I received several platters of breakfast treats today as a gift for my office today from a business partner. The muffins were huge and possibly from Costco... no complaints. The sticky buns were obviously fresh baked and delish but the fruit platter was beautifully designed with fancy cut watermelon to hold the variety of fruits and EVERYTHING was incredibly fresh.

One of my favorite lunchtime meals the Salmon Flatbread Pizza!

Sandella's is one of my favorite spots for lunch! The Salmon Flatbread is so delicious. It's made fresh to order and always piping hot. The ingredients are all natural. I also get the strawberry banana smoothie made with crushed fruit. The wait time is quick I never really have a long wait. It's inside L'Enfant Plaza right across from the Post Office. The customer service is always really good too. I love supporting the local small businesses. Sandella's goes out of there way to make sure customers are happy. There's a small seating area or you can pick up your meal to go and eat upstairs.

Salmon Grilled Flatbread

Was super impressed with their large selection. Yes it is kind of pricey... but oh my gosh the food is worth every penny. I got a salmon flatbread pizza and the salmon was cooked perfectllyyyy. We also got a pineapple coconut smoothie and it so good. Also the majority of the packaging is eco-friendly. Probably the best flatbread i've eaten.

Their smoothies are rip off - poor taste and way overpriced. Additionally, the staff was rude and provided poor customer service

Really enjoyed the local bass which had a crispy skin and was cooked at the perfect amount of tender. The cocktails were good and our server was friendly. The black squid ink pasta was good. I had never been before, and he was seemed curious to try, so we stopped by. They have outdoor seating, but there was no service at the time, which was too bad because the weather was outstanding. The host is said we could take drinks out there, but not food. So we just opted for the bar. Thankfully, they eventually opened one of the doors real wide so the outdoor air was coming in and that was nice. Happy hour was going until 6:30, and I have to admit that some of these happy hour prices are regular prices at other places XD, but remember it's the wharf. And there was a time when happy hour there wasn't even a thing. So I got a glass of wine and yellowtail tacos with salad. I wasn't expecting the yellowtail to be fried, but it was fine. The salad was way bigger than I thought it would be. It was good. My cousin got the burger and fries... I tasted it and I think I enjoyed the burger more, haha. That smoked cheddar, whew! I found the fries to be pretty average. The ambiance of the place is very nice and I could see myself returning. Some other people at the bar got some amazing looking dishes too, but I know they were expensive XD.

In that state, I could only stare dumbly at the menu while standing at the counter. Everything looked like exactly what I wanted to eat. But I finally settled on the smokehouse burger: a Beyond Meat patty topped with onion rings and smoked gouda with a golden BBQ sauce. Extremely satisfying. The employee at the counter recommended the Sriracha aioli to go with my sweet potato fries, and I'm glad she did. It's sharp and savory and adequately balanced the sweetness of the fries, which were nicely crispy. I topped it off with a glass of their refreshing turmeric-tangerine beverage. This place is vegan, fast-casual burgers done right.

As we were walking back towards our hotel, we actually were passing here so I chose it for our din din spot. I thought for sure it was going to be packed but luckily it was not. I knew I wanted a burger but was struggling with choosing which one. Hubs knew he wanted the Cheesesteak and knew I wanted fries. I went with the Smokehouse burger. We grabbed a seat and did not wait long for our food to come out. I really enjoyed my burger and scarfed it down! I paid for sauces, which were tiny and super overpriced. Hubs enjoyed his cheesesteak but he prefers meat. I had a bite and thought it was really flavorful and very closely tasting like the real thing. I noticed later this is a chain, which is pretty cool. I think the prices were pretty steep so I might skip on the fries next time. The food could have been warmer as well. Definitely worth a visit and will most likely be back when in DC again.

However, it didn't live up to the expectations. Upon arriving, my husband and I were shown to a table against the wall that had been set up under some kind of ledge that might normally be used as a bar. I would have had this ledge leaning up against me so I asked if we could move to another table. We were seated at a table in front of the door and the hostess stand, so it was cramped. The tables were extremely packed, I had to use a plastic chair, and the table was wobbly so we had to fix that as well. The day had been a little warm so the door was propped open but when we got to the restaurant, it was really chilly. Since we were right by the door, I asked the waitress if we could shut the door. The waitress said she had to ask the manager and the manager came back and said no. There was a couple next to us who said that they also asked to close the door and the manager said no. My husband ended up getting up and was like Yo dog, it's 40 degrees outside, close the door. They ended up closing the door so like a little sexist? Why will the close a door when a man asks? The waitress asked if we wanted still or sparkling water, and we opted for still. You can imagine our surpris when we found out that we were charged $8.00 for water because we did not specify "tap." We didn't discuss it with the waiter but I thought that was idk, kind of shitty? Everyone knows that you don't pay for the still water We started with the grilled octopus which was ok and we ordered two of the bruschettas. I want to clarify, this meant that we literally got one of each type of bruschetta. I thought we would get like a small plate of both but it was literally two pieces of bread for $12 each. Yikes. I got the short rib pasta which was fine. The sauce wasn't very smooth. My husband got a panini that was also fine but certainly not worth the price tag. For the trouble with asking to move the table, the wobbly furniture, the water, and the door issue, not the best. Won't be returning!

They had a variety of different cocktails, beers, and wines. I was particularly impressed with the Asian beers and Japanese whiskey, you don't find that too often. I really liked the inside, a lot of mahogany wood panels. Old fashion boujie, with a lot of bird art. Service was slow because there was a very large party seated in my section. But to be fair, our waitress tried to be attentive. Once we got our order in though, the food came out pretty quickly. This place is great for romantic dates to huuuge parties of ppl. It wasn't. It was a borderline old fashioned. The food looked like it came from foodpro or another such provider. It wasn't made in house. The ravioli was too perfectly cut, I'd e or y house made for $26 but again it's tourist spot. The wife loved her short rib ragu with meatballs. Which was the same price as my brought in ravioli. Desserts were better than some smaller places we eat at. Not excellent but good enough. Far better places to eat at in DC, but sadly not close to where we were going to see our show. Not bad, but very pricey for what you get.

Still, the quality of the dish makes it worth another visit. Next time I'll probably grab a table instead of bar seating to get the full experience.
