Dehydrated and desperately needing something sweet we dropped by Jim Jim's to see what the high reviews were all about. Located on 6th Street, Jim Jim's is surprisingly accessible with parking spots available out front and just around the corner. It's not a sitdown place so keep that in mind for your stop, but the line does move fast and they are very efficient. There's a good variety of flavors and things they serve from italian ice to ice cream and shakes. We opted for a strawberry italian ice with condensed milk on top. From the first bite we were in heaven. The flavor is very thorough which is not always the case for Italian ices where it can sometimes be a bit muted. Every single bite of this was packed with flavor. They also carve out a bit of the middle to put the condensed milk which makes every bite much more equal than if it was just placed at the top. This was by far one of, if not the best, Italian ices we've ever had. We would very much recommend it to anyone in the Downtown area looking to cool off. read more

Went here for the first time last weekend due to someone else wanting water ice, sad to see its temp closed right now. I got the mango, passion fruit, and cotton candy flavors. By far, passion fruit was my favorite out of the 3, the other 2 were refreshing, but not personal favorites. If your particular about flavorings the definitely have some artificial taste to them so choose wisely. It's a cute hole in the wall shop for a grab and go water ice. I've been coming to Jim-Jim's long before moving to Austin. It's an Old 6th Street staple and there's a reason for it. Or should I say many glorious reasons? They have so many fun and yummy ice cream and water ice flavors to choose from. It's almost like being at a carnival in the middle of a city. I went on two different occasions: once to try the soft serve ice cream because they didn't have the premium ice cream flavor available and second time was to try the premium ice cream flavor. The service was solid, the ice cream ranges from mid - to good, and the pricing is more expensive than I'm used to. First trip- I got a vanilla soft serve cup with Oreo toppings (4.60$ after taxes) and it wasn't very good, it was average soft serve at best. Second trip- I got 2 scoops of the Oreo premium ice cream ($7.52 after taxes). The ice cream was good but definitely overpriced, I've gotten better and more ice cream for less the price. It was scorching hot in Austin and we spotted Jim-Jim on yelp when we searching for a cool treat. The place is a small stand that seemed quite popular. Despite the size of the shop, they had lots of flavors for the water ice and homemade ice cream. Honestly I was torn about what to get. I really wanted to try the ice cream but also I want the water ice and I knew I could not eat both. So, since I had ice cream earlier in the day, I went with the water ice. I was definitely not disappointed! The flavors were sweet but not cloyingly so. The ice was packed well, the cup made it easy to eat, and the small size was just enough. I just love me some Jim-Jim's! It's a staple in Austin, and it's a go-to on 6th Street, they've been there for a very long time so their sustainable, and the product is always quality good as well as the customer service - always nice and friendly. It's the best damn Italian Ice in town, hands down. There's so many options to choose from, my usual go-to is choosing from the plethora of yummy flavors from their water ice list. Strawberry Lemonade and Mango are their top sellers, I usually get mine 80% filled with Sugar Free Cherry and Sugar Free Watermelon - both of which are just superb. Then I top it off with a couple of other flavors to mix it in. I totally dig the Sour Apple, Orange Cream, Dragon's Blood, Grape, Lime, and Blue just to name a few. I've had their soft serve - it's really good. They have ice cream as well which I have yet to dive into. You can mix in a little soft serve with your water ice for a creamier version. But overall you cannot go wrong here, it's very refreshing and I've always had a good experience here. Get the punch card and after 10 visits you get a few bucks off - woo hoo!! They all seemed quite artificial tasting and surprisingly faint on the taste though. Blue Blast: Tasted like the typical "blue" artificial flavor that you get in blue drinks and blue candies. I loved the novelty of anything bright blue as a kid, so these are still fun from a nostalgia perspective. Sour Watermelon: Only had a slight watermelon flavor and wasn't that sour. Usually watermelon is my favorite Italian ice flavor, but this one was too mild. Passionfruit: Oh, I absolutely love passionfruit. I always order it if a cocktail or dessert is flavored with it. Stopped by here during the pecan street festival and I forgot how good water-ice is. A little more juicy than a snow cone with more of a texture of a blended iced (think icee) but more solid. The flavor is well incorporated so more than a snow cone or snowball. This place is on the tail end of dirty duct closer to the freeway. There's a window where you order. The only negative is they have one location and it's on dirty sixth but I guess that's what makes it special and they've been around since 90s and there are not too many Austin institutions that are still around from back then. read more

Definitely kind of sketchy looking giving so much has closed down on 6th Street. However, the ice cream was good and despite seeing one or two guests approach without a mask, I felt fairly safe.
