The Bee Sting
Scott W.

Bagels were great. Bee Sting is a winner, friends liked the Lox. Service was good. Fast. The inside gets cramped and a bit stuffy when they are serving weekend breakfast. Would be nice to have tables outside. If you want bagels, this place does a great job!

Vege Cream Cheese

We picked up bagels for a work function. They were still warm and smelling delicious. The vege cream cheese was flavorful with noticeable chunks of fresh veges. The Berry Cream Cheese was a new and tasty option. Jalapeño Bagel has noticeable peppers and just the right spice. They offer pumpernickel bagels, a rare find. Our group was delighted with the options and quality of the bagels

We've been coming here for months now, usually every Sunday. And I cannot say enough how happy I am to have a GREAT bagel place by my house. It's always packed and I'll sit out on the sidewalk if I have to!!! The owners are so friendly and you can tell they really take pride in everything they do. I've never found another bagel joint that sells a "salted bagel" but that's my go to... with a little bit of cream cheese and lox. It's a cute little spot to enjoy a nice breakfast with the family. I'll keep coming here again and again. They sell screamin peacock coffee which is always amazing. Their bagels and cream cheese are made fresh, in house, and they're absolutely delicious!!!!

Poppyseed bagel with butter, not toasted.

There is good, bad, and ugly here. GOOD: The bagels are good with a nice chew. My cinnamon bagel definitely had cinnamon and enough raisins. The poppyseed bagel had adequate poppyseeds. Very happy with the bagels themselves. BAD: Bagels are on the smaller side. If you want scrambled eggs they are poured from a pitcher into a form and steamed - not cooked on the flattop. Not sure if it's scrambled there or from a carton. On a Sunday morning, more than 3 people are needed to handle the long lines due to slow staff. The woman was pretty fast, but her male counterpart was way too slow. Hubby suggested an apprenticeship in NYC first. Also, the menu board is very hard to read. I had to take a picture and blow up the size to read it. UGLY: Due to the way scrambled eggs are steamed there, we just got buttered bagels. An obscene amount of butter was used (see pictures). I was wiping butter off my toasted bagel, and hubby scraped his off. It looked like cream.cheese, not butter. Butter is not cheap, so this is just wasteful. Net is buy your bagels and dress them up at home. Get there early since the lines are so long on the weekend.

The Italian Hero on everything bagel yummy

Brand new bagel place open everyday. Line was out the door today, very busy so my husband didn't ask for the bakers dozen to be sliced. He ordered an Italian Hero on everything. It was more than enough to share, very tasty. Almost too big to bite without unhinging the jaw! Delicious. 3 people were working - mostly selling sandwiches but we bought both. The Everything is very good. We both agree we prefer the chew to bagels from Joint. Bagel Base will be handy bc it's closer to home and open Mondays. I guess we like more crunch on the outside, more chew inside. 4.5 stars!

Open a few months & hearing good things about Bagel Base we ventured out for our Sunday morning bagels to this new spot. It's a small shop with a few tables and a long line. Obviously folks are liking what they are serving. While waiting online, I peered into the bagel display and noticed right away the bagels were much smaller than your average bagel. However, they had all types, including my husband's favorite garlic, which are hard to come by here in North Florida. They also sell all types of cream cheeses and my favorite white fish salad. I was surprised to see that white fish salad on a bagel was around seven dollars, which is quite reasonable. They also had my husband's favorite - crumb cake, which is a real New York thing. The guy that took our order was friendly & told us they make all bagels in house. What we ordered - one jalapeño cheddar bagel, one egg bagel, one piece of crumb cake, a quarter of a pound of white fish salad, a quarter of a pound of vegetable cream cheese, and a garlic bagel with cream cheese. The jalapeño cheddar was very tasty and very spicy. It was nice and doughy but small. The egg bagel was kind of hard and I suspect it was laying there a long time especially because it was the last one left. I had to toast it when I got home. Even then It was small and too hard. The whitefish salad was excellent as so was the vegetable cream cheese. My husband enjoyed his garlic bagel but he did comment that it was small. His review of the piece of crumb cake was, It was a nice large size piece, but he felt it could've been a little sweeter. He said it didn't have much taste. At the front of the counter, they have a dispenser which has sweet tea, unsweetened tea, and two types of iced coffee. They also have hot coffees with different flavors and decaf. If I'm in the area, I might go back. However, I'm still looking for the best bagels in Jacksonville.

Wide selection of bagels

Bagel Base made the perfect breakfast to take back and enjoy at our hotel. They offered several varieties of bagels and cream cheese, as well as coffee and other drinks. The store was clean and the service was efficient.

Man this place was packed for the first weekend! So happy to see locals come support this new business! I had a tight schedule so I decided to hold off going until one day during the week! Which I'm glad I did because I love pumpernickel bagels and I knew they would be limited with being so busy on Saturday! Staff were so kind and quick too! I got a 3 cheese, pumpernickel and everything bagel to go with a side of jalapeño cream cheese! Can't wait to go back and try more! They had a good amount of seating as well and the case of bagels/desserts was big for everyone to see!

Love this new bagel shop. I got a ham, egg, & cheese on the wheat bagel and it was delicious. My new fav spot and I'm excited to try their lunch sandwiches.

Bacon and egg on an everything bagel
Wendy L.

New York bagel snob here...these bagels are a home run! Crispy outside, soft inside and plenty of toppings. I had a whitefish salad on a poppyseed bagel and my husband had bacon and egg on an everything bagel. Both were delicious. Bagels are made fresh every morning on the premises. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was comfortable and welcoming. Locally roasted coffee is an added bonus.

Massive hair baked into my bagel. YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! idec it was so good I'll be back.

The outdoor seating area is a total win--it's perfect for people-watching with a breeze while you fuel up for a walk down St. George Street. I went with a classic plain bagel. The texture was spot on--chewy on the inside with that essential slight crunch on the outside. Sometimes bagel shops treat coffee as an afterthought, but the iced coffee here was smooth, bold, and served over plenty of ice. It stayed cold even in the Florida humidity. The line can look intimidating because the space is small, but the staff moves with impressive speed. Perfect balance of flavor and caffeine, not overly sweet, and actually tasted like real coffee (which is rare these days). In 3 years, I've had only great food and coffee here, but it's the warm, thoughtful, human element that has kept me coming back and will keep me coming for years to come. Thank you, Mike and the Sweetwater crew! *A note for my fellow wheeled peops: It's small, depending on the type of chair you have, and may require deft maneuvering but there is an accessible entrance in the back between Chase bank and the Villa Zorayda museum. We came in with 6 adults and 5 toddlers/kids, ready to enjoy breakfast, and instead we were met with some of the rudest behavior I've ever seen in a business. We sat outside, away from the few people inside. My $7 bagel came out burned, and although they remade it, they acted like doing their job was an inconvenience. Quiche was mediocre. I asked for an ice water to go along with my iced latte and the owner pointed to the fridge and said there's bottled water as if I was annoying him. He said they don't have a filter for the tap. How does a coffee shop not provide ice water? Get a filter! After we had finished eating, we took a quick picture of the kids in the swinging chair on the front porch. The male owner came to the doorway and snapped at us for being "too loud." I told him, "They're children. He is 1 years old." and he fired back, "Keep them under control." When I said he must not have kids, he actually scoffed and said "No," as if the idea itself was beneath him. I told him we'd never return, and his wife loudly said from behind the counter inside, "Good!" and "We lost a customer because of you all!" The level of pettiness and hostility was shocking -- especially after we'd already spent a significant amount of money there. This place is run by owners who clearly do not like families, do not understand hospitality, and do not treat customers with even basic respect. There are plenty of places in St. Augustine that are warm, welcoming, and kind. This is absolutely not one of them.
