Overall tasty spot, appetizers like sausage and brussel sprouts were yummy. Pretty good udon! Karaage Chicken Curry was also super tasty, we would have liked a bit more curry sauce with the rice.

Fried oysters - they were okay.

If I could give half star I would give SomenYa 3.5 stars. Service was slow. The host and server was one person. We had to wait awhile to see him walk around. The restaurant is nicely decorated with Asian decor and it's rather clean. The restaurant side was quiet while the bar side was lively. Food was hit and misses. There were a few things that were packed with flavors and some were lacking it. My favorite dish was spicy chicken gizzards. I will definitely come back to try more dishes as their menu has quite a large selection.

This place is so cute tucked close to Wollaston station on Beale street where all the food places are popping at. The homemade udon was nice and chewy, along with the soup, it's very comforting. They have a wide selection of udon options, more creative on the cold ones than hot soups. They also have a very ambient bar on the other side with very creative cocktails and various spirits. Parking is fairly easy right outside - street parking

I personally didn't enjoy this udon restaurant. I've tried it twice -- once when they first opened and again more recently -- and both times the udon just didn't impress me. The flavors felt off, and some lacked flavor. For the price, I don't think the udon is worth it, especially since the Chinatown location tastes much better in comparison. That said, the appetizers here are really good, and I've heard the drinks are great (though I haven't tried them myself). I also haven't had the rice bowls, so those might be worth checking out. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, and I think it's a nice spot if you're looking for small bites and drinks -- just not for the udon. The servers are also quite attentive and quick to serve.

Exquisite interior that really pulls you out of Quincy, MA. It's neatly sectioned off between a bar area and a dining area with some large semicircle booths along the windows - lovely concept. The service is quick and food took a reasonable time to prepare. We got the cold udon (not pictured unfortunately), spicy beef udon, and a fried octopus (squid? calamari?) appetizer. They were all delicious, the cold udon was chewy and the broth in the hot udon is really well balanced - not too spicy either, not like a mala kind of feel. The fried appetizer was crunchy and chewy. It's a great spot to get your quick udon fix, I've had better, but nothing really wow-ed me about this place.

Pretty decor of Japanese cherry blossoms and bright inside. I wished the food matched the interior design. Plenty of street parking available on Beale St. Truffle Tater Tots Hamachi Kama Japanese Takoyaki Crispy Squid Tentacles Spicy Snow Crab Meat Hot Udon Mentaiko Creamy Udon I still prefer Yume Ga Arukara for Udon but this place is decent. The food was ok and service was average. I wished I had more to say. Overall this place seems a bit pricey with nothing memorable.

Soft opening, we liked the spot in Chinatown and noticed they opened on Beale street in Quincy right down the street from Wollaston T. Ambiance and decor were nice and super inviting. Dining on the right with bar counter on the left. Now we know this is like a soft opening as they don't have soba noodles which is what we wanted to order so we had to go with udon. Soba noodles and sushi is coming soon they said. So a bit disappointing start but overall that's okay we proceeded. Like others may have said to us, the koji chicken was like what you'd expect karage chicken to be. It wasn't the crispiest but the chicken was juicy and tender. Extra hot temp which is always good for us and came with some QP mayo and some spice we added that was available on the table. The lady knows what's it was called i can't recall. It paired well! Now the beef sukiyaki for us today, the broth was good for us, had good depth of flavor, so I'm hoping their process gets streamlined for consistency (just reading other folks experience here thus far) like their chinatown counter part. The portion was straight for our hunger level. The tantan is what i got, i think there could have been more of the ground meat, it was mostly noodles and garnish and i concur with the lady the sukiyaki was better. The broth wasn't actually spicy (now i don't mean kick you in the face spicy but a hint of a kick would've been welcome haha). Overall cant wait until they update their menu with soba noodz, since that's what we looking for!

My partner and I got the spicy salmon tartare, koji fried chicken, spicy Japanese cold tofu udon, and taraka udon - TASTE: 4/5 - the yuzu dressing was tasty in the salmon tartare and both udon bowls. My spicy udon wasn't spicy though TEXTURE: 4/5 - we love how refreshing cold udon is! Thought the salmon would be finely minced or chopped in tartare fashion, but it was presented in chunks. The homemade udon was a little chewier than expected PRICE: 3/5 - pretty expensive. Most apps are $12-15 and most udon $20+ SERVING SIZE: 3/5 - both apps (~12 pieces of salmon and 6 pieces of chicken) and both udons were much smaller than anticipated. Twas a light dinner SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 6pm on a Thursday and a couple tables were seated. The staff was friendly and our food started coming out 10-15min after ordering ATMOSPHERE: 5/5 - such a nicely decorated space! PARKING: 4/5 - got a free street spot right on Beale St

I've heard so many wonderful things about Somenya, so I had to check it out -- and it did not disappoint! As soon as I walked in, I felt transported to another world. The beautiful cherry blossom decor and Japanese-inspired design create such an inviting and elevated dining atmosphere. The service was excellent -- our server was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. The food was just as amazing as everyone says! The udon noodles had the perfect balance of chewiness and flavor. Plus, they have a full bar with a great selection of drinks that look as good as they taste. A fantastic spot to hang out with friends or coworkers. Highly recommend!

I came here after work. The sushi here is incredibly fresh, every bite melted in my mouth. The staff was warm and welcoming, and the bar had a great selection of sake and cocktails. Perfect spot or a night out! Stop by on the weekend as well because I live around and try the yakitori skewers, salmon rice with and drink , not bad ... enjoy and relax after work ;)

Nice addition to the Wollaston area for a simple meal. I tried the location in Chinatown, which has a more extensive menu, and I expected this place to have a similar menu. However, they focused on udon, with no selection of soba, which was disappointing. I wish they would add more selection soon, as this place is significantly larger than the Chinatown location. The service is slow on a Friday lunch since there is only one person at the front who has to greet, and also a server. If one person is working, they should have some alert when someone enters, even if there is no one at the front. We ordered hot sukiyaki beef udon and cold sukiyaki beef udon. The udon has a nice texture, being chewy rather than soft. However, since I had udon the day before at Yume Ga Arukara, Somenya still needs more improvement, especially in their soup base, as they offer a wider selection.

Oh wow! I totally did not know or expect Somenya to open in Quincy, what a treat! They currently have one other location in Boston's Chinatown, which serves both soba + udon noodles, as well as appetizers + rice bowls. Currently, they are having their soft opening & are located on Beale St, in the Wollaston neighborhood of Quincy. Conveniently located by the Wollaston T. They've got a beautiful space inside, and is noticeably larger than their Chinatown location! Bathrooms are clean & single occupancy (LOVE THIS!). For now, they are only offering udon noodles for their noodle dishes & will soon be adding the soba noodle option, as well as sushi in the future, according to our server. We decided to order the beef sukiyaki udon, spicy tantan udon, & Koji fried chicken as our appetizer to try. The Koji fried chicken was tasty, similar to chicken karaage. It came with a kupie mayo dip that paired well with the chicken. I enjoyed mixing the mayo w/ the shichimi togarashi (provided at each table), to dip with the chicken! Chicken was not dry at all and was super moist + juicy. I liked the beef sukiyaki udon more than I did the spicy tantan udon. The beef is very flavorful and I love the caramelized onions added! ***Important to note that the spicy tantan is not actually spicy*** It was still good but the flavor profile was not my favorite. Overall, I really enjoyed Somenya in Quincy & love that we have a new noodle spot on the South Shore! Server & staff were all very nice + attentive. Parking: free 2hr street parking on Beale St & Hancock St.

Ground Pork W.preserved Vegetables Clay Pot Rice梅菜肉餅煲仔飯: The English translation is already a bit misleading. This dish should be pork patty with preserved mustard greens, but what was served didn't match either component. First, this was not meicai梅菜(preserved mustard greens). Proper meicai should be dark brown and fibrous even after soaking, whereas this consisted of pale yellow granules, both in appearance and taste much closer to dongcai冬菜 (preserved Chinese cabbages). While dongcai can appear in some clay pot rice dishes, this was clearly not what it should be. Second, this was not a pork patty. The meat was simply loose minced pork scattered on top of the rice, without any mixing or shaping. As a result, it lacked the cohesion, tenderness, and springy texture that define a proper pork patty. There was even a slight sour note, which felt off. Third, the "claypot sauce" was surprisingly slightly viscous, like Singaporean dark soy sauce, and had a strong ginger flavor. I also tried the rice roll sauce; it had a normal soy sauce texture, but the ginger flavor was still very strong, meaning it was still not authentic. Given the stated Taishan background, the lack of traditional structure and technique in this clay pot rice was quite surprising. Compared to Clay Pot Cafe in Boston Chinatown, which offers a way more authentic execution, the difference becomes even more apparent. That said, to be fair, the rice itself was decent: grains were distinct, and there was a noticeable wok aroma. Milk Tea: The old menu called it "Hong Kong style milk tea," while the new menu simply said "milk tea," which seems more accurate. It was bitter at first, then intensely sweet, not fragrant at all--very weird. As someone who grew up in Guangdong, it's honestly frustrating to see it reduced to something so off. If you're looking for an authentic Cantonese clay pot rice experience, this would likely be a disappointing stop.
