This is a delayed post. Not sure why since I went there 3 times in May. Two of the visits were in the same week. The gelato is that good! Pistachio is a must try, and the coconut is a next. When it gets really hot the line here can get pretty long and when I went, the line was pretty long. I thought, 'man this must be really good gelato,' but it was from everyone trying to find the right flavor for them. The staff seemed overwhelmed but kept their patience and calm the entire time, guess it must be a regular thing for people to want to try everything. I really didn't want to spend any more time sampling flavors since it was so hot out so I went with the passionfruit sorbet to refresh and Honey Lavender gelato to sweeten. The sorbet was ok, syrupy would be the word I would use to describe it. The gelato...it's hard to balance flavors like Honey and Lavender, too much and it's like your eating flowers drowned in simple syrup. I understand the movitation to go the understated route but I got no Lavender from it and a bit of sweetness. Did it get the job done, yes. read more

I was really craving ice cream that evening and a couple of us had some time to kill. We waited for almost an hour bc the line was so long. Was it worth it? Yes! The flavors are great and lots of options to choose from. A huge fan of strawberry flavored gelato and they 4-5 strawberry options. They also have some not as sweet gelato options as well. I wish their menu included the flavors. Or I wish they had a flavor list at the front of the line. It's kind of hard to have to wait to see all the flavors for the first time when the workers are waiting to take your order. There is a sheet that lists a bunch of flavors, but it includes a lot of flavors that they don't even have available so it just seems a little useless. That being said, they did have a lot of interesting flavors that looked good. But Frost gelato is definitely on the sweeter side and price is on the expensive side. Today Austin was sizzling at 95 degrees. While tooling around the Domain shopping center I needed a refreshing treat so I dropped by Frost Gelato since it was relatively close. It was not an original idea because the place had a queue about 30+ people deep when I got there and about 15 people when I left. I had to make a split second decision to stay or go. I went inside where it was nice and cool so decided to wait it out. Surprisingly, the line went pretty fast as they had two servers. One of Frost's customers pointed me to their website regarding information regarding the composition of gelato, which I found super interesting. Thought I would share it with you... "Translated from Italian, (jeh-lot-o) literally means frozen. Although gelato is a frozen dessert, the word does not begin to describe its immense flavor and texture. Gelato is often compared to ice cream because it is a frozen, creamy product, but there are actually many differences. Unlike American ice cream, which contains 10-20% butterfat, gelato contains anywhere from 3-8% butterfat. The United States Department of Agriculture has designated that any product under 10% cannot legally be called ice cream. As a result, gelato will never be able to take the ice cream name. Gelato is able to keep the low percentages of butterfat because we only use 3% milk instead of cream, raw eggs and butter in our production. Another feature of gelato that separates itself from American ice cream is the amount of air that is incorporated into the product. Most American style ice creams incorporate anywhere from 75%-100% of air. Gelato, however, incorporates a maximum of 20%. As a result, the gelato flavors are intensified because the butterfat acts as a dam and dilutes or blocks the flavors. What does all of this information mean? Simply, that gelato is the most intense, silky, dense, cool, and flavorful "ice cream style" product that will hit your lips. The flavor is simply indescribable. An added bonus: because of all these factors, gelato is much." I sampled two flavors - sea salted caramel and black cherry and landed on sea salted caramel. While gelato is somewhat healthy, I got the smallest cup (trying to cut back on sugar and carbs, where I can). The gelato was good, but did not compare to gelato I have eaten in Italy. read more

10/10 for this location Outside seating area, you can also walk (domain is very walkable) inside the shop the tables are almost always full, but it is a good atmosphere. A little loud and hectic but all ages (old and babes) You can try different samples and the servers are patient! I went to this gelato place in The Domain and I loved it. I ordered for a waffle and they made it fresh that you get it a bit warm, so good! The chocolate and peanut butter were really good and full of flavor. The place is nice, small but if you are lucky you get to find a spot outside. What a sad ice cream parlor. I've never been to any place with worse customer service. Every single person ahead of us was allowed any sample they wanted. When it was my groups turn to get samples we were told we can only taste two flavors. How the heck are you supposed to choose what you want when there are 20 some flavors and you can only taste 2 to determine what you want. I didn't end up getting anything due to the employees comment. But my friends did and ice cream was mid. Frost gelato seem to have a variety of options but we only tasted the pistachio and mango before going with them. Small cozy place and the gelato is not bad. The gelato was so creamy and rich!! After coming back from Italy, I have been on a hunt for a good gelato spot. The other spots in Austin have not been meeting my expectations because they were not creamy enough. I got the pistachio, although it was creamy but I wish it had more of a nutty pistachio flavor. The other "award winning" gelato was good, but wish it was a bit more chocolatey. Tasted more of the peanut flavor. I would definitely come back to try other flavors though (especially their fruit flavors). They have so many options to choose from. Service was okay, nothing exceptional but not rude. Stopped by for dessert on a weekend after lunch. There was quite a line, but it went fast! You can choose from many gelato flavors, and they'll let you sample them too! They also have drinks like hot chocolate There are only 2 tables inside, each with 4 seats. There was one table outside but it was raining that day. Soo many mouth watering flavors!! I had the pistachio and hazelnut scoops, both absolutely yummylicious! They were out of waffle cones on a Sunday afternoon, so had to go for a medium bowl instead. Finally checked out Frost on a Friday night (for the longest time I thought it was a bank ). Not only were the gelato flavors incredible, but the staff made my experience truly unforgettable with their warm and friendly service. They took the time to explain the different flavors and even offered me samples to help me decide. I felt like they truly cared about my experience and were passionate about their gelato. The gelato itself was delicious and incredibly fresh. I could tell that the ingredients were of the highest quality and that the gelato was made with care and attention to detail. This was our first time trying this place! Our friends come here all the time and raves about it! The line was out the door and they have so many gelato flavors! We had a party of 8 and the only issue we had was one of the workers kept personally skipping over us, so it took us longer to complete our order. The cookies and cream gelato was very tasty! I used to frequent the Domain a lot in college, and I would see a large crowd of people inside Frost Gelato. Now, I understand why. Frost Gelato has some of the best gelato I've ever had (I haven't been to Europe yet so this is strictly my opinion of North American gelato). I've sampled and tried a lot of their flavors, and I can honestly say that I don't think you can go wrong with any one of them. My favorites are any of the fruits, pistachio, coffee, and chocolate. I don't normally like chocolate as a flavor, but all of their flavors taste extremely natural and not artificial at all. Each flavor in the freezer is also decorated so beautifully. The texture itself is incredible--so smooth and creamy, and the flavors are super apparent and strong. I can't say enough good things about Frost Gelato. read more

I was wandering around Domain Northside taking in all the many options in this area and just happened to discover this spot by accident. It was perfect timing as I was certainly in the mood for gelato and they just happened to have a great selection of gelato options here. I decided on the blueberry option and I enjoyed my gelato experience here. The staff were really nice and helpful with making suggestions and allowing you to taste different flavors. The space inside here was also quite nice and made for a comfortable place to be as you enjoyed eating your gelato. Overall I've had better gelato but not in Texas. read more

Was an okay experience. I appreciate the very attentive customer service but I would be nice to enter the door entirely and have a moment to look at the menu and options before being asked what we want. The moment we opened the door hadn't even stepped in we got greeted "hi welcome in what can I get for you" again hadn't even stepped foot in the facility. Just seemed a little too overwhelming. I appreciate paying attention to the customer. We ordered a hot chocolate and it was amazing but they forgot the whipped cream. Overall the experience was average. I would come back read more

Very convenient location in the domain. It's right next to the yard house, so rather than getting desert there it's perfect to have some gelato to cool down at hot summer weather. This place can get packed! When we first walk in, there are a couple people sitting inside, but by the time we get our gelato, there is a long line out the door. We ordered mint chocolate chip and salted Carmel flavors. The minted chocolate is really good, light mint flavor. However the salted Carmel is really really sweet. Stopped by here after walking around the domain on a blazing hot summer day! We needed something cool to make the texas heat bearable and saw that there was a gelato shop right there! We walked up and they were so busy that the line was out the door! After spending way too much time looking at all the flavors and sampling a few, I decided to try the chocolate chip looking flavor. I forgot the name, but I decided to get a cone which was a mistake because it was so hot outside. The gelato tasted okay. Kirti liked it more than I did. I thought it tasted a little too watery and the waffle cone did not taste that sweet. Maybe I just got a bad flavor, but it just wasn't satisfying. On my recent visit for some gelato, my husband and I observed incidents that really made us think if we want to visit this gelato shop again. We were sitting at the bar top area when a young worker was refilling the gelato cups. A few got toppled over and fell on the floor. The young lad picked it all up and placed them along the other stacked cups. This might not be an issue to some customers but this was an issue for me especially having worked in the food industry before a Also noticed that a coworker was cleaning tables and never washed his hands after coming back to serve other customers in line. read more

Cute little gelato shop with tons on gelato options. The gelato tasted very fresh and soft it really velvety and melted in your mouth (literally!). The place got pretty busy but the employees were friendly and made sure to get everyone what they needed. read more

My BFF said it tasted too much like a meal rather than a dessert and couldn't give it a high rating, but as a charcuterie fan, I know there are plenty of "dessert" cheeses. I will gladly have Sammie's take the Pepsi challenge against red sauce joints in NYC/NJ etc. In fact, I've told friends and family that I am going to take them to Sammie's when they visit from there. We just had such a fantastic experience - everything..the vibe..the red light fixtures and the color of the booths and the floor..the service - our server was great..loved their outfits..really had an old school little italy feel to it. The food was much better than I even anticipated - as a guy who grew up on NJ diner mozzarella sticks, I have a high bar for them and these were magnificent. And seriously...taking the "everything's bigger in Texas" slogan and applying them to mozzarella sticks?! top 10 achievements of the decade. The chicken parm was perfect - well seasoned, proper amount of crisp..the basil on top...the perfect browning of the cheese. Also the lasanga was excellent..and best part - the leftovers..took it home and the next two days put them in a small cast iron and re-heated them..and the magic was right there in my hill country kitchen! Lastly and certainly not least - the cannoli...just look at the photo below.. I'll say, yes, the place is pricey but you can really easily split these entrees and then it becomes cheaper than a jersey strip center Italian joint.
