The Inn keepers are incredibly kind and thoughtful. Our flight was suppose land at 3:30 pm. We ended up arriving at 1:30 am in the following day. We texted Walter. He left a person note to welcome us and clear signs to help us to find our room easily and connect to WiFi. Our room was clean, cozy, and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. It included bagels, muffins, hard boiled, coffee, juice, eggs, pastries, fruit... there are big-comfortable dining tables inside and outside on the deck. The back deck has lovely mountain views. There are lots hummingbirds and deer. The Inn is in a peaceful-quiet spot. You pull out of the short dirt road and go about 15 minutes straight down route 550 into downtown Durango for restaurants. The hot springs are about 8 minutes away. We sincerely appreciate the wonderful hospitality we experienced at this sweet inn. read more

This is the most unique, quaint, and sweet places I have ever stayed! We were first welcomed by Walter who showed us around and helped us feel at home. Our room was the sunshine room. This is a room on the main floor. Each morning we woke at 6:30, but I wasn't able to hear any noise other than a toilet flush here and there from other rooms. This was a huge win!! I feel as though all of us guests were a big family being respectful of each other's time, noise and peace level. The views are AMAZING. This place is nestled right in front of some beautiful Mountain Views. You get breakfast every morning including some yummy goodies, water is always available (big plus, we didn't have to buy water over and over!), and fresh cookies are always on the table! Downstairs is an area to watch TV with couches, table to relax or play games (provided). My husband and I truly felt like we were at home. This place was truly my favorite part of our entire trip. Jodi and Walter were so sweet and friendly. The moment we walked in, Jodi welcomed us right in and gave us a tour. She took her time with us and had this calming presence to her. They made you feel super comfortable and the B&B was more than what I was expecting. The grounds were gorgeous with a huge yard. We were fortunate to land the Golden Oak room which was quiet and away from all the other rooms. Additionally this room had views of gorgeous backyard with deer and turkeys in the early morning. Had a very lovely stay here this past month. The owners of this beautiful bed and breakfast clearly value their customers and want everyone to have a great stay. We loved all the little things available to do, watch movies, play games, enjoy the outdoors on a hammock, on a deck, or in a jacuzzi. There are seriously no words for this adorable, amazing B&B! I felt like they should've charged us way more for this unforgettable experience! First of all, the location is convenient (~15-20 mins to Durango downtown, 15 mins to Purgatory ski resort). It is peaceful, right near the Animas river and you can walk about 30 mins from the B&B to Baker's bridge to see the emerald water, where the famous jump scene from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was filmed. You can also watch birds and squirrels from the upstairs breakfast table all day. Secondly, the amenities themselves were very cozy and lovely. The rooms are warm, spacious (and we reserved the "smallest" room) and stocked with shampoo, conditioner, lip balm, soap and jolly ranchers! There is a fridge downstairs that has beer, water and soda available all day every day, and a jar of chocolates upstairs as well! There is also a hot tub, and if you forgot your bathing suit, fear not, because they keep a stash of bathing suits you can borrow too! Thirdly: the food. My god, the food. Walter states he was never trained as a chef but these gourmet breakfasts and desserts are to die for. The morning fruit parfait alone is a masterpiece-- while we stayed there, we had sweet potato waffles with pecans and sausage; delicious macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup and sausage on the side; and crispy bacon with a homemade corn muffin and cheese quiche! The desserts are equally ridiculously good-- as are the cookies that are baked fresh and made available all day. Fourthly, the people: plenty of couples stay there, young and old, and all are of a similar mindset- they enjoy nature, they are super kind, and they are a pleasure to be around. It was like having breakfast with family (and in the meantime, getting great suggestions of things to do during the day!) Also there is a really old dog and cat there and they are adorable, sweet and not bothersome or threatening at all. Just an FYI if anyone has allergies. Would highly, highly recommend you stay here. What a great place! I have a short list of places that I would stay again and again and highly recommend to family and friends. The Country Sunshine Bed-and-Breakfast is one of these places. This is the best bed and breakfast I have ever stayed at! The owners were able to accommodate our last-minute booking, and were understanding about our late arrival. Despite not checking in until almost 9:00 p.m, we were still offered several types of desserts, coffee, and tea. Our room was very comfortable and the breakfast was AMAZING. The owners even think of all the "creature comforts" their guests might need - there were small packets of medicine (e.g. Tylenol, Pepto, etc) available in the main living area, beeswax lip balm in the rooms, and a fridge fully stocked with wine, beer, and bottled water. Travelers beware! We stayed here the last couple nights on our big trip to CO with hopes of getting some good rest. If you need a good nights sleep this isn't the place and what makes it worse is the owners didn't really care. They are nice but greedy! They promise one thing and when you get the opposite, they'll still ask you to pay full price. The walls are paper thin and I woke up both mornings to hearing the hair dryer in the next room. We've stayed here twice. The first was several years ago when moving to Durango. The second time was last fall during covid. The hosts are great and the setting is amazing! The breakfast was delicious on both visits, even though we couldn't all eat together during pandemic times. But it was actually a real treat to sit on the deck I've never seen so many hummingbirds! A little slice of heaven. Country Sunshine is refreshing and relaxing. It is 10 miles away from Durango and the perfect location for peace and quiet. The hummingbirds gathered on the back patio while we ate Walter's incredible breakfast (lemon waffles) and listened to the rushing river. Every night Walter also makes a dessert. For us it was a Avocado Chocolate Torte. Homemade chocolate chip cookies are always on the table and local beer always in the fridge. My favorite part: the hot tub runs all night. Our second stay at this great B & B. We spent 3 nights in the Early Bird room with a nice view out the large picture window. The room looks out to the bird feeder, but if YOU are not an early bird (early riser) you should select another room as this one is beneath the kitchen where breakfast prep starts before 7. Spacious and clean room, very good bed and pillows, standard bathroom with a nice shared area just outside the door. Great location for skiing, about 20 minutes to Purgatory and less than that to get to Durango. Breakfast and dessert were always very good, and the hosts are friendly and knowledgeable. The hot tub was wonderful after trying to ski all day. This is the best bang for your buck in the Durango area. Not luxurious or new, but it feels homey and welcoming. read more

This place is a hidden gem, with this being the first yelp review, maybe I am letting the cat out of the bag. It is impossible to check in here as the cell phone is a bit low on signal and the internet thinks that you are several miles away from where you are (did that make sense- I am confused?) Anyway, back to the bed and breakfast. This place is way beyond fabulous. The lodge like feeling is wonderful, The hosts are so completely genuine. I mean the best. The rate was incredibly low for what you get. The grounds have EVERYTHING! The breakfasts are top notch, and really gourmet. The fire in the evening downstairs was delightful. The refrigerator is stocked with beer and soda for guests. There are fresh cookies and sometimes a hot dessert in the evening are generously given. The library is well stocked and the hosts will guide you around Durango if you ask. A WONDERFUL chocolate jar (with some Hershey golden almond pieces (the best) ) is by the front door and a hot tub, and ... and I guess you probably get it by now. This is by far the best B&B I have ever stayed in. I stayed for a week in the Early Bird room. The room is right under the kitchen. So, be prepared to hear a lot of walking during the day. It didn't bother me at all. I was mainly out everyday and by the time I got back the place is very quiet. Walters breakfast and desserts till 9:00pm was so tasty and delicious. I believe the food he makes are made from scratch. When I spoke to Jodi, his wife, on the phone before I got there she gave me great suggestions of places where I can see. My birthday week was completed when Anya, there dog, gave me a birthday card. If I ever visit Durango again, definitely will return to Country Sunshine. read more

Jodi and Walter were amazing hosts! Such friendly people! When we arrived we were greeted immediately by Norma and she gave us a tour of the place. We were shown to our room and were very happy with the size of our room. It was so comfortable! We had to leave to meet friends in Durango for dinner but were told dessert would be ready when we returned. I had a white mousse and my wife had flourless chocolate cake... SO GOOD! The company of the other guests was wonderful as well. We discussed cats, dogs, and vacation memories. It was an amazing time with people we just met that felt like longtime friends. They had complimentary drinks in the fridge: beer, wine, bottled water, etc. And snacks! We slept great there as well! When we woke up in the morning breakfast filled the air. We gathered in the common space with the other guests and shared conversation over a wonderful breakfast! Starting with a fresh fruit cup with yogurt, lemon waffles with crushed raspberries and 2 pieces of bacon, coffee and sharing of plans for the day! Walter helped us to find a trail to go jeeping on that afternoon. Jodi and Walter have a wonderful place and we will surely be back in the near future! After spending 5 nights at Country Sunshine B&B in July 2013, I am so excited to write the review for the outstanding experience that Walter, Jodi and the rest of the staff there created for us. The Food: Without a doubt, my favorite part of staying at Country Sunshine was the daily gourmet breakfasts. Walter is so creative with his recipes that you will fall in love with dishes that you would never expect. From blueberry pancakes to lemon ricotta muffins and italian sausage fritatta, I was eager to wake up every morning to see what was for breakfast! It's a huge compliment because we were on our honeymoon and enjoying all the amazing activities that Durango has to offer, but even then, breakfast was still a major highlight of our day! Walter also fixes dessert every night, which was always just as delicious as the breakfasts! In addition, there is a constant supply of freshly-baked chocolate chip toffee cookies- what more could you ask for? After I fell in love with his cooking (and gained 5 lbs in the process) I was so pleased to find that they keep a folder with extra copies of Walter's recipes. Walter assured me that if I wanted a recipe for anything that wasn't included in the book, Jodi would email it to me promptly. The Location: Located just a few miles north of Durango, Colorado, Country Sunshine is in the perfect area where you can enjoy the serene landscape outside the city, but it's still only a quick drive away from all the restaurants and shops in town. It was also perfect for us since we spent most of our days north of Durango at Durango Mountain Resort and in Silverton. Being a little farther north gets you closer to all the great activities in the area. During our stay, we took the scenic narrow gauge railroad to Silverton, went mountain biking at Durango Mountain Resort and rented ATV's in Silverton (twice because we loved it so much!) and went on a sunset jeep tour in the San Juan Mountains. We wish we could have spent another week there so we could've enjoyed the local hiking trails, gone horseback riding or ziplining. The Room/Amenities: With the experience of staying in 5 star hotels in the US and in Europe while on vacation, I can honestly say that I had the best overall experience at Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast. Our room was stocked with luxuries including an oversized jetted tub, a sheepskin rug in front of a beautiful stone fireplace, a dressing room with plenty of storage, and in the Golden Oaks room we had two walls of windows so we could open the blinds and see the lightning as thunderstorms rolled in at night. We also enjoyed the unrestricted use of the hot tub, the outdoor fire pit, hammocks, and watching the multitude of bird species that frequent the feeders next to the dining deck. Although these amenities really impressed me, what really made the trip were all the small touches that Walter and Jodi put into their B&B. From always having fresh cookies, fruit and popcorn to pop available, to providing refrigerator space which was stocked with wine, beer, soda and water, to always being helpful in making any reservations or inquiries you sought, it seems like they thought of everything. You can tell that they truly care about providing quality service to their guests. Conclusion: Overall, Jodi, Walter and the entire staff at Country Sunshine should be commended for providing such a memorable experience for their guests. Initially, I was apprehensive about booking my honeymoon stay at a B&B, but I could not be more pleased with my decision! Staying at Country Sunshine felt like staying at home (just a much more luxurious version of home with gourmet breakfasts, housekeeping and outstanding amenities).
