So, I drove 45 minutes this morning just to get a bagel. No seriously. Ok, so here's the thing. When you grow up going to a place that has good bagels (see Corky and Lenny's in Cleveland or um, New York City) you're used to a certain level of. . . bagel-ness in your life. Guess what? Jacksonville has really, really, REALLY shitty bagels. Really. I know. I know. There are places in Jacksonville that say they sell bagels. Panera or Dunkin Doughnuts or a supermarket. Those aren't bagels. Trust me. Look, Jacksonville has some great food. Barbecue and seafood and stuff. Jacksonville sucks at bagels. And it's not just the bagels themselves. It's the stuff that goes on the bagels. You know, the spreads and the cream cheeses. Lox. How many places in Jacksonville sell lox? How many people in Jacksonville even know what lox is? Hence the dilemma. Because sometime you want, no NEED, a great bagel. With lox and cream cheese. Or whitefish. So at a party recently, while lamenting with another couple over the fact that you "just can't get a good bagel in Jacksonville!" the other gent said matter-of-factly "well there's a great place to get bagels in St. Augustine." Say what? Did he say St. Augustine? 400 year old town in Florida? Old town street filled with crappy t shirt stores and the oldest schoolhouse in the nation? That St Augustine? Yep. He claimed they had awesome bagels. Lox. Cream cheese. Oh and whitefish spread. Now, across the room at this party my beautiful wife's head snapped up. "Did someone just say whitefish spread??" she shouted. Which is actually a really weird thing to yell in the middle of a party filled with musicians and symphony staff. You'd expect a spontaneous concerto to break out. Not some woman raving about Jewish deli spreads. But rave she did. Well, we both did. Like kids at Christ-um-Hannukah, we were filled with joy. And questions. WhereisitwhatsitcalledwhataretherehourshowarethebagelsISTHEREREALLYWHITEFISH?!?!? The other couple was patient with us. They likely went through the same process. To find the great white gefilte fish of Northeast Florida. The awesome bagel shop. So today, armed with a dream and an address to plug into Google Maps, we departed. To seek out and eat to our little hearts content. And what did we find? A tiny little store in a strip mall. Not flashy on the outside. Next to a travel agent and a nail salon. But inside my friends? Inside? First. The smell. The smell of heaven. The smell of my people. Onions and meats and doughs. Mmmmmmmm. My wife got that whitefish spread that she's been seeking for 7 years. I had the lox and cream cheese on a plain bagel. Cuz I'm old school. And the taste? The taste? Oh.My.God. I think we had a religious experience. God came down. Sat next to me. And said. That's a pretty darn good bagel. Yes God. Yes it was. Please don't ask me to share. So. Now we know. Of a bagel place. A true bagel place. Within driving distance from our house. Small local bagel shop located in a shopping plaza. There are a few tables inside and a couple right outside. The menu is on the wall. The prices are very reasonable and the bagels fresh. I got a breakfast bagel and coffee. The bagel was soft and chewy just like it should be. The egg was fluffy but had no seasoning. No big deal though. I saw hot sauce and salt I could use. The coffee sits in a coffee dispenser and is self serve. It was not very good at all. It just tasted off almost sour. In fact I ended up not drinking it. This is definitely the best bagel shop in St Augustine. My word of caution though: once you start coming here, no other bagel will be good enough. Dunkin who? I literally can't eat a bagel anywhere else without disappointment. When you walk in, expect to be greeted by the staff as well as some fun, upbeat music (perfect morning music if you ask me). There are so many different bagel choices. They also have bialys which I LOVE and croissants which I also LOVE (do you see a pattern here?). In addition to many bread options, there are even more toppings options. Many different homemade cream cheese flavors (hello chive, my old friend) and eggs, bacon, cheese, even pork roll for you Jersey gals and guys. Guys... if you're looking for the best bagel you've had since that last time you visited NY or NJ, look no further. I'm a bit of a bagel and pasta snob which makes living in Florida difficult at times, but I feel so lucky to have stumbled across this place. We go out of our way to come here every time we're in the vicinity. The bagels are big, soft and doughy on the inside, and perfectly cooked on the outside. They have a wide selection of homemade spreads as well- my fav is the scallion cream cheese. Prices are very reasonable, service is friendly and efficient- give this place a shot! While their Bagels continue to be excellent, the continued failure to comply with the most basic CDC guidelines makes the Yelp summary laughable. Some of the food prep staff wore no masks; two others wore their masks below their noses. When I arrived this Sunday, the line was out the door, with more than 25 people inside (fire law violation as well?). Lastly, they now charge an unannounced "service fee" of about 4% when a credit card is used. With their prices going up, I'm going to find another source for Sunday bagels. read more

This place never disappoints. Been coming here for years. One of my fav bagel, sandwich, and wrap places. Turkey Friday Special, Waldorf Salad Wrap, Bagel with Lox is what I always recommend. Bagels are always soft and fluffy -- not sure why others said they are stale. Maybe theyre coming too late in the day? Not sure. I always go early and never had an issue. Best bagel shop in Florida I've found so far. Lots of options with bagels and spreads. Had the jalapeno bagel with egg and bacon that did not disappoint. Wife and kids each had a different bagel with different spreads. Tried them as well and loved them all. Normally don't like green olive spread, but this one was on point. Came in for an egg and cheese bagel. Was previously told they made fresh sandwiches. There are 8 egg sandwiches listed on the menu. What they don't tell you is that the only kind of egg you can have is scrambled. So I ordered scrambled...I received a microwaved tasteless egg patty (truly tasteless and no different than you'd get at any chain place). Their response is 'the eggs are fresh.' I'm a New Yorker and an Everything bagel lover, and was hoping for a great bagel experience as there are few choices in this area. They have three choices of Everything bagels that all LOOK fabulous as they are coated with 'everything'. Unfortunately the bagels are more of the 'dense, cakey style.' The wheat everything bagel is dry. The regular everything tastes more like plain dense bread. The best one is the Egg Everything, which has some flavor in the bagel part and is a bit less dry. If anything, make sure you get the bagel toasted-and if you like egg and cheese bagel sandwiches-skip this place-you'll be disappointed. Sorry guys-get a small burner and make some real egg sandwiches; microwaved eggs do not constitute 'freshly made egg and cheese sandwiches.' read more
