Momo Ghar and Ska True Blond on the patio.

This is a great place! A few months ago, I saw "dumplings" pop up in north Durango, but then I couldn't find them again. I was eating at Sage across the street (also great), and I noticed the sign in front of the union Social House that said "Himalayan Dumplings," so I stopped in to try them. The place was hopping, lots of people inside at the bar, and outside on the patio, and there were three food trucks, on of which is "Sherpa Momo Ghar." I had the chicken Momo in soup (the eponymous Momo Ghar), and while I was waiting for my order, I went inside and ordered a local beer, then went back outside to eat. The dumplings were delicious, like a variation of potstickers, and the soup was nice and sour and flavorful. Both went well with the beer, a Ska True Blond. I plan on visiting many times this summer!

This place has been open for 1 year. Survived Covid. I found the service to be fast, friendly and attentive. The ladies tending bar were on it. I even asked if they could make me a bloody mary! (See previous review!) I ordered food from the Backcountry Gourmet in the bar. Had a bacon cheeseburger slider and a crab cake slider. Both were delicious and service was friendly fast and efficient. I give this establishment and employees a hearty thumbs up.

Bacon cheeseburger slider with onion ring from Back Country Gourmet, inside the restaurant. Delicious!

However, we had gone on its closing day and had some great tacos, salad, and ramen. Their birria is rich and meaty with a touch of cinnamon and was awesome as a ramen and taco. If you are a lover of well done birria, this is your place. Craving authentic Mexican food? Yep, this is your place. We started with their chips and salsa. I think you can tell a lot by the salsa at a place. Lemme just say, I was so very happy! Their salsa wasn't too chunky, not too thin and they are not afraid to season and add some heat - but hey, don't worry it wasn't too hot if you've got a dad like mine who isn't a fan of "too much spice." Such a good omen. I couldn't decide which marg to try so ordered a flight. Best decision ever. Even as I write this, I'm still hard pressed to choose a favorite. They were all so good. Add street tacos, quesadillas for my mom, elote cob, and switch fries for my dad and we were all happy campers. The flavors were obscenely good. Staff were amazing and stopped by to make sure we were always taken care of: fast and friendly. Best combo ever. The place is also super cute! Loved the bar and simplicity of the concept. Switchback has a quiet elegance while be so very casual. Perfect in my book.

Being in the area I was…read morebeyond happy to see it was still open so our final breakfast for this brief trip had to be here. The restaurant is tiny, a narrow shotgun type unit in a building along main street. We managed to get one of their five tables and were promptly served drinks and time to look over the menu before ordering the Country Benedict. My coffee was kept filled as we waited for our order. As soon as the plate hit the table, I knew that even though the owner had changed, the spirit of the place remained. The plate of food was massive; more than the two of us could eat. The plate included two halves of an excellent biscuit, half of a large sausage patty on each, an over easy egg; all smothered in country sausage gravy. The other half of the plate had a mound of beautiful browned hash browns. Enough for four people or at least two very hungry people. It was glorious and nostalgic. The flavor was everything I wanted it to be. If you are in or near Durango, please consider giving this true old diner a try. Thanks to Greg, the new owner, for continuing Gary's recipes and hospitality.

We stopped in for breakfast when we didn't realize there was an art festival going on in the city of Durango, so we expected it to feel crowded, busy and rushed. They found a table for us right away (part of that was lucky timing on our part), but provided great service.... Answering all of our questions and asking where we are from and overall friendly service. We all ordered the breakfast burritos and it was better than what we expected. I highly recommend the green chili sauce they smother the burrito in.... It's super tasty! And in the end, the price was lower than we expected.... So, great environment, great food. 5 stars! I would be happy to come back to this one!

To her credit, our kind waitress had the kitchen quickly make me a new one, but honestly it was still borderline inedible. This time, due to the salt. Not only was the meat heavily salted, but the breading was overly salted as well. I couldn't even taste the meat or the breading (or even the potatoes) because it wasn't a giant plate of salt. I ate all the broccolini, a few bites of potatoes, and a few bites of steak. I hate that all restaurants, because of patrons and their salt-conditioned palates, serve the most sodium-laden monstrosities possible. I didn't feel good eating it, I didn't want to eat more than a few bites, and I left the restaurant full of regret for the bites I did take. On the plus side, the beer is exceptionally tasty, and my kids both enjoyed their meals. We are leaving tomorrow and so we won't be back, but I wouldn't be back otherwise as well.
