Dr. Chavez helped diagnose my eye disease Fuchs Dystrophy. At first I was skeptical that I even had the disease. My left eye was bothering me so bad where I could not sleep. Come to find out I can't cry out of that eye and there are no endothelial cells. so no more contacts and only glasses. as long as I take my drops i am good. read more

Found my new eye doctor for life here. Dr. Melendez and her staff were great. I've had issues with wearing contacts (crazy itching/eye irritation) for about 10 years now. Dr Melendez not only gave me some possible causes and things I could pick up at the drugstore but also sent me home with several contact samples to try. Yesterday was the first time in 10 years that I was able to wear contacts the whole day and not want to claw my eyes out. But Dr. Chavez and his team made the experience really enjoyable. Dr. Chavez was very friendly and easy to talk to and he was very careful not to over-prescribe me and explained everything that he was doing, why, and how that would help me. I've been having trouble trying to find a pair of contacts that fit me for years and Dr. Chavez worked with me to help me find the right fit. I've been coming here since I moved to Austin two years ago, but never got around to writing a review. Since I just had yet another great appt I figured it's time to post! It's easy to get in for an appointment and the staff is always efficient and really polite. Exams are very thorough- they have cool imaging technology that lets you see a picture of the retina and nerve and blood vessels and who knows what else. They explain everything to you and make sure all your questions are answered. Dr. Melendez took the time to explain why it's so important to change your contacts regularly without making me feel embarrassed, and I am now one step closer to keeping my eyeballs healthy for the rest of my life! read more

Eye capitol was my first visit to an optometrist in Austin. As a college student, I needed to visit an office where I could get high quality service without breaking my wallet. The staff is great and very patient with you when making an appointment and talking about your insurance, or prices. The coupon on yelp is definitely worth it and you should use it if your insurance doesn't cover anything! Dr. Chavez is extremely helpful at explaining your vision problems, and he listens to everything you have to say or complain about. He takes his time and will triple check your vision results until he is sure your prescription is spot on. I highly recommend him!!!!! I got contacts and glasses in this visit, and the staff was extremely patient with me picking out glasses and asking about prices and what best fit your type of face. Visited Dr.Chavez recently for my first vision exam in several years. The staff are friendly, patient and very considerate. I was unsure about my visual insurance coverage and the staff spent a significant amount of time helping me find out what my payment options were. Once I arrived at the office, I was pleased with how quickly and efficiently I was moved through the office. My paperwork was processed in front of me and I saw Dr.Chavez immediately after that. He was polite and very knowledgeable about eye health and contact lenses and answered all of my questions patiently and googled visuals and fact charts to give me more data. I stopped by this office one day, because I had lost a piece to my eye glasses. Talk about friendly and helpful. I was very impressed. Its very close to my job and I felt at ease here. I am fairly new to Austin and I tell you if I made an appointment for eye wear and exam in North Austin where I live I would fight traffic and would need to leave work early or come in late. This works so well for me. But it helps so much when you enter an office and tearted with great care even though you just stopped by for quick services that you could be directed to other serbices.
