Can't say anything about the rooms or location--I'm sure they're amazing as we were really looking…read moreforward to our stay, but I must comment on their customer service. On the day we were set to drive up from Arizona, I passed out, fell, and suffered a severe head injury and concussion. My wife had to rush me to the hospital. Naturally, dealing with an emergency took priority, but as soon as things stabilized later that same day, my wife reached out to inform them. No one answered the phone, so she sent an email detailing the medical emergency. We fully understood forfeiting our initial ~$300 deposit due to the late notice. What is completely unacceptable is that the property never called or emailed us back--they simply processed an additional charge on my card for around $900, bringing the total paid to over $1,300 for a stay we couldn't make due to a medical crisis. When my wife finally made contact with them today, the manager essentially told her "tough luck." He offered 50% off a future stay, but why would we ever return to a business with zero empathy? Because of my concussion, I cannot drive, and my wife does not drive long distances, making a rescheduled trip impossible anyway. As a business owner myself, I would never treat a customer experiencing a genuine emergency like this. Penalties are understandable, but charging full price and showing complete indifference is terrible business practice. If you book here, keep in mind that if a true life emergency happens, they will still take every penny

Well, to start this review I will have to tell you my booking experience with Trip Advisor…read more Beware of outdated information and pictures. The photos they have are from 2014-2015, and there is a link that goes to the lodge that shows more updated information and pictures. Booking with the lodge directly was easy and efficient. They do have a different check in that I had not done before. It was pretty easy and simple. Make sure and read everything before you go. My room was ok but, there are a few issues I noticed and had. 1st- my keyless door battery went out and had to text and call someone to come to put batteries in it. I did not appreciate the person who text me after I relayed the problem and acted as if I didn't know what I was doing. I have a keyless entry installed at my own home and when the batteries go out it will not work. No beep, nothing. They told me my keyless code, as if that was the issue. It was not. The person that came out to assist tried my code and another code, then had to call someone to unlock with a key....because the batteries were dead. Not once did anyone try to accommodate me for the issue. 2-one of the outlets didn't work. 3-door does not have good seal, bugs were coming in. 4- loud noise from room to the right, upstairs and from the road. I was in room #16. Air conditioner was very loud & remote had no batteries. To reach it to adjust temperature I had to use a chair. 5-floors were not swept. 6- not a good area to take your dog out to do their business. I would say that it was a ok walk to downtown Durango. The animas river walk was nice and you're going get your steps done. If you go right, then take a right at the first street that area is nice to walk your dog. There is also the off leash park not too far from there that was nice. I took a chance with this place, and I was disappointed and now I know. It worked for me for what I needed. It is for sale...so hopefully the next owner will do some good improvements...there's still potential for this old lodge

Out in Durango on a fire contract, and this was the only place available with 3 rooms for the crew and I. There were hairs in the bed, and I didn't even shower in the morning because the room was disgusting, I honestly considered sleeping in the car. The pilot in my crew had a more recently updated room, but there were literal "evidence" stickers on the outside of his window like it had been part of a crime scene. You would think the owner of the cleaners would have removed them considering it probably bad for business. Anyways please don't waste your money staying in this cesspool!!

By contrast, our cabin had matching dish sets, glass sets, wine glasses, towels, sheets, etc. etc. There was nothing lacking, at all. There was even a nice tote bag full of newspapers to start the fire pit, and a ziploc bag of matches in the side pouch. They thought of everything! Details - there was an oven, stove top, refrigerator, dishwasher, washer, dryer and really nice grill on the front porch. The bed was high quality (my back lets me know if not). The location is beautiful. It's only a couple of minutes from downtown Pagosa but feels like it's in the middle of nowhere. It's surrounded by horse farms and we saw plenty of deer walking around the area, including right in front of our cabin one morning! This is the best of both worlds, run by the owner so it has that personal touch, but in a very professional manner. There were also none of those annoying add-ons like a cleaning fee, security deposit, etc. that surprise you at the end of the booking. The advertised price is truly what you pay (plus taxes of course). Thank you Jennifer for making our stay wonderful. This will be our weekend getaway go to place from now on.

My wife Renae and I escaped the desert to attend a car show in Pagosa Springs (a GREAT car show, by the way!) and needed a place to stay. There is not enough room in this review to tell you how perfect our stay was! Angie greeted us upon our arrival and showed us our "Cabin". We stayed in "The Peaks" and if you are thinking these are rustic old cabins, think again! These are finely crafted homes with every amenity you would ever need! The furnishings and décor are first rate and give that "Colorado" mountain feel that we were looking for. They have a washing machine and dryer, full size refrigerator, full size stove and oven and all of the necessary dinnerware and utensils needed (including wine glasses!) if you choose to stay secluded for a week and cook your own meals. The bed was super comfy and there is even a whirlpool tub to relax in at the end of the day! The cabins are QUITE and make you feel as though you are 10 miles from anywhere with incredible sweeping views of the Continental Divide. The amazing thing is that these cabins are literally 2 minutes from downtown Pagosa Springs! You are that close to restaurants and activities! And when you are done you are moments from your tranquil oasis! We will DEFINITELY stay here again! On a side note - Renae and I are both photographers and I made a point of getting up at 3:00am to photograph the Milky Way. The stars and Milky Way are the most vivid and bright we have ever seen! As I said, I could go on and on about our stay but suffice it to say that Angie and Ken are the best hosts ever and The Cabins at Hartland Ranch are simply amazing.
