Definitely in my top 5. Beverage quality is very consistently delicious (I love their mochas), have a fair amount of food options for breakfast and lunch, and have plenty of seating and a decent amount of outlets if you want to stay for a bit and enjoy the Very relaxed and "Austin-y" type of ambience. I've noticed some other reviews complaining of the customer service which I found odd because I haven't had a bad experience here. The baristas have been pleasant and prompt (though not forwardly friendly) anytime I visit, but maybe I've been getting the good ones. Prices are nothing to write home about, fairly standard for the area (in my opinion). Your coffee will run you $2.75-$5.00 depending on what you buy. Overall, I would recommend giving the place a chance. Good for studying, a first date, or a quick lunch. read more

I've given this Epoch location several chances and I never feel very comfortable in there. It seems like they're trying too hard to be a cool spot and not trying hard enough being a legit good coffee shop. Music today was jazz, it stopped maybe twice and towards the end of my visit I couldn't barely hear it. The loudness of the baristas complaining really travels because of no sound dampening, and so does any conversation that a patron has inside. I had a slice of quiche. It was alright. Just have to say that I stopped by Epoch because Genuine Joe doesn't understand the concept of staying open during their posted times and how that affects customer service. So my g/f and I walk in and the place is packed, but the line is small. Apparently this was the place to be on a Saturday night. We walk up to the counter and the barista was super nice. Answered all our questions and treated each customer before us, to include us, like we were friends. Small conversation and just being genuinely nice. Cappuccino was apparently the best one my g/f had ever experienced. I had a blood orange tea that was unique and delicious. I really like that they fill their own tea bags. The set up is made for studying, so if you want to have a conversation, it's a bit awkward, but not that bad. They have some table games and couch/lounge areas to be a bit more secluded and play games. read more

The coffee at Epoch is amazing. It is not surprising considering that they brew specialty coffees from local coffee roasters such as Wild Gift Coffee. The owner takes absolute great pride in serving customers well. This location is often busy and may get noisy. There are plenty of desks, but I wish the chairs were a little more comfortable. I really liked the original Epoch location near airport blvd. I have good memories there, drinking coffee with my friends and eating good pasteries. I saw this new location when I was going to Madam mam's for lunch and instrantly I kenw that that is the place that I would like to go for a cup of coffee after the lunch. I like this place, the atmosphere, and nice people working there. Everyhing should be above four strats. Except, the taste of coffee. I am not a coffee expert so my taste toward coffee may be very particular. I like dark french roast but when I tried the "regular" drip coffee. It was very sour. I know some coffee beans (or the type of roasting) have sour flavor but that's not the style of coffee that I prefer. So this review may be very skewed. I did a happy dance when the permit went up for Epoch many months ago because we could really use a non-chain coffee purveyor with good hangout space on Anderson Lane. (Yes, I know Genuine Joe's is just down the road, but it has heating/cooling issues and you roll the dice on surly service each and every time.) I finally paid Epoch a visit and am pleased. It's the brighter, cleaner cousin to the original outpost on North Loop. You'll still have a smattering of hipsters and quite a few gamers, but they peaceably coexist alongside solo students with their noses in books and chatty friends catching up on their week. There are tables, benches, sofas, comfy chairs, plentiful outlets...something for everyone. Unlike a previous reviewer who found the service abrasive, I was struck by how friendly the barista and the fellow who gave me the wi-fi password were. I enjoyed my piping hot, cinnamon-y mocha so much that I also sipped away on my husband's when he declared his too strong. The only hiccup was the temperature of the building. Um, was that my breath I just saw? It was really freakin' cold. (And that says a lot, coming from someone who typically runs hot). Oh, and as others have mentioned, it's not a great spot for a snack unless you happen to roll in between 10am and 2pm. Huh? I hope they expand their food hours over time. When I walked in the music was very loud and it seemed that the baristas were showing each other music because it kept changing. I've shown up two different times and have left because the much choice it's so grating - often punk or hard rock - which makes it difficult to relax and have a coffee. One of the worst coffee shops I've been to in Austin. The music is so loud it's impossible to carry on a conversation - let alone study. We asked if the music could be turned down slightly, they agreed, but 15 minutes later it was still blaring. Moreover, the baristas and their friends were screaming their conversation at the top of their lungs. Hint: you wouldn't have to do that if your music was at a reasonable volume. This location is on par with it's OG location (North Loop) it terms of drinks and the atmosphere is pretty good. I really love that they serve hot tea pots here. But I have a few issues: 1. The food. They have a decent kitchen just sitting there. When they first opened they used to make snacks and this was awesome! Now, the food and selection is sub par and unappetizing -- everything is prepackaged and brought in. The OG location does this too but they have way better vendors. 2. The hours. They used to be open until midnight but now close at 10pm. I hate this especially since the other location is 24 hours. While I don't think this location should be open 24 hours, I'm not sure why they're closing so early when the place is still really busy at 10pm. Bring back later hours... 12pm Thursday, Friday, Sat? Makes sense being next to Alamo Draft House. 3. The music. It's way too loud most of the time. I just heard a lady say "it's too loud in here I can't hear you let's go outside". The baristas often have the music BLASTING to where you will have a hard time hearing the person in front of you. I can't think. Don't even try talking a call inside... They also play weird shit. There are several reasons why you should choose this location over the one on North Loop: 1) Plenty of parking spots available. There are so many that I guarantee you will never have trouble finding one. 2) Overall cleanliness is an A+++. That includes the restroom lol. The place is a lot more modern looking which contributes to looking clean as well. 3) Perfect for studying/working. A lot of tables is available. Noise level is lower than the North Loop location. Wifi works great! I had to take out one star for the lighting. I personally thought the lights were too dim. ** Bring a jacket/cardigan if you plan to visit here! read more

I go to quite a lot of coffee shops since I'm a contractor and work remotely, and this was my first time at this location. I rely heavily on the WiFi connection to do my business and it kept dropping. It's a huge inconvenience, so hopefully it's a one time thing! Otherwise, it's a great coffee shop! Good for single or paired working/studying unless you really need an outlet- that can be pretty dicey. There's a couch area for group meeting for up to 8 or so people unless the weather is decent enough to sit outside. The music selection can get pretty heavy rock which would be distracting but I'm on headphones most of the time anyway so it doesn't particularly phase me. read more

I come to this area once a week and I needed to find a good coffeehouse because options are slim - Starbucks or nothing. I came across Epoch Coffee. Unfortunately, this wasn't it. Is it trendy? Sure. Does it have coffee? Yes. Does it have good customer service? No. I wonder if they find themselves too trendy - what I mean is their trendiness can overcome the lack of customer service. I have been here twice now. A. Not kid friendly. My son, who is autistic, but likes to order for himself wanted to know what kind of cookies they had. The barista couldn't understand him and made zero effort to try. Finally, I asked and she said "You could have just asked." Ok... B. I ordered a latte and went to the wrong part of the bar to pick it up. I have never seen an eye roll that hard. Thought her eyes would permanently going to be rolled to the back of her head, which would have been unfortunate. C. Went back a month later. Lets give it another try. Different barista. I've been coming to this Epoch off and on for years (because I live close by), and it's had its ups and downs, but it's definitely in one of those "down" phases right now. The staff seems frequently put off to be having to help you, even when it's not crowded. Music is often cranked up to volume 11, making conversation difficult if you're drinking/dining in. Finally, there's something going on with their oven or one of their other machines that's making the entire business smell like burnt cat dung, and not just sometimes, but pretty much all the time. read more

Then I came back again recently and ordered the same thing, but this time I was told that they couldn't make french vanilla, only regular vanilla. I said ok, but this cappuccino was much more bitter than the first one and definitely not worth the price. I was given a smaller cup the second time too. Well my boyfriend and I order an Iced Oolong tea and an Iced Mocha with Soy (the boyfriend is lactose intolerant) and we get a hot oolong tea and an iced mocha with regular milk. I'd be wanting to try this spot for a long time and when the opportunity finally presented itself, I eagerly jumped! After circling the lot a few times for a parking spot, I contemplated if this was worth a to-go latte, but I was determined. The coffee shop is tucked away in The Village shopping center with the hellish aforementioned parking lot of customers of all the various business competing for a spot. Already a little defeated by the time I entered Epoch, I was welcomed by a relaxing atmosphere with a ton of seating options. I immediately realized it was a coffee shop really designed for people looking to plug-in and get some serious work done. They even have a nice patio in the back to take your work outside. If I have a long work day in the future, I'll know to go here to get in the zone, however for a casual meet-up, this might not be your place. While there's definitely not a sense of urgency with the wait staff, it was more the lack of customer service that left a little more to be desired for me. For that price you should be able to replace all the burnt out bulbs in in your pendant lights and have a functioning paper towel dispenser in the womens bathroom. Also why is one restroom for women and one gender neutral? Is it because it has the baby changing table? They should both be gender neutral. Customer service was good. I will give the drink I ordered 5 stars. Very good americano. The staff was friendly. The reason I am giving only 2 stars is the overall feel of the place to me was passive aggressive. It starts with a picture of what appears to me a Middle East woman on the door at the entrance noting " we welcome everyone". What are you trying to say? Other coffee shops and restaurants are racist and discriminating ?? I have not experienced that. It should go without saying that you welcome everyone. Then in the restaurant there are two restrooms. One for women and one gender neutral. If you are going to have gender neutral restrooms, which I think is great by the way, have all gender neutral for all restrooms. This is a great place to come if you need to study, do some work or catch up with friends. You will see open laptops and notebooks everywhere you look but the atmosphere is light and friendly. The workers are super sweet and very welcoming. I love ordering the Turkish mint tea here, it's sublime! It is a little noisy but a pair of headphones can fix that problem. I usually try to put my headphones on but really enjoy the music they play. Whoever is in charge of music here deserves a high five because it's super chill. The biggest problem about this place is that parking is always hard to find and even though they have so much seating, it's almost always completely full. I've come here multiple times with the purpose of studying and staying here for hours but have had to leave because I couldn't find a spot. That's always really disappointing but unless they add some more seating, I don't really think that can be solved. read more

I'm not sure what I did to the workers at this Epoch but they never give me more than 1-word answers and indifferent service. I went in yesterday to order a pour over (overpriced at $5). The cashier took my order and walked over to the area where they make pour overs. I tried to strike up a conversation and got 1-word answers. The barista and other cashier interactions were the same. They were very friendly to some people that appeared to be regulars so maybe it was just me. The Ethiopian pour over was fine but other coffees I've had were nothing special, certainly not enough to make me return anymore.
