This hotel has an advantage given its location. You can easily stroll downtown which is just steps away. For this reason alone I would choose this hotel again. The hotel also has a new feel to it and includes underground parking. The room was comfortable and clean and had a nice view of the creek if you get a room facing the right size. Been staying here about 4X. In the last 4 months, IHG has changed how you can connect fire stick devices to the WiFi which the front desk provides an 800 number for support. I asked the girl when I checked in and she denied they have this. I told her the last time I stayed, they did. She was extremely rude. I called the front desk after seeing it wouldn't connect and the girl again acted like I was stupid. She was rude and wouldn't let me speak. I asked for the manager which I will Complain in the morning. Phone didn't work so had to call from cellphone. Place has gone to toilet. read more

During our ski weekend we stayed in the very posh to the Durango Holiday Inn Express. The Express is one of the few hotels in the central downtown part (otherwise you need to cross a river). Location is great and the hotel has a "newer" feel and a parking garage. There is a breakfast which offers a selection and what you would expect from a "free breakfast. But for a chain hotel downtown this is a very good option. There is even an exercise room. read more

After a 100 mile thru-hike in the Weminuche Wilderness ending in Durango, we were met with four hundred dollar per night rates. Of course, the Friday before Labor Day didn't help, and the Four Corners Bike Rally being in town REALLY didn't help. For cuatro cientos, we had a group of people sit in "our" patio chairs outside our room which a van also parked in front of (see picture), and heard roaring motorcycles going up and down 550 until 11:30pm at least. We paid for breakfast (it's not free, apparently) but left promptly the next morning to get out of the chaos. The benefits: the Express is nicely done, comfortable, and clean. If it hadn't been for a series of unfortunate experiences, I may have a different opinion. read more

Check-in: Fairly painless, we had made a reservation long time ago online so we picked up keys upon reaching. There is some parking in front but most of it is in the underground lot. They charge $5 for parking which is a bummer. Also some guests parked in 2 spots and took away much needed spaces on the stormy snowy days, which the front desk said they'd look into. The person working at night said they didn't have extra blankets but graciously offered some extra sheets and pillows to keep us warm. We also received extra blankets the next day so I was happy. Complimentary continental Breakfast from 6.30am to 8-9. They have the usual oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, bread, tea coffee station but also hot fresh items like daily egg dishes (we had a veggie omlette on the first day and cheese the next day), gravy, biscuits, sausage,fruits. Very grateful for the breakfast because it gave us a lot of energy to explore in the frigid weather and also festive times when things were closed. It's located well, 3 minutes from downtown and next to a convenience mart. The breakfast area faces a tiny pond/lake which was snow covered on the days we visited. read more

Holiday Inns are my go-to most of the time when I travel. This one has all the makings of your typical franchise experience. They were severely understaffed though. The staff there were nice but not enough to make up for it. We opted in to the $10 breakfast buffet they offered and the food seemed to always be out or cold. We received room service but they only made the beds and didn't change out towels. Not my best experience but I don't necessarily blame them. read more

unfortunately, this "NEW" hotel only gets 2 stars. We should have checked in at 2pm (elite member here :) We arrived around 1700 and our room was not ready. Apparently, there was a mix up with scheduling and housekeeping. The guests that have checked in, their rooms were not ready and my reservation was one of them. Poor girl, she was telling guests that if they had planned on visiting some place to go because their room wasn't quite ready. That's embarassing to tell a guest especially knowing this is a new hotel. Guess new doesn't mean they have this sh!t together. As my fiancé and I waited in the lobby for our room (up to or more than 60 minutes), I decided to walk the floors and the hallways to see if I can find a cart since there weren't any available down in the lobby. No luck. Walking the floors, it looked as if the hallway carpets weren't even vacuumed. For this to be new, you would think it would be clean but wasnt. . If you are reading this and you are one of those guests that do not return the carts where you found them, it helps the hotel when you return it down where you found it. Thank you very much. Anyways, I Went downstairs to see if there were any left down there. Nada. Didnt have to wait in line behind 6 people to get my keycards (thank you whoever was up at the front-never got her name. She didn't introduce herself-not her fault she had her plate full with managements housekeeping scheduling issue) Ended up just bringing our belongings up without a cart. I have severe low back pain and it was uncomfortable bringing my items up. It's not the reps fault, but management. Hopefully next time we decide to stay here we do not encounter this type of customer service and housekeeping scheduling issue. The view was beautiful though. Our family had a wonderful experience at the Holiday Inn Express. Julia made our check- in process so easy and effortless, she welcomed us warmly and suggested local spots around town. This is a gorgeous hotel with a beautiful view and it only gets more breathtaking when you walk around. Continental breakfast buffet was A+. The omelettes, bacon, cinnamon rolls and juice were delicious! If you're planning a trip to Durango, this hotel is the place to stay! read more

Ultimately, we really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were comfortable and have the usual well-organized Holiday Inn Express layout. We also enjoyed the somewhat obstructed view of the river from our room. The lobby area is spacious and modern with ample seating for people eating the free breakfast or just lounging or working the rest of the day. And the hotel has a great rear deck with a view of the river for anyone who doesn't have a river-view room like we did. The staff is friendly and helpful, and we appreciated that greatly because our room had a number of issues upon arrival. For the problems we encountered, the staff graciously applied a discount to our bill. The largest problems were a dirty floor that was apparently very difficult to clean around the doorway and the lack of notice ahead of time that July through September is the season when dragonflies lay their eggs on the riverbanks. That means that you'd better not open your patio door in a river-view room at night when the tiny baby dragonflies are literally swarming everywhere they can find a light source (especially this year, when there are apparently more of them than usual). Because someone must have opened the patio door in our room at some point before we arrived, a whole bunch of them were in our room. The good news is that they are harmless, almost entirely stay on the ceiling, and don't bother you. That said, I killed absolutely as many of them as I could until they were practically gone, and we never had another problem, as the building is new and well sealed. The non-river-view rooms won't have this problem. Because of the willingness of the staff to address our concerns, we would gladly stay at this property again, though we do hope they are able to hire more staff next time, since you could tell that they were a bit shorthanded (as many businesses are right now). The proximity to the historic downtown area was a great benefit, and we enjoyed being directly on the Animas River Trail, which we walked twice. We also appreciated the ability to feel safe about our car because of the parking garage, which has a convenient elevator that goes to the lobby or directly to the floor of your room. It was literally steps to our room or car anytime we went in and out. So don't let our issues stop you from trying this hotel. You won't likely encounter the issues we did, and the staff has proven their willingness to address any concerns as best as they can. read more

I hadn't stay in a Holiday Inn since I was in high school and boy have some of their properties had a serious upgrade.This place is modern, beautiful (never thought I'd say that about a select service hotel) and the beds are as comfortable as at the luxe IHG properties, down to the quality of the sheets. Nice little river running behind it. My room faced the street but it wasn't noisy at all. Good staff, and whoever is managing this property is doing a fine job. I'm in the travel business and I'm used to being in all kinds of properties from 3 star up. This one is right up there with the best of the best. The photos on their website are true and all you need to know to book this place in the sweet little town of Durango. My first visit here and I'll be back. Hope this hotel doesn't get too popular. I usually prefer older hotels like the historic ones on main street, but I'm really glad I picked this one. read more

This was a great location on the river. Beware you do have to pay for parking. Also, if you have a large truck (like we do), you will have to try and snag a parking space up front because your truck will not fit into the parking garage. There is no housekeeping people working at all. We were there for 3 days and the hallways were disgusting. I understand not cleaning the rooms because of COVID, but the common places were not cleaned at all. Elevator floors were gross and the tables In the breakfast area were dirty. read more

We had reserved a room for three nights overlooking the river. Since it was our anniversary, Michael at the front desk told us he'd upgraded us to a room with a balcony and told us to 'enjoy the view'. When we got to our room, our 'view' was of the parking lot and the Walgreens across the highway. I tried to call the desk but the room phone did not work. So I went back to the front desk and Michael told me, "I've already upgraded you and there are no rooms available overlooking the river." The room itself was quite dirty. There was loose hair all over the vinyl covered desk chair. I put a fabric bag on the desk and when I picked it back up it was covered in dust. There were two overhead light fixtures and they were full of dead bugs. This was just what I e could see so we did our best to clean what we had to touch. When I went to the desk to check out there were two women and one girl behind the desk. The two women were watching the girl do something on the computer. I told them I was checking out and one asked me if I needed a receipt. I said I did and she told me I'd have to wait for Cheryl. When Cheryl came back to the desk she asked if she could email my receipt. I told her I wanted a printed copy. She had to have the girl get off the computer so she could print it for me. She handed me a sheet of paper and I walked into the elevator to go to the basement parking garage and noticed that the receipt was just page 2 of 2 and had no details. I went back for page 1 of 2 and Cheryl sighed heavily and then dug through the trash to get it so I have a receipt that was wadded up and in a trash can. AT BEST the staff was indifferent, uncaring, and unprofessional. We definitely do not recommend the Holiday Inn Express Durango at 1111 Camino Del Rio. read more

I think the earlier reviews are a result of opening during covid and a national labor shortage. We had a great stay- I wish I could stay longer. The rooms were incredibly nice and clean. The staff was amazingly helpful during a really rough patch on our trip. The breakfast was the best I ever had in a hotel. I would come back here every year! read more

Poor management. Had to wait 3 days to get outlet repaired in the bathroom. Very noisy rooftop fan. When i inquired about having a repairman looking into why the unit was so loud, They couldn't move us because they were full and I was told there was a dispute over payment with vendor so they couldn't call them. Don't count on breakfast. Each day the options was a cheese omelet, cut up some kind of sausage, biscuits and gravy, cereal, old bananas, packaged pastries (did not look good, but, to be fair we never tried them) On the first day they had gravy and no biscuits. The second day I thought I would go for the simple. I wanted cereal, but, hard to have cereal with only chocolate milk. I'm not 12 years old. The topper was they served it all on the most flimsy cheap paper plates they could find. After that we just decided to eat breakfast out for the balance of our trip. We are Gold Members with Hilton Hotels. We thought we would try this property as it was a new hotel. Room was nice other than the fan and outlet. For the price I would not stay at this property again. One final note. I was pretty ticked off at a add on fee they sprung on us when we checked in. They told us there was a $5.00 parking fee before we arrived. I was fine with that, I knew it was coming. But, they added a $5.00 energy fee for the more expensive lighting they installed. I can afford the $5.00. I should of been told of the fee when booking the room. Here is a idea charge me a extra $10.00 per night for my stay and let me feel like i get free parking spot. Every other hotel builds their electric and water fees into their room rate. I hope they choke on my $5.00 extra light fee. Overall it was not worth the money they charged. read more
