I had a great experience here! The staff was extremely helpful from the get-go! I had questions and they were answering/helping via email weeks before my appointment. I was seen on time and were all very pleasant. Dr. Chavez also attempted to explain to me my insurance and my options which is great! Most doctors finish what they are supposed to do and hand you off to other staff but he made sure he walked us all the way to the front and did as much as possible. Everyone is so friendly and I would recommend them to anyone. I was really happy with the service. Even picking up my glasses was awesome. OMG!!! My dad broke the arm off his glasses. So I brought him in to see if they can be fixed so that he can have them that same day and they got him set up with new frames and lenses for a great price and the tech worked his butt off to fix his old glasses. We had a fantastic experience here! Since we already have glasses, this was really just a quick check up so we could get new glasses and make sure our perscriptions were still accurate. Dr. Chavez is very personable! He was very thorough but got us in and out of the exam quickly. What really took a while was the process of picking out our new specs. I've been wearing the same ones for a couple of years and I love them, but Stephanie took her time and gave us honest opinions about what looked good. If that weren't enough, she ordered two pairs of frames in different colors so I could see them fore I committed. I googled inexpensive eye exam because my current insurance doesn't cover vision and ran across Eye Capitol. The reviews sold me, so I made an appointment. OMG. This place is great! Dr. Chavez was awesome, friendly and personable and spent more time with me than any other eye doctor I've been to. (Um, and I've had Lasik. I don't remember them being this attentive with me!) I'm so impressed. It was affordable, and I felt really confident and good about my exam, the prescription I received and in being able to ask and get answers to questions about my vision. Warning: I am an eyeglass enthusiast. Most people go to the eye doctor twice: once for an exam, and once to pick up their order. I have to say, I probably visit Eye Capitol 4x a year at least. Prescription sunglasses, contacts, frames, and even non-script sunglasses: I get them all here. I mostly deal with Stephanie, the head optician here so this part is for her: She is meticulous, a perfectionist, and will not let you leave without being satisfied. She is passionate about her job and the field, and it shows. She will also be straight with you ask her opinion between frames and colors. She does everything she can do get you the best deal possible and it always great and pleasant to see. Dr. Chavez himself is amazing, though I only tend to deal with him once a year for my exam. He is thorough in his exam, but doesn't waste your time. He is really friendly and always remembers my husband and me when we come in for our exams. In addition to Dr. Chavez and Stephanie, the rest of the staff including the people who deal with appointment taking and payments are always friendly and sweet. I seriously have not been in a better office in terms of customer service and atmosphere. Everyone really seems to like each other, which is a big deal to me. The frame selection itself is amazing and has recently expanded. I highly recommend Eye Capitol for their selection and staff. read more

I found this optometrist office through Yelp and could not have been more pleased! I was able to call and be seen within the hour. The secretary was sweet and the office very nice and clean. Dr. Chavez was extremely helpful and personable. I didn't even need to spend the extra money to get prescription eyedrops, he gave me several different eye drops to help with my infection. Pretty good deal as far as the yelp coupon goes... however they didn't tell me it was a $150 or so total for both eye exams... the coupon only covered one and I thought that's all I needed. But I wanted contacts as well so that exam was a whole extra bill. They also never followed up with me about my prescription once I decided which contacts I wanted to order. I had to call several times to get my prescription sent to me, when they were supposed to call me after 5 days. Dr. Chavez was extremely nice, extremely knowlegable, and even funny. My exams were painless and thorough. He even showed me my eye exam results and imagery, including an explanation, which was very interesting. He answered my questions very professionally and explained options and preventative measures towards eye care. You can tell he spends his funds on top of the line machinery and generous contacts trials, and the staff was all very friendly and laid back. Cool place. Dr. Chavez is nice and smart and seems to actually love his job and care about his patients! He explained everything to me in terms that I could understand and allowed me to ask any questions I had. I'm new to Austin and wanted to find an optometrist not too far from downtown who was highly recommended. Dr. Melendez and staff did not disappoint. I was promptly taken back for my eye exam after completing the new patient forms. The technician performed a few tests and asked about my medical history before I was seen by the doctor. I only had to wait about 3 minutes to be seen by Dr. Melendez after being put in a room. She arrived, greeted me kindly, and asked if I was experiencing any eye issues that she should know about. She then proceeded to thoroughly examine my eyes using multiple tests and examination tools. After each test, she would explain what she was looking for and how my eyes checked out. She made recommendations as to which glasses would work best for me, but never pressured me to make a decision on the spot. I was really impressed with how friendly, patient, thorough, and knowledgeable Dr. Melendez and staff were.
