a great spot for a cold sweet treat during the summer, sad that is going to close. i tried the dreamsicle with soft serve, flavor passion berry. i truly enjoyed it and would definitely return to try other flavors. they have a wide variety of items, flavors, and options. some flavors are hit or miss so definitely try some flavors to find the right one!
I've been coming to Jim-Jim's long before moving to Austin. It's an Old 6th Street staple and there's a reason for it. Or should I say many glorious reasons? They have so many fun and yummy ice cream and water ice flavors to choose from. It's almost like being at a carnival in the middle of a city. This is a good thing because it brings back all those delicious memories associated with fairs and carnivals. Nice little walk-up with window service. My little Sir Benjamin even got some vanilla ice cream!

My friends ordered the Italian Water Ice and they said it was phenomenal. This place needs more stars.

Jim-Jim's was so good I got it everyday I was there during my stay in Austin I got the coconut ice with ice cream and the mango with ice cream. My partner got a coke float too each time and we both loved it.
I went on two different occasions: once to try the soft serve ice cream because they didn't have the premium ice cream flavor available and second time was to try the premium ice cream flavor. The service was solid, the ice cream ranges from mid - to good, and the pricing is more expensive than I'm used to. First trip- I got a vanilla soft serve cup with Oreo toppings (4.60$ after taxes) and it wasn't very good, it was average soft serve at best. Second trip- I got 2 scoops of the Oreo premium ice cream ($7.52 after taxes). The ice cream was good but definitely overpriced, I've gotten better and more ice cream for less the price. The place is okay but I definitely wouldn't come back.
It was scorching hot in Austin and we spotted Jim-Jim on yelp when we searching for a cool treat. The place is a small stand that seemed quite popular. Despite the size of the shop, they had lots of flavors for the water ice and homemade ice cream. Honestly I was torn about what to get. I really wanted to try the ice cream but also I want the water ice and I knew I could not eat both. So, since I had ice cream earlier in the day, I went with the water ice. I was definitely not disappointed! The flavors were sweet but not cloyingly so. The ice was packed well, the cup made it easy to eat, and the small size was just enough. This was a perfect way to cool off as we walked back to our hotel. All five of us were very pleased with our choices!
Jim Jim's is a gem - or should I say a gem gem? Jim Jim's Italian ice is a famous Texan staple - different from the typical Asian shaved ice / bingsu or Hawaiian shave ice, the various fruity flavors integrate super well with the ice like a slushie but softer and better! I got the Peach and Strawberry Lemonade water ice in a medium cup ($4) but the Mango and Strawberry Lemonade are the most popular flavors. We also got a vanilla soft serve - one of the creamiest soft serves I've ever had! I'd 200% recommend stopping by if you're on 6th St in Austin!!
A little window that could pass as an ice cream truck if you didn't see the building attached. A dizzying array of flavor choices. They all seemed quite artificial tasting and surprisingly faint on the taste though. It's refreshing on a hot day for sure, but I'm probably spoiled by having had so many real fruit gelatos and sorbets over the years. Blue Blast: Tasted like the typical "blue" artificial flavor that you get in blue drinks and blue candies. I loved the novelty of anything bright blue as a kid, so these are still fun from a nostalgia perspective. Sour Watermelon: Only had a slight watermelon flavor and wasn't that sour. Usually watermelon is my favorite Italian ice flavor, but this one was too mild. Passionfruit: Oh, I absolutely love passionfruit. I always order it if a cocktail or dessert is flavored with it. Sadly, theirs's was very artificial tasting and didn't approximate the real tartness and crispness of passionfruit.
We stopped here on our way to doing a duck tour. They were just opening up but we're nice to get right to taking our order. We had a variety of items, and liked all of them. It's a small mom & pop type place with a walk up window. Go try it!
Great summer treat! This is better than ice cream!! Support local businesses. The people are so nice and let you try flavors before you decide. Parking is somewhat easy!

Mm sweet and refreshing water ice! You can get split flavors and they have punch cards, which is a plus. I got the mangoberry (flavorful, fruity, perfect level of sweetness) and black raspberry (flavor was kinda faint, watery). Parking is a bit tricky so I suggest bringing a friend so they can hop out and buy the water ice while you circle around the block!
Dehydrated and desperately needing something sweet we dropped by Jim Jim's to see what the high reviews were all about. Located on 6th Street, Jim Jim's is surprisingly accessible with parking spots available out front and just around the corner. It's not a sitdown place so keep that in mind for your stop, but the line does move fast and they are very efficient. There's a good variety of flavors and things they serve from italian ice to ice cream and shakes. We opted for a strawberry italian ice with condensed milk on top. From the first bite we were in heaven. The flavor is very thorough which is not always the case for Italian ices where it can sometimes be a bit muted. Every single bite of this was packed with flavor. They also carve out a bit of the middle to put the condensed milk which makes every bite much more equal than if it was just placed at the top. This was by far one of, if not the best, Italian ices we've ever had. We would very much recommend it to anyone in the Downtown area looking to cool off. read more
Went here for the first time last weekend due to someone else wanting water ice, sad to see its temp closed right now. I got the mango, passion fruit, and cotton candy flavors. By far, passion fruit was my favorite out of the 3, the other 2 were refreshing, but not personal favorites. If your particular about flavorings the definitely have some artificial taste to them so choose wisely. It's a cute hole in the wall shop for a grab and go water ice. So many flavors to choose from, hope they open back up soon so I can try some more! read more

Stopped by here during the pecan street festival and I forgot how good water-ice is. A little more juicy than a snow cone with more of a texture of a blended iced (think icee) but more solid. The flavor is well incorporated so more than a snow cone or snowball. This place is on the tail end of dirty duct closer to the freeway. There's a window where you order. The only negative is they have one location and it's on dirty sixth but I guess that's what makes it special and they've been around since 90s and there are not too many Austin institutions that are still around from back then. read more

First time trying Jim-Jim's! Very good water ice! Good flavors, natural tasting. The passion fruit tasted more like guava though. A large water ice (no ice cream inside) is $7.00, kind of pricey!! read more
I had never heard of Jim-Jim's but they recently catered an event at my job and now I'm a fan. I love flavored ice/snow cones, so this was a sweet surprise for me. I haven't visited their brick and mortar but next time I'm downtown I for sure will be making a stop because it was so good and the employees were so friendly and nice! read more

10 stars! Discovered this place last week & already been back 3x. It's incredible. They have so many flavors! I wish there were more sugar free (just cherry and watermelon). If the owner is reading this, can you make sugar free cotton candy!? Pro tip: add soft serve ice cream in the middle!! read more
Have you ever seen someone eat it on a scooter? Most likely, yes. Today's victim is my gf (see attached photo). I came to this store after treating several cuts and bruises. After several washes of blood off my hands, they were finally clean. But then I remembered, I can treat cuts and bruises with first aid... but the soul requires ice cream. After this realization we immediately ceased medical care and proceeded to find ice cream. Unfortunately, we had no ice cream near us, but a water ice place? What was that? I had no time to think. As an eagle scout, we were taught to react under pressure. My gf's soul was wearing thin, and we rushed to order a mango and passion fruit water ice cup. And my god. It was delicious, at a relatively low calorie index, this water ice thing did the trick. Rejuvenated, we continued our journey through life, safely putting this bump in the road behind us. Please visit this ice water place for a delicious treat to deal with the heat (or any injuries). read more

In the summer heat this is definitely something you want to get. However, you would have to eat it quick as it will melt pretty fast. I got the Italian ice with vanilla ice cream. I love the mix between the icy and vanilla. As it melts, it makes a very creamy drink as well, they have a lot of flavors, so definitely have to go back and try. When I went, you can only order outside and eat it outside, as indoors was not open. read more

I was reading some of the two and three star reviews and thought to myself "what fun haters. How can anyone leave a bad review about popular ice cream place?? ". And then my experience was a 3 -tops :( I had hoped for so much more. I walked .4 miles in 103 degree Austin heat... and I'd have paid that much just for the brief periods of cold in my mouth- but actual deliciousness would've helped greatly. The orange "creamsicle" tasted like a bunch of chemicals, I thought it was supposed to be of real fruit. And Very little ice cream. It was like a couple melted popsicles with a very small bit of ice cream in between another layer of melted Popsicles For $8 I expected some quality. I was disappointed. read more

Definitely kind of sketchy looking giving so much has closed down on 6th Street. However, the ice cream was good and despite seeing one or two guests approach without a mask, I felt fairly safe. Not sure I would say it's worth inviting guests from out of town to travel downtown for it but if you happen to be around you should definitely stop by read more

an awesome little shop!! the store itself is food truck style where you order at a window and then they prepare it & serve it to you. there are a ton of options, including water ice, ice cream, and soft serve. i got the dreamsicle, with strawberry lemonade water ice and a chocolate/vanilla swirl of soft serve and it was delicious!! it was a perfect mix of refreshing and tasty. i would definitely stop by here if you are in the 6th street area. also, service was extremely friendly. and, the shop decor was so vibey! read more

Prefer ice cream? Jim-Jim's now makes their own ice cream. Get their salted caramel. Thank me later. There's limited sidewalk seating so get your goods to go and you're good to go.
