We came for breakfast durng a trip to visit our son in Durango. Very popular, and the parking lot is small, so finding a spot can be challenging. While we were fortunate enough to find a good spot, our son had to park down the street. Despite being crowded on a Sunday morning, and the place being small, with limited seating, we were shown a very nice corner table by the window. Our server was a very nice woman, athletic-looking, with glasses. She did an excellent job of taking care of us, and was very warm and friendly. My wife had a veggie scramble; I had the breakfast burrito. The burrito was large, with eggs, hash browns, and your choice of meat; I chose sausage. It was smothered in a tasty green chile sauce, along with sour cream. Very delicious, though I might ask for a red sauce next time. So far, Rupert's is our favorite breakfast spot in town. read more

Absolutely phenomenal breakfast. I got the breakfast burrito with chorizo, smothered in their house-made pork green chile, and it was seriously one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. Absolutely packed with flavor and worth every penny. The vanilla latte was excellent too. They have a legitimate espresso setup right there, and you can tell immediately that this isn't just basic restaurant coffee. The latte was smooth, flavorful, and exactly what I was looking for. What really topped it off was the service. Everyone I interacted with was kind, courteous, welcoming, and genuinely seemed happy to help. Even though they were extremely busy, my to-go experience was easy and pleasant. After a frustrating breakfast experience somewhere else in Durango earlier this morning, Rupert's completely turned my morning around. Fantastic food, excellent coffee, great people. Wonderful little breakfast spot. We found it this morning as we were searching for a good breakfast burrito. They nailed it! Great breakfast burritos! My wife and I each ordered ours smothered in green chili. She had chorizo, and I went with the slow roasted pork. They were both outstanding. The green chili is some of the best in Colorado. These burritos are now tied with our favorite breakfast burrito in the state. We visited on a Friday morning in August. It was busy, almost every table was full, but we were sat immediately. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the food came out timely. We won't forget this place when we visit Durango. NPO since 8 pm day before I was ready for some food and caffeine since diagnostic testing was over. Came to Rupert's based off reviews....they didn't disappoint. What a hopping cafe. I ordered the vegan French toast and a side of bacon. Having a severe egg allergy makes breakfast choices out limited. The cinnamon on the French toast gave it the right crisp plus the maple syrup was spot on for my taste buds. The bacon is thin strips which aren't my thing I prefer thick cut bacon. It has a few counter seats and then as many tables as can be put inside for seating. Turnover of tables was quick. Many people came and went. I enjoyed my hot tea and read while I ate. read more

Had to take the truck to Ford because a chipmonk chewed thru a wire. Sigh. It was 10am and breakfast sounded good. Found this nice little place. So cool inside with crazy toasters on the walls. Also seating outside. Service was great and with a smile. I had the Animas breakfast which was bacon and eggs with 2 delicious potato cakes and wheat toast. Very good. Coffee good. The wife had corn beef hash with 2 over easy eggs on top. She loved. I knew it as soon as I read their menu. She likes different stuff. Hit this place up on the way out of town. We had to wait a half hour due to this place being popular, but we had a large group of 7. Once we sat down though, they were super fast handling all of our orders and requests! I really enjoyed my Truffle Scramble. I like how they make it so easy to personalize their scrambles. I added ham, mushrooms and avocado to mine for slight additional fees. My husband enjoyed his steak and eggs. We ordered their special chorizo bread pudding entree and a shareable because we couldn't resist that savory and sweet option! I highly recommend the vanilla chai latte. Visiting Durango every once in a while we usually stick to restaurants within walking distance of main street but during our last visit, a worker in a local store asked if we'd ever been to Rupert's because they had the best chicken fried steak and banana nut French toast - so that's exactly what we did and we'll always go back! The restaurant is near the edge of town, tucked away. It's small, so it seems to fill up quickly but the wait wasn't too bad. We had the best server! He was happy, friendly and very busy as he was juggling lots of tables but didn't miss a beat with refills, checkins and answers to all my questions. Deliciousness! I had the Southwest Benedict. The eggs were softly poached to perfection. They kindly asked if that preparation would be acceptable. Hubby had the Huevos Rancheros and added pulled pork. Both dishes were packed with flavor. The pulled pork on both was so moist. I read they are known for their potato pancakes and they have a right to be. The service was great. Coffee and waters were kept filled and they checked on us to make sure we were happy with the dishes. We sat outside with our two dogs. THIS IS NOT CJ's and Ruperts is anything but "The best of Durango" Yes, I totally miss CJ's and the diverse crowd that used to frequent CJ's in the mornings along with Jerry, making the rounds and talking to the regulars. Rupert's menu only has about 20 items on it and if you like the fact that all of the food is overcooked, maybe you'll enjoy it. The server might note that the bacon isn't soft/limp and the eggs with brown on them were not lightly scrambled or soft because whoever takes your order is usually too busy gossiping at the counter and a runner brings out the food. Servers don't wear name tags and they've never introduced themselves but regardless, service is poor and they'll take your order and deliver the check but don't expect much in between. I recently did a business transaction and because we discussed business over breakfast, the other party only assumed that I liked Rupert's as much as I loved CJ's and I was given a $75 gift card to Ruperts. Because they can't do limp bacon or lightly scrambled eggs and because their sausage gravy is about the worst I've had with way too much black pepper and not enough sausage or other flavors, over a year had passed before I finally tried to use the $75 gift card from my friend. My friend purchased and printed the gift card online and when I went to use it for two meals ($48), in spite of having a confirmation code on the paperwork, it did not have a 12 or 16 digit code for the server to look up and she said she couldn't run the card. I suggested calling the owner (Tim) in Boulder and then the manager got involved. He failed to introduce himself as the manager or by name and said that he needed more numbers to run the gift card. He offered no other remedy or recommendation of how we should proceed other than me stopping back to talk to the owner later in the week. We spent $48 on overcooked eggs and crispy bacon that we couldn't send back because our server never checked on us after the food arrived. Admittedly, the Eggs Benedict is always nicely done and so if you don't mind poor service and spending $25+/head for breakfast, they do know how to poach an egg. My friend that gave me the gift card would be heartbroken if she knew that the card didn't work and I'm out $48 for an inferior meal most of which went to the dogs. I'm annoyed and I'm angry that the manager that didn't introduce himself made no attempt to remedy the issue or offer an alternative other than checking back every day for the owner to pop up. I've frequented the address for Ruperts for 20+ years and it is anything but, "Durango's Best" and in the unlikely event it wins best diner for 2025, definitely check out the Durango Diner, Denny's or Oscars before trying Ruperts with won't offer much more than poor service. Rupert's is your pretty standard breakfast diner place, friendly staff, regulars hanging in their corner, and the smell of eggs and pancakes in the air. I got the deluxe steak burrito. The steak wasn't too exceptional and was pretty standard for a breakfast burrito. What stuck out to me was the potato in the burrito was soft, almost to the same consistency of a mashed potato. The smoothness of the potato made it easier to incorporate into each bite. The pork green chili and red chili weren't very spicy or stand out in any way but did make a nice flavor mix when combined. I wish it was spicier though and had to add some Cholula for some more spice and flavor. I got a glass of orange juice that was way too average for $5. Might be improved if gotten as a mimosa. I'd recommend it here if you are looking for a suitable breakfast place. read more

Fabulous breakfast! Endless coffee and great service. We shared the breakfast burrito and it was fantastic. Maybe the best breakfast burrito smothered with green chile that we've ever had, including the ones we make at home which is saying something! We were amazed how busy it was for a Monday morning but we got seated in 5 minutes and our breakfast came out fast and fresh. Our server was lovely.
