Came here for the prime rib and was somewhat disappointed. Had a nice 20oz. and friend had 16oz.cut the medium rare was fine but there was no crust and it had not been seasoned well prior to cooking. The Au Jus was decent as was the horse radish sauce. The mashed potatoes were decent, string beans above average and my small Caesar salad was good as well.Nice glass of Josh Cabernet wine worked well with everything. My other 2 guests had both the Open faced Hot Turkey Sandwich, which looked so good and was reported excellent and the House made Lamb Gyro that was also welcomed as a "great meal". We shared a salad, however, the salad was so big by the time we were done, we couldn't finish our steaks. We both ordered the fillets and the size portion was huge. We could've shared those as well. The Roost was a great find! Although we only had a salad their menu is awesome! The decor is low key and fun featuring music artist throughout the years. Parking is a premium and street parking is paid until 6pm. The bar menu is a little misleading. The two drinks I tried to order they were missing components. I got the painted desert without the anchor chili rim, but I think it needed the rim. The salmon spread with pitas was hit, creamy and delicious. The prime rib with mashed potatoes and green beans was so flavorful. The creamy horseradish was a nice savory component. For dessert we shared Nanna's brownie. For whatever reason, our group didn't think we'd need to make reservations for 11 on a Saturday night between Polar Express trains. The Roost was the only place that could accommodate us, so we gave it a try. The orange teriyaki Alaskan salmon was the highlight of the evening! Light and flavorful, it looked and tasted like a dish that would be served at higher end restaurants. Our group also ordered prime rib, filet mignon, burgers, sandwiches, and lots of kids' macaroni and cheese. The kids devoured their macaroni, and by the looks of it--loaded with creamy white cheese sauce--anyone could see why. We didn't love the cookie dough brownie sundae, the texture of the brownie/cookie was gooey and thick, but not in a good way. It was like eating a ball of fried bread with a hint of crab. They were dry and smelled like cat food. For the main course, my fiancé got the prime rib French dip which was lacking seasoning but was at least tender with a good amount of yummy ajus dip. I got the mahi mahi which was okay. It was dry and fishy but that I think might just be the flavor of the fish. The vegetable rice it was on was a really good though. The Roost is a cute little corner restaurant with great service and style but unfortunately lackluster food, especially for the price. Walking in, the place feels welcoming. There's bar seating and pretty well-maintained tables for various group sizes Service is also great - it's friendly and accomodating without being too suffocating, with an air of "we know what we're doing, and we want you to have a good time." I got the prime rib, as it's advertised as the best in the four corners. Unfortunately, it felt more like they had taken an actually competently cooked prime rib, let it sit at room temperature for 45 minutes, microwaved it, and then pat it down with all-too-strong seasoning on the outside while letting the inner parts of the meat starve for any flavor pathetically. At a 40 dollar price point, it's probably the most disappointing meal I've had in Durango, a butchering of a beautiful cut of meat served with flavorless mashed potatoes - and creamy horseradish, somehow the most flavorful thing on my plate. At the end, against my better judgement, I got the White Chocolate and Creme Brulee Crepes, which were a *tiny* bit burnt but surprisingly decent. The fillings were light and creamy despite being filled with white chocolate, and I can recommend them wholeheartedly. All in all, you could get the cheaper items on the menu and you'll have an alright time, but there are better places in durango for a much cheaper price point. 2/10 food barely holding on by 7/10 desserts and 9/10 service. read more
