Went to Houndstooth this Friday for wfc! And it turned into a great surprise. Got a lavender latte which was smooth, lightly floral, really well balanced. Also picked up a tall buckwheat-based muffin after chatting with the barista (was hesitant at first), but wow! it was amazing. The best coffee spot in Domain, Austin. Quick service, nice and airy. I picked up coffee for 3 consecutive days from Houndstooth once I found the place (recommended by a coworker). The peppermint mocha is amazing, and so are the breakfast tacos that they offer from Tacodeli. I just discovered Breakfast tacos and I am pretty impressed, they definitely beat the breakfast burritos which I never seem to ever be able to finish. The pumpkin yogurt granola was another mind-blowing find here. Pretty quiet in the mornings so it makes for a good working/relaxing with your cuppa coffee spot. read more

Houndstooth is a small coffeeshop chain which has locations in Austin and Dallas. The shop I go to most, is the one on Rock Rose at the Domain, as my wife works down the road from it. I've been going to this place on and off for just over a year. The staff are really nice and the place is kept clean and tidy. It has a simple, modern design which works, plus they also sell merch if you want a cup, hat or t-shirt! The location isn't very big, but there's plenty of seating inside, as well as outlets to use if you're going here to study, browse or just relax. They also sell a range of beer and wines, so you can get a lil chaser of your favourite tipple, which is great because it's open from 7am-9pm, so you can walk right out onto the main road which is full of bars if you want to keep the party going. The coffee is rich and tasty, plus they do a small selection of pastries and breakfast tacos (Tacodeli) in the morning. Warning, the Tacos go QUICK if you're looking start with the handheld bundles of joy. Houndstooth is in all likelihood the best coffee shop at the Domain. Specializing in high quality beans and offering a rotating selection of single origin espresso, the baristas working there are usually knowledgeable and, so far, after several years visiting, have never messed up a coffee order of mine. The overall ambiance is casual and the staff is a special kind of blasé hipster you almost exclusively find working in third wave coffee shops. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, because you can usually count on these individuals to do their job well. Just don't expect too much enthusiasm and you won't be disappointed. The location on Rock Rose Ave is convenient and the shop stays open a bit later than some other businesses around. Kudos. The only thing missing to Houndstooth is a soul. It could be more cozy and welcoming. But if you're just going for the coffee, it's great. read more

The matcha was OK, nothing different from any other place. The americano was smooth but the water added was too hot, had to ask for ice to bring it to drinking temperature. Came across this place when looking for good coffee. The ambiance upon first glance looks lime it screams "third wave" so I decided to give it a try. Decided to come here on two separate occasions, but tried ordering a pour over the first time, but it was too close to closing. I got a cappuccino which was pretty solid. Service was prompt at that time. The second time, the service was a bit slower, but nothing too crazy to complain about. Ordered a latte at that time, and enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable. It's a clean, well-decorated place. Their roasted coffee is okay. I will return to try their pourover at some point and will update the review. Houndstooth is definitely a place I'd stop by again. It's very spacious inside and the vibe is chill, eclectic, and minimal if that paints a picture in your head. They have variety of mugs, and other cups available for sale. And parking is alongside the street, there is a parking garage within The Domain. I'd been coming on and off to houndstooth for years, but finally committed and made it my go to coffee stop for certain days of the week. Every visit I've enjoyed, from friendly staff, to overall vibe, and of course quality of coffee. This is my goto spot for the domain. Atmosphere: Modern coffee cafe but with that "local community feel", a place to get to be known by the staff by name. Food: Coffee coffee, what ever flavors or mixes you enjoy they have it here. My go to is the espresso complete with sidecar (sparkling water). Though i've also enjoyed their matcha, lattes, and other mixed drinks. You really can't go wrong just depends on what you want. Service: Big seller for me is the friendly staff. Consistency they've always provided great service and are knowledgable about whatever drink they're serving. Even better when they know you by name. I was very happy with the service, the barista shared some suggestions with me as well as informed me that if I return to buy a second bag of beans there is a discount on an iced coffee. Impeccably clean inside. Very modern and catering to the tech crowd with plenty of charging points. Coffee was delicious and not overpriced, about $6. Beans however are an investment. They had chai lattes and said they were delicious! The only reason I'm giving 3 stars it because it's a coffee shop, so most people go there to work/study and they DON'T HAVE REGULAR PLUGS. I was baffled. I did not realize until my computer was at 2% and I missed the second half of my class. They have USB plugs on the wall but not one regular plug. Unbelievable. read more

I ordered an ice vanilla latte at house tooth and it was good. I like the location because I can get a coffee while shopping at the domain however it's not a good place to study. They don't have any outlets to charge your laptop, so you can't stay there for very long. The staff is extremely friendly and they play good music to study to. There's a decent amount of seating but it's more of it to go coffee shop. They also serve beer, which is nice for a happy hour or post shopping drink. read more

I was gonna get chai latte but I saw a speciality lavender cold brew, the barista said they have the lavender syrup so they can make a latte. Love a service place that is willing to asks questions to get it right. Also taco deli tacos were clutch too. Indoor area had plenty of seating too, not all with back support but with high chairs. I have been visiting many coffee shops around where I live and Houndstooth was the next one I needed to check out. And, let me tell you, I was very happy with my visit. Houndstooth Coffee has some of the best coffee I have had in Austin. I have tried their Iced Lattes, hot lattes, and their Iced chai. All three drinks were absolutely delicious. Their chai latte is the best one I have had in ATX, it was deliciously sweet with cinnamon but not too overpowering. The lattes were very good and not too sweet. Houndstooth coffee is located in the domain, so I was able to find parking. I had come to houndstooth to get some work done and was able to until my laptop died. There is a lack of charging ports throughout the coffee shop and even the ones on the floor were not working. The tables are also a little small to co-work with people so it is not a great place to get work done. I think if you want to catch up with a friend or bring your book, it is perfect but if you need to get work done on your computer it might get more difficult. I went one time when it was very busy and the internet was also very slow. I will becoming back to grab some of their coffee again, but not to work on my computer. read more

Pretty coffee shop in the trendy Domain. We were wanting to stroll around and have an evening drink, so we stopped in Houndstooth for an Irish coffee. Irish coffee has hot coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar, and cream. There's no need to stir it, you simply sip the coffee through the cream. It was delicious. If you've been to the Buena Vista in San Francisco where they are famous for their Irish coffee, I would say you can't compare the two. I like my Irish coffee in a glass mug rather than a ceramic mug, and you can't beat the rustic, historic atmosphere of the Vista at the end of the wharf. This place is awesome, I really like the staff and I apologize for how loud we were. We stopped in for some coffee as all of us were running low on fuel. Staff was really accommodating and patient with us. I ordered a lavender latte and it was pretty good. Could have used a bit more flavoring and less milk but I cant complain.
