It's the safest & most secure storage facility in the area however the drive-in gate is inoperable or inaccessible more often than it is functioning and available for use. Being able to drive-in to offload into my storage unit was the main feature prompting me to rent a unit at this location and it's not something I'm frequently even able to utilize. read more

I've been renting here for a few months. They recommended me to move into a storage unit that did not fit all of my stuff. The day I moved in, it is over the weekend, I realized that the hallways were too narrow to get my mattress etc into my unit. Had to hold my other items elsewhere. No one was on site to assist with switching units AND their emergency line didn't work (can you imagine getting locked in a storage facility with no emergency line to call but 911, smh). I probably give Extra Space in El Segundo 2.5 stars. I would like to give it a higher ranking, because the resident manager is very sweet and helpful. She is a true professional and runs a tight ship here. But there are two major problems with this place (and they are not attributable to her at all): (1) The advertised price on the website and elsewhere does NOT include mandatory insurance that Extra Space Storage FORCES you to purchase from them. They do offer various levels of coverage, but even the lowest level of coverage is not cheap. And they tack that on to the monthly rental charge of the storage unit. This is a pretty lame and shady business practice. (2) There are never any available roller type carts at the facility. I was told that they are often missing, and sometimes stolen, and that you just have to walk around and hope to find one somewhere at the facility. I'm sorry, what?? That is absolutely asinine. And this is so easy to fix, people. You just keep the friggin' carts locked up in one place, and if someone wants to use one, you take their driver's license from them to hold until they bring the cart back. Boom. Problem solved. Why is this so difficult? Otherwise, the place is clean and appears well-run. I see from others that they had problems with burglaries and their possessions missing. I don't know if it's true, but I was told when I rented that they have had only one burglary in ten years. Just be aware of these issues. I will rent storage elsewhere next time. read more

Maintenance is an issue. Garage doors and elevators are constantly out of order and the district manager takes weeks to approve repairs. Apparently local storage places are the way to go...at least they don't have to wait for management approval on repairs. Public Storage was no better in my experience. The roof leaked soaking all my boxes, and they offered to comp a half of a month's rent. For the price you can do much better. Go locally owned. At least local owners have to face the wrath of their neighbors when they don't keep up their facilities. read more

He had our unit reserved, prepared and ready, provided us the info we needed, and we were moving items in the next day. Facility is very clean and convenient. Absolutely five star service! This place has a team that surely aims to please. The facility is clean and well kept. I see them monitor the building and when it came time for me to move, I had zero issues. They actually should have complained because I left a few items out by the trash can. I didn't know this was against the rules and was too far away to come back and clean so Mark (a sweetheart) told me not to worry he would take care of it for me. Now that's service! I have been a faithful client since 1989; for me having storage is a necessity, I live in a condo with NO storage. They CONSTANTLY raise your rent, like clockwork, EVERY 9 months. I have complained over and over and get nowhere. I am on a fixed Income and disabled; the increases are killing me. It used to mean something to be a long standing client, not to these people. TOTAL RIPOFF !! STAY AWAY FROM THESE THIEVES !! They have units burglarized all of the time. Their prices are way too HIGH compared to local competitors ! My unit had their insurance and when I was burglarized, the storage staff denied that I had purchased the insurance policy option even though it was clearly listed on my monthly invoices. The insurance company finally caved in after I had to hire a lawyer and then paid out NOTHING !! TOTAL CON ARTISTS AND RIPOFF EXPERTS !! Stay away from them and go to ANY of the many competitors. This clearly indicates that Extra Space Storage personal accessed private information while I was blocked from my unit. This facility maintains units that are less than the size they are telling you. I see what the other comments are saying and I have used a lot of other storage companies and so far Lisa & Andrew have been so great to work with. They have been up front with all cost and the place is very clean and well managed. In terms of carts I had no problems finding a cart at the facility. If people would put back the carts where it should be would it would not be a problem. So people do your homework and stop complaining. read more

Mark and Lisa at the El Segundo store had great prices, great attitudes and love what they do. These people want to help me store my stuff. Nice storage facility with close access to LAX -- important for me as I need my team to be able to access items for board meetings and events near the airport. Staff has always been friendly, cheerful, and most importantly, helpful. Parking hasn't been an issue for me, I guess because I come during off-peak hours, but the lot is a bit small (and on a hill, so keep an eye on your stuff so it doesn't roll). Great facility, super clean, and very easy to access. They have plenty of free "dollies" around the facility to help you move your stuff in and out. Customer service was really good. Mark was extremely nice and made the sign up process very easy. The one negative: They charge $13 a month for insurance, which they don't tell you about until you get there. If you have homeowners insurance you don't have to pay it but since most people don't carry their homeowner insurance info with them, you end up getting charged for it the first month and then can cancel it for future months. read more

After shopping around at all the different storage options, we decided on this one, and I am so happy we did! Mark greeted us warmly and helped us with kindness and efficiency. Within a half hour, we were all done and ready to start loading in our stuff! As he showed us around, he picked up little pieces of packing paper that had fallen on the floor after someone's load in... it showed me that he took great care of the place and that he really cares about keeping everything in good condition. Reasonably priced, clean, easy access, GREAT OPERATORS (Lisa and Mark), and very helpful. I was in a bind one day and Mark even helped me move things into my storage space. I had a great experience using the Extra Space Storage in El Segundo. Lisa, the Manager of this location is Amazing!! I was going out to California for a work assignment and needed to use her facility for a few weeks and the company that I was traveling across the country for kept changing the dates on me and Lisa was very patient and worked with me as the dates kept changing, She knew I lived in Maryland and that this was only a temporary reservation so it would have been easy for her to just say "screw it" and not bother trying to accommodate my changing schedule. What a poorly managed facility. The rear roll-up door is inoperable more than not, there are 4 carts for the entire facility - and they're LOCKED, so you can't use them after 6pm?!! Rediculous. However, they do consistently and timely increase the montly fees annually. I hate this place. I started off at $65 5 years ago, and am now at $100. What a joke. read more

BEWARE! The facility in El Segundo cost me dearly. In less than one year, they have been burglarized by thieves at least twice that I know of. I should have avoided this facility after reading in the news that this facility was burglarized a few months prior, but I thought they had learned from that experience and had improved their security with more cameras. (see link: http://www.dailybreeze.com/general-news/20130311/thieves-target-el-segundo-storage-facility-allegedly-resold-items-on-ebay) I lost very valuable possessions that I have not been able to recover as of today after filing the police report. The thieves picked the lock and cleverly stole items leaving the original boxes empty or partially full, and the contents of the unit mostly in its original position. So unless opened, the loss of the items wouldn't be noticed. On the day I discovered I was a victim of thieves, the Manager of facility was not cooperative and said she was "too busy" to check the monitoring videos until after several days later, which reduced my chances of catching the thieves and reporting any evidence to the police. Furthermore, the manager at first did not believe I was burglarized because she claimed that the locks cannot be picked unless they are broken/cut, so I researched and found evidence on Youtube on how easy the padlocks can be opened without breaking/cutting them. When I informed her of that, she said, "You can't believe everything on Youtube." What is worse is that I found out their facility only has video cameras in a very few sections, hence my unit was not video-monitored at all. I also wonder how the burglars knew I had come in the day before to the storage facility to store more stuff as no one else was there at the time (it was after hours). Luckily I noticed my items missing two days later. Other victims may take months to realize their items are missing. I removed the rest of my stuff from this facility the day after my discovery, and found another storage facility that is more secure and only allows people to access the storage during business hours when it is fully staffed (as opposed to Extra Space when any one who rents a unit there can come in after hours and take their time to steal from other units). In my opinion, the place is a shopping mall for thieves. read more

I had a smaller storage unit here in the past and now I currently have a larger one. The price stayed the same for the 2 years I used the small storage unit. However, the rent for the larger unit has already increased twice in one year. It seems that they know the customer is less likely to be moving from a larger unit so they use that thought to jack up the rent. This is the first storage unit I've ever rented, really good price, right next to work, super clean. When i came in the sales girl was very ill she was wiping things down with lysol wipes and sniffling and complaining how she shouldnt even be working because Shes sooo sick. I gave her antibacterial hand wipes and bought myself a bottle of Airborne. I still got sick. Apparently i didnt understand the rules and tried to get out of the unit at 10:10 and the doors wouldnt open. 30 minutes later the manager comes out with the angriest look on her face bangs on my window and starts to yell at me for waking her up and that im going to get evicted for not following the rules. This woman was yelling. I have a respiratory disability and i have a service animal to help me. The manager Lisa told me no animals and then asked/yelled if i have service animal papers.. I tried to explain you can't ask someone that.. Under federal law.. More yelling about how she can her manager told her she can.. Yiiiikes.
