This is a room on the main floor. Each morning we woke at 6:30, but I wasn't able to hear any noise other than a toilet flush here and there from other rooms. This was a huge win!! I feel as though all of us guests were a big family being respectful of each other's time, noise and peace level. The views are AMAZING. This place is nestled right in front of some beautiful Mountain Views. You get breakfast every morning including some yummy goodies, water is always available (big plus, we didn't have to buy water over and over!), and fresh cookies are always on the table! Downstairs is an area to watch TV with couches, table to relax or play games (provided). My husband and I truly felt like we were at home. This place was truly my favorite part of our entire trip. It was so great to have no stress where we laid our heads to sleep. Walter and Jodi are the best!! If you're on the fence about booking, this is your sign!! It's worth it.

They made you feel super comfortable and the B&B was more than what I was expecting. The grounds were gorgeous with a huge yard. We were fortunate to land the Golden Oak room which was quiet and away from all the other rooms. Additionally this room had views of gorgeous backyard with deer and turkeys in the early morning. Everything was clean and cozy. Breakfast was plenty. Thank you J&W! I will be returning!!

Honestly, we almost skipped this place because the Google hours made it seem closed, but we decided…read moreto try the door anyway -- luckily, they were open. Definitely glad we checked. This is the kind of charming, historic Durango experience you hope to find downtown. The atmosphere inside the hotel and restaurant feels authentic and welcoming, with old Western character throughout. The bartender was even dressed in theme, which added to the experience without feeling gimmicky. We stopped in during April while wandering downtown Durango during the off-season, when many places were either closed or only opening later for dinner service. We just came in for drinks, but it ended up being a really enjoyable little break from exploring. Since the restaurant is part of the historic hotel, even walking to the restroom gives you a chance to see some of the beautiful vintage details and history of the property. Our bartender -- a gentleman in a hat -- was attentive and friendly, and a lady in costume shared some interesting history about the hotel and building. Great little pit stop whether you're staying at the hotel or just passing through downtown. Would absolutely stop in again.

From the moment you walk through the doors, you feel like you've stepped into another era--in the best way possible. The Victorian charm, the historic details, the creaky wood floors, the antique furnishings... it all creates this warm, intimate atmosphere that you simply don't get at modern chain hotels. It feels authentic, not staged. Our room was cozy and beautifully appointed, with thoughtful touches that made it feel special rather than standard. The entire property is impeccably maintained, and the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and clearly proud of the hotel's history. The location is perfect--right in the heart of downtown Durango--so you can stroll to shops, restaurants, and along Main Avenue without ever moving your car. That made the whole weekend feel relaxed and easy. If you're looking for a place with personality, history, and romance, the Strater delivers. It was the perfect setting to celebrate our anniversary, and we're already talking about when we can return.

Homebody was our room/suite and it's very spacious and quiet. We feel like we were staying at a family member's house, it was so cozy and there's so much character in the building and hallways. It is on the second story and it has stairs, but we love the ability to walk right out. We also have been pleased with the friendliness of the person operating the phones here. Highly recommend!

We got the Homebody room, which had a king size bedroom, and a full-size pull out coach in the living room. Also a kitchen with all the utensils you'd need. The look of the apartment was definitely eclectic - bright shades of yellow and pink splashed across the walls. Plus, a polka dot bathroom. The decor was fun too. An old school radio, suitcase, and telephone were among the many items on the shelves. These rooms certainly aren't anything fancy, but everything was clean and tidy. It's nice that check in is contactless. You simply get a set of directions emailed to you once you book letting you know the code to get in. Parking is limited but they do give you a parking pass so you're all set. Also great is its location. Truly the center of downtown, within walking distance to all the shops, bars, restaurants, and coffee joints you could need. The one bummer was a leaking ceiling in our unit's bathroom. Hopefully they get that sorted ASAP because it was quite bad. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to travelers passing through!
