Expect to pay an exorbitant amount for extremely disappointing food. The sushi place has unfortunately gone downhill recently leaving Epi with nothing to offer really. It's a shame that it is now extremely inconvenient for patients family members to access as it is one of the only options for those looking for food at the hospital (there is no cafeteria). read more

Blech! Save yourselves from one disappointing meal! The buffet is way overpriced for day-old-looking food. I think the only people who come here are starving students. read more

How did it take me more than a year (after being around 5 days a week) to discover this place?! For the options that are on campus, Epicurean is delicious!!!! I love their buffet (both breakfast and lunch options). I especially love the selection of fruits. For breakfast, you can choose from grits (and cheesy grits), biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs of all sorts, omelets, breakfast sandwiches, french toast (made from croissant I think?), breakfast meats including fried chicken, and more! There's freshly squeezed orange juice and also a choice of medium/dark roast & decaffeinated coffees. Two complaints. The first is that after a while, you'll notice that the tasty foods are VERY greasy. And the second that makes me dock off 2 stars is how incredibly expensive this place is. The sandwiches and pizza and sushi are all very expensive... and for the buffet? If you're not careful like me (the first time I went), you'll accidentally spend far more than you plan on spending.... yeah, it's all by weight. I should have been smarter. read more

There are 5 reasons to go here: Sushi, Hibachi, Chinese Buffet, Grill Sandwiches, and the Bar. Today I just had the Chinese Buffet experience--not just Chinese food, but the usual food served at a Chinese Buffet. So let's look at what you get: a good variety of not quite gourmet food for gourmet prices. Tasty, yes, but depends on the day. I had some spring rolls, fried rice, turkey, fajitas, and a bag of chips. If I could say "all for $10" I'd be happy, but since it's "all for less than $20", I'm less than thrilled. Try some of the other experiences if possible; I love the happy hour specials at the bar (though their command of English is questionable at times). Hibachi is delicious and half price for a limited time! It's just this particular buffet experience that is... well, not subpar, but par for the course. read more

The lovely Epi staff sees my mug on a daily basis. We've gotten to a point where they ring me up for a small iced-coffee (which is top-notch..or maybe that's just my caffeine addiction talking) before I even get to the cash register. The place is well run and manages hordes of doctors, students, and various other customers incredibly efficiently. I highly recommend the hot sandwiches, in particular, the The McGhee Center. If you find yourself with an empty stomach at the Georgetown Medstar Hospital, don't be shy and stop by Epi to grab a bite. They also have a bar that offers a shockingly cheap happy hour (if my memory serves me, I believe it's $2.50/pint!!). read more

The restaurant is open 24 hours a day, and I can only speak for it at breakfast time. I had to have a procedure at Georgetown Hospital, and the only chance I had to eat was around 10 am, so I went here. While at most places at breakfast time it is nearly impossible to order anything that doesn't include eggs (which I absolutely detest), here everything is served buffet style (though it is pay-by-weight) so I could load up on sausage, scrapple, and home fries, and bypass the omelets/eggs. Yes, they have them, but I'd rather starve than eat eggs; I don't even want to LOOK AT them (though I had to in this case). There was so much I COULD have that I had to pass up some things I might have liked (cheese grits, for example). My recollection was that my wife had a bad experience at another Epicurean location later in the day -- I was with her, but not hungry, so I didn't order -- so this review only applies at breakfast and at this location. But I was pretty happy with what I got today here. read more

Georgetown University's campus is a culinary desert of sorts, which makes Epicurean and Co. kind of an oasis, albeit an expensive one. But convenience and selection often makes it the best available option. The restaurant's divided into three parts: One side has a sushi bar (not too bad) and a Benihana-esque grill (best to avoid). The middle part is the kind of lunch spot you'd expect to find in Manhattan. The fully loaded salad bar (sold by weight, of course) is probably the highlight of the place. They also have a warm food buffet, which offers an assortment that ranges from Chinese takeout food to fried plantains. The sandwich counter is pretty good, but the same can't be said of the pizza. As if that weren't enough, the other side of Epicurean has a full bar with several big screen TVs. While not everything at Epicurean is good, they have so much selection that you're bound to find something fairly tasty. The BIG downside is that the prices are ridiculously expensive for what you're getting. But when you're stuck on Georgetown's campus without many any other options, you're willing to shell out the cash for halfway decent food. read more

I eat here out of necessity: My husband and I are both grad students at Georgetown and classes frequently go until 8 or 9 p.m. at night. Thus to avoid eating at 11 p.m., we suck it up at go to Epicurean. They do have a good selection of food at the self-serve hot bar, but some of it is, as a previous reviewer said, a lot like Panda Express style. The sushi, hibachi, hot food bar, sandwich/pizza spot are just too disjointed to really make this a "restaurant", but heck, it's a campus food joint. Can't expect too much. read more

Epicurean has robbed my bank account due to its sheer convenient location. The food is ok. The food is expensive. At the "buffet" area, you pay by the pound, so BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU PUT ON YOUR PLATE!! The soup is okay also, they try to have a variety, but everyday you can count on Chicken Noodle and Turkey Chili. The best part of Epicurean is breakfast. Epic opens at 630. The french toast is a heart attack in one bite. They use mini croissant halves - yup, it's delicious. They also make egg, turkey, croissant sandwiches which are pretty buttered up and therefore tasteful. The hashbrowns (like McDonalds) are very deepfried. The other best part of Epic is the French Fries. For $3 (a little pricey at first), you get a massive cup of fries. Fries are made to order and made per batch, so you know yours is fresh. The sushi is pretty decent, no complaints. Not the best costumer service, but they can make it pretty well. The bar. Great happy hour specials from 4-7. 2.75 draughts for all draughts, no beer discrimination. If you're at the Georgetown or Hospital campus, stop here and stray away from the hospital food or Subway. read more

Before graduation, we were hungry. We woke up earlier, we came to do my sister's hair and we didn't stop to get breakfast. So here we came for the breakfast buffet. I hate buffets. But I needed some food so I stock piled my plate with everything while forgetting that it was pay by the pound. I had a biscuit which sausage gravy, which ended up being cold but still tasty, though I don't like cold gravy so I was done. There was a wait for bacon and I wasn't waiting, so I got a sausage. Some potatoes and then a ton of fruit. The fruit ended up being the best part, probably could've skipped everything else. My sister told me she'd get sushi here a lot (since it was right near where she lived) and I feel like if I had been around more often, we would've gone too. LEGIT. All in all, it was a good breakfast, it just sucked that it was so expensive. read more

The grilled chicken in the Mandarin salad from the salad bar was really chewy. I told the manager, he went to the kitchen spoke with the chef, and told me he was really sorry and to get something else free of charge. He then told me the chicken had weird texture because the chef said the chicken is old and that he had noticed that it was hard to cut up. Avoid this place, they do not value freshness and good quality for their customers. read more

Today I enjoyed a very nice lunch at Epicurean. Specifically the chicken that they had was very well done tasted excellent and was cooked to perfection. I also enjoyed how large expansive the salad bar used there as well. read more

I ate here twice while visiting someone in the hospital. They have excellent happy hour specials, which probably half the people stuck waiting for something or another at Georgetown appreciate. The food is pretty middling. Portions from the grill are large, but our burgers came out a little underdone and the gigantic orders of fries were unsalted and terrible. The buffet was better than the grill, but the prices on the food items were just ridiculous. The milkshakes were huge and delicious, but also expensive. This was a step up from a hospital cafeteria, for sure, but I don't think it's a place I'd actually seek out unless I was stuck in the area for some reason. read more

You get what you pay for, I guess. A great option on campus but very pricey. Its hard to leave the buffet at lunch with your order under $10. The chinese food options are always good but definitely weighed down with sauce - I try to grab the small pieces of chicken if at all possible. I think the one decently priced option are the soups. A container of soup is $3. You can get crackers at no extra cost but if you get a slice of bread that goes on the scale. The sandwiches are a decent option. I have gotten the chicken pesto sandwich and the chicken caesar wrap. Both are good but once again the same price as a Wisey's Chicken Madness on the other side of campus. Last but not least is the bar - decently priced drinks and one of the few places around that will put on soccer games, including champions league matches. read more

Georgetown Hospital: can't get birth control, but can get tanked on Happy Hour beer. Who would have thought that a hospital cafeteria offers pitchers of beer for $12? Definitely an option at Epicurean, and pitchers are served up without a judging glance from the bartender. Though discounted, Happy Hour sushi is not the deal it's made out to be. $1 nigiri is cut unusually small, and some of the fish selections were a bit dried out. I wonder if this is consistent with the normally priced sushi selection? Better yet, forget the food. Drink the beer. Pay the malpractice insurance. read more

the food here is very expensive! The design is such that you build up your meal by putting it into a tray and then waiting it by the pound. This little so is not that good cafeteria tell style seating I would not recommend this unless you're on the Georgetown campus and can't find anywhere else to eat read more

I enjoy dining here whenever I'm in DC visiting my lady. Food is a step above your typical college cafeteria. I like that they have fried plantains that taste ooooh so good. Sometimes it's the only thing I come for. read more

Epicurean - Delis Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

As a hospital visitor, I've had the opportunity to eat here twice so far. Once for breakfast and once for supper. The food is very expensive at almost $10/lbs. and is extremely mediocre. They did have cheese grits for breakfast, which along with the oatmeal, is reasonably priced for a substantial amount of grits and/or oatmeal. The soup selection at the dinner hour is like wise priced and the beef and vegetables was actually very good. My main complaint about this eatery was the underlying "petroleum" flavor of the mashed potatoes. Either something got inadvertently mixed into this particular batch or they're cooking on gas stoves with a "leak" and the mercaptin odorant is contaminating the food. Either way it should be looked into. read more

Not the cheapest place, but always have a good selection to choose from. The buffet has some good stuff, but its kind of hit or miss at times. The soups are often too salty, but they've gotten better recently. Go there for happy hour, good specials. Not the best sushi, but not bad, especially for the price. read more

The food here is absolutely amazing for a cafeteria. They have a huge selection of quality foods. The salad bar is absolutely insane with every possible topping imaginable. They have 4 or 5 soup selections, Asian inspired dishes, souther inspired dishes, sushi, fresh pizza and custom sandwiches. read more

I come here for lunch and happy hour. The sushi chef is really nice but the manager was super rude. Lunch time is really busy so give yourself some time. It's always short staffed. Bartenders aren't the greatest either, but the happy hour deal is really good, so I keep coming back... Dollar sushi happy hour, $3 draft beer, and other deals, it's pretty amazing deal in Georgetown! The buffet is really expensive, one time I spent almost $20 for a box of food. read more

I haven't been to the sushi bar so I am commenting on their buffet. I once lived on their buffet for lunch and dinner until my girlfriend convinced me to make lunch boxes. I have saved quite a lot since then. That being said, the price is quite expensive ($10/lb). But to be fair, their food quality for their buffet is acceptable and has a diverse choice for you to choose from. Their cream spinach and roast duck are highlights. Sometimes I order a slice of pizza for snack when I am starving, the quality is ok but the size really depends. Sometimes you get a huge slice and sometimes you just get a tiny bit. However, their breakfast buffet is a great deal for students, with a much cheaper price. Having a good big breakfast and a cup of coffee at Epicurean is a ritual I developed after spending a night up in the library. Their roast potato and umlaut are good. So, two stars for lunch/dinner and four stars for breakfast - that makes a three. read more

The Weight system is not equilibrated ! Not all the same ! Don't wanna pay more than what I take ! I discovered that instdentally when after I put my plate to be weighted. I told the lady at the cashiers want to pay with "Apple pay". After she switched me to another counter with another Scale "weighing device" I noted there is a $0.33 dollars extra !!!! I hope the management fix this issue ASAP! read more

There is a wide array to choose from and the food is decent but extremely overpriced for what it is.

While studying at Georgetown this summer, I've found this place to be a nice getaway from the student union and M Street. It's comfy inside, and you have a large selection of food - if you're in the mood for sushi, Chinese, Indian, etc., it's all there (mostly at the buffet). The hibachi grill is overpriced, but it's good. The bar inside is tucked behind the eating and food service area, and you can occassionally find students in there on weekends singing karaoke at night. It's also a great place to bring your laptop and do your work while you get your grub on. People are mindful and respect your space (at least they have been whenever I pop in), which is a nice change from the Leavey center or other places on campus. You'll also see a lot of hospital staff and med/nursing students in there too. read more

I am only giving them 4 stars because of the price, but even that is up for debate, it is Georgetown, after all... I feel qualified to write this review because I have had at least one meal every day for the last three weeks at Epicurean (my Mom is in the hospital), and I have no complaints! I order from the grill, and every thing that I have had (or the multiple people who have gone with me over the last few weeks), has been really good. No complaints at all. The sandwiches are made to order, the ingredients taste fresh and like quality ingredients and the fries are excellent (huge, share if you are with someone else!). The bars are expensive, so I have not tried anything but there are always a lot of people filling their plates there. The cold bar always looks fresh and is restocked often. The hot bar suffers from what most hot bars have: decent food that probably sits there too long and gets overcooked. The have soups, Giffords Ice Cream, soft serve (icy and gross), tons of different types of interesting chips, yogurts, full cakes and pastries, cereal. Like many have said before, it is a little bit of everything, but in this location, it is needed. read more

I am a big critique about anything and everything Georgetown. This place did blow my mind though. Not only is it in the hospital campus, not only is it a dinning hall and a bar, but it has a dance floor and (wait for it.....) a DISCO BALL!!!! We went there to grab a bite and kill some time since we were early to out doctors appointment, and WOW we walked in to the bar. Their liquor selection is not your average bar in Gtown, but much better, their happy hour prices are reasonable, and the food prices are a bit on the high side but seriously, they cater to professionals in the medical field, patients (we all hate hospital food), and students that attend private universities (not that there is anything wrong with that, I went to a private school as well). read more

I love this place! I go here for the sushi bar and I have never left disappointed. The sushi chef, Pete, provides amazing customer service as well as hospitality. He is super friendly and will occasionally pay for an extra set of rolls (if he knows which one is your favorite) I recommend coming here and I know I will continue to come here! read more

The food is really good but can be repetitive considering that the money doesn't change much over the week.

Okay, a little pricey, yes, but a quality campus/hospital eatery. The buffet is BOMB - but at $8.99/lb for lunch or dinner, you will also feel that explosion in your wallet, folks. I highly recommend whatever the Asian dish of the day is, as well as the sesame kale. The roasted brussels sprouts are for some reason insanely good. Don't forget banana pudding for dessert! Skip the actual chunks of banana as they will add major weight to your box, and therefore major $$$$. Avoid fruit too, while high quality, it is extremely heavy! WORD TO THE WISE: The breakfast buffet is only $6.99 a pound! This morning I got a veggie omelet, hash browns, a turkey sausage patty, and a teeny scoop of corned beef hash for the very un-Epicurean price of $4.30, including tax! I am going to be full for the next five years. The corned beef hash was the best item and I will certainly be back for that. The hash browns were standard grease-bearing shredded potatoes, pretty much what I expected. The omelette was cheeseless (sigh, anyone who knows me knows I am a self-proclaimed cheese enthusiast, so this was a bummer) although I probably missed a sign somewhere that would have warned me of this fact. I pretty much never like turkey sausage so I'm not actually sure why I put this in my box. Yes, for those of you wondering, I ate it anyway. I definitely can't afford to nom the buffet here every day, but in times of need, it's a quality Georgetown University option. read more

I'm a graduate student at Georgetown and I frequent this place. The reviews commenting on the over-priced nature of the buffet are all true. The food is OK and expensive. However, there are a number of very redeeming qualities of this place. First, the sandwiches are all incredible. I've tried most and they are all on point. You can change your bread and add certain extras for minimal to no cost. Second, the BLT sandwich is massive and it's only $4-5 dollars. Add on avocado and hot peppers for less then a dollar more and it's amazing. Finally, the happy hour prices are great. Some of the cheapest happy hour beers in the area. The staff are all friendly and mostly on top of their stuff. read more

I work at the hospital and purchased lunch here yesterday with a credit card. Within an hour, my bank called me to say that my card had been skimmed and was being used, fraudulently, on line and at a motel in Erie, PA. If you enjoy being fiscally gouged by outlandish prices all to the pleasant sound of ambient elevator music, then Epicurean is the place for you. If you're not one for huge disparities between food quality and price, oppressively loud and inane conversations from drunken business students (surprisingly present at all times of day), and disappointed by sushi bar staff who vanish upon the smallest service requests, then Epicurean is not for you. The eclectic selection of stale foods in the a la carte section promises to dash your hopes for any sort of lunchtime satisfaction. You have the difficult dilemma of choosing between General Tso's chicken, seafood salad, cottage cheese, some sort of green soup, and other dishes all equally incompatible with one another; its like meeting a lot of foods your parents stuffed in your grade-school lunchbox that inevitably found their way into cafeteria trashcans. Well, they've all been resurrected to haunt your mealtime goals at the Epicurean buffet! Go ahead and try to order a 'fresh' slice of 'pizza' from the 'deli'...I dare you. Be prepared for a food ordering system that is so convoluted that it will leave you in tears. In true Soviet-esque fashion, print out an order ticket that will have you in a confusing relay between the deli and the cash register, a veritable masterpiece of inefficiency and time-wasting. Oh, don't forget to try the 'bar' that consists of four beer choices and a couple of ornery 'bartenders' that are sure to make you aware of just how badly their day is going. I hope you'll enjoy the extra saliva with your cocktail. If you have five minutes before class and you are literally starving, you should still avoid this place like they were handing out the Ebola Virus at the door. It's a pretty big place conveniently located across from Georgetown Hospital. A lot of the hospital staff tends to go here during breakfast, lunch and happy hour. My most recent time I ate here was for lunch in late August. I ordered one of their hot sandwiches, which was the usual DC pricey fare. I've also eaten their buffet during lunch, where it's pretty overpriced. The food isn't anything to die for, much less spend time to talk about. It's good for convenience though, but don't expect a lot of bang for your buck here. read more

You can't beat the location if you're near Georgetown University Hospital. This food is served cafeteria style, but don't get fooled -- this ain't your mama's cafeteria food. There's a ton of great vegetarian options -- and I don't just mean salad -- but there's plenty of typical stuff, too, like pizza, comfort food, and some kind of Asian item. I wouldn't make a special trip to eat here, but it's definitely the best cafeteria food there is. read more
