The one star is generous -- only because the food was halfway decent. Bartenders taking shots behind the bar in front of customers, employees making out in service stations, cursing, complaining constantly to customers directly (including to me directly when I first say down). Absolutely some of the worst front of house I've ever seen. I asked the check mid-way and left because of how uncomfortable the atmosphere was. Note: this was the sushi restaurant & a general spot recommended to me by many online lists and locals. It's sad to see a horrific front of house ruin an otherwise lovely establishment. Great sushi spot in Durango! Get a reservation because it gets busy. Happy hour has some smokin deals on drinks and sushi. Dinner menu has great variety including sushi, ramen, and more. The sushi is really solid - best I've had in Durango. The orange chicken wings are also really great. Highly recommend the blue fin tuna if they have it in stock! I love this place! But why do I have to watch tennis? 2 or maybe 3 large screens. The bartender tried to help but the app just had about 6 other sport options. I took my family here. Some don't like raw fish but there were plenty of options. They raved about the cooked whitefish and the beef and rice bowl. The edamame with garlic was a hit. My mother does not drink gin but she loved the gin daisy. We had some appetizers that were on the specials but even the non sushi peeps had a bit of raw fish on the appetizer which was a fried rice cake with some salmon on top. Lived in Durango 30 years so have been to a lot of restaurants here. I generally don't leave reviews but this was necessary. We decided to try Pop Sushi for a birthday dinner with relatives in town. It was very disappointing. -did not see our server for 20 minutes after sitting down and drinks took another 15 minutes -appetizer roll was highlight -after ordering dinner and waiting about 30 minutes with no sight of our server he server arrived and asked if we needed anything else. We said, no, a bit confused. Then he dropped the bill on our table and said thanks for coming in. After explaining that we were yet to get our actual meals he said, oh, they are coming right up! He scrambled back to the kitchen. -20 minutes later he returned and said it's coming out. -10 minutes later 2 of 6 meals arrived. -10 minutes later one more -10 minutes later the other 3 -(guessing he actually didn't put order in?) -The food? Ramen bowl was ok. The meat was very subpar. Pork belly all fat and almost inedible. Maybe coked in a rush? Alternatively the pork loin was a disc of jerky like meat that could not really be chewed, mostly just torn. -Ribs, so overwhelming salty and overcooked we struggled to eat them. -Server offered a special rice bowl for the night which we got 2 of. The rice was extremely dry and my dad actually poured some beer onto it to make it palatable. My son could not eat it. -Never really an apology about the bill issue or an offer to make it right. I won't mention competing Asian restaurant in town but I'd recommend all of them above Pop Sushi. We will not risk going back. read more

No big deal, the prices were reasonable which is why I didn't catch my attention. But the food was very tasty and I'm glad that the mistake happened. The place was absolutely packed, as with most of Durango that weekend. All the food was well-cooked and delicious, the only thing I would have improved upon was cooking the noodles a little bit longer. Steamed buns with pork belly was my favorite appetizer. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Tonight it was pretty sad. It took over 30 minutes to bring us our appetizer- 4 pieces of tuna nigiri. The tuna was awful. Color was off and tasted fishy. We probably should have left at that point. We ordered 3 rolls. 2 were edible, but very mushy. The Pop Spider roll was cold and disgusting. We decided to give Pop Sushi a try, and we were not disappointed. We had Calamari, shrimp tempura rolls, unagi rolls, California rolls and seaweed salad. All of the rolls were fantastic and the calamari was one of the best we've ever had. Perfect tenderness! And seaweed salad is usually pretty standard in sushi restaurants, but they definitely kicked it up a notch with their presentation and addition of delicious garnishes. Very good selection of sushi, friendly and fast service. My wife and I went to Pop on a Saturday night pretty early, around 6:30 or so. They said there was an hour wait but the hostess got us a seat at the bar in less than 30 minutes. We tried a variety of items. Started with seaweed salad and miso soup. The salad was good though it came with other items (shredded cucumber and some other veggies) and the quantity of seaweed was on the small side. Then we get hand rolls - spicy salmon for my wife, spicy tuna for me. They were good, could have been a little less rice for me but I enjoyed it. Then we got a couple of rolls - fried asparagus and another whose name escapes me but had hamachi. Both were very good. We finished with individual nigiri - salmon, unagi and chef's choice, which was sea bass. All were very good. The service was great throughout. Water glasses were always filled. Food came out at a good pace. Our bill was $100, which included drinks, which was pretty much what we always end up spending at a sushi restaurant. We really enjoyed the meal and definitely will return. read more

When we had the check presented and had been waiting for a while to pay he stood at the bar staring around hanging out not sure what to do with himself. The rice noodles were so good. It was like Pho, only better and tastier. This is a reason to head to Pop Sushi which is about a 10 minute drive from Main Avenue in a Strip type mall. The restaurant was nicely decorated, but with the low temps and the front door opening constantly, it was cool inside. A warm sweater in winter is a must!
