Very cozy family run sushi spot! Owners are super sweet and friendly. I've had my eye on this place for a few months now and I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger. Would recommend trying their sushi apps and rolls! Quality is super fresh. Salmon truffle, jalapeño hamachi and spicy scallops maki were great. Can't wait to come back to try more items.

Umai in Braintree is the newest sushi spot on the South Shore! Family-owned and run, everything is truly made with so much love and care. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. They're so open to feedback as well since they just opened! The sushi was really fresh and offered at a great price. Everything was plated so beautifully. I was really impressed by their Salmon on Fire ($17) and Salmon Truffle ($17). The raspberry sauce for the Salmon on Fire was really unique, and the presentation was so eye-catching - yes the Salmon is actually on fire! The Salmon truffle was insane as well; there were gold flakes and LITERAL truffle pieces. I also tried the South Shore Maki ($17) and Tornado Maki ($17). The South Shore Maki is probably one of my favorite makis right now. The wasabi mayo paired with the mango filling made the best sweet, savory, and spicy combo. The tempura flakes added the perfect texture crunch, too. I liked the Tornado Maki as well; the snow crab was really delicious. Overall, Umai is a small but mighty restaurant. Located unassumingly in Braintree, they're serving up some high-quality and tasty dishes. Definitely recommend giving them a try!

I recently wrote a review for the 'Hot & New' Omori in Quincy. While I am not a detractor of Omori,…read morethe experience there left something to be desired. This is due to some creative decisions I disagree with and, at times, very little eel. Meanwhile, Sake Japanese Restaurant hits just the right spot! The creative decisions were excellent, with everything coming together splendidly. The fish was fresh and in more than generous amounts. This, in turn, makes the cost of about $20 per roll seem reasonable and makes it much easier to stomach (I didn't intend the pun, but I will own it). Regarding the Holiday and the Kevin Page, these maki rolls are similar. Both shine with the white fish on top and generous amounts of tuna (and salmon in the Holiday's case) within. The eel and cucumber add a pleasant new dimension to the pieces. I'd say these two are like identical twins adopted by different families. Each will have some unique personality and flair, but at the core, they are one. The crazy tuna brought something different to the table. While I am generally not a fan of the chopped-up style of fish, here it just works, and I didn't mind it. If I were to guess, this is because many places have more tempura than fish and add too much spicy mayo. Despite the style, the tuna was still able to shine through. For the inside, I enjoyed the crunch and freshness of the cumber with the sweetness and savory notes from the eel. Finally, the service was polite and speedy, though it wasn't bustling. Thus, not only would I happily return to Sake, but I would love to order the same three rolls again, for they were *that* good.

While my order was in route, the restaurant called and informed me that my driver forgot the hot items. Before I could even feel an ounce of disappointment and without prompt I was asked for my address as well as phone number and their delivery guy brought my ramen! No extra charge, and when I tried to give him a tip, he politely declined. THAT is platinum level of customer service. And to top it off, the sushi was delicious...I cannot wait to heat up and try the ramen. Highly suggest, if I could give more stars I would!

I would go to the original Brookline location but this one is a little easier for me to get to. My go-to is the OG miso ramen, It's very rich and hearty, leaving you quite satisfied after eating. If you want a "cleaner" flavor, then shio is a good choice. The portions are rather generous and they don't skimp on the toppings. You actually get a 1/2 egg included, which is becoming rare these days. The karaage (fried chicken) isn't the crispiest I've ever had but it is really flavorful and tender. The marinating and using boneless chicken thighs lends itself to having those two traits. Service is generally friendly and prompt. The area inside is a little dark, and uses artificial lighting to stay somewhat bright, but it's fine. This is a less cramped space than the Brookline location and since it's in a strip mall, there's parking. The area is rather devoid of ramen shops, so this was a much-welcomed addition.

I had heard about this spot for a while but hadn't had the chance to visit--until now, and I'm glad I did. We started out with the Spicy Korean Fried Chicken Bao, which were decent. The Bao was a little stiffer than expected, but the flavor was good. The little bit of scallion really added to the flavor. We also had the Crispy Brussel Sprouts. Those were awesome! Perfect flavor and texture. Who knew Brussels could be so good?! We then had the Miso Tonkotsu Ramen, The Miso Kimchi Ramen, the Tonkotsu Ramen, and the Shio Garlic Ramen. The Miso Tonkotsu Ramen had the best flavor hands down. A really nice salty and umami flavor that was perfect. The Tonkotsu & Kimchi were both quite good too. The Shio Garlic Ramen was a little lacking. The broth reminded us of a stock chicken Pho broth. It was decent, but nowhere near as good as the others. We also loved the location and the whimsical style of the interior. It had its own design style, and wasn't trying to be another me-too location. We look forward to our next visit soon!
