Ordered a peach burrata salad to share and was disappointed in the amount of fresh fruit on the plate. Almost none and in small pieces - plate loaded with greens and overdressed. Burrata was a bit on the stingy side - flavors were good - just expected a lot more slices and ample portion of fresh peach for this type of dish. Pizza was fine and tasty. My hamburger was good too. The meat could have been ground a bit finer - but flavors were good. Fresh peach dessert was AMAZING. Really amazing crust, seasoning and with vanilla ice cream just perfect. Interesting blend of decor and crazy. Pass on eating here, but it makes for an entertaining read. Open seats, controlling helicopter hovering owner. Coming in we were told we could have a seat but could not order until the owner gave her approval. Good enough we sat at the bar for a drink and waited in our timeout. First and foremost trust your staff to run it. 15 minds are always better then one. As we waited for dinner approval we learned all kinds of things. Ben in the kitchen is about to quit, owner drinks white wine all night, a glass display art show is happening by the owner and the attention to the kitchen output or customers was put aside. The show of how not to run a restaurant was the best part. Sad was the experience and the lack of value was not there for the food or experience. The owners seem tired and burned out, the place looks nice and sure if they wanted to recover their lost magic they could turn it around. read more

Nothing to complain about here, there have been some negative reviews about the owner but we met her and talked to her and she was lovely, we were found two seats at the bar immediately in what was a very crowded restaurant. We enjoyed excellent martinis plus tried their house San Juan Martini, the cardamom bitters shone through. Our bartender was attentive and confident in a nice way, he knew his job and he knew what was good. The house salad was exceptional, romaine, jicama, cornbread croutons and toasted pepitas with parmesan in a light creamy cilantro dressing. I have made it at home three times this week and Pablo is addicted to pepitas now. We added a margarita pizza and added caramelized onions and capers and it was deliicous. We had no expectations going in and it exceeded everything we could have hoped for. Thank goodness for Danish sensibility and management. read more

Sauce may taste over the top/sour for some. DON'T add extra bistro beef for $9!!!! I got it done medium so it was kinda hard to chew & not worth for the 4 pieces of meat. Beef Tacos & Fish Tacos: Both good & beautiful. Pretty filling, especially with the sides. Chimayo House Burger: Can't go too wrong with burgers at restaurants. Yummy but kale in the kale-jicama slaw side was a bit rough/old. San Danielle Pizza: Too tomato-y & not as "baked" as expected (see image). Quaint restaurant in the heart of downtown with charming decor and a nice open air environment. The wait staff is lovely! We had an awesome waitress who was incredibly attentive and eager to chat with us about Durango. Now into the food, the chips and guac were average. I felt like I make better at home it was missing basic seasoning. The main entree was excellent. A nice light fish with spectacular zoodles (never thought I'd say that) the fish sauce the zoodles sat on top of was the star of the show. I don't post often and when I do, it's to recommend a restaurant based on a positive experience. This time, I am posting a warning to stay away from Chimayo in Durango, Colorado. The cocktails were almost undrinkable with a cheating short pour, the service was non-existent and the food wasn't good. However, the worst part of our experience was the nasty owner/manager who spewed negativity. Goodwill and customer service must not be part of her make up. She is definitely in the wrong business. The night we were there, other customers got up and left after dealing with her. Chimayo is the place to skip if you are visiting or residing in Durango. PS - I see other comments about the nasty owner from back about a year ago. There are more on other sites. Bad experience. read more

Really delicious, nice atmosphere for a birthday dinner with 3 generations of family. Chimayo bread and cornbread were tasty, nice chipotle honey butter. Fish tacos, steak sandwich, cauliflower steak, and (enormous) salads were all hits. Service was really, really good, and it wasn't so loud that conversation was difficult. So my kid has lived in Durango the last several years and we have made it a challenge to try all the restaurants in town. We have a handful left and Chimayo is on the list. First off, this is one of the more expensive places in town. My expectations were high. We ordered the guacamole and salsa starter. The guacamole was super fresh as well as the salsa but both lacked spice and seasoning. Spice in Colorado seems to be an issue. My kid got the beef medallion marinated in chili arbol and I ordered the margarita pizza (I'm also on the hunt for the best pizza in Durango) The beef was cooked perfectly and topped with a spot on chimichuri sauce. It was served with potato wedges and green beans. The potatoes were a little disappointing since they looked crispy but weren't. Green beans were cooked well nothing noteworthy. My pizza was very average. Way too much cheese for the floppy crust. I swear just give me a good pizza in Durango! The service was great. I think Chimayo was above average (not the pizza) and if you have a bit of cash to spend worth the meal. read more

Have eaten at Chimayo a few times and neither excited me. Portions are small and prices are large. Poblano chili was ok but nothing to get excited about. The side of beans and rice, just meh and inadequate portions. Salads are fine but again, nothing special. Burger was over cooked. Chips and guacamole were fine but again, costly for the portion size. Smoked salmon cake was very small and the side salad was less than 1/4 cup of mixed greens, no other veggies, just plain and meh - literally 3 small bites - could have passed for a garnish. Lamb ragu hummus plate was bland, served with a few pita wedges. Presentation on all dishes are lacking. Cocktails were ok but can get better elsewhere. Server was fine, not overly friendly and seemed preoccupied. C'mon Chimayo! You have a great location in a beautiful town. Step it up! But that's just me. I thought it was bland overall. Crust was good though. I wonder how many restaurants pour the cheapest wine on the menu when you ask for the more expensive wine by the glass. How would you know? You never see the bottle. They either bring the glass of wine straight to you or bring a small carafe and pour it in your glass at the table. Hmm. Bless our server because I asked him 3 times to come back to take our order. I was so indecisive because I wanted sweet brunch food, but they only had an orange marmalade and lemon french toast, which is a little too much citrus. Then I wanted to order the roasted flatbread sandwich, but didn't realize it was a pita sandwich (I know, duh). Overall the taste was good, but I thought the bacon was an odd addition because it seemed like a BLT clashing with a southwest salad. The chicken was not cut into neat pieces but rather just stuffed in the sandwich as a large thick chunk, which made it difficult to eat. Definitely order the potato wedges as a side though they can be a little salty. The really smart move is to order the Chimayo sauce on the side, so you can dip the potatoes in it. My dad ordered the chicken, apple, and quinoa salad. In all honesty, it looked gross like lettuce out of a bag and just a bit on quinoa thrown in there to say there's quinoa in there. So overpriced for what you'd get ordering this. Same slab of chicken thrown on here as well. read more
