I have to agree with highland s. on their prices. this place is ridiculously expensive. now, we did not eat here, we only came in for drinks while celebrating a birthday but any of the small collections of cocktails they have are going to cost a minimum of ten dollars. they are quite good though, we tried the wildflower and big Apple, both run ten bucks. one of our group did a mohito, 12. my boyfriend got a glass of the 16 year old Islam scotch, not even two fingers will run you 18 dollars! for eight people to have one drink and one person got a plate of sushi that ran almost twenty dollars, our tab came to 110. our birthday boy wasn't even given a free drink, even though waiter said he would. this place has an absolutely wonderful atmosphere and the staff are professional, courteous and social, the food smelled excellent and looked just as well and the menu descriptions make them appetizing, unfortunately this place is just too expensive for any restaurant in this area. if you want a wonderful meal head to The Palace at the end of Main. you will not be disappointed. read more

Based on reviews ordered Calamari - ok but sauce was a little sweet and surprisingly not on the side, and Caesar Salad - just barely OK - too much dressing and not crisp lettuce. Our friends had crab sushi roll and liked it a lot. Service was ok relative to time and efficiency but not at all friendly beyond the very basics. Maybe they didn't like that we only ordered appetizers and salad - had they been more friendly - we typically make up for that in the tip... But not this time! Ambiance was very nice. Transitioned to a glass of Bourgogne Chardonnay. Cold and perfect for what is next. Will admit this is my third time at Eolus. The owner, Chris was at up front checking things out saw me, extended his hand and immediately remembered our last and first introduction. During that conversation I informed him my first dining experience yielded what remains to date the finest and most incredible meal I have ever had in the entire state of Colorado. That includes every major and known restaurant from Denver to Telluride. Tonight I opted for the highly touted Lobster Burger and I'll admit to being anxious. It's excellent. We were visiting friends in Durango from NY and were looking to have a special meal. The food, ambiance (sit on the roof top deck if you can) and service were amazing. I had the NY strip special and the steak was perfectly cooked. Nice char on the outside and medium rare on the inside. It was the best steak I ever had. The mustard mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were perfect accompaniments. The chocolate trio was the perfect end to the night. I cannot say enough about our server Mikayla. She was attentive, gave great suggestions and was fun to talk to. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a memorable meal. read more

Absolutely amazing food and service in one of the most popular places in Durango. The menu is diverse but heavy to meats with the emphasis on local sources for everything, wine included. We went on a very busy Fri evening and were seated in an aisle way in the tented upper area - reservations heavily recommended here. My wife had the duck which was sublime, cooked perfectly. We had a great experience at Eolus. The bartender was so much fun. She was truly a passionate mixologist. The food was very good. We had a Thai style soup that was as good as it gets. The sushi roll was delicious and the scallops were superbly prepared. Our server was great and accommodated our eclectic style of dining and made sure all was perfect. The salads were the weak spot. My Caeser was overdressed and soggy. The lettuce wasn't cold enough. Tina's salad was also heavily dressed. Fix the salads and this is a solid 5 star in Durango... Stopped in for dinner around 6:15ish on a Thursday and got right in. I liked the fact that they offered every salad on the menu as a side salad size. I had the beet goat cheese salad, it was really good. My dh had the caesar salad. It was mot traditional, containing avocado. He had the pork chop for dinner, which was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I had the duck breast, which was served over a bed of coconut jasmine rice. Outstanding, service, food and atmosphere! The seafood stew was excellent but for the first time in a long time my wife has out ordered me! She got the lobster cheese burger made with Wagyu Beef that was unbelievable! I was almost ready to order one to go and the truffle fries were on point as well. 30 minutes to get a drink. Starter of pan seared sea scallop with prime rib bacon on a sweet potato chip... In-cray-ob-lay!!! Duck confit with fig risotto, now that's a well done dish. Great flavors! Crab stuffed chicken was my wife's entree and she says "I can't describe just how much I love it because my mouth is still full"! Needless to say we both cleaned our plates. Now I'm wondering where our tempura blue crab sushi roll is that we ordered? It never arrived and was supposed to be our second course. We were not charged for it but that's not the point. At least 4 other tables got their sushi roll but not us. Our waiter was obviously not having his best night. Other than that, dinner was sensational. read more

Really great meal. Highly recommend this place. I walked by three times before going in. I was a little confused by the name and the menu. I thought it was a sushi place because the appetizers are heavily influenced by sushi dishes. The entree menu was more diverse. We had the appetizer special which was a fried rice cake with a tuna layer and a fried jalapeño slice and avocado slice with a fabulous sauce drizzled on top. Great service too! We had dinner on the rooftop and were more than impressed. My wife had fresh Yahoo with gnocchi and fresh spinach which was stunningly presented and delicious. Somehow the fish was smoky on the surface and perfectly prepared. I had pan roasted duck breast in a unique vinaigrette sauce and shredded duck confit which was supposed to go over coconut rice but I substituted gorgonzola mashers which worked out great. You won't believe what happened at Eolus Bar & Dining! My daughter had her reception on the rooftop and just as we got settled, Durango had a major storm and the power was knocked out in most of Durango. But the staff and owners of this amazing establishment stepped up, lit candles, continued to serve appetizers, bread and drinks. They were able to keep the grill working and by flashlight they served all 50+ guests EXACTLY what they had ordered! It was an amazing night for my daughter and our guests BUT only because everyone at Eolus made it work for us! This was by far the best food I have eaten! Fine dining at its best. Service was perfect. Food was well presented and very Good. I recommend the surf And turf or the filet. Both were cooked to PERFECTION. You will only need a good appetite for your meals. The chef provides everything else. The desserts were an awesome conclusion to a perfect meal. On 09 August 2018 my wife and I were visiting Durango and walking the downtown when we passed the Eolus Bar and Dining. A young gentlemen was outside the door and I asked what they had to offer in this restaurant. We made a reservation for 11 August @ 5:00 P.M. and were not disappointed. The food came out as entrees with the right timing between them. The food was excellent, tasty, hot, plenty of bread with olive oil and served with appeal. They played music that was appreciated and not loud to carry on a conversation. The entire restaurant was very clean and modern. Constant attention by many servers to ensure that everything was right but not over bearing. The main reason I wanted to write this memo, which I have never done before for any restaurant is because of the owners & staff! Being in the food business at a very young age both in restaurant and fast-food and conducting food surveys I found that this management was the best in the business I've ever noted. The staff is trained not only on what their jobs are but on wine tasting to know what they are talking about to the customer. They didn't chit chat while working, the emphasis of the customer was not only by the waitress we had but by the entire staff. They were constantly working and at times I saw as many as five (5) yes, that's right, 5 staff including the General Manager/Owner serving a group of 6 patrons their food. The harmony of the staff was like a fined tuned orchestra...I'm not joking! James Allred is General Manager/Owner and was kind enough to stop by our table and we chatted (very personable) and Chris Crowl-Chef/Owner (outstanding Chef) whom I did not meet, have a fine dining establishment that will be there for years too come! So that's not only my 2-cents worth but a patrons that appreciated the staff, what we were served, the service and the owners oversight. I know you will also. By the way, this is fine dining as mid-price and the gentlemen standing outside the doorway when I asked what the establishment had to offer... was none other than James Allred- General Manager/Owner. read more

I gave a review 3 months ago that was 5 stars. The reason I was able to, was because in the 4 years I've been bringing people here and eating here, the servers that brought me back were Austyn and Mikayla. NOT because of the food. The food at most is average. These two ladies always went above and beyond for my groups and myself. Not to mention the menu hasn't changed AT ALL. I can't believe they can still be in business serving the same ole same ole. "If it ain't broke don't fix it" I guess. I went in to have what I thought would be a relaxing evening for my daughter and I (the parents out there know how desperately you want to have a nice evening out when you do finally go out...) I spent 65+ on just myself and daughter and I got treated with the rudest experience that I've had as a mother. I was somehow blessed with a GREAT baby, people who hate kids love her. She cries 1 percent of the time. I was on the roof top with two other tables (NO ONE WAS SITTING DOWNSTAIRS..) My daughter is at the babbling stage so she was just babbling, and a rude customer who was finished with his meal may I add, turned around and YELLED "GUYS PLEASE" in the most rude condescending voice as he gesticulated aggressively. I didn't do anything more because I was in shock. I told my server about what happened and she apologized immensely, and tried to calm me down but I was so upset I was speechless. Even the table next to me said something after the rude guy left. They wanted to play with my daughter and say hi because she was being so sweet and cute. (If the restaurant was actually packed it would have been much louder than my daughter babbling) I thought when my server told the manager that he'd also be disgusted with the situation. What happened? He said "that guy is a regular" After talking with multiple employees who've worked there for years, they all confirmed they had never seen the guy before. This manager didn't apologize to me, didn't offer to comp my tab ((which I'm used to ASK THEM ABOUT THEIR FRIENDS AND FAMILY DISCOUNT) ;) Not to mention my burger was disgustingly over cooked...I don't think there was even lobster on it) I even heard this new manager YELLING at the staff. The server he was yelling at was a server I personally hired to work at the restaurant I used to manage awhile back. She is one of the best servers I've had work with/for me, and I know for a fact that there was no justification for how he was talking to her ABOUT ME, IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS. I've seen tables get up and hug this lady because she is that personable with her tables. Unfortunately this manager (names Jason I think?) I have had a rude experience with before. He used to work at Chimayo, and my boss and I were had a business meeting. We dropped over 200 dollars on our meal, and the same manager that Eolus has now was our server. There was one other table in the restaurant and he couldn't get our orders right, and refused to get me the salad I wanted (even though the chefs would make it for me every time I came in..literally that was the only thing I ordered there, so I knew he was just lazy and didn't want to go check with the chefs. My boss was just as upset because he forgot to get us wine when we asked, dressing when we asked. Something I learned when I started in this industry when I was 14. I am fine dining trained, and this establishment doesn't come anywhere near. I'm am very shocked that James hired this guy. He walks around like someone just chopped off his head. And he was sitting at the bar doing paperwork when I was leaving. Until every guest has left, there shouldn't be any servers more or less managers sitting down. Never have I encountered a restaurant with such a snobby vibe. I am a minority, and it is obvious that a rude older Caucasian man is their priority (I imagine they think he must have more money.) I guess "someone like me" wouldn't have the money they are interested in. If you're a parent save yourself the dirty looks and boring food. Especially if you're not Caucasian. El Moro always welcomes me with a smile when I walk in with my daughter, and so do a lot of other restaurants in town. I've taken groups here, and have been coming here for years like I mentioned. I will now never go back, and will make sure everyone I know hears about the discrimination I faced here. The especially unfortunate part is I know these two will ignore my review and act like I'm being unreasonable. I gave y'all a chance, and even gave you a 5 Star review. Im now forced to put 1 Star. If you see 5 stars on here I'm willing to bet it's because they are tourist (who don't have to deal with the same menu every time like us locals) Or an older Caucasian people because of course, their meal is going to be handled with absolute care. I'll just go eat out of the dumpster behind their building. Next review is to trip advisor, Google, and wherever else I can leave a review. read more

I don't know how many times we have asked for no aioli only to have it slathered or drizzled all over our burger, sushi roll...sometimes more than once on the same visit! We had a party of four and upon entering the place we asked the manager if they could do a well done filet without burning it. He assured us they could. Upon the steaks arrival it was burned and mostly inedible. Unhappy I talked to the waitress. She came back later and told me the manager and chief told me that's what happens to well done steaks. The manager didn't even have the courtesy to appear at our table or offer any apology. Our other meals were less than desirable as well. Would not recommend this place period. read more

Last night ordered the $50 steak special. The meat was so tough and stringy it was completely inedible. The server asked if we wanted something else and my wife asked for extra mashed potatoes. Got the check and saw that not only were we not credited anything for the inedible steak, they charged us extra for the mashed potatoes! $150 for 2 for the worst meal I've ever had. Had dinner here tonight. Lovely place. Super waitress. Food looked pretty but I had three dark hairs in my duck with an arugula base. It was like someone brushed their hair in my meal. Disgusting!
