Had a very good lunch here. We arrived around 1 PM and we're seated pretty quickly. The hostess was warm and friendly, our server was efficient. We ordered the French onion soup, which was good but the quiche we ordered was fantastic! Probably one of the best quiches we've ever tasted. We would definitely come back to have that again and to try a pastry. read more

May 2026 My wife and I were visiting Durango for a few days. She took the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to Silverton, but unfortunately I wasn't able to go because of a medical condition that prevents me from traveling to high altitudes, and the train climbs to around 10,000 feet. After she left on her adventure, I decided to find some breakfast. While I was walking around town, my aunt called. She and my uncle used to vacation in Ouray every year, so she knows the area well. She recommended Jean-Pierre Bakery, so that's where I headed. I was seated right away and ordered a coffee while I looked over the menu. My waitress was very friendly, and we chatted for a while. She even recommended a few places around town that I should check out. I finally decided on the Croque Monsieur (brioche, béchamel, ham, and Swiss cheese) served with a salad. When my meal arrived, it looked fantastic. The sandwich was delicious, rich, and full of flavor. It was my first time trying a Croque Monsieur, and I really enjoyed it. The salad was fresh and crisp, and the vinaigrette paired perfectly with it. After finishing my meal, I couldn't resist ordering a pistachio cream-filled éclair that had caught my eye when I first walked in. It looked beautiful, but unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The pastry was very dry, and the bottom was quite hard. It definitely didn't taste freshly made. The pistachio cream had a nice flavor, but there wasn't very much of it. I mentioned my concerns to my server, and she kindly brought me a chocolate éclair to try instead. It also looked wonderful, but it had the same problem. The pastry tasted old, almost like it had been sitting for a couple of days. I would absolutely return for another Croque Monsieur or to try something else from the breakfast or lunch menu because that part of the meal was excellent. As for the pastries, they certainly look beautiful, but based on my experience, I would probably pass on them next time. This would have been a solid 4 star if those eclair had of been good. read more

This bakery was so cute and nostalgic of the bakeries in small French towns. I thought the pastries were yummy though not quite as delicious as authentic French pastries, I appreciated they used real butter and real pistachio cream! This was a nice Sweet treat to get before continuing on our drive. read more

Stopped by around 3:30pm Sunday for dessert and coffee. Restaurant closes at 5, but sign still out saying "please wait to be seated.". Waited while the pastry chef was serving other customers. Two others, the barista and hostess, were oblivious to us, chatting with each other. The pastry chef told us the kitchen was closed and we said we only wanted coffee and dessert. He said we could choose items from the case. The barista finally came over and took our order, assumed it was to go. Enjoyed our dessert and coffee in paper cups and a plastic container while seeing other customers getting to use actual coffee mugs and china. Sorry your staff was too busy to care, except for the pastry chef, kudos and thanks to him. read more

Stopped in for a box of desserts, it is a tad pricey but the quality of it is above and beyond; completely worth the price! The woman who helped us was very friendly and patient, she told us a little bit of the story of Jean-Pierre's and a bit about herself, she was amazing and a friendly face to have during a rough day. The ambiance is a little more rough although I loved the interior design and feeling, no complaints. read more

Ok - I'm updating because as you can read from my first review- I really want to love this place. Last two times have been MUCH improved on consistency of baked goods. The croissants have been more consistent and buttery/moist and their meringues are terrific. Still expensive - but now I can say it's worth the prices. read more

Exceptionally tasty breakfast with high quality ingredients. The tastes will take you to Paris and then back again. Croissants were flaky, tender, buttery goodness in every bite. Fresh cut, crispy bacon was divine. Cozy interior, comfortable seating, and French antiques adorn the inside, yet this place is distinctly Colorado. Service was spot on good. Jean-Pierre is pricey. You pay for what you get and what you get is really good, but seems high for the area. Not complaining, just saying. read more

We have eaten here about 5-6 times in the past and mostly had positive experiences, but this time it was a 0 star experience. We were one of the first tables seated on a Sunday morning at about 9:00am. We ordered right away and we were served our coffee. 45 minutes laster, the restaurant was packed and everyone around us had their food except for us. Our server never once checked on us during that time, and never refilled our coffee. We tried to get his attention several times, but with no luck. We finally got his attention and he had not even put our order in! We left after almost 50 minutes with only 1 cup of coffee and NO food! But even worse, no apology from the Server or anyone else at the restaurant. read more

what is there to say about this place? i personally have never eaten anything here EXCEPT their bakery goods which were superb, best in town, hands down. Every morning they seem to have a wide selection of freshly baked pastries, good coffee, big smiles and a beautiful building. I have seen their breakfasts being delivered to tables and can say they look delicious but a big breakfast sends me straight back to bed... When i am in town.. i stop here every single time, always, without fail. read more

This place could have been a great place to eat but, they are very understaffed! Staff is trying to deal with roof leaking into the dinning room. Seems that this is a family owned place and momma is still micro managing the place. When, cocktails are poured from the larger bottles, no measuring, and a vodka and seven up is poured into a large beverage glass instead of a rocks glass then twice as much liquor is poured for the price of one drink. I didn't even see a rocks glass in the bar area. Very disorganized bar and systems for servers. Glad I don't have to work here. read more

A croissant is a crescent shaped, buttery, layered, flaky pastry made from yeast-leavened laminated dough. What is served as a croissant at this establishment is a slightly sweet bread formed into a croissant shape. A croissant in name only. read more

Great food. Fast service. Very interesting interior. Highly recommend. Not our first time and not our last.

We had breakfast here on a Sunday morning and it was wonderful! The staff were very attentive and the food was simply amazing. We loved the eclectic atmosphere and the old hardwood floors. We also bought a fresh pie to take home and have been enjoying it. While everything was good, it was rather pricey. We will be back! read more

Took my husband there for his birthday brunch . We all had the $20 mimos. A little pricey yes but it's a big mimosa made with fresh squeezed orange juice. The have great brunch items and the adjacent bakery is awesome. Our server was great and offered a free dessert for my husband's bday. The bar/restaurant/bakery is inside what I believe to be a historic building giving it a laid back ambiance. read more

Sister got the quiche bacon and cheese. I tried it wow. Super good. I did the traditional French breakfast. Eggs a bit underdone but overall not bad. Loves the potatoes. Natural cut French fries. Absolutely loved this place! The food, ambiance, and service were outstanding! We split the omelette and the almond royale croissant, absolutely delicious! Loved the ambiance of this place, very warm and inviting. The server was also very nice and attentive. We will definitely be back if we are in the area again! read more

Terrible breakfast: cold French toast made with thin-sliced store bought white bread that was dried out stale . At a "french bakery" you would think they could serve fresh in-house baked bread for their French toast...!Fake syrup, not real maple syrup. Gloppy. And $21.00! The one good thing was the coffee. And our server was nice. read more

Thank you Jean-Pierre Bakery for reversing my impression of Durango, Colorado! I had a nightmare of a dining experience at Primus Restaurant the previous night, and am so thankful for the lovely experience at your bakery restaurant! Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by your cheerful staff, the sweet aroma of your freshly baked pastries, and the beautiful music by your pianist! What a way to start off the day! WOW! I was thoroughly impressed! The fresh pastries were amazing! My guy and I ordered the Parisien Pecan Roll and Custard Raisin to go with our coffee. Oh how I wish I had ordered more to take with us for the road! I love all of the decor and the warm ambiance! Thank you for creating such an inviting atmosphere! When I visit Durango again, I will most definitely visit your bakery restaurant and dine in! I highly recommend everyone who reads this review to carve time out of their morning or afternoon to visit this place! read more

Jean-Pierre Bakery - Bonjour chef! - Bakeries Near Me - Durango, Colorado

My husband was very excited to try this place as he grew up in Europe and loves French pastries. After shelling out $40 just for a plain croissant, blueberry filled croissant, chocolate filled croissant, mocha, and a cappuccino to go we were extremely disappointed. These are not legitimate French pastries, they are yummy but are more like American bready croissants, not flaky layered French croissants. Also the mocha was so bad I literally threw it away, I drink mochas everywhere and have never needed to do this before. read more

I honestly can't make a fair judgement about the quality of the food, but I can tell you that I have rarely walked out of a restaurant due to rude service, but today was an exception. My husband and I stopped in today 20-Septembre-2024 shortly after noon. The sign clearly read, wait to be seated, and so we did. A couple of minutes went by and a sloppily dressed male gruffly asked, how many, and I signaled 2. (My husband and I are celebrating our 50th Anniversary, and since I'm French, we thought this might be nice...) He grabbed some menus and tossed them onto a table as he walked by, and my husband, who is not used to rude people, continued following the "waiter?" I called him back and he headed to the men's room while I waited to order drinks. Before my husband returned the "waiter" came back with two glasses of water and roughly dropped them onto the table, asking for our drink order, sort of... I expressed that water was fine for me but my husband might like sparkling or clu... and he left before I could get the words out. He comes back with a tiny bottle of Perrier, saying that is all they have... and again he left... Points to note: It's lunchtime... The restaurant was not full... I was as always, extremely polite... but he was really pushing my limits. My husband came back and I said, "Babe, the waiter is beyond short and far past rude... I'm not willing to let you drop $100 for lunch to be treated as if we're second rate citizens." We got up and left. I walked down the street and asked for recommendations for lunch. I also wasn't surprised to hear that "Jean-Pierre's," was not only NOT recommended, but we were advised to steer clear. Three shops. Same comments. At 2:30 I returned and asked to speak with the manager. The Asian woman brusquely told me the manager was preparing to go home for the day and refused to inform them that I wanted to speak with them. We left again. I'm not sure how you survive in the high stakes of the restaurant business, with such disregard for your customers. We won't try again. But we will continue to tell others about our experience. The little Mexican Restaurant we finally settled on, was extremely welcoming. Thank goodness for options! read more

Jean-Pierre's made me like tomatoes. I have never liked tomatoes. I ordered the croissant breakfast sandwich but asked them to hold the tomatoes. The chef brought us a complimentary shrimp tomato salad that he was considering putting on the menu, and the tomatoes were the most incredible thing I've ever had. They were so fresh, juicy, and delicious! The dressing had just the right amount of salt to complement the acid in the tomato. So, so far this review has only been about the free item we were given, but the rest of it was SO GOOD. I actually regretted NOT getting tomatoes on my breakfast sandwich and had to ask for them, so again, tomatoes = good. I can only assume this speaks to where they are getting their produce, and that all of their produce is as good. I did question whether a mimosa could ever be worth $15 and decided to risk it. As much as a mimosa can be worth $15, it was worth $15. Fresh squeezed orange juice, plenty of sparking deliciousness. Service was great. Seated immediately on a Saturday morning during Snowdown. Server was just personal enough, just attentive enough, not overly so. We really appreciated the chef coming to our table and checking in on us. I cannot wait to go back and order a breakfast croissant THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE, tomatoes and all. read more

Stopped in while visiting Durango Colorado. We tired a few different pasties but nothing spectacular. Maybe it was a bad baking week not sure. The macarons were over baked, and the other parties we tried a little on the dry trying to remember the others we got. Service was great though, friendly and quick we got our pasties to go so didn't dine in so can't speak for dine in service. Ambiance was nice and they have a piano you can play. Very cute place like the atmosphere the coffee is so hot that it's burnt and I asked for sweet cream cheese croissant heated up and it's like it's cold in the center. Maybe this was yesterday pastries since I guess it was frozen before they tried to heat it up. Their menu is pretty poor this could be such a good brunch place but the menu is sub par. I guess they do more bar business at night than food. PS the menu price for French toast $21.00 plus tax and tip not worth it. Nothing worst than the waitress drops the check with the food and does not come back to the table. Tips based on service and is not mandatory!!!!! read more

Adam was our server. We enjoyed our food service but the best was the atmosphere. I had fruit crepes and my wife had a stuffed croissant.

Food was delicious and unique. Location is excellent and the staff was great. A little expensive for by.

Beautiful little bakery in this gorgeous quaint town. I was intrigued by the piano music I heard while walking down the street so I popped my head in and was enamored with the entire atmosphere. A live pianist, beautiful and delicious pastries, and excellent customer service. I had already eaten breakfast so I decided to just get a couple of pastries and a few macaroons. All were delicious and at a good price. I will definitely be returning! read more
