Loved this little breakfast spot in Durango. We were looking for a breakfast spot on the way out of Pagosa Springs and back to California. It was hard to tell much from the yelp reviews but the website had a great menu that seemed to be more on quality than just quantity. We got there around 8ish on a Sunday and it was pretty busy. There's a small parking lot but you may need to park on the street. After a small wait we got seated in a booth by the corner. The waitstaff was very friendly and nice and we got a variety of items. The kids got the chef's choice French toast (a Christmas themed mint French toast), my son got a burger (yes they have burgers for breakfast), the wife got the southwest benedict and I got the huevos rancheros. The kids loved their food and the benedict was unique but delicious. Great tasting chili and the corn fritatas were a great way to present it. The huevos rancheros were the one thing that I thought was forgettable. The tortillas were clearly store bought and thrown on there as an afterthought. Would have preferred Tortilla chips or something. But the sauce was flavorful and the beans were not bad. Compared to the other southwest/Mexican spots, it was one of the better ones I had so I won't dock points for it. Really a great find and after a few days of mediocre food at Pagosa Springs, it was great to have some good food here in Durango. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would! Rupert's is top notch! If I lived in town I would be here at least once a week. We started with a Spicy Bloody Mary and a Mike High Morning. Nice way to start the day. Our entrees were Huevas Rancheras, a Breakfast Burrito, and a Corned Beef Hash. They offer gluten free options also. The food is high quality, fresh, and delicious. One word... fantastic! On our last morning in Durango, we decided to get brunch. Mary, our server was great and helped us with our order. I got the chili bowl and a side of grits. The chili bowl was very good, and the grits received a passing grade from this southerner. My wife got the croque madam special, which was equally great, but the star, which is hard to believe, was the smoked red pepper ketchup that the make in house. Highly, highly recommend. read more

Best breakfast restaurant in Durango hands down! Very tasty and good food. Not your average diner. Seating is pretty close together, can be noisy, and you are likely to encounter a waitlist during prime times. Still worth it! Jalapeño bacon, truffle scrambled eggs, potato cakes, Benedicts, corned beef hash, and biscuits and gravy are some of the breakfast delights. Best scrambled eggs in town. Potato pancakes like my mom used to make. And angel biscuits...mmmm good!

Fantastic fried potato cakes, eggs and muffin today. Three problems: the eggs were swimming in oil; the oil is vegetable oil; and they're a little chintzy. An extra English muffin costs $2.19 with orange juice, in a small glass replete with ice, at $5. Suggestions: I'd cut the eggs from 4 to 3 in the scramble to save money and provide more in the way of cheaper English muffins or toast. I'd stop using cheap vegetable oil altogether. Vegetable oil is terrible for our health. I have eliminated unhealthful oils like: canola, vegetable, and seed oils from my diet as they're genuinely unhealthful and have lingering effects on macular degeneration and Alzheimer's (if consumed over a number of years, with shelf life of 4-10 years in the case of canola oil) on your body. If you could pay $1 extra and have the cooks use real butter or avocado oil, I'd be in Heaven. I'm ahead of my time here. I'll bet that within 3-5 years, Americans will fully discover the harmful effects of these unhealthful oils, full of chemicals. The cooks could use about 1/3 less grease here and be just fine. It's the best heavy breakfast I've found in Durango so far, though. I'll return and attempt to get butter used on the eggs and potatoes l, but know that restaurant cooks of this ilk are accustomed to "squirting" oil from the plastic oil bottles full of canola and vegetable oil. read more

Incredible! My husband and I both said this was the best breakfast we have had in a very long time! My hot vanilla chai was delicious and all of our food was cooked exactly as requested. I really like this place since it has opened. Great food and plenty of options. They usually have specials. The restaurant is clean and really nice staff. Great food and staff. There nothing here I haven't liked. I only once got a sandwich when they were really busy and it barely had meat. A quick note to the manager quickly changed that - I don't hold it against them. But you might want to check your to go order when they're really busy in the kitchen. Terribly disappointed in the food. We were in Durango for 7 days and really wanted to try this place because it gets great reviews. It has a private parking lot, which was a plus. We went on a Wednesday at 9:30am and got a seat right away, even though it was a two-top in the middle of everything. Our server was extremely nice and attentive. The place was cute and clean. I ordered a 4-egg scramble with bacon, spinach and feta, an English muffin and fruit. My husband order Animas breakfast with french fries, instead of the potato cake and a biscuit. When our breakfast came the first thing I noticed was there was absolutely no way mine was four eggs, more like two. The bacon was fatty and practically raw and the eggs were runny! It was so unappetizing I asked our waitress to take it away before I even lifted my fork. I actually thought I was going to be sick. I saw the server show it to the manager and she came back and apologized. Luckily she also took it off our bill. My husband said the bacon had a good flavor but the biscuit was super dry. It may have been a bad day, who knows, but we're not willing to risk it again. I also noticed that one of the cooks had long gray hair and was only wearing a baseball cap while standing over the food. Also, not appetizing! read more

We are visiting from Arizona originally from California. I am a huge fan of Lox it's almost an obsession. I ordered the Lox Benedict which comes with sliced avocado and of course poached egg and hollandaise and chive oil. I did not take a photo but the presentation was beautiful. This was hands down THEE best Lox I have ever had and the chive oil was absolutely phenomenal all the flavors worked beautifully together. The avocado slices however were really hard I had to fight to pierce with my fork but they had the perfect avocado flavor so honestly- no big deal. The staff were so great the food came out so quickly, everyone seemed to work together so well and were so personable. The mimosas were great too!
