My experience at Blue Lake Ranch was spectacular. I traveled solo and stayed in The Sage Room. The views from almost every casita, cabin and larger accommodations were mind blowing. It was so quiet!! This is a wonderful place to stay. We could not think of a better way to enjoy our visit to Southwest Colorado. Durango is about 20 minutes away, but it's a relaxing, scenic drive and was never an issue. Mesa Verde is about 30 minutes to the west, however when you get there, it's another hour or so to most of the points of interest. If you want to enjoy the country side, nature all around with panoramic views of the mountains while also having creature comforts, solid bedding, climate control and hot water this is the way to go. Our family stopped here for the night and it was a wonderful experience. We booked at the last minute so the work staff had already gone for the day but we were able to reach someone by phone who walked us through the check-in process. Our two daughters were with us, (ages 19 and 23), and they enjoyed spending time on the patio taking pictures with the beautiful scenery in the background. We were able to rest while they took pics for a while. The room we stayed in was very clean and there was plenty of room. The staff were helpful and friendly. The next morning we were served a good breakfast from a buffet in their spacious kitchen. The house itself was clean and well decorated and there was a large dining room to eat in. There were also tables outside and that is where we chose to eat. The flowers surrounding the building were very pretty. It was a beautiful, peaceful, place. My girls said it was one of their favorite places we had ever stayed. There were plenty of opportunities for charging with USB stations on both sides of the bed and soft fluffy robes to wear. Everything looks better on the internet. pics don't show layers of dust on blinds,( Im allergic) , dead flies and bugs behind tables, filthy outdoor seat cushions, Not sitting there! This unit was the Sage. Obviously was not cleaned very well at all. I don't think the owner would sit outside either. Breakfast staff was outstanding! Breakfast was very Motel 8 buffet. If you are on a fixed income and have saved for 2 years to stay someplace really clean and special, this is not for you. This place is nothing like the website. Stay someplace else. Hubby and I stayed here for our anniversary. They little house they gave us was perfect. It had a patio, a reading nook, and a his and hers bathroom with a 2 person jetted tub. Staff in the breakfast room is not so helpful. They served a special mexican soup for breakfast. When asked if we can have eggs, the lady said a big NO. Eggs aren't expensive and not even hard to cook. Mexican soup is a specialty but does not seem appropriate for breakfast. Upholstery of the chairs in the dining table needs to be refurbished. A small child who sat on it would sink because its so old. read more

Our wedding venue was the Ridgewood Event Center at Blue Lake Ranch, which is just outside of Durango, CO. To be short and sweet, it was nothing short of a nightmare to work with them. We ultimately went through 4 wedding coordinators in 8 months, as they would all end up quitting. It took over 4 months from booking the venue to heat back from them when trying to book rooms in their Bed and Breakfast. On top of that, we had horrible service trying to get breakfast that was "included", and even had employees accidentally come into one of their rental houses at 1am when our guests were staying there. (Not on our wedding night!) The owners proceeded to say it was our fault for not locking the door? While there, we found out that though we took multiple trips there to finalize details, none of which were "in the system" and many decor/rentals etc were "unavailable". We also had rented and paid for a rehearsal at the site for the day before, but found out THAT DAY that another wedding had been booked at the same time for months and "oops". On top of all the mess, we hired (and paid) two bartenders from them, but only received one. Our tables/chairs etc were not in the same area as we designed and planned that day. (Instead of getting ready, I spent three hours at the venue trying to make it correct). Finally, as we tried to pack up our decor that night, their employees were taking our decor and putting it away in their decor sheds. We were met with hostility and disrespect when trying to show them how we brought all the decor. They ended up stealing over $500 worth of decor, including all the table runners I had bought, died and cut, our signs, candles, votives, and aisle decor. All I can say, is please, please do not work with them or use their venue. It was a beautiful space and has so, so much potential, but the staff and owners are not at all worth dealing with. I know that things should go wrong at wedding, as expected, but this was the most nightmare wedding situation I have ever been a part of. Overly priced, nightmare owners, and disrespectful staff. Just stay away. read more

Not recommended as a wedding venue. I opted to give their event planner the benefit of the doubt after reading several poor reviews about insufficient communication. Unfortunately, she did not prove the reviews wrong. Ignored calls, text and emails about finalizing a quote that would bring in thousands of dollars of revenue. It's too special of a day to support a venue that cannot follow through, so we've sought out another option. read more

We stayed in the lower spring house. They gave us a free upgrade. Unbelievably beautiful ranch. This is going to be a regular getaway for us! Only word of caution would be to go in an all wheel drive car- the approach road is steep and gets quite snowy. We got stuck going up and we had to be picked up by the lodge folks. read more

Heaven on earth... we stayed at Blue Lake Ranch - Oak Grove Casita - for a wedding. From the moment we arrived the staff was beyond hospitable and every bit accommodating to make you feel at home. We were given a quick tour and briefed on the history of the property...but I didn't really listen to him because I was in utter amazement of the beautiful landscaping and picturesque views. :/ There are cabins/guest houses dotted all along the property. Each one fully furnished (to my knowledge) with all the creature comforts you need. From free WIFI in the main houses' library, to satellite TV...and some with complete kitchens. And yes a small lake stocked with fish!!! Breakfast is served from 8-9:30 AM and a picnic style lunch at noon for you to take if you feel like exploring. Overall Blue Lake Ranch can serve as relaxation oasis for you and a special someone, or like my family... an excellent location for a reunion or wedding gathering. Sure its a bit of an effort to get there from Los Angeles, but trust me, Its even MORE of an effort to pack it up and leave. :( Cant wait to go back! read more

We stayed at the cabin on the lake this month. Cabin has a great old log cabin look & is on the lake. Great views & staff was great. But the following made the stay not to great. Water has a lot of sulfur ( worse ROTTEN egg smell. We tried candles, air freshener & toilet tables) nothing worked. All levels didn't have a AC. Second & third did however the third level exhaust hose was taped together & the hot air was directed into the room. Had cobwebs everywhere & door lock key was hard to get in & out of the lock. read more

I have stayed at Blue Lake Ranch twice, both times in the Sunrise Casita. The first trip was for my husband and I to check out the location for our wedding. It was pouring rain and completely dark the night we arrived, but we knew instantly that this would be our venue. The staff was phenomenal. They upgraded our room since they weren't completely full. The front desk staff was very helpful. The accommodations were exceptional: clean and comfortable with many extra items in the room like coffee, dishes and extra blankets. The breakfast each morning was amazing. Many options for even the pickiest of eaters and if you notify them ahead of your stay they will attempt to accommodate dietary needs. We booked the Ridgewood Event Center for our wedding on June 22, 2013. Many of our friends and family chose to stay with us at Blue Lake Ranch for the entire weekend and we were so glad they did! It was an amazing place to share that special time with everyone. There are plenty of activities in and around Durango, the location of the ranch is stunning and very peaceful and all of our guests couldn't believe how beautiful their rooms were. The staff went above and beyond for the entire weekend. The Ridgewood Event Center is an amazing wedding venue. Our guest list of 100 fit comfortably. The staff took care of all setup needs. They also supplied many of the basics (linens, dishware, silverware, glassware, chairs/tables for ceremony and dinner, etc.) which saved us rental fees through our caterer. They allowed us to bring our own alcohol which also helped our budget. Our event ran flawlessly thanks to their new coordinator. I loved that it was such a beautiful location - you really don't have to dress this place up at all to have a beautiful event. We have so many stunning photos thanks to their beautiful grounds, blossoming gardens and well maintained pathways on the property. We feel like we hit the jackpot with this venue and can't wait to spend many future anniversaries in this gorgeous place. read more

I found this wonderful, luxurious B&B on Durango.org. We recently stayed 2 nights. The manager, Russell Morris, is very friendly and accommodating. Talking with Russell was a very pleasant part of our visit. He is very knowledgeable, and during our stay we sat down with him and had a wonderful visit and learned about the ranch, innkeeping, and interesting facts about Colorado. We stayed in the Garden Room, a very large room with a Native American theme. Our room was quite large and open and included an antique desk, gas fireplace, dual recliners, and a beautiful and comfortable king bed. We had a private outdoor seating area and private garden entrance. Our private bath included dual sinks, a large closet, spacious cabinets, a soaker tub, and large separate shower. We also had an apartment-size refrigerator, microwave, and full size coffee pot (with coffee beans and grinder provided). The property is beautiful and peaceful and you are invited to enjoy the property which includes plenty of trees and flowers as well as a lake. We enjoyed walking and driving the 200 acre property. There are also several outdoor seating areas and a water feature to enjoy. While in our room we never heard any noise from any other guests. Because of the way the rooms are situated, you don't hear any hallway noise, slamming doors, road noise, etc. I can't say enough about how wonderfully peaceful, restful, and beautiful this property is. Each morning we enjoyed a bountiful gourmet breakfast buffet that prepares you for your day's adventures. The meals were prepared using quality fresh ingredients and always included an egg dish, meats, cheeses, oatmeal with various fruits and nuts, yogurt, fresh breads, local honey and jams, and fresh fruit including varieties of ripe berries, melon, grapes, etc. One day's offerings also included fresh baked biscuits and sausage gravy. The next day also included breakfast burritos with southwest chicken breast and eggs and peach strata with fresh peaches. The hearty breakfast will carry you through to dinner! You enjoy your meal with other guests in the large, southwestern dining room with large windows overlooking the gardens. The breakfast staff are very friendly and helpful. Beautiful B&B outside Durango! Lovely hosts, lovely grounds! My husband and I stayed in the Sunrise casita this past February (yes I'm that far behind), our travel companions in the Sunset casita. While not adjoined directly, they both open into a common tiny hallway (along with a third, smaller room which was unoccupied). They all have separate main entrances, as well. The set up is perfect if you are traveling with others. Leave the doors open when you want to share space, close them for privacy. Both larger casitas have a nice living area with fireplace, small table and chairs, and a very tiny kitchenette (sink, small fridge, microwave). The bedroom is large and has the only television, but you won't get many, if any, channels anyway. There is a collection of VCR (that means video cassette recorder, as in pre-streaming, pre-Blu-ray, pre-DVD) tapes in the main house.The bathrooms are HUGE by the way. Our hosts were quick to respond to a few minor problems. I guess hot water is more of a major problem when it's snowing outside, but he had it working before we finished breakfast. And the best part of any B&B stay is the breakfast, right? If not, you're in the wrong B&B. Jackie was in the main house every morning to greet her guests with a smile and a joke...and a very spectacular meal. There was always cereal and toppings, fresh fruit, toast and bagels, a breakfast pastry, some sort of breakfast meat(s) which included venison, and an egg dish. We also had the chance to try her yummy french toast and pancakes, too! I was a little worried my husband would get the wrong idea and actually start to believe he should get breakfast every morning, but all good things must come to an end. Location is great if you're looking to be near Durango, but planning on just hanging out at the B&B and enjoying the scenery or watching it snow. Not too convenient if you're there to ski. I'm definitely looking forward to more trips to Blue Lake. read more

AWESOME place and not hard to believe that this is in the top-10 B&B's nationwide. We stayed fr three nights in the Cedar Casita, with our two boys, and we were all so impressed and very comfortable. Upon reserving the room, I requested that they provide a bottle of sparkling cider instead of champagne so that the boys could join us in a toast to our vacation. No problem. I requested that they provide a telescope and a star guide in the room. No problem. We requested lunches be made for our trip to Mesa Verde. No problem and they even packed them with some ice to help keep them cool. Breakfast is northern New Mexico influenced, and quite good. The staff could not have been nicer. Distance from downtown Durango was less than 20 minutes. Simply for the views and the number of stars in the sky, the furnishings and fine art in the rooms, and the flowers, flowers and more flowers on the spectacular grounds, this is my new favorite B&B. The Cedar Casita is a two room casita with a very private patio. There is a large bathroom that can be separated by closing a door between the two halves. Each half has a toilet and a sink, and one has a two person jetted tub, while the other has a doorless shower. Coffee is provided in the room, and is whole beans with a grinder and a coffee pot. There was a refrigerator in the room. There is a large round table for four. This room can be adjoined to the casita next door for larger parties. The patio has two chaises and two chairs. Temperature was controlled by swamp cooler and ceiling fans, and was very comfortable. Views are amazing! read more

This place is fantastic. We stopped here on our way through SW Colorado, and I couldn't have been happier! We stayed in the Lake View Suite, and enjoyed the comfortable like home room. Like it's sister property, the main common areas had all the touches of home with brick floors, leather couches, chairs and decor of the region, carved pillars out on the porch....and so many other things. The kitchen where they cook the breakfast for the visitors is also to die for - in some future home, if I can have a kitchen like that I will be a ridiculously happy woman. The rooms in this location were stylistically more fully updated than their sister properly the Casa Blanca in Farmington NM though both places have amazing qualities. This location had really great touches with a spa tub, stained glass window in the bathroom, comfy couches, hardwood floors, great robes, a fireplace in the corner.... I'm sure the other rooms / lake house / casita's you can rent are similarly adorned. I can also see where this would be an amazing place for a family reunion or a wedding, or really just getting out of town for some time away and disconnected from work. It is also a very quick drive down to Durango, so still has great access to town. On top of all this, the staff was fantastic, welcoming and while the directions seemed a bit "daring" - it was no problem finding it. They also freshly paved their driveway which is new since the previous reviews were posted, though I can see where it would still be challenging in the snow. Do not stay here! Was kept up until 3:00 AM by raccoons. When we returned from breakfast, there were over 100 wasps inside our room; we had not left any windows or doors open, so they are getting in some other way. We were NOT refunded for this night despite repeated calls to their office. We were told by Sean that we would be. breathtaking... we stayed at blue ranch - pinon cabin - for a wedding. our experience was phenomenal and our only complaint is that they need to get larger, more visible signs on their property (particularly their entrance needs to be more clearly marked). otherwise, we fell in love with our cabin that included a complete kitchen with coffee/tea/microwave popcorn. comfy bed and lots of magazines. the showers were just ok. the breakfast buffet was delicious - the hot food specials included blueberry cobbler (a bit dry) and a green chili and sundried tomato frittata (delish). additionally, they offer a cereal bar with fruits and nuts and raisin toast. read more

We called last minute and Russel was very helpful and ended up meeting us at the main house to drive us to the spring house. We planned one night but after seeing how wonderful everything was we instantly decided a 2nd night would be well worth it. The breakfast is amazing and Jackie was so informative and sharing her background. We couldn't wait until the 2nd days breakfast. This place is perfect for couples and families. I've been waiting to write a review in hopes that I would get back all my stolen goods, but that doesn't appear to be happening. The venue itself is beautiful; however, most of the management staff is AWFUL. Joan our wedding planner was MIA for about 8 months. She was suppose to provide our food. Two months before our wedding I still hadn't heard from her after attempting to contact her as I said for 8 months. I couldn't reach her so I contacted Jill at the Blue Lake Ranch who notified me that Joan is not allowed to do food any more and that we'd have to figure it out. Jill told me I shouldn't have believed the price Joan quoted... Um she's the wedding planner, why wouldn't I trust her. I didn't get a quote for any of the decor from Joan until THE DAY OF THE WEDDING. It was impossible to even try to budget for it because of the complete lack of communication on her part. She kept confusing the weddings she was working on and would change everything constantly. We couldn't have our rehearsal at the venue, Joan didn't make it to our rehearsal we had to have at our aunt's rental house. She called me at MIDNIGHT the night before our wedding to tell me how beautiful my bouquet was and then the next day my bouquet was not ready and I didn't even get to see it until right before I walked down the aisle. She took me away from my wedding dinner at my wedding to ask if she could buy my decorations and ask friends if she could buy their decorations they let me borrow. She was rude to MANY of our guests and wedding party. Her and her "baby daddy" stole our booze at the end of the nigth and tried to blame my pregnant friends. Our bartender gave us an inventory of what was remaining and even tried to help us get it back. He said he's had similar experiences there...I told Jill what happened and I overheard her tell Joan to BRING IT BACK, then Jill told me I was suppose to take all my booze home like it was my fault. However, I left my vehicle at Ridgewood unlocked so it could be put in there and lock and Joan new that. JOAN had my pregnant friends and husbands carry it all to the dressing room where she said it could go. She's the wedding planner...she should know the rules. It was a freaking headache to get ANY of my decor or my bouquet back after the wedding. We had to stay in Durango longer in order to get some of it back as we came from Denver and didn't want to leave it there and have to come back. Our cake toppers and other decor were taken and we still have not received it in the mail like Joan said we would. Our cake toppers were a special, irreplaceable gift from my parents. Her helpers were suppose to be serving our guests dinner at the buffet line and every time guests went to get food they were making out and not paying attention. I had given Joan pearls from my mother laws wedding dress that were to be on my bouquet and it wasn't done. I paid for all the men/boys in the wedding to get boutonnieres and only the groomsmen and groom did...they didn't have any of their flowers for initial pictures. (They were 9 guys who didn't get one). Our mothers were suppose to get corsages, didn't happen. I spent $40 on each bouquet for my bridesmaids and they were very tiny...i spent $150 for floral on the arch which consisted of 1 strand of greenery. They put me and my husband at table 16 when it's suppose to be a sweetheart table. She didn't follow my seating chart. She told me she had a beautiful seating chart for me and that I didn't need to make one...she used pretty much sticky notes people could barely read, on a picture frame. All of our family and friends who stayed at the Blue Lake Ranch went without running water for a majority of the time they were there. We couldn't take a shower the day of the wedding and had to rush to figure that out. Only a few people were offered any sort of discount. Most were offered a half apology. I could honestly on for days with the things that went wrong. Yes, our day was one of the best days of our life and the venue was gorgeous, but we went into it with positive attitudes and told ourselves that none of the above things would matter because at the end of the day, we'd be married. I think Joan has great intentions but she is just very unprofessional and unorganized and her parents who own the venue allow her to get away with it. It's very obvious Jill and her do not get along and we became victims of their feud. I've reached out to other girls who were married or to be married there and they had similar issues. Luckily their suggested vendors turned out to be good or else it really could have been a nightmare. If you want to know more, feel free to contact me. I've waited 7 months to write this in hopes they would return my stuff. Joan has ignored my last two messages in regards to returning our belongings. I've had enough of walking around on eggshells with them. Customer service no longer exists and it's really sad that they can take advantage of people like this. read more

My wife and I attended a wedding here and found out they had a b and b across the road. You can't beat that for convenient. The staff at the wedding was fair - local kids who could use a bit more training in how to properly service an event (like not drinking with the guests) but the event went off well and it was very fun and a beautiful setting albeit rustic. The B and B is very well staffed and nice. Lots of different room choices on a fantastic property with great landscaping. Breakfast was delicious. It's not close to Durango, Cortez or Farmington (rather in between all three) but very charming and private. read more

Just returned from our trip to Blue Lake. Seven years later it is still our heaven on earth; so incredibly beautiful and peaceful. Special shout out to Jackie - she asked after me when my husband went to breakfast and I wasn't feeling well. She insisted on sending him back with a beautiful breakfast tray with just what I need to calm an upset tummy - so kind and thoughtful, very much appreciated. Little pricey, but we felt like we got our money worth! Beautiful location, but a little tricky to find at first ( they have a small mailbox sign and that's it). The landscaping was beautiful and the rooms were tastefully done. Breakfast was buffet style, but was delicious. Their tamale casserole was amazing! I was truly lucky to find Blue Lake Ranch on a vacation website! Got an opportunity to stay in the Cedar Casita and without hesitation can say this is the nicest place I've stayed. Me and my boyfriend were on our way up there this weekend for a tiny get away. We were worried when we saw the winter warnings and possible blizzard but we were bent on going. Michael reached out to us to check on our arrival time and to touch base about the weather and road conditions, oh and to upgrade us to a larger casita due to the amount of snow they already have gotten. I thought wow, how amazing that he is thinking about our hassle of walking through the snow to our place so they upgrade :) he called us back shortly to touch base again because he was concerned about the weather and us making it, not only safely but in a timely manner. He had looked up different weather reports and road conditions, I was so Impressed with his help and his concern for not only our safety but for our wallets and fun. They were going to freshly plow just before we got there and shuttle us up to the ranch, and stay late just to make sure we got there ok, but we were still worried about making it. We decided it was safest and smartest not to continue driving toward Durango. Michael not only was kind enough to transfer our deposit to the following weekend but he also comped an extra day for us because of the weather and now we can experience everything. Wow. On top of all of that, he then went searching online for fun things to do on our way back into Denver like hot springs so " we don't have a bad weekend, and everything isn't a loss" just amazing customer service, above and beyond and we haven't even gone yet! An absolute gem! Blue Lake Ranch is wonderful! The suites are gorgeous, spotlessly clean, and have amazing mountain views. The staff is welcoming and personable; and they really make you feel like you're at home. Breakfast is delicious with so many options to choose from, you really feel pampered. The property is gorgeous beyond words and completely private even though it's only minutes from downtown Durango. We definitely recommend a stay at Blue Lake Ranch! read more
