They significantly raised my rate after 2 months! It is typically difficult to find a place to park and I've witnessed 2 accidents here because of the tight parking. This is not to mention that their hours are awful. You have to take time off of work to go to your unit if you're a 9-5er. Avoid this place! read more

I find the staff at the location good. The only good thing about the facility is the location. I commend Extra Space management by requiring all issues be dealt with at the store level. Unfortunately with that responsibility does not come the authority to deal with issues. This building is about 10 stories tall and full of storage units. They have only a handful of carts. I've complained to local management about it and they say that people leave them in upper floors (which is not my problem). I've said that they need more carts because my quick in/out trips takes 2-3 times as long because I have to find a cart. They reply that they have asked for more carts but have been denied the rest. The manager told me that he moved three carts down the night before (this was about 10:30am on a Monday). Three carts for hundreds of storage units?? This company makes a killing off of this location but they invest nothing in it. You pay a premium amount for the location but they don't follow up with the service. This isn't a hit on the local team - they all do fine. The issue is that they aren't provided the funds to properly service the facility. When asked if I could speak to the District Manager I was told no. I was told calling corporate wouldn't work because they'd just be routed back to the store. So it's a waste of time to try to resolve the issue since you can only speak to the store staff and they aren't empowered to solve the problem. Note that my visit was at 10:30am on a Monday. Mine was the fifth vehicle. Two of the others were staff. There were no carts available. I walked through six floors of the building trying to find a cart. I would advise against this location until they either hire the staff to walk the floors collected the supposed carts that are left (which I couldn't find) or until they buy 10 or so more carts. Finding a cart should not be a problem in a facility of this size. read more

Inconsistent access. Staff will lock up early, claiming the business is closed. Clearly the gate is closed to vehicles at 5:30, but office hours are printed on the front door as "open until 6:00pm." Don't believe it. read more

DO NOT STORE WITH Extra Storage location #776. Here's how this location handles customer needs: Upon reaching out to the store, I was connected with June who was very helpful and understanding our needs. I explained that we currently have shipments arriving on-site as frequent as once a week to our unit. Most packages are toilet paper and paper towels at 20 or so lbs per box, but some do go up to around 60lbs per box. After reviewing our contract it outlines "excessive weight" but does not provide am identify of the threshold for what qualifies as excessive. I spoke with June about potentially adding an additional rate to cover packages up to 65lbs, but was placed on hold. Upon returning to the call, I was connected with Leah, who began the conversation very defensively as if we had be burdening her with our shipments. She raised her voice to me over 3 times during the call and would not let me speak WHATSOEVER. She kept repeating that is was not their job to deliver items and they'll just start returning to sender, out of spite. She then explained that the contract explicitly says 50lbs, which it does not, and besides all of that, we were willing to PAY MORE for delivering packages. Not only has the staff spoken to me in condescending and rude tones, they have gotten into verbal altercations with the staff due to their aggressive demeanor. Our business currently has contracts with over 3 units across various states and is looking to expand our contracts to our new markets in LA, San Diego, Seattle, New York, and Pittsburg, but require specific needs and unique requests outside of a traditional customer and have great support at your Chicago location. I'd still recommend Extra Space Storage, just not this location. read more

This is a scam outfit , get a deal then next the rent goes up .I started at 100 for a 6x6 space and with in 4 months they were taking 160 out of my auto pay. I was out of the country and only when my renter told me , you got another notice your storage was going up to 190. What a rip off and now the hrs are shorter, a pleasant person behind the desk told me we put it in the contract that due to factors we increase the rent when we need, What factors... Completely unreliable and cannot be trusted. On moving day, I was not able to enter the facility or access my unit. I tried entering my code on the pinpad several times, and when I finally called their customer service, I was told that all their pinpads were not working. The only solution they offered was that I return the next day. And this was AFTER I arrived at their facility and was sitting outside in a rented UHaul with all of my things in the truck waiting to be unloaded. I told them I couldn't return the next day because I was renting a truck and they offered no other solution. I had planned for weeks to move on that day, working on a tight schedule, and there was absolutely no support from their staff. It was honestly one of the most infuriating and stressful experiences of my life. I had to find a different storage company on the spot so I could move as planned and I am still trying to get my lease cancelled and to get my refund! When their staff did follow up with me, they did only to interrogate me on how/why the pinpad didn't work and offered absolutely no apologies for the massive inconvenience they'd caused or offer a refund. I would NOT rent a storage unit here again. The hours for accessing your unit are inconvenient (essentially business hours, beginning at 9:30). The units themselves have multiple pipes running through them and have awkward angles instead of being rectangularly shaped like all other rooms. The manager Jesse is blase and uninterested. He gave the impression that he didn't care about your concerns and didn't make an effort to have pleasant customer exchanges. read more

Nothing could have been easier than leasing storage space here. I signed up online, a representative called me immediately afterwards to confirm move in date, when I was late to arrived, they called to confirm everything was on track, and when I finally did arrive, they had a fully computerized registration/insurance/leasing process that was quick and painless. They have an electronic payment option which makes things really convenient and they have a number of measures in place to warn you if there is the possibility of the company foreclosing on your belongings. The only drawbacks on this place is that it's a bit pricey and the hours are not great. But the staff is polite and competent, the location is easily accessible, and I have can relax knowing that nothing will happen to my belongings. I'd recommend this place to anyone in the DC metro area. read more

Rented a 10"x10" space for 3 moths due to location. As a storage facility they did what they are supposed to and items were secure for 3 months so I can't complain! Just some negatives that others have mentioned: - hours are limited - loading/unloading can be tricky due to other people moving items. - ALWAYS check first that they are open before scheduling a move. The day I decided to move in they were closed for a meeting until noon and this was not on their website. read more

After just four months, our rent was increased without prior notice. The regional manager was unable to explain why we had not been notified in advance as specified in the agreement or tell us how often or how much the rent would be increased going forward. In addition, we found mildew in our unit after being reassured that this had never been an issue at the location before. The location and regional management were slow to respond, rude, and unconcerned with addressing either issue. We ended up moving everything to a new unit with a different storage company which has so far been professional, clean, and reliable. read more

This location has serious pest control issues. When I was storing my furniture there one of the employees told me they had rat problems on the first floor and part of the second floor, but that the forth floor was fine where I was storing my furniture. When I returned in two months to pick up my furniture, I found that everything in my storage space had been INFESTED WITH BEETLES. Beetles and dead beetle shells throughout every box, all over the furniture, and all through my clothes. It took me a long time to clean the beetles out from my things, wash all my clothes and through out a few things I couldn't save. Afterwards, I learned that the insurance that Extra Space sells doesn't cover pests, and the manager said Extra Space couldn't be held responsible for another person who had brought the beetles into their storage space and infested the entire floor. In short, the pest control issues at this location are abysmal, and I strongly recommend not storing anything of value there. read more

I was attended by Latasha in the office. She was waiting for my arrival and gave a very personal customer service since the day I called asking for a unit. She was very kind and showed the elevators and helped me find my unit. I had no problem finding carts, I used 4 which were parked in the entrance of the alley door. They provided a lock with combination and were willing to facilitate it to my movers if I could not physically be there. The storage was very clean, just painted and is in a great location. We could access with the truck and used the ride in cargo. My 8x10 unit had a light bulb which worked. This was a great begining. Was hesitant to deal with this company as the reviews online were really not that great. In addition, I decided to call the main number to find out about pricing etc. and found the sales rep to be very pushy, to the point where I chose not to go ahead with it because of the unpleasant experience on the phone. Shortly after, someone from the U street location called me and invited me to come in and take a look around the facility, and said I could sign up directly with them at the location if I liked it, instead of dealing with the phone reps. Went in and was greeted by the new manager, Danny. He showed me around the facility and gave me options of units I could have. Was very helpful and friendly. I signed up right there and then and have been moving my things in since. The only negative I have so far about the facility is that where I am located, on the 2nd floor, air flow isn't that great, so it's hot and can be a little stifling. But overall, I feel safe in there, building appears to be well maintained, and alot of people use this facility, there are several people there when I am there. Which hasn't caused a problem with the elevators yet, but i prefer the place to be busy than lonely. So far, if you live in NW DC area, I would recommend. read more

Beware, I almost agreed to store property at this facility but the lease they provided permits the company to amend the terms without any agreement of the renter. This seems to grant the company the right to raise rents whenever it chooses. Their manager Juan informed me that they may exercise this right usually after 3-4 months of rent. I asked to edit this provision and was informed by both Juan and a member of the MD corporate office that the lease is "as-is" and no edits are permissible. There are other issues that influenced me not to agree to their lease, including certain disclaimers of responsibility for property damage and that they require renters to obtain insurance. Based on these reasons I will bring my business elsewhere. read more

I was very disappointed in the service I received from this location. The majority of the employees are very helpful with exception to one Assistant Manager. His behavior was alienating and when I complained to the corporate office their concern was more about my account being paid up, which it was. Even the hours are not very accommodating I was in a rush to find a spot. If I had known that the corporate customer service was as pathetic as the one assistant manager I encountered I would have never gone to Extra Space Storage. I'd recommend avoiding this place. I agree with much of what the other reviewers have posted: this place could be great due to it's location and the friendliness of the staff, but the hours and ever-increasing monthly fee completely negate any of the good. As another poster mentioned, this place is only open during typical "office hours" during the week and on a limited weekend schedule - an almost impossible schedule if you work a "regular" job. They have no open hours after 5pm and they lock the entry gate 30 minutes prior to closing time. I've been a unit renter for nearly two years and they've now jacked up my monthly rate $10/mo six times (started at $180/mo for an 8x8 unit and now pay $240/mo for the same unit). All in all, I find I'm consistently displeased with this place and am moving my stuff out this weekend. I've opted to forgo the convenience of the location for something less expensive and more frequently accessible... read more

I've had a good experience. Everything has gone as I would expect them to in my dealings with this company so far. When I first came a polite guy showed us around the facility and showed us unit options. We rented one of their smaller units and set up automatic payment from my credit card, so bill paying hasn't been annoying. We go to our unit maybe once a month to take or leave stuff and it's really easy to access at any time of day. I am moving to a bigger place in a few weeks so I went in today to let them know that I would be canceling my rental on a specific date. They canceled my automatic payment and asked if I wanted to pay the last month's prorated amount (since I'm canceling mid-month). I haven't had any surprises or problems so far so all-in-all I recommend this business to others who need a storage unit. The only thing I can think of is that after a few months of rental, I got a letter in the mail saying that they would soon increase the monthly rate for my size unit. That was unfortunate but not unreasonable that a storage facility would need to raise rates a bit every so often to keep up with inflation, just like apartments do. read more
