We rented 2 units on the ground floor at the CubeSmart on 3179 Draper Dr., Fairfax, VA 22031, from 2022 to 2025. We found a live racoon in one of the units trying to escape while moving out. The racoon apparently lived in the unit for a while as we found many of our stored contents in the unit chewed and destroyed by feces and urine smell. The manager at the CubeSmart was helpful in filing our insurance claim as we signed up for SureSmart Protection Plan for $2,000. Now a month later the insurance company denied our claim and does not respond. Here is the frustrating part: they denied our claim alleging the damage was excluded from insurance coverage because it was done by "rodents". When I reiterated that the damage was done by a *racoon* (we sent picture of the racoon we found in our unit and feces-damaged furniture and equipment to support our claim) and a racoon is not a "rodent" the senior claims representative at the insurance company denied the claim again citing the content was not covered because it is "animals, birds or fish"!? When I reminded that the damaged contents were instead office equipment and furniture destroyed by racoon and sent a movie we took of the racoon trying to escape from my CubeSmart unit they stop communicating. So after paying $12/month for SureSmart Protection Plan for 2 and 1/2 years which would have defrayed a fraction of total damage I am left with no coverage and no communication. While the manager at the CubeSmart has been helpful the fact is a RACOON got into my CubeSmart storage unit; destroyed my stored equipment and furniture and my SureSmart Protection Plan did not cover anything. I do not recommend this place as their SureSmart Protection Plan did not work for me. read more

1. About 3+ years ago; someone backed into my unit and management closed it down for over a month - it was locked down and unusable. i was informed about 2 weeks later, but could not even get in to check damage or safety of my contents. 2. i was eventually moved to an equal size unit (10X30 ft) and charged about $100-200 more, with flimsy excuses of my special discounted unit. I was given no recourse or appeal, 3. since then my rent was increased from $420/mo to 890/mo. only explanation was because their new competition was charging more and therefore cubesmart could go up without fear of losing business! i am expecting another increase by early next year that will take me over $1000/mo. 4. I am an invalid and am unable to drive or even walk without fear of falling. I believe management has been taking advantage of my handicap and my inability to effectively protest my treatment of this series of events that were clearly not my fault. i just checked Cubesmart-924 on-line and noted their retail advertisement of a 10x30 ft unit was $120 less than what i have been paying all year. 5. Over the years, I have come to expect reduced useful access hours due to inoperative gates, personnel who never seem to be there when i need help, and my fear of vagrants/intruders after dark. 5. Bottom line: a. I am a long time customer -- 20-25 years or so, even renting multiple units from time to time.. I would have expect privileged treatment, not what i got! b. I can not recommend Cubesmart to my friends. I am only staying because of my handicapped condition and have little choice. Seems like they play predatory pricing games here. I reserved a unit online a week in advance and showed up on move in day. In the office, I asked a few questions, and the guy offered to show me a larger unit than the one I reserved. We went to go look at it, and then came back downstairs. Then I asked him how much the larger unit cost, and he said it was quite a bit more expensive than the smaller unit I reserved, so I told him I would just stick with the smaller unit on my reservation. At that point, the guy told me that he had already cancelled my original reservation and that the prices had gone up significantly in the past week, so the new rate was around $20 more per month. So the bottom line is that this guy cancelled my reservation without me asking him to and then wanted more money. I called their corporate number and they said the district manager would call me, but he never called back. So I got a unit somewhere else down the street. Very bad experience here, cannot recommend it. read more

The only negative is that it doesn't seem climate-controlled like they advertised. Every time I go it's freezing in the unit, like 40 degrees. If climate-control is important to you, you might ask at what temperature they turn on the heat and then (in the summer) the AC. read more

This is a CAUTIONARY TALE to any and all consumers looking for storage space in a temperature controlled facility. I live in a large house with a lot of space and a walk in closet that is the size of most people's bedroom. As a person who travels frequently I was looking to store my furs and vintage evening gowns in a facility that is temperature controlled 24 hours. I was given a unit in the lower level and thought nothing of it until I removed my belongings to another facility...It was only then that I learned that everything was moldy. Anything that was white was now dark yellow. Even the tags on the new garments that were white turned brown. My silk sofa and expensive purses were stained and moldy. There was no leek, no water damage, just condensation in a unit from an environment that was/is not temperature controlled. There is no way for units that are 10x7, which is a decent size to get the necessary air circulating. The facility charges the consumer insurance, in the event that something were to happen to their possessions . What they don't tell you is that it doesn't cover negligence by the company - - that being CubeSmart. Unless there's water damage they will not cover the cost. The staff is very unhelpful and I am out thousands of dollars. My advice to anyone looking to store clothing or anything other than construction material to reconsider. I would hate to see someone else go through the devastating financial loss that I suffered read more

When we first started using them two years ago we were told that the storage also came with the use of their truck. Finally tried to take them up on it but now it turns out you have to pay a rental fee and can only use it to move in your stuff but not to move out your stuff. That change in policy really left a bad taste in my mouth given that we've been great paying customers for two years. Very disappointing that they did not honor their original policy. read more

SO EXPENSIVE We were told the free first month was not available, and rental for one month is $289 for a space the size of 1/2 a one car garage! The attendant will talk your ear off. Even the locks have an extra 50% markup. What a rip off. Go somewhere else or pay through the nose. read more

It was so easy to reserve a storage unit by calling the number I found on Yelp! even though it was 5 pm on a Thursday night. I was packing like a fiend, because the office was going to close at 6, according to Yelp! Then, about 5:15, I get a call from Kevin, the general manager. He just wanted to let me know that he knew I was packing and that if I were a little late, that he'd be waiting for me -- HOW AWESOME IS THAT!!!!! I ended up being able to make it a little before 6, but he took his time with me explaining their very user-friendly system to their very clean facility. They had dollies available for me to move my stuff to the right unit. Temperature controlled, clean, very brightly lit -- I didn't feel unsafe at all, moving stuff into the night. I'm so glad I found this place, and I'm so grateful for the thoughtful and helpful manager I met! read more

Friendly and helpful staff--they let me see multiple units in order to find the best price and size for my needs. I had to move to a bigger unit and the process was seamless. Auto pay and insurance made my quick move much less stressful. They have clean facilities, good security, great hours for staff access and 24/7 for my own access. It was easy to reserve a loading dock and hey have plenty of carts around for moving things easily. Highly recommend! read more

Very clean and well-lit. The staff was always pleasant and helpful and responded to emails promptly. Stephanie helped us breeze through the initial processing, and the free truck usage (for 4 hours) to move in was a valuable benefit for us. Always plenty of carts and parking spaces available. For security, renters have to enter a code to both enter and exit the building. Pricing was competitive with other options nearby. Easy to set up autopay and paperless invoicing online. We rented a climate-controlled 7x10 on the 2nd floor for 9 months. If we ever need storage again this will be our first choice! read more

They both went out of their way to make things easy, and I felt they were honest and upfront about everything. They were very accommodating, and went over all the options for us which made us feel like they weren't out just to get our money. Not to mention their prices are extremely competitive! Finding storage units in this area at a reasonable price can be difficult. The folks that work here were super friendly and helpful, and the best part is you get a free box truck rental with your storage unit (okay it's actually $10 with a $100 deposit which you get back so it's almost free). You only get it for a 4 hour window, but for most people that should be plenty of time depending on where you are moving things from (if you are prepared and pack everything ahead of time). The units are all indoor and climate controlled, and everything is kept very clean. They have carts you can use to easily move things from vehicles into storage units. One piece of advice: Check their website before you go...the price they gave us was slightly higher than a special which was being advertised online... they gladly gave us the lower price. Once you get a contract, the monthly price is good for one year (we were told they do raise the rates at the end of one year but they keep it very low--I cannot verify that since we have not been there that long), and you can cancel at anytime. read more
