Came up from Az to attend a wedding for my gf's sister & stayed here. Couldn't have been happier. The Inn is located just north of Durango but you're only maybe 15 min from "downtown". The owner were great and place had so much character. Would definitely stay again & would highly recommend to any friends or family. I cannot imagine rating this anything less than 5 stars-- we stayed in the Liberty Cottage, which was so spotlessly clean and fresh. Loved our super comfortable bed, and the shower was hot with great pressure. There is a small fridge/freezer in your room, access to a grill close to the main house. No stove/oven as it's not that type of property. Any meals outside of breakfast are encouraged al fresco on your private back porch, other numerous outdoor areas, or inside their spacious main house which is open to guests at all hours for lounging, eating. They serve a wonderful short-order breakfast each morning (we had breakfast burritos, omelettes) and have coffee/cookies the rest of the day. The owners, Jim and Lesley, are so very welcoming and make you feel right at home. A fun bonus is they actually have about 90 fruit trees on the property, most of them apple, which they use to make pies, jams, and sauces there. The property is beautifully maintained and brings peace. We would definitely return next time we're in Durango! read more

Quaint & homey. Leslie and Jim are amazing people who definitely have a knack for hospitality. We started off our trip rocky hitting a deer just down the road from them. Jim & Leslie offered to drive us to town if we needed. Jim ended up taking us to the Durango airport to get our rental car the next day. Every morning there is fresh breakfast. And if you're worried about health & safety standards I can assure you CO has regulations for bed & breakfast owners & Leslie takes them seriously! The eggs are from their chickens on site. The apples are from their trees. Leslie is an amazing cook & baker. They also have pies which are all handmade. I recommend the apple & green Chile if there are any *drool* The views are amazing as well. The room we stayed in was McIntosh. I thought it was adorable & it had a mini fridge. There's a microwave in the common area downstairs. Repeat customers for sure! read more

We had such a lovely stay at the Apple Orchard Inn! I was initially torn on where to stay during our upcoming trip to Durango, but was SO happy that we settled on this spot. Many of the reviews highlighted the friendly owners Leslie and Jim and our experience confirmed these! From the moment we set foot inside, Leslie greeted us with kind words and offered us some of their homemade brownies and coffee. Throughout the stay whenever we ran into her she'd ask about our adventures and offer suggestions for other fun things to do. Breakfast on the patio in the morning was my favorite. It was so peaceful sitting out by the pond listening to the birds sing. Like Leslie, the assistant working the breakfast shift was so kind and we enjoyed our complementary breakfast burritos. As some people have mentioned, with no AC the room got a little hot, but growing up without central AC it was nothing I couldn't handle. Plus, it was nice to have the windows open and fresh air blowing in. I've already recommended the Apple Orchard Inn to several friends and will continue to do so. We had never been to a B&B so my wife and I thought we would try it - so never again. issues TRUTH only 1. Hosts were OK but felt they did not like us - my wife is Hispanic. Conversation seemed awkward and you could tell they are tolerating people as a way to make money 2. The room was adequate for me but the one I bought for the grand-kids forced grandson to sleep on a pop-out couch- he's a big kid so was not comfortable 3. Breakfast day was some kind of small Quiche where the crust was cardboard, the the eggs bland with no flavor. Needless to say day 2 and 3 we ate out. 4. The bill was for $1453 for 3 nights 2 rooms. so that's $484 per night - then the kids room the sheets and towels had a little light dirt on them so they charged another 26.23 - The Hilton would never do that - they sent pictures but what I saw was light and there is no real way to confirm it was our grand kids - I did review their room before we left and did not see what they show in their pictures 5. They did have games to play but they were not well kept, so I repaired their boxes and sorted and organized their game we used. They did not compensate me for doing this for them. My impression was they could care less. 6. We used bed bug lights and brought Lysol - did not find any - the rooms had no iron or ironing board so had to ask for them. No bugs or spiders detected. 7. The bathtub leaked and did not fully go up to the shower head 8. We brought a Air Quality device to measure PM2, PM10, CO2, HCHO2 TVOC and day one it indicated that TVOC was dangerously high. Everything else was normal. I showed the owner the image/picture of the Air Quality and his only question was "Can I have that" which was appropriate as this is a $1000 device and its mine. I will report this to the EPA and other governmental organizations. ; .64 and higher. The owners did not investigate and did not seem to care about our personal health /safety 9. Day 2 TVOC seem to lower to normal to about .46- not sure why. read more

What a cute hidden gem!! Although we didn't stay in one, the cottages are adorable. My husband and I stayed in the Main House, in a room called Jonagold (all the rooms are named after different apples). Kathi Clamp, the owner/daily breakfast maker, is warm and welcoming. Her breakfast are all homemade every morning. Yummy and very filling. You can tell she loves what she does and takes pride in her property. My husband and I will definitely be coming back....and will be staying in one of those cute cottages. read more

Very old worn outdated and unkempt. See photos! Weeds in the planters,stained carpet, holes in the walls, decor from 99 cent store...yuck! Handle fell off in bathroom, thin old sheets( (thank God I brought my own pillow)! Bathroom rug was frayed, towels mismatched and old. Tiny tv 6' up on high mantle of dusty fireplace...getting the picture? How could ANYONE give this place more than 2s????? Maybe it's fallen into disrepair since Covid but sorry, the grounds are a mess, pond is gross, weeds, cobwebs,tangled wild vines and rotting apples....ugh! Needs a lot of tlc and elbow grease to get to just acceptable. Kitchen had dishes piled in the sink and a cluttered counter that I think was supposed to be a wine offering. Front porch is junky and littered with leaves....complete with boxes buckets and a fridge! Only thing missing is a ratty recliner and banjo!!! Hey just a quick sweep would help. Inside front door was a big folding screen hiding a wall of junk! Breakfast was meh burritos that my husband had one bite of and he is not picky!!! I would never recommend this place. This did not have the quaint B&B experience we were expecting. We stayed in the main house which had a feeling of staying in someone's suburban home rather than an b&b inn. We were welcomed by storage bins of kids toys in the living room and toddler gates and reminders to not leave things open because of pets. The room was clean but the bed was well used. Check out the "canoes". Breakfast was served 8-8:30. Unfortunately we had to leave earlier and the proprietor seemed a bit put out as we left. read more

I know it's changed hands since I was last there. Hopefully, it has improved. We were guests several times (5 or 6) because it was so beautiful, especially when it was in bloom. The cabins were very comfortable. However, the breakfast were OK but do not request anything different because it was refused. Beautiful setting perfect for a cocktail hour...or wine (or a perfect wedding venue), but nothing was offered. My personal issue as a hydrologist was watering every morning for hours when it was not necessary and with the SW in a severe drought. Just so wrong. We will be back at some point. I can tell there have been changes....hopehopefully for the better. read more

Can not recommend. When we needed a jump to get our truck started...the owner couldn't be bothered with her new truck possibly being damaged by giving me a jump. Made no sense to us but the groundskeeper came to our rescue. It's a nice property and nice rooms but the negative experience with the owner around our truck issue really took everything away positive in our minds about this place. read more

The Apple Orchard Inn was a delightful experience. Jim and Leslie are kind and attentive hosts. Our cottage was immaculate, quiet, well decorated and cozy. Nothing better than sitting on the porch reading in the evening! The setting is simply lovely as are the entire grounds. We were served a fresh and delicious breakfast in the morning by our hosts, prepared to our personal preferences. The location is just far enough outside Durango to feel secluded but close enough to quickly get into town. There is plenty to do in the area whether it is hiking nearby trails or riding the Durango - Silverton train. Jim and Leslie have only owned the Inn for 2 years so please ignore older reviews. We had such a wonderful time at Apple Orchard Inn! They are so right in calling it a sanctuary - between the gorgeous flowers and flowing water along the trails to the cottages, the ample shade provided by all those various varieties of apples and other types of trees, and the many cosy places to sit and enjoy nature, it was so restful and rejuvanative, especially after all the long drives and hikes we had leading up to our stay there. We thoroughly enjoyed conversing with each and every one of the staff. Their courtesy, attentiveness to detail, and warmth made us feel very cossetted and cared for. My wife and I have traveled around the world, to every continent except the Arctic and Antarctic, and have stayed in many, many bed and breakfasts in many countries and throughout the United States. This beautiful haven is our all time favorite, and we're eagerly looking forward to our next visit there! read more

We had a delightful stay at Apple Orchard inn. We stayed in the Red Baron cottage. It was comfortable and They had a twin sleeper sofa for my son. As noted - there is no A/C in the cottage so it was uncomfortable when we were there for a few hours in the late afternoon. However, it cooled down at night (like everywhere in Colorado) and with the windows opened was considerably cool at night. My son had a magical time exploring the gardens, the water features and running to see the train when he heard it coming. By the way, breakfast each day was amazing! The first morning was huevos rancheros and the 2nd day was migas with a homemade scone. Each breakfast started out with a yogurt parfait as well. Kathi also was able to accommodate my son and and modify the meal to his tastes. Portions were plentiful. My son also loved the cookies available at the main house, while we enjoyed stopping by for a beer at happy hour. This was a stay we enjoyed coming back to to play cards and games outside after a long day being outdoorsy in Durango and Silverton. I would love to come back. read more

My husband and I stayed in the Red Baron cottage July 7-9. Kathi, the innkeeper, greeted us as we were exploring the beautiful grounds. She was very friendly and helpful, offering suggestions for places to eat and things to see and do. The cottage is tastefully decorated and very comfortable, with several large windows through which to see the lovely surroundings and let in the cool Colorado breeze! We had great expectations when making our reservations to come here. The photos and descriptions on the website are pristine and appealing. However, what is on the website is not exactly as described as what it is in real life. We reserved the Prairie Sky cottage. Positives first-- it is very clean and cozy. That part is exactly spot on. The cottage was neatly organized and decorated, and was perfect for two people. The location of the inn is a few miles outside of town and offers views of the mountains from the pond on the grounds. There was a tree blooming outside of the cottage that smelled absolutely wonderful. Also, breakfast was brought to our porch table around 8:40 each morning. Negatives-- one of the biggest reasons we chose the Prairie Sky over other cottages/rooms is because it was advertised as having air conditioning where others do not. Upon first arrival, it was extremely hot in the cottage. However, after looking around, we realized there was no air conditioner at all. We called Kathi and she explained that she does not offer A/C until June because "we're in the mountains, just open your windows." It would have been nice to know that's what we were in for, and that we were not getting what was advertised. I would recommend Kathi put that she only offers A/C (I'm assuming a portable/window unit?) only during the hottest months of the year on the website. The owner's lack of concern to accommodate was a bit unsettling as well. It did get warm to us the second evening and I didn't like the idea of keeping the windows open at night, but oh well... we got to hear the stray cats scratch around on the exterior to boot. Also, while I'm sure it's very pretty in the summer, the areas around the cottage porches and stream that runs through the middle of the property were a bit weedy and looked like the lawn service/groundskeeper was a few weeks past due. I type all of this to say that while our stay was generally nice, just be prepared that it's not exactly as portrayed on the website. read more

The grounds are exquisite. The inn keepers are genuinely cheerful and helpful. It was nice to arrive to hot cookies and an offer for an adult beverage after we checked in. We stayed in the MacIntosh room. Spacious and well appointed, the bed was unfortunately not the most comfortable but the surroundings more than made up for it. It is like you are in another world here. The breakfast is made to order and they were happy to accommodate my vegetarian husbands food demands. They were helpful with recommendations for restaurants in the area. The resident dog and the cat were also an added joy (especially since their cat could be a fuzzier doppleganger for our Cricket at home). We didn't get a chance to use the hot tub but we sure were tempted last night. If you find yourself in Durango, stay at the Apple Orchard Inn but you may want to pick a different apple room than ours, for the beds sake. read more

We r driving down from Denver on thanksgiving night, and weren't really sure we'd get a place. Kathy was fabulous, stayed past her usual check in time and accommodated us. We stayed in the cottage, which on hindsight was a bad move. The house was toasty with a roaring fire. The cottage uses radiator heat, which comes from the bathroom floor. It is supposed to take awhile to warm up, but the place stayed under 60, so that was hard. If you leave aside the heating though, the place is gorgeous. The cottage was adorable beyond compare with exposed beams and windows all around. I loved their apple scented glycerin soap as well. Kathy's a miracle baker and our breakfast was scrumptious. She provided us with a road atlas to plan our next leg and gave us pointers for our road trip. Definitely stay here, but opt the house rooms in winter, if you're not used to cold weather. read more

Let me start with how beautiful the land and layout is. Being from Las Vegas NV- it seemed like an amazing get away from the city. However my stay was far less than satisfactory and I did not even stay a single night that I had reserved months in advance. First- reservation was for a cottage and we ended up getting stuck in a bedroom in what seemed like someone's suburban home on the 2nd story. Room was nice, but it was hot. The thermostat wouldn't work and when I asked about it the manager told me there was no ac and that I shouldn't worry because it gets cool at night. I let that go. As soon as I arrived something caused my son to have a severe allergic reaction- I was rushing out the door and explained what was happening to the manager and all she had to say was that she didn't want kids in her main house and that if she knew that I had kids I wouldn't have been booked there. I didn't want the tiny and hot room anyway lol I wanted a cottage but she seemed so inconvenienced that she felt the need to tell my son- who is on his way to the hospital that he "had better be on his best behavior". Shortly after that they changed my reservation for me to only 1 night and emailed me letting me know I would have to be out by 11am the next morning. Not sure if this is what they consider human decency or "customer service" but I certainly don't. I can go stay at any cheap motel 8 for way less than what I paid her and get way more. And my kids will be welcome. I will not be back and every opportunity I have from this point forward will be to inform friends and family that this is not the hotel to stay at when visiting Durango Colorado. read more

If you're ever in Durango or want a get away weekend go to The Apple Orchard Inn. This B&B is awesome. The breakfasts are made by the owners who lived in Belgium and studied French cooking. It's awesome. We stayed in the cottage rather than the lodge. You won't be disappointed. Want to make it a great night? Have the owner cook you a special dinner (extra charge of course) then go to Trimble Hot Springs for a soak. You will sleep like a rock and wake up to an awesome breakfast. read more

We stayed in one of the romantic cottages and it was like our own private oasis. The sound of the babbling brook could be heard from our cottage. Only downside was no WIFI in the cottages. My wife and I, ever since we have been married, annually go on a weekend getaway to a B&B in our area. This year we decided on the Apple Orchard Inn. We stayed in the Liberty cabin. I truly want everyone looking for the perfect getaway to be aware of some of the big deal breakers I faced during our weekend: * First and foremost, I had the hardest time getting the heat just right, as the cabin used floor heating (I have never had this problem before at and B&B or hotel). We usually sleep around 62 degrees, so I did my best to set the temperature to that setting with a thermostat form the 80's and happily went to bed, only to wake up a few hours later shivering. So I got up and bumped up the temperature a little and went back to bed, only to wake up another few hours later roasting. I finally settled at a temperature between the two and 6 hours later the temperature was finally where my wife and I could sleep. Also, when the heater is running, the bathroom floor will get so hot that if you stand on it barefoot, after a short time it would burn your feet. * The bed was super uncomfortable and SOFT (but not a soft-where-a-person-buys-it-that-way-because-they-like-it but a soft-like-the-mattress-is-20-years-old-and-breaking-apart). This age theory does not just play out for the mattress, but for everything in the cabin; The fridge (which had a high pitched hum--we unplugged it), TV, couch, linens, carpet, and other furniture. It is like Kathi bought it from the previous owners 8 years ago and it needed some work, but she never did the work it needed. * My impression of Kathi is that she does not love what she does and is in it for the money. Yes, she is all smiles and is helpful; yes, she is quick to pick up your plates at breakfast and provide drinks for happy hour, but it all feels insincere, something I have never experienced at a B&B before. This was our babymoon--our last trip together just the two of us before our baby comes. We had a fantastic weekend because my wife is awesome. But I was very embarrassed to have spent money on this B&B. The grounds look nice, the privacy is good and the nice big Jacuzzi tub was fun. The breakfasts were okay but not great. The time window was 8:00 - 8:45 for breakfast, early and short. I also truly hope that Kathi will sell this place to someone who cares and wants to bring the life of this little treasure back!! When this happens I will consider going back. read more

We stayed for 2 days over Christmas. The place was beautiful and a nice quite location. The room was cozy, we stayed in the Fireside cottage. The heat was slow and doesn't really heat the main room as well as I expected, but the bathroom was very warm. The shower control was broken and it was very difficult to regulate water temperature, as it spun both directions in a complete circle. The Innkeeper, Kathi, wasn't the best we've ever experienced. A bit bossy and not as friendly as we expected from a B&B. It certainly wasn't the best experience we had at a B&B. Anytime we entered the main house, outside of breakfast time, it felt as though we were interrupting, or barging in on their family time. She acted quite put off that we showed up a few times outside of mealtime. Breakfast felt like being back in grade school, as we were told to move to different seats after we sat down. Breakfast was served from 8;00 AM to 8:45 AM, promptly. Everyone was served individually so if you were last one in you waited while everyone else ate. One gentleman explained to Kathi that his wife was not ready yet and she should be along shortly as she was getting their infant child ready. Kathi explained that breakfast ended at 8:45 and if she wasn't there by that time, she would not be served. Merry Christmas. Overall, not the best, not the worst. If it were the grounds and a different innkeeper, we would stay again. Kathi is not well suited for the hospitality industry. read more
