Fadensonnen is a great spot for late night drinks and hanging out with friends. This was my second time going and I enjoyed that both experiences felt very different. The first time we sat inside in the upstairs wine and sake area that was dimly lit. The second time we sat outside in the central courtyard area with string lights. It's nice that my friends were able to pick from the beer garden menu, wine menu, or cocktail menu. They also have a side with food that we did not try. Our table loved the rosemary spritz and wild strawberry drinks that had fresh rosemary that was lit with a candle before serving and fresh basil that you could smell while having your drink. Here's why you should make it a must-visit while in Baltimore: 1) Space: The owner is nearby Bar Clavel's Lane Harlan, so you know it will be beautiful. It's a minimalistic bar with wood floors, a small bar, a few tables, and one large wooden community table. The simple design is stunning. 2) Drinks: The wine list is solid and even has an orange wine on the menu that is tasty. They sell sake and a few cocktails. I ordered the peach and cardamon spritz. It was refreshing! 3) Food: Their small plates are excellent. The larder pickles for $4 are among the best pickled vegetables I've ever had. The mushroom tartine was well made and the sobrasada (spreadable pork salumi, labneh, apricot marmalade) with warm sourdough bread was out of this world. What an interesting establishment - split between an outdoor beer garden and an indoor bar area, Fadensonnen is a unique addition to the Baltimore food/drink scene. I was particularly interested in trying some of their wines, as they boasted a solid selection of natural wines (which apparently means the grapes are farmed organically and the wine is made without adding or removing anything in the cellar). I absolute loved the ambiance here! The interior reminds me of Japan with the wooden tables. I thought the bathroom was very unique. It had a wooden sliding door that you had to lock with a pin. I've never seen anything like it. The first wine I got - apple wine - was a bit of a fail. I didn't like it at all. I thought it would taste similar to a cider. It smelled good but the aftertaste is like rubbery. I asked the waiter for a recommendation for sweet wines. He said they didn't really have sweet wines, but he recommended the fig and cardamom spritz. I want to come back here because of it! I visited on a Saturday afternoon for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the place. It has like picnic style tables in the outdoor area. Very pretty and surrounded by plants. There are cute lights that light up at night. I did not enter the indoor place so I only stayed outdoors. They have an array of drink options. I tried the white wine, pink, and red. I really love the vibe of this bar and the concept especially with the food from ChaChis but I think that the fact you cannot get any cocktails other than their batched ones is kind of silly. I also find their staff to be really stand offish and just overall people that shouldn't be in hospitality. And I am saying this as a full time bartender at an upscale cocktail bar. I understand batched cocktails and I understand the reason behind them. However, to open a bar without other options is a bit weird. And I'm not saying they should have a fully stocked bar but you can't genuinely look me in the face and say I can't have a vodka soda or a spirit on the rocks. I've driven out to Faddensonnen 5 times so far. The first time I came, an hour before close, we we're having a drink on the patio and the bartenders turned the lights off and played snoring noises loudly over the speakerphone to get us to leave. This would have been funny if we were staying past close, but an hour before close they could have let us know they were hoping to close and we would've been fine with it. Not only that but they then proceeded to tell us if we wanted to stay we would have to go to their upstairs bar which was only accessible by stairs and we were hosting someone who uses a wheelchair. We all wanted to stay and our friend was gracious enough to insist that she tried her best on the stairs so we could stay and enjoy our drinks. The next three times I came, they were closed 2 hours early. The most recent time I came, 2 hours before close, their drinks were good and the bartenders were very friendly. It's a good place, and maybe it depends what bartenders are working. But almost every time I've gone they've been closed far before closing time, or they've pushed us out without having the courtesy of a conversation first. I've worked in the food and bar industry for 6+ years, and while it can be a very tough industry to work in, you should still treat your customers with respect. I'll come back, and I definitely recommend you check them out, as some of their bartenders are amazing and their drinks are good. But with as many bad experiences as I've had I had to leave a review. Also either provide accessibility for disabled folx or teach your staff to not be ableist. read more

They had a very good selection of beers & ciders, and I enjoyed both the hot and cold ciders. You go in to the taproom to order. They also have an area upstairs that I didn't go to, but I think that's where you go if you want food. The downstairs area had snacks limited to bags of chips, etc. so I didn't try the real food. This is a cute little spot located in the kitchen area. There are lots of wine and beer options and usually there is food as well since it is located closed to Larder. The ambience is really nice and there's plenty of outdoor seating. I feel like the prices are pretty average for wine, my class was $11, but I am disappointed that they automatically add a 20% tip when charging you at the front. While I understand wanting to tip, 20% is a lot for pouring some thing into a glass. I would much rather them allow me to tip what I feel is adequate (I would definitely still tip, but $14 for a small glass of wine feels a bit ridiculous). It would be better if they either asked you a percent, or at least made it clear that they are automatically adding 20% to your bill. I will definitely ask about that if I come back, as I felt caught off guard when he said he was going to ring me up for $14 something but the menu said my wine was $11. read more

Nice little spot. Such an eclectic group of people were represented. Though I didn't eat, many of the people (in my large party) enjoyed it. Food was being prepped on the outdoor grill and seemed to be tasty. There was also a good truck located outside. I was able to taste some wines (wine list upstairs), and there was some tasty choices. The option for an Orange wine was pretty interesting. Overall not your typical wine selection. Bartenders seemed to be very knowledgeable and friendly. Overall, good atmosphere. Cozy setting on the first floor. Second floor is a little more open. Overall vibe is definitely hipster. Good to experience at least once. On a hot day in Baltimore after exploring and walking quite a bit, I stopped for a drink at Fadensonnen. I thought their wine choices were interesting, definitely not your standard wines. I had a glass of the Lucy Margaux "3 Colors," which was great. There was outdoor beer garden looking area (with long picnic tables) and an adjacent inside bar with about 8 bar stools (where I enjoyed my drink). There were other areas though - a wine bar somewhere? I know I wasn't the only person that was confused, because one else came into the bar where I was sitting and asked where the wine bar was. Very cute area. We stopped by for a pop-up they were having with Deuki Hong of Sunday Bird x Ekiben, and before the event started had some cider with Japanese whisky and a fruit beer cocktail. Drinks were pretty tasty at $10 each, and the food for the pop-up was good. They have various events in their courtyard which are definitely worth checking out!! This is one of my favorite places in the city. 10/10 spot all around. The space is beautiful: a large courtyard area with vines and flowers along the walls, fitted with long picnic tables and a covered roof (that is also enclosed and heated in the winter) and an indoor second floor area that can be accessed from the courtyard with plenty of seating and a bar. Faden offers a decent selection of natural wines and beers so if that is your thing that is definitely the place to go, but any wine and beer lover can enjoy their time here. It's a perfect space to be with friends in the spring and summer months especially since it's very pleasant to sit outside. I love bringing people from out of town here because they are always impressed. While faden doesn't offer food, they do have ChaChi's which is also accessible from the courtyard area and their food is good! That's for another review though ;) read more

The ambience is perfect for a day or evening when the weather is nice! A cute biergarten with an indoor taproom option (darker) as well as a sake lounge (darkest). We were here while it was raining, but the roof covered us adequately. The only star taken away was because I wish there were more food options--they have "hippie nachos" and tempeh vegan options, and not much more (unless I couldn't find them). There was a Filipino food truck outside later, which helped, and smelled super good. I feel blessed that Baltimore finally has a natural wine bar (and sake) that feels as cozy as the other locations maintained by Lane and Company. In 2017, my SO and I started ordering bottles of natural wine from NYC, so seeing the same winemakers (Cornelissen, Bichi, Rkatsiteli, etc.) here was exciting and simultaneously dangerous for our bank accounts.. If you wanna go for an eccentric and affordable bottle of wine, get the Old Westminster Piquette (if still available!), the color alone is stunning. Our first visit we enjoyed a bottle of Pesnot La Bohème and got the tofu misozuke. Very impressed. Second visit we had half-priced hot sake and it was earthy and filling. read more

Super-secret and minimalist location Inside of what looks like an apartment building but is actually just awesome. There is an upstairs wine bar with food and a downstairs beer garden that is semi outdoors but warm in the winter with sandwiches and small plates. Two of us came here for beer last night. This is a small dark place and for me, it did not feel cozy or inviting. We did order two really good beers, one German, one American, and headed over to Larder to eat. Perhaps the best feature of the Fadensonnen / Larder marriage is the shared beer garden space betwixt both places. There is family-style seating with heating and a transparent vinyl curtain for warmth. This looks like a great place and perhaps we will head back in warmer weather to check out the scene here. read more

I've been here a few times now to dine/chill outside with a few drinks, once to try the sake bar upstairs, and once to hang inside the downstairs bar. I prefer the outdoor area, as I'm more of a wine/beer drinker and enjoy beer gardens in general. The space, both inside and outside, is gorgeous, especially the patio and the downstairs bar. The beer and wine list is excellent and changes often. I was most recently here during the pandemic. Four of us snagged an empty table and ordered a round, as well as some food from Larder. Everything they are doing made me feel safe, but I do wish there was a partition on the long tables, or signage about distancing at tables. Because sure enough, a group of three sat at the other end of my table. That did not leave enough space between my group and the other. However, it's not Fadensonnen's fault that other people are more careless. And during non-pandemic, this would have been totally normal and I wouldn't have cared. I suppose a "no more than five people to a table" rule or reservation time slots could help eliminate this problem. Our beers were crisp and chilled and the dinner from Larder was super good and reasonably priced (I had a salad bowl). Fadensonnen is a great place to: hang out with friends, bring people from out of town, read alone with a glass of wine, try a new drink... the list goes on. I can't wait to enjoy Fadensonnen as intended when the pandemic is over. read more

I read an article about this place that made it seem really cool. We sat in the upper section which had a cozy feel. The service was very slow and we got conflicting info about whether we had to order at the bar or from the table, but everyone was very nice. The drink selection is kinda small and mediocre. We ordered a few small plates from the top floor. One of them was the figs with amaro, but they only had one fig left and told us it would be on the house; afterwards we looked at the receipt and we were still charged $10 for the amaro even though it was about a tablespoon in two tiny cups and was supposed to be included with the fig plate of $14. read more

This was one of the top culinary experiences of my life. Anyone living in or visiting Baltimore should treat themselves to an evening here. You walk in through a lovely outside Biergarten that serves as a courtyard to three individual shops. To the right is Larder, a lunch restaurant that actually provides the food you can order at Fadensønnen. To the left you can either enter a rustic cellar to try their beers, or you can go upstairs to enjoy natural wines and sake. Even before you're seated, you can't help but be overwhelmed for a minute by the immaculately curated minimalistic Scandinavian-inspired design. Beautiful hand-carved stools, eclectic vases, large wooden rafters. I have a number of food restrictions including gluten free and vegan, so I was shocked at how much of the menu I was able to have. The menu itself does not specify allergen friendly items, but the staff was incredibly knowledgeable about all ingredients. We ordered the pickles (which were wonderful and made of a variety of unorthodox veggies), the hummus which is packed full of fresh herbs from their roof and bursting with flavor, the mushroom patê which was earthy and creamy, the miso-soaked tofu (the serving is so tiny that you might think it's a joke, but one minuscule corner from the cube is enough to explode flavor in your entire mouth), and the cacao cashew crème (which is delightfully indulgent and full of unexpected flavor profile from the garnish of olive oil). Our server was also very knowledgeable about the flavor profiles of the sake and was able to recommend two different varieties that were both delicious. Then there are tons of outdoors spaces and tables (heated now), that are going to be so amazing to hang out at when things get a bit warmer. It is a true pleasure to be in the space at Fadensonnen. Upstairs they have a quiet candle-lit wine bar and downstairs a rustic bar with beer on tap and a tented beer garden. So far I've been to the wine bar a couple of times. Their wine selection is really interesting; they stock mostly natural wines but they vary from a more traditional taste to that ultra-fermented and earthy taste you get from a 0/0 wine. They also have a nice collection of sakes -- truly a unique feature in Baltimore -- and pop-up food that changes regularly. I'm excited to spend some time in their beer garden; it has heat lamps and blankets, and it looks very cozy! The staff at Fadensonnen are also extremely pleasant and knowledgeable, and in total the experience they create is relaxing, enjoyable and practically meditative -- although I suspect it'll become less so as their popularity grows. Stopped by here on a Friday night because they were offering an onigiri pop up! There is a courtyard area that is shared with Larder, who was also having a pop up at the time so of course I had to order food from both places. I was worried about finding a seat on a Friday evening but there was a small patio table open when we got there, and then we were able to move to one of the larger shared picnic tables. I ordered cocktails from the upstairs area - a hot toddy and apple highball. Drinks were strong! The apple highball was more alcohol and less apple than I was expecting so it was hard to finish. I really enjoyed the hot toddy though! My friend got a shochu highball and said it was super refreshing! I hope they continue the pop up collaborations because the onigiris that we ordered were amazingly delicious. VERY CIVILIZED...I went there yesterday evening shortly after opening so I could get a feel for the place before it became crowded, I instantly fell in love with the minimalist decor, it felt almost otherworldly, the minimal electronic music playing really completed the effect. My friend and I sat at the bar upstairs and were served by a tall bartender with a manbun, he was extremely knowledgeable and explained things in a very straightforward, soft spoken manner that I found effective yet unintimidating. We ordered a few small plates, the Mushroom Pate was delicious and just the right texture and the cheeseboard was very good, we also ordered the pickled vegetables, which we found very bland, however the real standout was the fabulous bread! Its dark and crusty and I could eat it all day long, It seems as If I may be house made. Food and drink is a little on the pricey side for Baltimore but you really are getting a quality product and you can order the wine in half pour size which is only $3.50 during happy hour which allowed us to try several different wines. My only real complaint would be slow service both on being served and on waiting for food, especially given that the menu items require a only a small amount of preparation. I recognize that the staff focuses on non-rushed individual service which I think is great, but I do hope they can find a balance to speed up service. If it were possible to give them 4.5 stars I would, I had a very good time and left the place with a bit of extra knowledge thanks to our bartender. Came to Fadensonnen with a group of friends on a weekday at 8 PM and it was bumpin'. I found parking easily right outside. Fadensonnen is a wine bar that has food options from other vendors. Tables are long so you can come with a group of 10 and no reservation required. They specialize in natural wines which I'm not too familiar with but I opted for a glass of orange wine which tasted like a dry white to my uncultivated palette. They even played the birthday song on overhead speakers for our friend which was so kind! I like the vibe here and will be back to try food and beer. read more
