cowboy Roll, Hungry Tuna Roll, Tom Yum Noodle soup, and Pad See Ew. All the Nigiri I've tried have been pretty tasty, too. I also saw some drool worthy handrolls going by throughout the meal, I'm definitely going to have to try those the next time I visit. Maybe they'll push me over to that 5-star rating. The pad thai is kind of unique, it's a much skinnier noodle than I'm used to, but the flavor is decent. We also tried the Hotate Hokkaiyaki (which is literally on fire underneath), and while it was good, I felt like you're pretty much paying for the theatrics when it's mostly a pile of crab stick. I also think their special roll menu could use a little more variety. It's a lot of different variations of a similar shrimp tempura roll. Overall, I would 100% recommend this place. I'm just a bit of a snob when it comes to my sushi order :) I'll definitely continue coming back though!

Salmon Hand Rolls and Yellow Tail & Uni Hand Rolls

Delicious, cute designs, fast services and had a great time. We got two handrolls, a sushi roll, mackerel 3pc sashimi and a bashi cold noodle. The handrolls were fantastic, my favorite is the yellow tail with uni, but the salmon one is also good, just boring compared to the yellow tail. I love the sauce that you squeeze into the hand rolls, it added a pop of umami flavor. The roll gan airport roll was fantastic as well, the crispy rice bottom topped with avocado, tomato, and tuna/salmon was just a great balance of flavor and texture. Super delicious! The bashi cold noodles were good but wouldn't order again. The noodles wasn't cold, it was warm, the broth is just a very simple beef broth, the flavors are very subtle. There was a generous portion of meat and the jalapeños definitely adds a kick of spice. But overall, the flavor of the broth was too bland for my liking. There is a parking lot out in front, the interior is cute and the menu is very nicely designed. The servers are very kind and attentive. I love this place overall, the food is delicious!

I came here after lunch, its slow so service was really fast. I ordered pad thai and anago sushi. The sushi was stunning. They definitely have more eel meat over rice overall and the sauce was on point. Pad thai is decent. Portion is not too big but tasted good.

My most recent visit at Thai Bar Shi was tonight. I really do hate to give low star reviews but the lack of professionalism from the staff today was unacceptable and unwarranted. We ordered a bunch of rolls (NBA, caterpillar, dragon, sashimi & sushi combo, and more) as well as hot foods such as boat noodle, hokkaiyaki, etc. Tonight, they did end up getting busy; lots of takeout, deliveries, & dine ins, however, that is no excuse for the passive aggressiveness and plain rudeness that our server and one of the other workers at the front projected to us. What happened: All of the dishes we ordered arrived to our table and we had one more dish we were waiting on (sashimi & sushi combo 6 nigiri 6 sashimi). It had been some time that we waiting so we decided to just ask our server, when she wasn't busy serving the other tables, if it was still coming or if it was forgotten, that is also fine no problem, just take it off the bill. We were simply just wondering, as it was getting late. She responded snarkily, stating that it's coming but ITS BUSY !!! Mind you, our waters also had not been filled in a while at this point... all glasses were empty. We're understanding that it can be overwhelming when it's busy. What I cannot understand is the attitude when we asked nicely about a dish that hadn't arrived in a noticeable time. If the dish was forgotten, it's totally okay, I get it, it happens. The second instance of rudeness we experience during this visit occurred when we were leaving. We asked if we could get a bag for our leftovers and the guy at the front got annoyed but reluctantly went to grab us a bag. Then we realized that some soy sauce packets would be nice to pair with the leftover sushi, so we asked if we could please get a packet or two of soy sauce. His response to this was "Anything else?!" in an obvious angry tone + looked like he was fuming. So, he came back with the soy sauce and would not let go of the packets to hand to us and said "YOU'RE WELCOME. " I'm not sure what was going on today at Thai Bar Shi, but it honestly rubbed me the wrong way. The last time I visited, I wasn't the most satisfied with my experience, but that was regarding the food quality. This experience was a total disappointment overall. Not once did we actually complain to/about our server. We were very calm all the way through our meal and we tried to be as nice and understanding of why they would treat us this way. We also tipped well on top of this... Now, I am truly unsure of if I would ever want to step into the establishment again. This was not cool.

Crispy pad Thai - too sweet
Sandra S.

Decent place if you can't decide between Japanese or Thai food. I really liked the tuna bomb and hungry dragon maki. I would probably skip the spicy combo as it was pretty basic. And I would definitely skip the crunchy Pad Thai. It tasted like the sauce was a sugar coating and was way too sweet. Not pictures was the green curry which I used to try to cover the sweetness. The crunchy chicken on it was good though. Plenty of parking and a average amount of seating. Causal spot.

Wow just simply amazing!!! We had a wonderful foodie ladies night! Food is unbelievable fresh and delicious, service is super friendly, they were super busy with dine in and take out. It was busy inside but not noisy. Our servers are super nice like your big sister and little brother, very attentive and checked on us many times with wonderful smiles, making our night even better. We all amazed with our Lady server's memory, applauding for that, we got around 25 items with 3 separate checks and she don't even need to write down and got them all right! They wouldn't mind we separated the checks, which u may get a long face from other places. Sushi are the freshest I ever have , I went to many places. Amazed how delicious they are, simply look at the fish oil on it! Highly recommend and absolutely will be a regular!!! Thank you for giving us a wonderful night! Only one thing is hope there's dessert, literally one green tea item...

Stopped by here earlier for dinner and the food was delish! The restaurant has a nice warm/cozy vibe with about 7 small tables (2-4 ppl per table) and serves a combination of Thai and Japanese dishes. Some highlights from the meal: Thai Boat Noodles Soup ($13.95) - WOW, WOW, WOW. This might be the best boat noodle soup that i've had in Massachusetts. The soup was aromatic, addictingly tangy, spicy, savory, and mildy sweet all in one. They also thickened the soup with pork blood (the traditional way like they do it in Thailand) which gave the soup more umph, umami, and a warm richness! I also really enjoyed the awesome bounciness of their homemade pork meatballs in the soup! Anago eel nigiri ($9 per piece) - The anago was ginormous and literally 10 inches long. It was definitely the biggest nigiri that i've ever seen, but remember, bigger is not always better! While this felt like a good deal, i thought that the fish skin could've benefited from a better outer crisp. After taking my first bite, it kind of made me feel like the chef was in the process of trying to give the skin a good crisp but quit halfway. O-toro fatty tuna belly ($9 per piece) - YUMS! The o-toro was really good and tasted even better than many of the more expensive places that i've been to in Boston. The toro was super fresh and literally melted in my mouth (yay!). This made me very happy and was a great way to start the weekend. Sushi rice (negative -$1): Dun dun dun............this is the only thing that i didn't quite enjoy at dinner today. The sushi rice was unfortunately not edible at all :(. The rice felt like some kind of weird mushy gooey rice pudding mix which really distracted me from being able to fully enjoy the sushi. My hope is that this was just an isolated incident on their end. Would've given the restaurant a 5 star review if it weren't for the rice. Tip: If you plan to come here on a Friday/Saturday night, i would recommend that you try to get here before 6:15pm. Otherwise there might be a 30-45 minutes wait. Enjoy!

Got some sushi, and pad Thai takeout for lunch today. Put the order in at 11:30am when they started taking orders and it took about an hour for the food to be ready as they were very busy with takeout. The pad Thai portion size was really good but it could use a little more flavor. We also got the Weymouth roll and spicy tuna/salmon combo and it was ok not much flavor on the sushi either. Overall I would recommend for a quick lunch as it was priced fairly.

small place (4-5 tables of 2), but with lots of takeout biz, food turnover is adequate to keep ingredients fresh Japanese dishes (which we mostly ordered) are well-made. Plating is appealing (ex. tuna bomb, scallop hokkaiyaki). There are some inventive renditions of regular ingredients (ex. Aladdins). Huge plus for offering "off-mainstream" items like akimo (monkfish liver), anago (sea eel), and sea grapes. Thai food was great too; had a veggie Pad See Ew, veggies cooked through but not mushy, flavors were there. Portion a bit small but great since I'm mostly munching appetizers. Service was friendly and adequate. The place is clean. Extra points for ease of parking. Through and through a great experience. Would trek all that way just to do it again (and did).

Food was really good! I always love ordering small appetizer dishes to share. The service was decent and once you get a table the wait wasnt bad.

Be prepared to EAT because the portions don't disappoint. Plus everything is super tasty! There's definitely something on the menu for everyone. A few of my favorites are the Spicy Edamame, the Salt & Pepper (S&P) Combo, the Popcorn Chicken, the Pepper Steak Pasta & the Ramen (the charsiu was soo good)! The bar here also makes the best cocktails and has a great selection of liquor. There's usually nothing open late these days but Cloud is actually open to midnight/1AM Mon-Sun. It's the perfect spot to start or end the night with friends! It can get quite busy at the bar or in the dining area but the staff are really accommodating and friendly. The interior is vibey and casual. Check them out if you haven't already!

What!? $25 charge per person for a late cancellation? I wasn't planning on no-showing, but I'm also not willing to put my credit card down to commit for a group. Cloud Asian Fusion is in the corner of the plaza that houses China Pearl and Kam Man, to the right of Kam Man. It is a long narrow type space. Rather industrial, and concrete. I arrived first and scored the last table in the room with the bar, only to later discover that there were a few tables in the room in the back to the right. My DCs were running late, so I gave our waiter a head's up. He never made me feel bad for taking up the space. And it helped that there was never a queue waiting to be seated that Sunday night. We each ordered our own meal while sharing bites. While there are a few entrees at Cloud Asian Fusion that include both protein and vegetable, such as the Braised White Fish $22 (assorted mushrooms, fried tofu) one DC ordered, mine (Siam Crab Curry $22 - lump crab, spicy red curry, basil, bean sprouts, Thai Chili, thin rice noodles) and my other DC's (Mapo Katsu $16 (chicken katsu, mapo sauce, short grain white rice, furikake) came without (I don't count the small stash of raw bean sprouts on my plate), so I added the blistered green beans $16. Our server was pleasant and told me that they could make anything less mild. Even so, the slow burn from the milder Siam Crab Curry was a bit more than I would have liked. He checked up on me and offered to have the chef prepare a fresh batch with a milder curry powder instead, so I could better enjoy my meal. The original orange yellow of my crab curry bowl was turned a green yellow in its replacement. But it was still tasty, and still generous with lump crab meat. This was a good pick! The green bean vegetable dish was quite good too. I was happy with my meal. I sampled the other two dishes and found the regular mapo sauce recipe too spicy for my taste. The fish dish was tasty, but we found nothing especially fusion about it. 3 stars all around experience, but 4 stars for my own meal.

My drink came after 15 mins and then we had to remind the waiter about his whiskey. That took another 10. We started with the chicken bao buns and the samosas. Both spectacular! My only complaint is the little size for the samosa size. For our mains we got the short rib and the white butter chicken. The butter chicken could've used a bit more chicken for the price and was frankly a bit tough. The sauce was great. The short rib was flavorful and packed the perfect punch. Dipping the garlic naan in both sauces was my fav part!! Overall an ok experience. I want to give the restaurant grace because it was very packed but service was poor. I think we had 4 different staff members help us total which probably led to lots of miscommunication.

We had takeout, which was packed carefully and packaged as neatly as ever - the hot items in one bag, the cold items in another bag -to make it home in a reasonable time. Where things went wrong: Chicken Teriyaki skewers had zero teriyaki glaze and instead were coated - WELL COATED - in a non-removeable green curry covering. There was absolutely no connection between these skewers and teriyaki. None of us cares for curry, so that was trashed since the cat sat back and said "absolutely not!" Pad Thai with the Chicken and Shrimp option had two (2) medium shrimp, so I guess that counts as multiple shrimp . . . the chicken was dry but at least it was plain, no curry. However, unlike the well coated curried skewers, there was virtually no Pad Thai sauce. The sauce that makes the bland rice noodles come to life was MIA. After much discussion and pulling the stuck together noodles apart, we did think that a very scant spoonful of sauce had been added to the very center of the container, making it a bit more Pad Thai-ish than the bare noodles in the other 2/3 of the takeout container. Pulled out the chicken bits and those two shrimp and trashed the rice noodles because I didn't even have a store-bought packet of Pad Thai sauce on hand to zhush it up! On the cold side, the go-to order of sushi Chirashi was good, fortunately because we were down two dishes out of three! Note to self: live and learn, keep to the Japanese side of the menu, and stop expecting a restaurant to do more than one style of cooking well, it never happens the way you hope it will!

I've eaten a lot of Chinese and Asian food and i don't usually go for it because there's so much bad and greasy. I prefer Japanese, usually, but when my dad started cooking Szechuan, we tried a wide variety of very authentic restaurants in Boston Chinatown, I know what I'm eating. This one hits the mark. We tried three things for range and shared. A beautiful rare black pepper and sesame seared tuna over salad, with super fresh fish, the level of pepper was on point. It was great. We had the pu pu platter for one which was a ton of food and delicious. We had the crazy chow fun (foon) with beef but without the spiciness so it was regular beef chow fun. Again the meat was tender and the wide noodles had the right amount of sauce. This is due to some creative decisions I disagree with and, at times, very little eel. Meanwhile, Sake Japanese Restaurant hits just the right spot! The creative decisions were excellent, with everything coming together splendidly. The fish was fresh and in more than generous amounts. This, in turn, makes the cost of about $20 per roll seem reasonable and makes it much easier to stomach (I didn't intend the pun, but I will own it). Regarding the Holiday and the Kevin Page, these maki rolls are similar. Both shine with the white fish on top and generous amounts of tuna (and salmon in the Holiday's case) within. The eel and cucumber add a pleasant new dimension to the pieces. I'd say these two are like identical twins adopted by different families. Each will have some unique personality and flair, but at the core, they are one. The crazy tuna brought something different to the table. While I am generally not a fan of the chopped-up style of fish, here it just works, and I didn't mind it. If I were to guess, this is because many places have more tempura than fish and add too much spicy mayo. Despite the style, the tuna was still able to shine through. For the inside, I enjoyed the crunch and freshness of the cumber with the sweetness and savory notes from the eel. Finally, the service was polite and speedy, though it wasn't bustling. Thus, not only would I happily return to Sake, but I would love to order the same three rolls again, for they were *that* good.
