2nd restaurant visit since new owner's took over, again I was disappointed in the service that I got. The food was as good if not better than the previous owner, the ambiance has remained as before and the bar and the staff there are great, but my problem is with the food servers, they just don't care. A food server brought our food and our food server never checked on us till my partner had just one bite left. It was a birthday celebration and we were offered a free desert but after waiting for the server to return and take our order we just paid our bill and went somewhere else for desert. As we sat there eating our deserts and having a drink the waitress checked in, just a quick how is everything as she was walking by with her hands full. A few kind words go a long way, and as I said this was our second restaurant visit and it was the same as the first so it is not just a server it is bad training of the staff, but hey the good is very good and that is why we go out to eat, right? read more

Their guacamole rivals any five star Tex-Mex operation I've ever been to..... I'm loyal to Texas and Mexican cuisine there (the absolute best). But..... But this guacamole was absolutely incredible !....taste, freshness, and a perfect amount of fire roasted, jalapeño kick without being too hot. We had truly the best gluten free pizza crust I've ever had at Chimayo! A great, eclectic restaurant right on Main Street in Durango. It was busy when we arrived around 7ish and it was busy but we were able to grab bar seating. One thing to note - they do close early here, even on the weekends. They're only open until 8pm. Gluten free Wild Mushroom Pizza: WOW. We were blown away. My friend is gluten intolerant and both of us have never had such a delicious gluten free crust before that tastes just like pizza dough. It was doughy and light and delicious. The pizza toppings were equally amazing - topped with cheese and a variety of mushrooms and truffle. We didn't want to stop eating it! Roasted Warm Veggie Salad: Amazing, the balsamic dressing on this was so fresh and good. The veggies were deliciously roasted and it was topped with a yummy whipped goat cheese. They had an extensive drink menu here as well with a bunch of great cocktails. They also had a really cute holiday themed cocktail menu as well. We stumbled upon this place when the place we had picked out was actually busy. The atmosphere is fantastic. Brick walls. Offset lighting. Fantastic ambience. Serving staff was extremely professional. We had a serve by the name of Nick. But as we looked around the restaurant and noticed their entire staff and Chef crew in the back that you can see from your table are very professional. Very unique for a tourist town. We chose the Chimayo bread for an appetizer. It was fantastic. Way better than Texas roadhouse dinner rolls with a very unique butter/honey Spread. My wife shows the cauliflower steak. Extremely well prepared. Cauliflower was a 1 inch stick slice of cauliflower with roasted cherry tomatoes, zucchini, wedge, tomatoes, shaved Parmesan, and a very nice light seasoned sauce on top. Fantastic. I chose the flatbread steak sandwich because of the reviews and the recommendation by the server. It was also fantastic. Made with their pizza dough. Had lunch on April 5, 1130 am. Our server was Desirae C and there was a service manager with an earring, and refused to give me his name. Desirae attention to service was poor. She just took order and brought order, that it. No follow ups, forgot to bring one drink and also booster seat. I had to go get the drink, I had to go to, ironically the service manager, to remind him that we need a booster seat. As we were walking out, I asked the guy, if I can speak to the manager. And he says he is, so I politely informed him that the service was terrible. That's when all went down hill, where he had a smirk on his face and responded something to the effect of, thanks for the feedback. No follow through, so I asked for anyone else, he said he's it. I asked for his name, he refused to give me his name. I asked for business card, he says he's doesn't have one. I asked for owners info, he says he either doesn't have it or don't know, That's when things got heated. I went to the bar and ask the staff for same info and all they said, he was it. He tried to recover at that point and finally asked what were the discrepancies. And I told him, he was the first discrepancy. He was extremely disrespectful. And rest of their staff was just as complicit, perhaps they're just as bad or they're scared of him. read more

I liked this restaurant. It had a good atmosphere. I didn't get any "weird owner" vibes like other reviewers. We went on a Saturday night and the place was packed. We really enjoyed the acorn fondue and decided to start making a variation of this at home. It's a great idea! We also took the recommendation of others and had the mushroom pizza, which was really delicious. They had a good wine list, but no decanters. If you have bottles in the $100 range, it would be good to have a few around. Otherwise, I'd go back for the pizza and a glass of wine any day! read more

The service at this place is alright. However, we felt rushed the minute we sat down. The food was alright. The price for the food, however, was too high for the quality. I ordered the beef medallions (medium rare) and they were unseasoned and overcooked. The potatoes and asparagus were nice. The ambiance of the restaurant is very welcoming and the host at the front counter was very pleasant to speak with. Unfortunately, Durango doesn't have a lot of nicer restaurants so you are limited to a handful. This is probably one of the better ones, but I don't think I'll be going again. read more

The Good: The Steak Flatbread Sandwich was spectacular and hands down an explosion of flavors on my first bite. Their on tap stout beer was a perfect compliment to my sandwich. The Chimayo bread with their Chipotle butter was mouth watering. Very nice atmosphere. Staff was friendly. Quick service. The rustic dessert was a good ending to a great meal. The Bad: The fire roasted Jalapeño guacamole barely had any Jalapeño and was sorta bland. This restaurant genuinely cares about their Celiac customers!! I asked the host about their gluten free labels on their menu and if the gf items were celiac safe. He instantly brought me to the back of the restaurant, where I could see what dishes were prepared where, which dishes would be a higher vs. lower risk of cross contamination, and talk to members of the kitchen. They explained which dishes would be safest for me. The host even said something along the lines of, "I'm happy to answer whatever questions you have. We take both Celiac and food allergies very seriously. We do not want to do anything to hurt you." It's been a long time since a restaurant has gone above and beyond that much to make me feel safe eating somewhere new. I ordered the Blueberry Summer Sparkler mocktail, which was delicious. I asked the bartender to rinse the measurement devices and stirring spoon prior to making my drink. For food, I got the Palisade Peach Salad with Chicken Breast, and everything about it was perfect! I don't like pickled things, so I ordered it without the pickled onions. The salad was packed with flavor and the ingredients were well balanced and complimented each other very well. I'm typically picky with salads and had no complaints! I will definitely be visiting this restaurant again. I felt so appreciated and safe. Eating out with Celiac is always a risk, but this restaurant's knowledge of cross contamination and willingness to explain how their dishes are prepared made me feel so comfortable. I highly recommend this place to people with Celiac. I'm very sensitive to cross-contact, and I felt amazing after eating here. Recommended by our hotel for it's fire roasted food. Did not disappoint. Nothing's cheap in Durango and this popular place is no exception. But it has a very nice ambience and comfortable, bustling feel to it. Wish I could recall our waiter's name as he was awesome. Dave? We had the roasted carrot starter and it was excellent with some nice sauces. Had those on the side so I don't really know how this would be presented by the kitchen but it was still very enjoyable. I had the mushroom pizza. Very good. Not the best I have ever had by a fair margin but still very good and I ate the whole thing. My wife had the roast chicken dinner which was declared excellent. Parking not abundant on the Main Street in Durango, but worth fighting for to go here! Prompt service, food presented well and hot. I got the sense of a well-managed establishment which delivers. The wild mushroom pizza was greesy and soggy in the middle due to the garlic oil they pour on it. The mushrooms were good so I just picked those off and ate themI was able to eat the edge of the crust because it wasn't soaked with greese. The server Alex was very nice but the food could have been much better. They need to cook the dough before they put the toppings on it and then refire to melt the chesse and cook the mushrooms. Also the carmelized onions were not a good choice for this pizza. They added sweetness that wasn't needed with the savory mushrooms. read more

I was not recommended to go here but we had a solid meal here. I had the steak frites and a little different take on a traditional steak frites but nonetheless it was great. The portion size was excellent, flavor was great. It was between the pork loin and steak frites and even though the pork loan was more expensive our waiter recommended the steak frites which you know you are getting a good waiter and honest instead of getting the upsell. I truly appreciate and recognize it. My kids had pizza which they both loved. I love the pictures on the wall near the restroom and the soap dispensers in the bathroom. Great prices too. i've eaten here w/ friends for a couple years, pizza was amazing, crust so perfect, rich flavor, perfect blend of toppings and spices. everything we ordered was wonderful. so last night we stopped in. prices had gone up alot so be prepared for sticker shock; med pizza was $20 for a simple cheese to $28. menu was definitely smaller, ordered the fish tacos, friend got the burger. burger was minimal he compared it to freddies. fish tacos had no flavor, rice and beans while well made, had no flavor, no salsa. the pizza was burned, outside edges were black, crust was wet on the bottom and well hard and burned on the edges. i ordered the mesa verde margarita and it was really good, small old fashioned glass but it was unique, not too sweet, loved it! when we came this summer, bread was complementary, baked there and amazing, last night it is now $6 and was not anything special. idk, there were alot of empty tables on a sunday night, other restaurants were packed. last summer it was always full. last year the owners came over and asked how we liked it and discussed how they developed the bread and pizza dough recipes. hoping it improves again. i just can't see paying $20 for a small pizza w/ burned crust. service was ok, love the booths! read more
