A lot has changed at Takara since I last reviewed. They no longer have outdoor seating, but they expanded the building! and now there are these cute half circle seats you can watch the bar TV's from. The design of the restaurant is just really nice. I feel a little "fancy" eating there. The last couple of times we have gone we have gotten a chicken lettuce wrap special and it's super delicious - we last had it months ago and were excited when it was still on the menu last week. And hot sake, which is relaxing even in the summer. We've also enjoyed Teriyaki dinners and sushi here, some memorable lychee martinis. We ended up at Takara after a disappointing experience across the street at Rosetta's Italian Restaurant, and what a relief it was. The food was amazing, the service was friendly and welcoming, and the sushi was incredibly fresh. The noodles were outstanding--perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The sushi here is very high quality and they have many creative specialty rolls as well as unique appetizers. The Tuna Heaven was particularly interesting. A soft potato pancake with a lot of Tuna on top. I would say great value for that. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because the sushi rolls themselves, while delicious, are quite pricey. This is pricier than similar quality sushi in downtown Boston. But considering it is one of the few good sushi spots in the area, it is definitely worth the occasional visit. A Takara Roll is made with tuna, salmon, yellow tail, tobiko, cucumber... I've had it many times at Takara in Canton. Tonight it tasted like it had mackerel in it. I asked my wife if it was just me. Nope. Definitely fishy. I commented to the waitress that the fish was fishy. She offered to have it seared or to put extra sauce on it so it wouldn't seem so fishy. I didn't think trying to mask the taste of fish that wasn't fresh was the right way to go. I left with most of the food on my plate. The roll was $20 wasted of an $80 meal. To be fair, my wife's meal was fine. Still, it will be a long time before I go back. My fish wasn't good and the waitress response was no better. read more

My wife & I have been to Takara many times and have always been satisfied. My wife likes their spicy tuna maki and I get the Tofu Yaki Soba. We both enjoy the pan fried Gyoza and they have the best miso soup! We got adventurous and ordered the ginger scallion lobster. Cost was $35 for single, which we shared. The lobster is cut up in the shell, with a delicious somewhat sweet coating, which makes you just want to suck on the shell. My only complaint is there wasn't much actual lobster meat, the claws were tiny (chicken lobster), and most surprisingly, where did the lobster tail go? At first, I thought my wife got to it first, but when I asked her later she said no. Oh well, still tasted great (though quite messy). We very much recommend Takara for a satisfying meal, lobster or not! read more

Sent back rotten green crab, could not eat the old eel & cucumber roll, and the unagi was just swallowable before the gag reflexes. Omfg! Takara doesn't disappoint, went here tonight. Sushi's are top-notch. We ordered Hawaii, Weston and Hoka Tuna rolls and each one of them was nicely prepared and tasty. Tuna Tartar was different from the usual but delicious. Service is highly efficient and attentive. Love the new location, thought it was a little bit more tight in space compared to the old location. I went out to lunch on a whim and was going to be bad and head over to 5 guys for a burger and fries. I got to the intersection and then remembered that Takara was right on the next corner if I took a right. I took the right and gave Takara a shot. I am SO glad I did. I ordered light, with a Rainbow roll and the 4 pc Sushi Sampler; Both were perfect!! Not overly an overly large roll but tightly rolled and with toped with fresh pieces of a variety of fish. The 4pc sushi sampler was equally well done 4 perfectly sized pieces of Nigiri Sushi and with the exception of one, didn't come apart when I picked it up with my chopsticks. When I was deciding where I wanted to have lunch today, I decided to come here because it was convenient to where I live. But it also happened to be the third time I've come here for lunch in the last two months because it's a nice little cozy spot to get delicious sushi, soup, noodles, ect. The staff are very friendly, will answer your questions, and will direct you on what is good to eat. Today I ordered the Celtics roll, and the tofu Bibimbap, which came with miso soup. All were very flavorful, healthy and tasted great. If you were looking to eat out lunch and not get the usual pizza slice, or sandwich, I recommend coming here. read more

I'm disappointed that Takara's standards have decreased since I have eaten here a lot in the past. Their sushi is mediocre now but their calamari is even worse than last time. It's dry circles/rings that they advertise as calamari tempura but is chewy/hard to bite into and swallow and tastes awful. My children love calamari but they couldn't even bite the calamari from Takara. There were only 9 small calamari rings, and they were awful and inedible. The oyster tempura were only four pieces and they were mediocre at best. Their Korean food was even worse! Sushi is definitely better here than their Korean food, and we learned that lesson after ordering Jap Jae with beef (the noodles are not the typical Jap Jae noodles) and galbi beef. The galbi beef was priced at $17.95 and it did not taste good at all. It had a lot of sauce. I took a bite since I love galbi and it was also chewy and did not taste good. Plus after eating it, I noticed there was also a strand of dark black hair inside. I have blonde/brown hair and I was the first one to open it so I knew it was not my hair. Plus it was inside with the galbi beef. It was so gross I couldn't eat it after seeing that. Plus, when I did try it before I saw the black hair, it already did not taste good. I tasted regret for ordering a $17.95 dish that was not worth anywhere near that. The sushi like I said is mediocre. The sushi wasn't as good as I remembered in the past, but the calamari and Korean food were awful! Definitely do not recommend. read more

We went to Takara in February 2024 after several years of absence in the past this was a pretty good Japanese Restaurant at their old location but they have since moved down the street to what was formerly a Dunkin Doughnuts. First the space is now even smaller than the old restaurant location, The new layout is basically a row of small tables along the window and a bar that is full of people there for drinks. We came for Japanese / Koran food which is much more than just Sushi. We had Japanese appetizers including a special sushi roll with snow crab. , scallops and avocado that was flambéed which was delicious. However the main courses were where the meals went downhill. We had an Udon Noodle Chicken soup dish that was just chicken soup with no seasoning to give it a Japanese profile or umami flavor. Second was a Bimbab Bowl featuring Pork Katsu that again lacked any seasoning or Korean Flavoring nor was it served with any Gouchang sauce or Plum Sauce / Hoisin. Finally a Shrimp Tempura with Vegetables. The food was covered with a very thick tempura batter that was akin to eating a corn dog! The tempura dipping sauce lacked the proper balance of soy and sugar and possibly mirin was was just water soy colored water with absolutely no taste. My concern here is with the Chef or the recipie, do they ever even taste their own food? If you want Sushi this place is probably fine but call it a Sushi Bar because otherwise it is seriously lacking. There are many better Japanese Restaurants in the suburbs. PS, I forgot to mention the Miso Soup that lacked dashi no moto or other flavoring in the broth and only a tiny amount of miso which should be the star of the so Yelp is prompting me for a service review so I will say the staff is all ethic Chinese which is expected but our server spoke so little English that we gave up on any additional request than the meal, read more

Those in the area are sleeping on Takara--the selection, service, price point, and quality are all top tier. Never as busy as they deserve, which means you'll be able to get in no problem. The menu is huge with lots of diversity, but we mostly go for the sushi with an appetizer to start. The fish is always amazing and the sushi chefs are more like artists. This is a great place if you're on the adventurous side--the Hamachi Kama and soft shell crab are our favorite appetizers and we try new rolls and nigiri each time we're there. After reading good reviews on Yelp I was confident to try this restaurant. Placed an order online and they automatically charged 15% tip but I was okay expecting good food and service. Picked up Katsudon and back to my car, opened my food and disappointed just by looking at it. All the veggies and egg were covering katsu making it soaked wet. Katsu should be on top of veggie and egg to keep top of it crisp. Even eggs were sunny side up instead of omelette. Worst part was I had two big onion peels in it. I spent ***$90*** on takeout for 2 and specifically requested in our order that they slice the sashimi thickly, ordering enough for them to make things work out. They promise 3 pieces of sashimi in an order, so I expected 2, which would have been great. What we got was 4 paper thin slices of fish for each sashimi order. I knew I shouldn't have trusted the 4-star yelp review. I ordered the Hibachi assorted seafood dish (it literally says Hibachi on the menu) that cost $18. The dish came stir fried, NOT Hibachi grilled, and dipped in sauce. I asked the waitress why it wasn't Hibachi grilled, and she said it's because they don't have the Hibachi grill in house. I then asked her why they would call the dish hibachi if they couldn't even cook it the right way, she replied "because stir fry is similar to hibachi". My mind was just completely blown. I didn't know you could advertise one thing and sell another. It's like ordering french fries and being served a plate of mashed potatoes. Unfortunately my girlfriend was too polite to send the dish back and decided to scarf down her $18 stir fried "Hibachi" seafood dish out of starvation. On my drive home I wondered how they could sustain in the restaurant business like that; I guess there are enough people in Canton who cannot differentiate hibachi and stir fry. I dropped by this place for a bite after passing this restaurant so many times whenever I go to the gym. I ordered two pieces of uni, two pieces of scallop, and the Around the World roll to start. The uni and scallop nigiri was good and fresh. The Around the World roll had salmon tempura, avocado, and tobiko. It was delicious. It definitely reminded me of Route 66 from Oishii(which is now closed). For my entree, I got the katsu-don. It came with sliced pork cutlet, poached egg, sliced carrots, napa, and onions. It was an interesting take to this dish because usually there are no carrots or napa mixed in and the egg is made as an omelette instead of a poached egg. Nevertheless, it tasted good. The only downside was that the pork cutlet was not very crispy. Overall, it was a great meal. read more
