I would go to the original Brookline location but this one is a little easier for me to get to. My go-to is the OG miso ramen, It's very rich and hearty, leaving you quite satisfied after eating. If you want a "cleaner" flavor, then shio is a good choice. The portions are rather generous and they don't skimp on the toppings. You actually get a 1/2 egg included, which is becoming rare these days. The karaage (fried chicken) isn't the crispiest I've ever had but it is really flavorful and tender. The marinating and using boneless chicken thighs lends itself to having those two traits. Service is generally friendly and prompt. The area inside is a little dark, and uses artificial lighting to stay somewhat bright, but it's fine. This is a less cramped space than the Brookline location and since it's in a strip mall, there's parking. The area is rather devoid of ramen shops, so this was a much-welcomed addition.

I had heard about this spot for a while but hadn't had the chance to visit--until now, and I'm glad I did. We started out with the Spicy Korean Fried Chicken Bao, which were decent. The Bao was a little stiffer than expected, but the flavor was good. The little bit of scallion really added to the flavor. We also had the Crispy Brussel Sprouts. Those were awesome! Perfect flavor and texture. Who knew Brussels could be so good?! We then had the Miso Tonkotsu Ramen, The Miso Kimchi Ramen, the Tonkotsu Ramen, and the Shio Garlic Ramen. The Miso Tonkotsu Ramen had the best flavor hands down. A really nice salty and umami flavor that was perfect. The Tonkotsu & Kimchi were both quite good too. The Shio Garlic Ramen was a little lacking. The broth reminded us of a stock chicken Pho broth. It was decent, but nowhere near as good as the others. We also loved the location and the whimsical style of the interior. It had its own design style, and wasn't trying to be another me-too location. We look forward to our next visit soon!

The layout of the restaurant is similar to the Brookline location, with the private booths on the right and special booths on the left, main seating area in the middle, and the bar seating towards the back. Only difference is the Brookline location has those cool matcha whisk structures, while this location has cool honeycomb structures. I would've loved to experience sitting in one of those. I always like to eat spicy so of course I got the Kyushu Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. As always, broth is so flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. The ramen texture is my favorite, good amount of softness and waviness. The boiled egg is marinated just right, not too salty or sweet. The chashu pork is tender. I wanted to try their version of the spicy cucumbers. It's REALLY spicy. But also very good. The flavor reminds me of the Chinese chili oil sweet potato noodles, very spicy, kind of salty, and a strong taste of vinegar. I love snacking on it. The takoyaki is the best of course, perfectly soft and tender, with thin bonito shavings and great sauce. The fries are essentially seasoned the same way. Salted fries with the takoyaki sauces and bonito. The combo works very well together. Thai tea was good and service was great. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll stop by for another bowl.

The bun was delicious, with tender pork and a flavorful sauce and I loved having the Thai tea to sip on. We also ordered the cucumber salad to share and it was nice and fresh and spicy. My curry ramen was delicious and hearty. My partner ordered the #2 and I really liked the pork in his bowl, I preferred it over the tonkatsu in mine. We ended our meal with matcha tiramisu and during the current promotion, we won an order of popcorn chicken to redeem on our next visit. The restaurant is cozy and they make use of the small space with their honeycomb wall. There are lots of employees working, so service is quick and we were able to call our sever to the table with a button when we wanted to order and pay.

First off, the food came out fast (a win when you're starving), and the service was genuinely excellent. Attentive without hovering, friendly without forcing small talk. The place is cute and has plenty of seating. They also do take out! I ordered the Hawaiian poke bowl and WOW. The portion was huge (like "why did I think I could finish this?" huge), the price was super affordable, and the spice + flavor combo hit every craving I didn't even know I had. Balanced, bold, and just the right amount of heat. We also tried two rolls, plus the calamari and edamame, and everything across the board was solid. Fresh, well-made, and clearly cared for. To drink, I had the popping boba passionfruit tea and it was full of flavor without being overly sweet. Refreshing and fun, not syrupy. Overall: great food, generous portions, fair prices, and excellent service. I'll definitely be back and probably ordering the poke bowl again because... why mess with perfection?

Toppu is an underrated hidden gem in Quincy!…read more Recently opened and located in South Quincy, Toppu serves Japanese cuisine, ranging from ramen to sushi to omurice. First, we got the vegetable tempura to share. It was light and crispy, pairing well with the sauce they provided. My personal favorite was the sweet potato tempura! They also offer a terrific sushi combo special; 2 rolls for $15 or 3 rolls for $19.45. We got two 3-roll sushi combos and I personally opted for the Spicy Salmon, Spicy Scallop, and Shrimp Tempura rolls. My favorite roll was the Spicy Scallop roll, but all the rolls were amazing! The Spicy Scallop Roll is a MUST TRY here. The fish is so fresh and they give a lot of fish (perfect fish-to-rice ratio!). I love how the tempura was crispy in the sushi rolls as well. Overall, the quality of the food is solid too, and it's a great place to get some tasty sushi. There are probably about 8 tables max at Toppu, so it's a great spot to grab some takeout. They have their own parking lot and there's tons of street parking right in front of the restaurant. However, I definitely recommend dining in though! The restaurant is clean and cute. I love how they have Toppu dishes and glasses. The staff is also very friendly. One thing to note though (which is the only reason I'm giving Toppu 4 stars instead of 5) is that the service can be a bit slow when they're busy. It took some time to get our food and the bill. There was only one waiter working as well. I'm sure once they've been open for a while they'll figure it out! I recommend giving Toppu a try! I'll be back soon to try their ramen and omurice.

I'm going to be honest with you all: I love ramen! After a disappointing experience at another…read moreplace, I was worried. I was worried that I had fallen out of love with it, and/or that my palate changed for the worse. Still, me being me, when I discovered Toppu was open, I made it a point to stop in and give it a try. This time I was not afraid of the heat, and ordered the spicy "Volcano" Ramen. I've had my tail absolutely handed to me a handful of times, but I decided to trust the server that it wasn't crazy hot. Well, I am glad to report this was the best bowl of ramen I have had in a long time. It was so good, even though it has been less than 24 hours, I am tempted to go back and order the same thing again. This is one of those rare cases when I cannot think of anything negative to say. Yes, this means I have experienced perfection! I have to start with the broth: the broth had the perfect amount of salt, was very savory, and had a hint of extremely pleasant sweetness. True to the server's word, the heat level was on point. It was spicy enough to be noticeable, but not at all overpowering or overwhelming. The definition of pleasant heat. The Chashu was also great! It was grilled/roasted instead of being boiled, and it had a good balance of fatty and meaty. It had absorbed a little bit of sweetness from the broth which worked wonders with the protein. For the noodles, these were cooked to perfection with just a teeny tiniest amount of firmness for texture. The egg was also cooked perfectly. For the veggies: I love the use of bean sprouts and bamboo shoots for added freshness and crunch. The use of Nori (which I think also counts as a veggie?) was also excellent and added a new dimension to the bowl. Finally, for the service, other than me wishing that an empty water glass was noticed a bit faster, no complaints here. The service was kind, polite, and speedy. When it comes to the location, it is clean and bright! They did a truly lovely job renovating in rehabbing the Dunkin' Donuts that used to be here. With this, I am absolutely a fan of Toppu, and I'm going to make a point to stop in at least one more time before I leave the state for good!
