Stopped by Sandella's Flatbread Cafe because I was craving tomato soup and honestly it's surprisingly hard to find a good bowl of tomato soup in the city. This place definitely delivered! The soup was exactly what I needed and tasted great. The people working there were also super kind and welcoming, which gave the restaurant a really homey feel. I originally came just for the soup, but after visiting I'd definitely come back to try other things on the menu. Can absolutely vouch for the tomato soup! Extremely disappointing experience. I stopped by this stand to grab a smoothie for my kid -- I ordered mango and strawberry, expecting fresh or at least real fruit. Instead, the lady started making it using red and yellow syrup, like some kind of sugary slush. When I asked about it, the response was incredibly rude and dismissive. The owners seemed irritated just for having to serve us. Safe to say we won't be coming back. Sandella's is your average bite to eat in the chaos of D.C., especially between work meetings and thensome. L'Enfant Plaza offers a myriad of options from Potbelly, Charlie's, Panda Express, and local restaurants, but I chose to order for Sandella's this time around. The plus here is that the pesto doesn't contain nuts, so I ordered the Tuscan Chicken Panini, which contained grilled chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, red onions, creamy pesto sauce (not creamy but water thin in my opinion), mozzarella, and basil. I received several platters of breakfast treats today as a gift for my office today from a business partner. The muffins were huge and possibly from Costco... no complaints. Sharing this as a public service to prevent further suffering. Where to begin? We visited Sandella's Flatbread after looking for someplace near the musuem we left. I'll start with positive feedback. It is sort of near the museum we left. That's the positive feedback. Once we arrived, we were greeted by two miserable women who in their defense appeared to have possibly been imprisoned by their captor, who we presume is Sandella. Sandella, you bastard, set them free! These miserable women were encased in thick plastic sheeting, perhaps to protect them against projectile vomiting from sorry customers who foolishly ingested their food like substances. But who protects the customers? The restaurant brims with the excitement and ambiance of an extensive TSA screening. Our youngest child sized up the situation and quickly said I'm gonna go get some (actually edible) food somewhere else. Anywhere. Literally anywhere else. And a child shall lead them... Two of us ordered. Let's talk about that. The "pizza" was some kind of cardboard looking discus topped with "cheese" and baked in the old fashioned way, microwaved. The resulting culinary delight could only be described as an anti Italian hate crime. The black bean bowl was, indeed, in a bowl. It appeared as if it belonged in a bowl. A toilet bowl. After sitting down to eat these delights we realized the error of our ways. We stopped back to negotiate a refund but alas, perhaps terrified of Sandella's revenge, they refused. So we tossed the "lunch" and went to get something elsewhere. Someplace with food. California Tortilla is down the hall. Highly recommend it. To the sad Romanian women behind the plastic sheeting, blink twice if you need help. read more

After years of walking by this place, I finally tried it. It was.....not good. I got the vegetarian burrito. It had way too much green bell pepper and lettuce, and way too little guacamole. (Hmm they give you a lot of the very inexpensive ingredients and very little of the expensive ingredient....) The burrito itself was also pretty small considering it's a $12 item (after tax). I rarely see people visit this place, and it seems like they only have one employee working. I'm surprised it's lasted this long. read more

Sandella's is one of my favorite spots for lunch! The Salmon Flatbread is so delicious. It's made fresh to order and always piping hot. The ingredients are all natural. I also get the strawberry banana smoothie made with crushed fruit. The wait time is quick I never really have a long wait. It's inside L'Enfant Plaza right across from the Post Office. The customer service is always really good too. I love supporting the local small businesses. Sandella's goes out of there way to make sure customers are happy. There's a small seating area or you can pick up your meal to go and eat upstairs. read more

For the first year of working at HUD, I would tease one of my coworkers for being the only person I knew who actually ate at Sandella's. He would shrug it off and tell me something like Brazilian sauce is life. Well, one day I finally relented and had a Brazilian Chicken flatbread and my life was forever changed. Well I don't know about life, but certainly my lunch options. Man cannot live on Roti alone, after all. What is Brazilian sauce? Who knows! It's sweet, kind of spicy, and goes well with flatbread, chicken and cheese. Service is always quick, and since high schoolers don't know what Sandella's is there often isn't a crowd even in the highest of tourist season (a problem that plagues other L'Enfant establishments). I have since blessedly moved away from having to eat at L'Enfant plaza, but every time I am back I stop by Sandella's and grab a flatbread that reminds me of the most miserable time of my life. read more

Stopped by L'Enfant Plaza for lunch on a weekday and ordered the Chicken Fajita Rice Bowl. Cost about $12 after tax, which seems a bit overpriced for what you get, especially given the numerous other options within eyesight. Food came out pretty quickly after about a 5 minute wait or so. Taste was alright, sort of on the below average side. Everything is covered in cheese, so it's hard to tell what was actually under it. Small side note - I found the naming convention for my order a little misleading. It's called a "Rice Bowl", but the "bowl" it's served in is a fajita shell. Wouldn't it make more sense to call it a "Chicken and Rice Fajita Bowl"? I suppose it doesn't sound as appealing that way. The description on the menu does properly indicate that it comes in a fajita shell - just thought the name was a little strange. Also, the shell is pretty pointless. They give you a plastic knife, but it's basically impossible to eat the shell with the rest of the food using the knife. You could use your hands to rip the shell up into pieces, but it doesn't seem worth the effort. To be honest, you might as well just put it in an actual bowl like most places. I don't know if it would be cheaper, but it would definitely be faster. read more

Went to L'Enfant with my colleagues and all the restaurants had long lines except for this place. The pictures of the paninis looked amazing so we decided to try the place out for the first time given there were no lines. My panini with a soda was over $10 and it full of cheese, lacked meat and barely any vegetables. When I asked if they can add spinach they charged me $0.75. Given just one guy was waiting ahead of us, our 3 paninis took 10 minutes to get ready. I look at my tiny panini wrapped in flatbread and shocked this tiny thing cost $10. I end up walking back to the place and telling the staff person about why the bread isn't the regular panini bread and why the sandwich is a lot smaller and uglier than the picture. She had nothing to say. I will wait in line and eat at the other places where people give good reviews to. I believe this Sandella's moved here from M St, so this is the only Sandella's location in DC. But yay for more good restaurants in L'Enfant Promenade! Pretty delicious! I got a panini and was confused because it looked like a wrap, but if you look on the website, they use the wrap (or their 'flatbread') and press it on the panini grill. It was PACKED with stuff! And super fresh and super hot. It took at least 5-10 minutes to make, but it was pretty worth it in the end. I got the chicken delicato panini, and there was PLENTY of chicken, and plentyyy of red peppers. I almost burned my tongue multiple times because I was so excited about eating it, but it was so fresh and hot and juicy that it almost ended all my tastebuds immediately. I think a lot of people had issues with the blandness--I have to say it was pretty minimal, but for someone who prefers healthy over ridiculous amounts of fat and unnecessary added ingredients, this was perfect. The staff is friendly, too bad they only have one bench there, though and a round patio table that's a little bit awkward in the little space by their beverage dispensers..... read more

Stopped at L'Enfant Plaza for dinner before a concert and didn't want to pay $$$ for the Wharf restaurant pricing. Most of the restaurants were closed (early, 3:00 on Saturday???) except Sandella's. Sandella's is pretty pricey for what it is, considering that all they give you is flavorless cheese/chicken in a dense wrap. I really would not recommend. Located in the underground mall at L'Enfant Plaza under the National Spy Museum, just off the main food court. It attracted me because it was open (can't say that for many of the food options at this location) and because it presented as a local, fast, and very clean place. I had the chicken caesar wrap. It was amazing!! Wrapped in their signature flatbread it was warm and really flavorful without being overpowering. The chicken had a nice grilled flavor and was tender. I was legit bummed when I ate the last bite. I sat and ate it but it was wrapped well enough to be walking food too. I bought chips and fancy water too, and the whole thing was $20. Well worth it. My cashier was brusque and rude, like I was wasting her time. I get it's not an especially enjoyable job, but they can't hire people who actually have a positive attitude or patience with customers? Ended up eating here by default. It was what I could find at 7:30pm on a Thursday night. I got a chicken pesto panini. It was good, but I would argue not much pesto on it and it was more of a grilled / pressed wrap as the bread was similar to a flatbread or lavish. I wanted balsamic vinegar to dip my panini into (I'm a dipper), but they don't carry balsamic vinegar and if you want vinaigrette, they charge you for it. My sandwich was also blazing hot for like 20 minutes. If there was any bacteria contamination that crap was killed! I also like that they make everything in front of you so you can see what they are doing. Overall decent sandwich, but I would personally ask for extra pesto since I like to stay saucy. read more

I've always loved sandella's in my opinion there aren't enough of them in the world. After the one on M st closed, I was forced to shove the memories of its awesomeness to the back of my mind. Until now, I downloaded the seamless app and was surprised by what I found! Fast forward to the order, I got the chicken quesadilla, created my own salad and topped everything off with a mango-strawberry smoothie. Recommend the veggie and provolone panini which was tasty. Sandwich was tasty. Also recommend getting a soda which seemed fresh and bubbly. Service from Tadelech fast seemed faster after waiting for a question to be answered by an amiable elderly guy who later conferred with Rosa. Note that it took half as much time to get a sandwich today compared to last time I visited so service times appear to be improving. read more

This was the least busy place during a weekday lunch hour and that should've been a red flag for me not to place an order there. Their pizza is nothing to write home about. The crust wasn't even heated or cooked. Tasted bland and proceeded. Toppings were meh and the service--I don't know what was going on. There were only 2 people in line, including myself and I noticed the cashier agitated and talked very rudely to the customer ahead of me. When it was my turn, I received the same cold reception and was asked to be patient even though I hadn't asked for anything. I won't be going back again. This place is pretty petty. I came in search of a salad and they only had 2 salad options listed on their menu. I ordered the Fiesta Salad, which seemed like a Southwestern salad with chicken, black beans, corn, tomatoes and lettuce. The first thing that ticked me off was that it cost too darn much. It almost cost $9, which is RIDICULOUS! It's never that serious to pay that much for a salad. So, I move on from that and I watch the worker make my salad and I see that she hasn't touched half of the offered ingredients behind the sneeze guard. I politely ask for cheese and she said it cost extra. Umm, what? It's a Southwestern salad, why doesn't it already include cheese? Needless to say, the salad was just okay, but if I have to get nickle and dimed for each additional item in a salad, then clearly this isn't the place for me. PS I enjoy cucumbers and croutons in my salad, but apparently if the cheese cost extra, I know adding those items would've cost me an arm and a leg. Just Petty! read more

I really like this place. I have never been to, but I deliver from it several times a week. Maybe there is not a big diversity in the menu, but count the "make your own" category and the possibilities are limitless. They always pay attention to the changes and extras I request and they have a super fast delivery. The friendly delivery people are the cherry on top of the cake. read more

We saw the menu for this restaurant and immediately got excited at all the options they had. We decided to order through grubhub. The order came an hour a land a half late and was cold. The food quality is awesome. You get the restaurant food in a fast food style. The atmospher is well designed and have a friendly customer services. I've been into couple Sandella's branches in past. They were not bad niether awesome. However, this branch change my thoughts toward Sandella's food quality and comfy location. I used to walk by this place but never came to my mind to give it a try again. However, since then everyday, anytime i walk by their place I go there and order as many as i want. Even though they're not serving food like their competitors and you have to choose only from their menu options, but you have the choice to redirect them toward what you want to include or exclude from your food by telling the cashier.
