Owners are very rude, unprofessional and threaten locals with false accusations to intimidate them into being silent about the swatting issues there. The last one was really graphic. Scanner traffic reported A DV shooting and instead of letting the community know it was swatting they got mad when we started asking questions and then accused us of Swatting because we wouldn't take down our post on social media. Something very fishy here.

Mesa Verde is about 30 minutes to the west, however when you get there, it's another hour or so to most of the points of interest. If you want to enjoy the country side, nature all around with panoramic views of the mountains while also having creature comforts, solid bedding, climate control and hot water this is the way to go. Speaking of water the shower pressure in our room (Mountain View suite) was spectacular.

I didn't know it was a third-party vendor. not faulting them, but when I tried to check in, I told him reservation was canceled by a reservation but I still pay for another room the day I checked in I tried directed by the situation with the hotel they kept telling me to contact the third-party which I already had the front desk manager was very rude on the phone. He was very insistent and he did not listen to me. I got very angry. And eventually disconnected the phone. I'm still trying to get a refund from the hotel. I left three messages for the manager, Jenny. And she has not ever returned my call.

The owners, Garth S. and his wife, are super nice and now have a newborn daughter. They allow pets and we brought our "fake dog", the Pomeranian, both times. The second visit, January 2020, we came to Durango for my wife's birthday. They kindly allowed us to check in early since we had to be in Purgatory at 3 PM for an Alpenglow snowshoe tour. The heater worked great and the room was clean. On Sunday, I explained to Garth that we were going to buy some grass fed beef at the nearby James Ranch Market. I asked him if we could store this beef in the freezer of room 14 since it would thaw by the time we left on Monday. He said we could store it in his personal freezer, behind the check in desk. On Monday morning, Garth knocked on my door and told me he and his wife were leaving into town. He gave me the frozen beef and I thanked him for his hospitality. This family run lodge treats you like a valued customer and we will be staying here again. Thank you Garth S. and family.

Well, to start this review I will have to tell you my booking experience with Trip Advisor…read more Beware of outdated information and pictures. The photos they have are from 2014-2015, and there is a link that goes to the lodge that shows more updated information and pictures. Booking with the lodge directly was easy and efficient. They do have a different check in that I had not done before. It was pretty easy and simple. Make sure and read everything before you go. My room was ok but, there are a few issues I noticed and had. 1st- my keyless door battery went out and had to text and call someone to come to put batteries in it. I did not appreciate the person who text me after I relayed the problem and acted as if I didn't know what I was doing. I have a keyless entry installed at my own home and when the batteries go out it will not work. No beep, nothing. They told me my keyless code, as if that was the issue. It was not. The person that came out to assist tried my code and another code, then had to call someone to unlock with a key....because the batteries were dead. Not once did anyone try to accommodate me for the issue. 2-one of the outlets didn't work. 3-door does not have good seal, bugs were coming in. 4- loud noise from room to the right, upstairs and from the road. I was in room #16. Air conditioner was very loud & remote had no batteries. To reach it to adjust temperature I had to use a chair. 5-floors were not swept. 6- not a good area to take your dog out to do their business. I would say that it was a ok walk to downtown Durango. The animas river walk was nice and you're going get your steps done. If you go right, then take a right at the first street that area is nice to walk your dog. There is also the off leash park not too far from there that was nice. I took a chance with this place, and I was disappointed and now I know. It worked for me for what I needed. It is for sale...so hopefully the next owner will do some good improvements...there's still potential for this old lodge

The manager said it's upon request but we heard them offer a couple ahead of us that service so assumed it was included. We had one hand towel and one washcloth in our room. When I request more at the front desk I was told they were all in the laundry. Pool is very cold 70s and hot tub is gross. "Breakfast" includes lots of junk like pop tarts and packaged mini muffins. For the price, I'd go elsewhere.

Between the full kitchen and the free, new laundry machines, this place is an excellent deal. The staff is really friendly and accommodating, I was able to text them and they provided laundry detergent and dryer sheets for free, late check-out, and more. The location is excellent, we were able to walk to/from downtown Durango and enjoy the scenic river nearby. Parking is easy and fast, making check-in and check-out smooth. Lastly, the bedroom had nice views and was quite large, with a small balcony to enjoy a meal on.

I have never stayed at a place that felt so homely. The bed was comfy and thank goodness there was no down comforter- I get so hot with those no matter the temp. They also own a restaurant and bar next door- such a convenience! My mom and I enjoyed some cold brew and beers outside while waiting for our check in time. Hands down, the best place I've stayed!
